Met Office Wednesday Evening Weather Forecast 22/04/2026
Transcript
00:00Hello again. Plenty of fine weather to come through the next few days, all because of the high pressure which
00:05has been sitting just to the north of us all week, still dominating our weather.
00:10And actually the low pressure system that's been to the west of us and has been bringing some strong blustery
00:15winds, particularly to the southwest through the last couple of days, well that is clearing away.
00:19So those strong gusty winds are going to be easing.
00:23So for many, it's looking largely fine. Do need to bear in mind a bit more cloud to end the
00:28day across parts of the southwest Wales and perhaps Northern Ireland.
00:31And there may be a few spots of rain as well, but most places having a dry picture this evening
00:36and staying dry through the night.
00:38There will be some cloud, some low cloud, initially around eastern parts, and some of this will filter a bit
00:43further westwards, but many areas having clear skies.
00:47And with those clear skies, well, you have a decent chance of spotting the lyrid meteor shower, which is peaking
00:52at the moment.
00:53So do try and check that out.
00:55Those clear skies, though, will also allow temperatures to drop.
00:58It is that time of year where we see big swings in our temperatures from warm days to some chilly
01:04nights.
01:04In fact, across some parts of Scotland, northern England, temperatures could drop a few degrees below freezing.
01:09So a touch of frost first thing on Thursday morning.
01:12So for many of us, yes, a bit of a chilly start on Thursday, but quite a bright one in
01:17many places.
01:17Lots of sunshine around, even where we have some clouds, some murkiness first thing.
01:23That's all going to burn away quite quickly once the sun comes up.
01:26And so as we head towards lunchtime and into the afternoon, there will not be a huge amount of cloud
01:31around.
01:32Lots of blue sky, just a bit of cloud here and there, maybe some nagging low cloud around some North
01:36Sea coastal parts.
01:37But most places just having a lot of sunshine.
01:40And with all that sunshine, day on day heating, the winds lighter than they have been recently.
01:46Well, it's going to feel very warm for many of us.
01:48Temperatures widely in the mid to high teens, if not low 20s.
01:52And even towards those eastern coastal parts where it's felt a bit chilly, quite fresh recently.
01:56It's going to feel a little bit warmer than it has through recent days.
02:00One thing to bear in mind with all that sunshine, UV levels, they are moderate or even high for some
02:05towards the south.
02:07And so whilst a decent amount of sunshine is good for you, do make sure you're safe from the sun
02:12if you're out in it any long periods of time.
02:14Protect your skin, protect your eyes as well.
02:16Through the evening on Thursday, it's a, well, it's a fine end to the day for most of us.
02:21But again, we are going to see some low cloud developing initially across some eastern parts.
02:25But again, filtering a bit further westwards, mainly across parts of England, but perhaps far eastern parts of Scotland towards
02:31Aberdeenshire.
02:31We could see a bit of low cloud here. Doesn't look like it'll be as widespread as it is going
02:36to be through this coming night.
02:38But even still, there could be some murkiness, a bit of mist, maybe a bit of fog for first thing
02:42on Friday morning.
02:43And also first thing on Friday morning, it is going to be a bit chilly for some of us, similar
02:47to this coming night with the clearer skies.
02:49Well, in prone spots, it's going to drop close to, if not a little bit below, freezing in some areas.
02:54Many towns and cities holding up above.
02:56But yeah, some prone spots could have a touch of frost first thing on Friday morning again.
03:00And then through Friday, well, it's kind of a rinse and repeat of Thursday, where we see any cloud, any
03:06low cloud around first thing.
03:07That will quickly burn away.
03:09And then we're just looking at a largely sunny picture as we go into the afternoon.
03:13Lots of blue sky.
03:14And again, with that sunshine, temperatures are going to be, well, higher than average and quite widely mid to high
03:21teens, low 20s for many of us.
03:23In fact, quite a jump in temperatures compared to today, at least, across some eastern coastal parts, where the wind
03:30direction is changing a little bit.
03:32And so it's going to feel markedly less fresh, much warmer here than it has been earlier on in the
03:37week.
03:38As we go through then towards the, well, towards the weekend, high pressure is still going to be in control.
03:44But there is a front that's trying to push its way in from the west before it weakens as we
03:48go through Saturday.
03:49But that does bring the potential for a bit more cloud, maybe a few outbreaks of rain towards some western
03:53areas, but it shouldn't be too heavy.
03:55And then the high pressure sticks with us as we go through Sunday.
03:58It's likely to be a bit cloudier, but largely dry, calm.
04:03So pretty good setup for anyone taking part in the London Marathon.
04:07Good luck if you are.
04:08I'll see you again soon.
04:09Bye-bye.
