A freelance preacher has been remanded for five days over an investigation into the misappropriation of about RM12.3mil belonging to a non-governmental organisation (NGO).

The suspect, in his 30s, has been remanded until April 26 following a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) application on Wednesday (April 22).

00:07into the alleged misappropriation of about 12.3 million ringgit belonging to a non-governmental

00:15The suspect has been remanded until April 26 following a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission
00:22application on Wednesday.
00:24He was arrested on Tuesday night when he turned up to give his statement at the Negri
00:29Sembilan MACC office.
00:32Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, who is also the chairman of the NGO, is believed
00:39to have committed the offences between September 2022 and April 2026.
00:46He is suspected of abusing his position and conspiring with two other committee members
00:52to transfer approximately 12.3 million ringgit into his personal bank accounts as well as
00:59into accounts belonging to eight companies linked to him.
01:03The MACC had also frozen 15 bank accounts comprising three personal accounts, three NGO accounts
01:12and nine company accounts totalling 16.5 million ringgit and seized cash, foreign currency and
01:20luxury items including watches, handbags, jewellery and gold pieces worth approximately 74,000 ringgit.
01:29The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
