00:01:06It is go with a good start made by Hill as you would anticipate in the BMW.

00:01:12He's made an absolute rocket ship start.

00:01:14Look, it is going to be win number six of the season for Tom Ingram who dominates race two at

00:01:18Silverstone.

00:01:19Good getaway from the BMW of Aiden Moffat.

00:01:22As Sam Osborne leads by about three lengths into cops, Sam Osborne makes history.

00:01:27A first ever win in the championship for him.

00:01:29Sam Osborne wins race three at Silverstone.

00:01:35A fourth night ago, it saw Dan Lloyd and Sam Osborne become the 11th and 12th different winner of the

00:01:41season.

00:01:42But more importantly, we now know that today the title will be won by one of two drivers.

00:01:49Either the flawless Tom Ingram who already has one hand on the trophy or the outstanding four-time British touring

00:01:56car champion Ash Sutton who could defy the odds today.

00:02:08What does it mean to be champion?

00:02:10It means everything.

00:02:11Everything.

00:02:11I want to make history.

00:02:13I want to be champion.

00:02:14It all comes down to this.

00:02:17Lights on the Donington gantry will glow red.

00:02:20Sutton at the inside of Kamish and he takes the lead.

00:02:22Won by Ash Sutton at Donington.

00:02:27And he's already gaffed Kamish.

00:02:44This is round 26 and it is go.

00:02:46And Ingram's already up into fourth.

00:02:48It is going to be win number six of the season for Tom Ingram who dominates race two at Silverstone.

00:02:53The game is still on when we go to Brands.

00:02:55Last man standing.

00:02:56It all comes down to this.

00:02:59The straight fight between two greats of the modern British touring car era.

00:03:04Tom Ingram sits top of the Sannings with 419 points.

00:03:0833 points clear of the only title rival, Ash Sutton.

00:03:12But so much is on the line, as is the case for a coveted third place finish.

00:03:16Dan Kamish currently sits in that bronze position.

00:03:19Just three points behind though and breathing down his neck is the outgoing champion, Jake Hill.

00:03:24Also in contention is Kamish's teammate, Dan Rowbottom, who's on a course for a season best finish.

00:03:30Either Sutton's Napa Racing UK or Ingram's Team Virtue will clinch the team's title today.

00:03:36And it's going right down to the wire in the manufacturers with only a single point separating Alliance Racing Ford

00:03:43and Accelerate Motorsport Hyundai.

00:03:45Among the independents drivers, it's a three-way scrap between Dan Lloyd, Mikey Doble and Chris Smiley.

00:03:51Restart Racing have all but claimed the team honours following their dominant season.

00:03:55And in the Jack Sears Trophy for drivers who started the season without a podium finish,

00:04:00either Dowell de Leon or Charles Rainford will be the victor.

00:04:03So a fantastic 10-weekend season nears the finish line here at Brands Hatch.

00:04:09This unique Grand Prix circuit is a natural amphitheatre offering unrivaled views and vantage points for fans to view what

00:04:16could be a final day of heartbreak and heroics.

00:04:19Round 28, 29 and 30 are coming up with so much still to be decided.

00:04:24Well, what an iconic track to be at the big grand finale here at Brands Hatch, accompanied by the iconic

00:04:31line-up.

00:04:31Only one of which, though, has their name etched on this trophy.

00:04:35Hello, Tim Harvey, Jane Edwards and Paul O'Neill.

00:04:39I believe it was 33 years to the day, Tim.

00:04:41It just feels like yesterday.

00:04:43Does it? Because it wasn't.

00:04:45No, but do you know what?

00:04:47I've always had a special feeling in my heart for finals day because, obviously, I know what it means.

00:04:52And, you know, we always have two or three or more protagonists fighting it out.

00:04:57I know what's going through their head in the week leading up to the final.

00:05:01You know, this is everything.

00:05:02They said it's everything, and it really is.

00:05:04They eat, sleep, breathe this all the time, 24-7.

00:05:08Yeah, the blood, sweat and tears that goes into this.

00:05:11You know, we've had nine rounds so far, and this is obviously the big one, the big grand finale.

00:05:16I mean, Paul, they're just going to have to put everything on the line.

00:05:18So much still to be decided as well.

00:05:20It's not just the drivers.

00:05:21It's teams, manufacturers, Jack Sears, the independents.

00:05:24There's so much riding on it.

00:05:25Yeah, exactly.

00:05:26Like Tim just said, all the drivers, not just the drivers, the teams, they live, they breathe it from day

00:05:31dot of testing until the end of this weekend.

00:05:35It's fantastic.

00:05:36It's been a great year, and there's a lot still to be sorted out.

00:05:39And I can't wait to see what goes on.

00:05:41Yeah, exactly.

00:05:41I mean, two drivers that probably didn't get the best enough night's sleep last night, Jade.

00:05:45Obviously, all eyes at the moment.

00:05:47Tom Ingram, Ash Sutton.

00:05:49But last time out, they were kind of neck and neck, weren't they?

00:05:52I mean, Tom Ingram took the win in race two, but Ash Sutton was right behind him, finishing in P2.

00:05:57Yeah, absolutely.

00:05:58And the thing with Ash is that he is never, ever, ever going to give up.

00:06:02If there is a glimpse that he can still get this trophy, then he's going to do everything he possibly

00:06:05can to do that.

00:06:06And that's what I love about Ash is we're going to see that feisty aspect of him come out today

00:06:10because he's got nothing to lose in that sense.

00:06:12He is second in the championship.

00:06:14The only position he wants to be is first, and he'll do everything he can to possibly get that.

00:06:17So this is why finals day is so exciting because it's, you know, no holds barred.

00:06:23It is proper touring car racing.

00:06:24I mean, Tom Ingram has put 419 points on the board so far.

00:06:29But it's actually, if you look at the head-to-head between the two drivers, it really is neck and

00:06:34neck.

00:06:34I mean, 33 points between them at the moment.

00:06:37But if you look at the number of wins there, the number of podiums from this season, they're pretty evenly

00:06:42matched him.

00:06:43Yeah.

00:06:43And, I mean, really, I hate to say it for everyone else, but they've been the class of the field.

00:06:48They're over 100 points ahead of everybody else.

00:06:51And they've matched each other all the way through.

00:06:54Although, you know, we have had the feeling right from the start of the year that Hyundai is the faster

00:06:59car.

00:06:59And Ash has been using every trick in the book to try and stay with him.

00:07:03Whether he's got the chance to do it now, statistics, unfortunately, not on his side.

00:07:08Since the turn of the century, the championship lead has only been overturned at the last race five times.

00:07:14And the biggest deficit for that was 11 points in 2016.

00:07:18So the statistics aren't on his side.

00:07:20But, well, there we are.

00:07:22But it is possible.

00:07:23But the way it would work is if Ingram has a nightmare in race one and Ash Sutton were to

00:07:29win it, then the game is really on.

00:07:31Yeah.

00:07:31I mean, Ash at the moment is just going to hope that a little bit of bad luck, well, maybe

00:07:34a lot of bad luck, if you can wish for that, goes in the favor of Tom Ingram.

00:07:39But, yeah, it's interesting to see that, you know, it can be overcome.

00:07:42I mean, it's how Tom Ingram actually to won his 2022 debut title.

00:07:47He overcame Ash Sutton by seven points.

00:07:49But seven points is very different to 33, Jade.

00:07:52Yeah, absolutely.

00:07:52The four names there that overcame championships, two of them, one was Tom, one was Ash.

00:07:57So they've both done it previously before.

00:08:01Yeah, it's not in Ash's favor today, but we know he's going to go out fighting.

00:08:06But it's all dependent on, you know, race one results.

00:08:08What happens to Tom?

00:08:09They're sort of middle of the pack at the moment.

00:08:12It will be dependent on how this sort of race one plays out.

00:08:14Yeah, indeed.

00:08:15Well, another title was on the line yesterday for Tom Ingram.

00:08:19The Goodyear Wingfoot Award handed to the best in qualifying.

00:08:23I mean, he has been outstanding all year, claiming five front row spots across nine weekends.

00:08:28But could he replicate that form in yesterday's session and get the early advantage over Sutton on the opening grid?

00:08:33Well, let's find out how they'll start for race one.

00:08:35David Addison has all the details of yesterday's qualifying.

00:08:40The final qualifying session of the season was always going to be dramatic, with almost everyone with something to fight

00:08:46for.

00:08:46And so it proved, with even a few spots of rain to add to the drama.

00:08:51It was all eyes on Tom Ingram's Team Virtue Hyundai and Ash Saturn's Napa Racing Ford.

00:08:56And both progressed to Q2, while Josh Cook was the first big name to drop out, when his Toyota Kazoo

00:09:01Racing UK Corolla lost oil pressure.

00:09:04Mikey Doble was out as well after a big moment exiting Clark Curve.

00:09:07And so were independent title rivals Chris Smiley and Dan Lloyd.

00:09:12It was Charles Rainford who topped Group 1 and Jake Hill Group 2, before Daryl De Leon's BMW went fastest

00:09:18in Q2.

00:09:19This was where Ingram and Sutton came unstuck.

00:09:23Ingram's one second of boost per lap counting against him, while Sutton complained of a different balance on his second

00:09:28set of tyres.

00:09:29Both fell out, and Ingram will start seventh and Sutton 11th, just improving on his last lap.

00:09:36So, into Q3 went De Leon and Jake Hill for WSR in their BMWs, Adam Morgan and Tom Chilton for

00:09:42Team Virtue, and Dan's Rowbottom and Camish for Napa Racing.

00:09:45It was outgoing champion Hill, who would be sixth at the chequered flag.

00:09:50Fifth was Adam Morgan, who had looked racy all session, while fourth was Tom Chilton's Hyundai.

00:09:56Third went to Dan Rowbottom's Ford Focus, while Dan Camish looked set to be fastest.

00:10:01Until, in the final moments, Daryl De Leon put his BMW on pole for the second event in succession, having

00:10:07also been the time topper at Silverstone.

00:10:09The margin was just 23 thousandths of a second.

00:10:14Wow, I couldn't believe it again. To have my maiden pole at Silverstone, and then to come to the next

00:10:20round and do it again, I just got to say a massive thank you to my engineer, Jenna Collins, and

00:10:25all of WSR.

00:10:26So, it's De Leon and Camish at the front, from Rowbottom and Chilton on row two, and Morgan and Hill

00:10:31fifth and sixth.

00:10:32Ingram, importantly, out-qualified title rival Sutton, and Chris Smiley is the best of the independents in 14th.

00:10:40Time to get our last race day of the season underway. Can De Leon convert pole into a win this

00:10:45time? Don't bet against it.

00:10:49Well, congratulations to Daryl De Leon on back-to-back poles. What a moment for him.

00:10:54But Ash Sutton there, struggles. You know, he jumped out of the car and said the balance of the car,

00:11:00it wasn't feeling right.

00:11:01How was he going to have to turn that around, starting from P11?

00:11:04Well, I mean, the problem was actually incorrect tyre pressures.

00:11:08They'd got rear tyre pressures on the front, just a mix-up within the team.

00:11:13In a way, that's good to know. And what he does know is that the car's fast, because his two

00:11:17teammates are second and third on the grid.

00:11:19So, he knows he's got a fast car underneath him. He's got his rival just in front of him.

00:11:26So, it could have been worse. But if he's not with Tom Ingram by halfway around the first lap, I'll

00:11:31be amazed.

00:11:34Yeah, I mean, Tom Ingram's only two rows ahead. So, it's not like he did an outstanding qualifying.

00:11:38It was tough for them, because with very little boost, and around here, it was making a big difference.

00:11:44But who did have an outstanding qualifying was, of course, Daryl Deleon.

00:11:47Another pole position for him, which is so critical for him, Jane, in the Jack Sears Trophy,

00:11:52because it's just eight points between him and Charles Rainford at the moment.

00:11:55Yeah, for sure. I mean, his mindset will obviously be looking at Jack Sears.

00:11:59But when a driver's on pole position overall, he's just going to be going for these wins.

00:12:02We saw him get pole at Silverstone, and then he just had a bit of an unlucky day.

00:12:06Some gremlins crept in, and he never really got to show what he could do.

00:12:09So, hopefully now, today, he can get his head down.

00:12:12The BMWs will look fast, get his head down, and work towards that win.

00:12:16And then a great qualifying result for the Dans.

00:12:19Dan Camish and Dan Rowbottom starting P2 and P3.

00:12:23Now, they're in the battle for third in the championship.

00:12:25So, it's going to be really interesting to watch those teammates come together.

00:12:28Yeah, definitely. You know, they're going to be going at it hammer and tongs.

00:12:32Great laps from them, shows that the car's fast.

00:12:34The one thing I'm quite interested in is to see how they both drive if they have to help Ash

00:12:39out.

00:12:40Are they going to back the field up?

00:12:41I just think that might be a bit out of the question, to be honest.

00:12:43It will be interesting to see if they can help Ash out at all.

00:12:46Yeah, yeah, that's a good point.

00:12:47Well, keep your eyes on that one.

00:12:49Now, 12 months ago here at Brands Hatch,

00:12:52it was Jake Hill who realised a lifelong dream,

00:12:54becoming the BTCC champion at his local track.

00:12:58However, he announced that this is going to be his final day as a touring car driver

00:13:02as he plans to depart the championship

00:13:04and pursue new challenges in international sports car racing.

00:13:09Lugerman is catching up with him on what is sure to be an emotional day.

00:13:12So, Jake, this is it.

00:13:15Not just your last day as the BTCC champion,

00:13:17but your last day as a BTCC driver.

00:13:19How are you feeling about it all now it's here?

00:13:21Yeah, it's definitely getting the feels a little bit this morning, you know.

00:13:25I mean, it was fantastic to see so much support

00:13:26in the driver's signing there that we had this morning.

00:13:29So, yeah, lots of love, lots of support shown

00:13:32and, yeah, I'm going to miss it, that's for sure.

00:13:34Well, I'm not surprised.

00:13:35You've been in BTCC for nine on 10 years,

00:13:37in this paddock for kind of 15, 16 years.

00:13:40So, it must have been a really difficult decision to make.

00:13:44It was, you know.

00:13:45I mean, it's something I've been thinking about for a little while

00:13:48and, you know what, the time's just right, you know.

00:13:51I mean, I'm coming off still a fantastic year last year

00:13:54and, you know, it's still been a pretty successful year this year

00:13:56and we've still got something to fight for.

00:13:57We're trying to get third today in the championship,

00:13:59but ultimately I've got a fantastic opportunity to go and race abroad

00:14:03and, you know, it's time to go and show the world

00:14:05why touring car drivers are so good.

00:14:07What's the appeal of that?

00:14:08I think for me, you know, I've just always had that itch

00:14:11to do the big races, you know,

00:14:13the likes of Le Mans and Nürburgring 24, Spa 24 and Daytona,

00:14:18stuff like that and, you know,

00:14:20I don't think that itch will ever go

00:14:21and when you've got the chance to scratch it, you know,

00:14:24I think you've got to try and take it with both hands.

00:14:26I mean, this championship is fantastic

00:14:28and I've loved it so much,

00:14:29but ultimately I've conquered what I always wanted to achieve,

00:14:32which was to become British champion

00:14:33and, you know, I just want to take this other chance

00:14:37to try and do some other stuff whilst I can.

00:14:38Well, as you say, you've achieved so much,

00:14:4062 podiums in the British Touring Car Championship,

00:14:4322 wins and, of course, that unforgettable victory here last year.

00:14:47It's been quite some ride, hasn't it?

00:14:49It's been an amazing ride, Lou, you know.

00:14:51I mean, everyone in the paddock has had some way of being a part of it,

00:14:55you know, whether you've been a rival, a partner, a sponsor,

00:14:58I've driven for you or something like that, you know,

00:15:01it's been a whirlwind and I'm going to miss it greatly,

00:15:03but I'm still going to try and be around, you know,

00:15:05and we're still going to try and come to the odd round if I can

00:15:07and, you know, show my face.

00:15:09So, but I just, yeah, I'm going to miss it a lot

00:15:11and I think today is going to hit me pretty hard at the end.

00:15:13What do you think you're going to miss most?

00:15:15I think the racing, you know.

00:15:16I think that's ultimately why we do it, right?

00:15:19And I don't think there is a closer, better race series in the world

00:15:23that can compare to British touring cars.

00:15:25So I think it's going to be the racing and the harsh rivalry

00:15:28that especially I've had with Tom and Ash over the last few years.

00:15:31I'm going to miss that the most,

00:15:32as much as I hate it at the time, you know,

00:15:34because you're like, just go away.

00:15:35I want to try and get past you, you know,

00:15:37but ultimately it's that that drives you forward to be better.

00:15:40So I'm going to miss that a lot.

00:15:42The fans as well.

00:15:43I mean, you know, in the sports cars and GT world,

00:15:45the fans are nowhere near as good as they are here in British touring cars.

00:15:49So, yeah, the whole thing, I'm going to miss it all,

00:15:51but ultimately it's the racing.

00:15:52Listen, we look forward to seeing how you get on spreading the word out there

00:15:55and don't be a stranger, make sure you come back.

00:15:57Absolutely. Thank you so much, Lou.

00:16:02I mean, Jade, you know, Jake, better than anyone.

00:16:05You've kind of grown up through the ranks together.

00:16:08It's the end of such a big journey, you know,

00:16:1010 full seasons in the sport.

00:16:12It's a big one.

00:16:13Yeah. I mean, they mentioned there,

00:16:15he's been in the paddock a lot longer than he's just racing touring cars.

00:16:18And Jake and I have grown up in terms of when we were younger,

00:16:21we started our coaching careers together.

00:16:23And, you know, when you're stood in the freezing cold,

00:16:25coaching someone in a Ferrari for three laps on an experience,

00:16:28all we did at lunchtime was talk about how we'd love to get to the British Touring Card Championship.

00:16:32And we both come from no money.

00:16:34We both had financial struggles, but we both made it in some discrepancy.

00:16:38And he made it as a champion as well.

00:16:40So for me, it's going to be a sad day that he won't be on the grid next year.

00:16:44But for him, you know, his future looks bright.

00:16:47And I think no matter what he does, he's going to be competitive in it.

00:16:50Yeah. I mean, Paul, obviously it's always sad when you lose a big name from the championship.

00:16:54But, you know, as Jay says, he's kind of achieved what he wanted to achieve here.

00:16:58Now it's time to go and scratch that itch, as he said.

00:17:01Yeah, exactly. I think it's great that he's executing what he can do.

00:17:05He's been given that chance.

00:17:06He's taken up the offer.

00:17:07I think it's great.

00:17:08He'll be a fantastic advert for British Touring Cars.

00:17:11And to back up what Jay said, I've worked with Jake quite a lot.

00:17:14But, you know, like a lot of the drivers, it's been a struggle to get where he's got.

00:17:18And a lot of us here, sat here, have helped him out along the way.

00:17:22Great people, great family, a fantastic talent.

00:17:25And Mark Blundell has been fantastic in giving him that, you know,

00:17:29that journey to get through to British Touring Cars.

00:17:32I think it's been brilliant.

00:17:33And I'll be gutted to miss him.

00:17:35Yeah, it really will be sad.

00:17:36And it's going to be such an emotional day for him, isn't it?

00:17:39I mean, can you imagine knowing that going into this is your final race weekend

00:17:42and something that you've just done for so many years?

00:17:45Yeah, and he's a Kentish boy.

00:17:47You know, this is his home circuit.

00:17:48It means more to him here than anywhere else.

00:17:51You know, I remember Jake when he was a kid

00:17:53and he was washing the wheels for my Porsche when I was racing at Redline.

00:17:56So I've seen his journey all the way through.

00:17:58But you know what?

00:17:59I really admire him for taking this step internationally

00:18:02because racing in the Touring Car Championships is now almost his safe zone.

00:18:06He could stay here, race 10 weekends in the UK, not travel too much.

00:18:10He's got a young family.

00:18:12That would be the easy option.

00:18:14Actually going and putting yourself out there internationally,

00:18:16it's a big thing to do.

00:18:18And I really respect him for taking the opportunity.

00:18:21He can always come back to Touring Cars in the future.

00:18:23Yeah, of course.

00:18:24Arms wide open.

00:18:25Hungry for some more success around the world.

00:18:28We do wish Jake well.

00:18:30Let's take a look at what is coming up throughout today.

00:18:32So we've got the three key Touring Car races at 11.25,

00:18:36five minutes past two.

00:18:38And we've got that reverse grid race, the Big Fanai, at 5.30.

00:18:42It's also the final weekend of the Support Championship.

00:18:45So we've got some fantastic battles taking place there too.

00:18:48And we conclude the final rounds of the Virtue Mini Challenge,

00:18:52the Porsche Carrera Cup, the British Air Force,

00:18:54and the Porsche Sprint Challenge.

00:18:56And you will get to see it right through to the fireworks

00:18:59and the celebrations at 6.30 tonight.

00:19:17So all season, the battle for dominance

00:19:19has been centred on long-term rivals Tom Ingram and Ash Sutton,

00:19:23both ambitious for titles and to carve themselves out

00:19:26as the top driver of their generation.

00:19:28They sat down face-to-face to ask each other

00:19:31some open and quite honest questions.

00:19:43First one for you, Tom.

00:19:44Yep.

00:19:44It's a BTCC final at Brands.

00:19:47Yep.

00:19:47Free race to the day.

00:19:48How are you feeling?

00:19:50I feel relaxed, if I'm honest.

00:19:52I feel quite chilled.

00:19:55The nice place to be, as you're fully aware,

00:20:00with a bit of a points buffer, which is a nice place to be.

00:20:02It's not something that I've had before.

00:20:04By the way, I hate that.

00:20:05Yeah.

00:20:05Just putting it out there.

00:20:06Yeah, no, that's fine.

00:20:07I love it.

00:20:08And it's a first for me.

00:20:09I've never actually come into the final weekend leading.

00:20:11Good.

00:20:12Not so good for my side, but fair play.

00:20:16I'm likely in a Hunter, but like you said,

00:20:19it is a big points gap, quite a lot to pull back.

00:20:21We need a bit of lady luck, I think,

00:20:23if I'm being brutally honest.

00:20:28Ingram just put me in the pit wall.

00:20:30How would you describe your relationship with me?

00:20:32We've certainly fell out quite a few times over the years.

00:20:35And I think we've disagreed upon quite a few things over the years.

00:20:38But I think we've both matured quite a lot in the last,

00:20:41certainly two or three years,

00:20:42that actually we probably both respect each other

00:20:44a lot more than we probably did a few years ago.

00:20:48Don't get me wrong,

00:20:49I wouldn't think twice about slingering up your inside.

00:20:51Likewise, you wouldn't think that as well.

00:20:54Do you still have the same hunger?

00:20:58Yeah, the hunger's still there, that's not going away.

00:21:00I mean, for me, to get in that fifth title,

00:21:03the record-breaking one that no one's kind of achieved

00:21:05would be phenomenal.

00:21:06That's something that I want.

00:21:09Whether I'll be able to achieve it in my touring car career

00:21:12is another story,

00:21:13but I'm not giving up, that's for sure,

00:21:14and we're not going to give up this weekend.

00:21:18So much pacing at Hyundai.

00:21:19Yep.

00:21:20Tell us about your relationship with Spencer.

00:21:22Spencer's been my engineer

00:21:24since about 2018, 2017.

00:21:27We're really good friends.

00:21:28We can be dead honest with each other.

00:21:30If someone could do better,

00:24:31of where they're both very, very comfortable

00:24:33in their own ability

00:24:35and when Tom says he feels relaxed

00:24:38I totally believe him

00:24:39because he knows what he needs to do.

00:24:42The two drivers are completely

00:24:44different personalities.

00:24:45They do the same lap time

00:24:46but they do it very differently

00:24:47and they all race very differently

00:24:49and what I'm interested to see today

00:24:50is how Tom will manage Ash

00:24:53knowing that he's all guns blazing

00:24:55and if Ash throws a lunge down the inside

00:24:57it's almost up to Tom

00:24:59to decide whether they contact or not

00:25:01because Ash is going to be going

00:25:03for that title no matter what

00:25:04but I just love to see

00:25:06how they both do it

00:25:07in very different ways

00:25:08but both aiming for the end goal.

00:25:11And both crediting their teams there as well

00:25:13and the importance of how well

00:25:16and how hard the engineers

00:25:17are pushing at the moment.

00:25:19I mean, Tom there massively

00:25:20crediting Spencer for everything

00:25:21that's gone into the car

00:25:22over the course of the last few seasons

00:25:24which just shows just how important

00:25:26that role is.

00:25:27It's massive, yeah.

00:25:28I mean, it's like Tim's always said

00:25:30you know, you need a good engineer

00:25:31and that relationship is

00:25:33you know, second to none.

00:25:35It has to be absolutely spot on

00:25:36but they have such a great understanding

00:25:38and there's always a great engineer

00:25:40behind, you know, a fantastic driver

00:25:42and yeah, there's a lot for them to all do.

00:25:45It's not just about the driver today.

00:25:47Exactly.

00:25:47And actually Napa obviously going

00:25:49for the team's championship again.

00:25:50I think if they take this one

00:25:51it would be the fourth one in the row

00:25:53and they've got so many of their drivers

00:25:55in the top five as well.

00:25:56They are looking very strong

00:25:57but there's plenty of challenges as well.

00:26:00Yeah, absolutely.

00:26:00There's a lot of things that can go wrong

00:26:02but the points are so close

00:26:04that it only takes a small upset

00:26:05to change that.

00:26:06But it's something obviously

00:26:07the teams value very, very highly

00:26:09and rightly so

00:26:10because it reflects the work

00:26:11that everyone's put in

00:26:13not just the driver and the engineer

00:26:14but everyone else.

00:26:17our attention is always drawn

00:26:18to the battle for the drivers

00:26:20but our championship this weekend

00:26:23there is plenty of other battles

00:26:25to finish off.

00:26:59It's been a while.

00:27:00The last time I've won a race

00:27:01in touring cars is 2022

00:27:02here at Brands GP

00:27:04with Accelerate.

00:27:05So it's been a long time.

00:27:07Very tough few years

00:27:08and to do it how we did it

00:27:10in race one

00:27:11starting from fourth

00:27:12getting that gap

00:27:13managing the gap

00:27:14just felt very special

00:27:15and the first outright win

00:27:17for the team as well.

00:27:18So it all

00:27:18come together at once

00:27:20and that's the

00:27:21highest or low of motorsport.

00:27:23Smiley's restart racing

00:27:24hold a dominant 98-point lead

00:27:26in the independent teams

00:27:28following a great weekend

00:27:29at Silverstone.

00:27:31Notwithstanding drastic

00:27:31penalty deductions at Brands

00:27:33they will be the victors.

00:27:35You know I've been in this championship

00:27:36for a long time now.

00:27:37On my day I'm at the front

00:27:38and I can do the business.

00:27:40And yeah to give that

00:27:42some credibility

00:27:42I would love to win

00:27:43that part of the championship

00:27:45for my own sake

00:27:46and for everyone

00:27:46that's helped me

00:27:47to get to this point

00:27:48in my career.

00:27:49Elsewhere it's been

00:27:49an outstanding year

00:27:53both clinching

00:27:54their first race wins

00:27:55and both hoping to take

00:28:01I've done a lot of hard work

00:28:02and prep with my engineer

00:28:03and for me

00:28:05I just want to go out there

00:28:06and enjoy it this time.

00:28:07So there's three races

00:28:08we'll go out there

00:28:09and enjoy the races

00:28:10but we'll see where we end up.

00:28:12Yeah it'd be lovely to win it

00:28:13but also you know

00:28:13it'd be the first time

00:28:14that WSR won

00:28:16Jackseers trophy championship

00:28:17so I'd like to bring it home.

00:28:18It's not going to be easy.
