00:00There is one major dysfunction during pregnancy that is common, it is normal, but it definitely
00:05needs to be managed. Hi, I'm Christina. I'm a physical therapist here at Sarton Physical
00:08Therapy and I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant. You ever notice any coning when you get out of your
00:13chair and it just looks like this dome, so when you get out of your chair or when you're getting
00:17out of bed? It's probably because you have a little bit of diastasis recti. Diastasis recti
00:22is this separation of the linea alba, that white line that's of your six-pack muscles, and by about
00:2835 weeks, almost the majority of women have it, almost 100%. When the baby comes out, normally
00:33comes down to about 36 by 6 months postpartum, and it gradually reduces. Diastasis recti is
00:39usually related to things like low back pain, pubic symphysis dysfunction, incontinence, SI
00:45joint pain, general pelvic floor dysfunction, and of course the coning. There are some simple
00:50ways that you can help to control this coning, or the diastasis. First thing is going to be
00:55turning on transverse abdominus, where you are thinking of pulling the two sides together.
01:01So in this position, I'm going to inhale, and on the exhale, pulling that line together.
01:10That's going to be the front view. And then from the side, we highly recommend utilizing this
01:20maneuver when you are preparing to get yourself out of a chair, out of bed, out of a car, and
01:25when lifting. If you like this video, like, subscribe, and if you're not really sure if
01:30you have coning, or if you're not sure if you're managing your cone correctly, or your
01:34DRA correctly, come and visit us.
