00:00Bekas Perdana Menteri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad berkata UMNO berpecah belas lepas beliau bersara pada 2003

00:06menyebabkan sokongan politik orang Melayu berpecah kepada pelbagai parti.

00:12Dalam satu termobual eksklusif bersama FMT, Mahathir berkata bahawa ketika beliau memegang jawatan Perdana Menteri,

00:19UMNO mendapat sokongan semua orang Melayu, berbeza dengan keadaan kini di mana sokongan terhadap parti itu semakin terpecah.

00:27In other words, there was already Malay unity. So the Malay unity gave them strength and they won the election, they won the election.

00:38And there is no dispute as to who is going to lead the party, who will succeed the leader if he steps her.

00:48Namun Mahathir berkata selepas beliau berundur, perpecahan dalam UMNO menyukarkan usaha

00:54untuk mengenalpasti seorang pemimpin yang mendapat sokongan penuh, sehingga menyebabkan perubutan berterusan untuk jawatan Perdana Menteri.

01:02But when I stepped down, the UMNO members did not join one party, they joined many parties.

01:11So they broke themselves up into four or five parties.

01:16After I stepped down, there is always this struggle to become Prime Minister.

01:23It should be, if we follow the tradition, the Deputy Prime Minister will become the Prime Minister.

01:29But after I stepped down, everybody thinks that they can become Prime Minister.

01:37Beliau menambah perubahan ini memaksa pemimpin bekerjasama dengan pelbagai parti Melayu

01:42bagi mengekalkan sokongan.

01:44Kenyataan Mahathir dibuat di tengah-tengah perdebatan berterusan mengenai keadaan perpaduan politik Melayu

01:51dengan beberapa parti serpihan kini bersaing untuk mendapatkan pengaruh dalam landscape politik yang dahulunya dikuasai oleh UMNO.

02:08baru-baru ini menubuhkan sebuah jawatan kuasa Sekretariat Melayu
