Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey calls the government's new deal to curb migrant crossings across the Channel from France a "welcome move", but adds "it doesn't go far enough", calling for deals with more European countries. "Unless we can find the way to get the returns agreement, which we used to have when we were in the European Union, we won't deter people from trying to make these crossings." Report by Keechl. 00:00Yeah, I think it's a welcome move. I actually don't think it goes far enough, actually.
00:04It's good that we've got to deal with France, but we need to deal with every European country.
00:10The truth is, when people rock up in France, they're coming through Germany or Italy or Spain or other European
00:17countries.
00:18Unless we can find the way to get the returns agreement, which we used to have when we were in
00:23the European Union,
00:24we won't deter people from trying to make these crossings.
00:28And what's so ironic about this debate, when the Conservatives and Nigel Farge and Reform complain about small boats crossings,
00:34is they're the ones to blame.
00:36Because before we left the European Union, we had those return agreements.
00:41That deterrent was in place, and they got rid of it. They should apologise.
