Transcript
00:01it's the kang show 100 with merely doug and scott we're just a supporting cast we we are we are
00:09proud to be part of the program kang what do you want to do today what's the what's the call
00:13where are we going uh i'll text you guys i'll text you guys i don't want to ruin it you
00:18know
00:18there's people i don't like to tip picks except for when we have to do the prediction show
00:24no i mean i got lucky again man i don't know so i i got suspicious no i got suspicious
00:31that you
00:32were on to something when those pictures emerged of you on a rooftop in sedona arizona holding hands
00:37with brad holmes that's when i started to wonder yeah i mean this man knows something this isn't
00:42just a beautiful landscape there's something else going on here and i know you say you were there
00:46it was just a guy's trip but yeah we're seeing you have to really fall on the sword on that
00:52one
00:52for me the can the the kang is now officially known as the holmes whisperer as he did it again
01:01did it again and your social media feed last night was hysterical i think my favorite one
01:05was somebody just tweeted you and said okay this is starting to get weird yeah that was my favorite
01:10one too it was phil in dallas phil he said yeah this is getting weird now i mean if i
01:16somehow and i will have a pick later on for people that are wondering right doug at uh
01:20day two because because let's be clear last year when you entirely Williams in the first round we
01:25were all a little surprised we weren't shocked but when you threw the name isaac tesla one year ago
01:31today not to the date but on day two of the draft you said isaac tesla we were like all
01:37right
01:38this guy's throwing up shots like dude you're an idiot like
01:43on the second i forget if we had said that was gonna be the second day or that was they
01:46were
01:46going to draft him either way it's a hell of a call and i mean look there was some connecting
01:52of
01:52some dots with with discussions that were the we knew that they had talked or whatever but that's
01:57i don't care that's a ridiculous call so that's amazing and you know the thing with i think even
02:03kang will concede this though we with the with the blake miller call it's that one i'm giving them
02:11all credit don't think i'm taking it i'm not taking any credit away from it you know but if you
02:15were to
02:15ask me who would the lions take that would make more sense than us saying freely i wanted freely
02:22right that's who i wanted but who the lions would take it makes all the sense of the world because
02:26of
02:27everything and kang bladed out yesterday here's why like we should have listened closer like if anybody
02:31wants to know why they were going to do it of course they were going to do it because he's
02:36got
02:36all this experience he's got the high ras score he's a guy who loves football he is a dan campbell
02:43player through and through he is everything they need and it lays it up perfectly i'm wildly impressed
02:51with what our man has done last year's call tylich williams was off the charts yeah because nobody was
02:57talking about tylich williams to the lions and nobody was really talking about and no
03:01one brought up the name isaac tesla and we're going to do it again today in 105 he's on the
03:07heater 105 but yeah yesterday who we asked ken because he did it last year who he thinks the
03:12lions would take we told you who we thought we i thought that they would take freeling i wanted
03:17mesador but there was a bucket of players there when we talked about blake miller and we did talk
03:22about him it was this is fine this is you can see why they want to do this and you
03:27can see what
03:28makes sense about it the one player that i desperately did not want was caden proctor
03:32as we talked about all the reasons why yesterday he went early uh but and and thankfully they did
03:38where king was wrong uh but it was a little bit an edgier part was when he thought that they
03:47would
03:47trade up to get him brad holmes was asked about that yesterday he said yeah we considered it we were
03:51we were thinking about it and it was the rams pick at 13 when the rams took ty simpson that
03:56changed
03:56everything that's when holmes knew okay he's probably going to get to us unless somebody
04:01leapfrogs us yeah because you know the team in front of your needs you have to be able you have
04:05to know your own board and you have to kind of know everybody else's needs and what they might be
04:09thinking because that here's the other thing that's a little bit um that i was a little surprised by
04:16this but the best player available route more teams go best player available than go need
04:24and uh matt miller does a um from espn does top three needs for every team and i just i
04:34just put
04:34this data together i'm gonna have to count it out but they have need one need two need three so
04:38for
04:38the lions for instance need one edge rusher need need two defensive tackle need three offensive tackle
04:44you can debate whether or not you know you agree or disagree with what matt miller lists as each
04:51team's need it's one person's opinion but i'm going to count how many teams here took somebody that
04:57wasn't in their top three needs and it's one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve
05:04thirteen thirteen teams took a player that wasn't considered to be in their top three needs according
05:10to matt miller now that you know that that that the teams might disagree with him and he's not the
05:17be all end all but it's just kind of interesting the best player available approach is very very
05:22popular and um and it's something that brad holmes has talked about has done his entire time here in
05:30detroit he was as position needy yesterday as he has ever been they took a they took the player that
05:38i
05:38think most fans would say is the number one position of need and he's the exact opposite
05:46of brad holmes is in love with injured players right there was two narratives out there that i
05:53hesitate a little bit because each draft is different and i think you have to you have to
05:58be pliable as a gm you have to be able to adjust draft to draft and year to year so
06:04hard and fast rules
06:05i think are dumb he's not in love with injured players this is the most uninjured player you could
06:10possibly take he showed up on the injury report for a practice he missed all practice as a four-year
06:17starter at clemson and it was the biggest position in need in my opinion i would agree with you i
06:24think
06:24was the biggest position of need and things just lined up i mean they had their choice of
06:30three at least three outstanding offensive tackles in that spot whether it was monroe freeling
06:35uh blake miller or uh x uh hannature um all three of those guys were were outstanding offensive
06:44linemen and the hannature is the guy who really blew up at the uh at the senior bowl workouts
06:49um and then carried on you know later on to it combines and then worked in workout days and stuff
06:54like that but but miller was the guy who was a complete constant i mean 54 starts in four years
07:02is crazy started as a true freshman you know earned a spot as a true freshman says a lot at
07:09at a program like clemson now clemson that hasn't been the same the last few years as they were when
07:14they were you know constantly competing in the uh for national championships but still you know you go
07:20back to four years ago it's like the embryonic stages of portal and all that um to earn the starting
07:27job at a school and program like that right away says something says something pretty good i'm excited
07:33about it because i think this is a guy that what's most exciting is that is that he's a right
07:38tackle
07:39by trade you don't have to mix and match you don't have to throw him over to left side and
07:43say okay well
07:43you know we got no sewell is a natural left tackle who's been playing right tackle in the nfl and
07:47been
07:47doing it at a at an all pro level he's going to be an all pro left tackle i love
07:52that blake miller
07:53gets to go to the right side where he's played for four years and just get it going and he'll
07:58step
07:58into competition i if he will win the job is my guess over larry boreham and be a starter from
08:04day
08:04one one of the big questions of course is why blake miller and not monroe freeling we will get to
08:10that
08:11coming up today at 10 18 because freeling as you mentioned was there and on the board and a very
08:15popular selection of the people uh we have approval ratings we haven't done one of these in a while
08:20the pick at 17 blake miller tackle clemson do you approve feel free to comment uh this is on twitter
08:26at dugging gator 971 if you haven't followed us uh go ahead and follow you can often get a jump
08:32on
08:32what we're going to be talking about each and every day and it's a great way to get your thoughts
08:36read
08:36on the air so we like to read comments from twitter on the air do you approve of the pick
08:42yes or no it's
08:42very simple and uh the voting is coming in and there are comments and we want to know what you
08:47think so
08:48there's there's a couple of big topics today uh one is just asking people straight up do you approve
08:53obviously has set out in the uh twitter question we're asking and then a little bit later on we'll
08:59get into who do you want today and if you want to if you want to start with that as
09:02well don't mind it
09:03at all because the draft being a three-day event and tonight being rounds two and three the lions have
09:09the 18th pick of the second round 50 overall and uh still some very intriguing players out there
09:17aren't there i mean there there's a lot of ways they can help themselves get better tonight and
09:22i've kind of zeroed in on three guys that i i think fit what the lions look for and who
09:29i think
09:30they would covet and love to have on the board at 18 but who gives an f what i have
09:34to say kang's
09:35pick today at 105 here on carson anderson 248-539-9797 we will get to your phone calls and feedback
09:42coming up here on 97.1
