A US judge strongly rebuked the federal government on Oct 28 by rejecting a request by the Justice Department to temporarily block California from counting mail ballots for the midterm elections from more than 20,000 registered voters the department alleges are likely non-citizens.

The decision marks the latest setback for President Donald Trump's effort to boost the federal government's role in elections ahead of the November 3 midterms, with his Republican Party locked in a tight battle to retain control of both houses of Congress.

00:21So good for you. Thank you. Thank you so much.
00:28That's the voice, the voice. Right, right.
00:38Congratulations. Thank you. When you do.
01:07Good morning. We are very confident that the law and the facts are on our side.
01:13President Trump does not get to rewrite our voting rules and our voting system on a whim.
01:23I know some Californians may be wondering whether everything coming out of Washington has changed how they can vote.
01:31And let me be clear. California's elections are moving forward as usual. It is business as usual.
01:37Your voting rights, your fundamental voting rights remain protected under California law.
01:43And the rules for casting your ballots have not changed.
01:48I will say that that is despite multiple efforts from the Trump administration to change those rights,
01:54to undermine your rights, including undermining your right to vote by mail.
01:58We expect exactly the type of thing that you've that you've just shared that that hypothesis or excuse that scenario
02:05is is very possible.
02:09And so we will go to court where we feel very comfortable.
02:13And we have won over 80 percent of the time in our lawsuits against the Trump administration.
02:17Because the facts and the law, not politics or posturing, not wanting to hold on to power,
02:25but the will of the people is what will win in an elections case in court.
02:28So we're prepared to go to court.
02:30Ok.
02:30Yeah?
02:39I'm sure.
02:41You
