00:01President Trump threatens to level Iran's power grid after U.S. forces stop a blockade run at sea.
00:07Now the ceasefire is hanging by a thread.
00:10Plus, a father kills eight children, seven of his own, in a Shreveport rampage.
00:16This morning he is dead and a community is trying to make sense of it.
00:20And a bar fight turns into gunfire.
00:22Five people shot near the University of Iowa.
00:25This morning police are hunting for who did it.
00:30The stories that matter, clear and credible, from across the country to around the world.
00:36These are your unbiased updates from Straight Arrow News.
00:41Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelle.
00:43We begin this morning with Iran vowing retaliation after a dramatic U.S. naval strike and ship seizure.
00:50And it's now putting fragile talks on the brink.
00:53Video posted online by U.S. Central Command shows a U.S. Navy destroyer opening fire on an Iranian-linked
01:01cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman.
01:03The ship ignored warnings, so the Navy fired into the engine room, disabling it at sea.
01:09U.S. Marines then boarded the vessel and took control.
01:12It's now in American custody.
01:14Iran is calling it an act of piracy and warning a response is coming.
01:19In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said the ship tried to break a U.S. blockade and was
01:26stopped right in its tracks.
01:28All of this now puts planned talks in doubt.
01:31U.S. officials are heading to Pakistan for another round of negotiations.
01:35But Iran says there are no plans to show up.
01:38The ceasefire between the warring countries is set to expire on Wednesday.
01:42And the stakes are global.
01:44The Strait of Hormuz is effectively shut down again.
01:47Oil prices are climbing this morning, with crude jumping sharply as tankers stay out of the waterway.
01:53Here's Energy Secretary Chris Wright on CNN.
01:57It's not safe right now to go through the Strait of Hormuz, correct?
02:00That is correct.
02:01Okay.
02:02The president said, well, let me just follow up on that.
02:05When will it be?
02:07I think after a deal is reached, after a deal is reached, it won't be in the too distant future.
02:11People are ready to go.
02:13Ships are there.
02:13The United States put through two warships through the Straits.
02:17We can open it one way or the other.
02:19But the best way to do it is to have an end to the conflict and a defanged and de
02:25-armed Iran.
02:27Separately, the Israeli military says it is investigating.
02:30After this, an image surfaced of one of its soldiers smashing a statue of Jesus in southern Lebanon.
02:38The IDF calls the act serious and says those involved will face consequences.
02:43We are learning more this morning about one of the deadliest mass shootings in the U.S. in years.
02:50Eight children killed in a domestic rampage in Louisiana over the weekend.
02:55This is what's left in a Shreveport neighborhood after the violence unfolded before sunrise on Sunday.
03:01Police say a 31-year-old father shot his wife at one home, then went to another house and killed
03:06eight children, seven of them his own.
03:09The victims ranged in age from just three to 11.
03:13Investigators say some of the children tried to escape, running out the back door, even climbing onto the roof.
03:19One teenager jumped and survived.
03:22Two women, including the suspect's wife, were also shot and remain in critical condition.
03:27It is very difficult.
03:29This is, you know, a lot of times you have homicides that are people who know each other and they're
03:36fighting with each other.
03:37This is totally an unprovoked circumstance involving eight children.
03:43After the shootings, police say the gunman carjacked a vehicle and led officers on a chase into another parish.
03:49Police shot and killed him.
03:51Authorities say the violence appears to be domestic, but they're still working to understand what triggered it.
03:57Now to another shooting in a different place.
04:00This morning, five people remain hospitalized in Iowa City, one in critical condition after a shooting near the University of
04:08Iowa campus early Sunday.
04:10Police say a large fight broke out at the pedestrian mall just before 2 a.m., a busy bar area
04:16near campus.
04:18Video posted to social media shows a chaotic brawl, people throwing punches, screaming, then gunfire.
04:24Bullets hit five people.
04:26On Sunday, Iowa City Public Safety released images of five persons of interest believed to be connected to the shooting.
04:34They are asking for the public's help in identifying them.
04:37University officials say three of the victims are students.
04:40In a statement, President Barb Wilson called it, quote, a difficult moment for our community, acknowledging many students are shaken
04:47and trying to process what happened.
04:50Down south, one person is dead after a small plane crashed into a neighborhood near Tampa.
04:56Investigators say a twin-engine Cessna went down in a yard in Wesley Chapel Sunday morning.
05:01Look at all the wreckage here.
05:02The crash sparked a fire and damaged at least one home.
05:06Flames were out by mid-morning.
05:08The FAA says the plane took off from Tampa North Arrow Park, which is a public-use airport, and went
05:14down around 8.35 a.m.
05:16The pilot was the only person on board.
05:18Officials have not confirmed whether the person killed was the pilot or somebody on the ground.
05:23The NTSB is now leading the investigation and sending a team to the scene.
05:28I heard metal against metal.
05:31I heard the plane coming in, and then, of course, I heard it crash, and then I saw all of
05:41the flames and everything.
05:43I just said a prayer, but I'm also, you know, worried, is it going to come in here?
05:50I could feel the heat and everything.
05:53Investigators say a preliminary report is expected within 30 days.
05:58British Prime Minister Keir Starmer faces a tense showdown in Parliament today over a growing scandal tied to a failed
06:06diplomatic appointment.
06:07At the center, how Peter Mandelson was tapped to be ambassador to Washington, a role requiring top-secret clearance,
06:14after security officials warned against approving him over ties to Jeffrey Epstein,
06:20and why that warning never reached the Prime Minister.
06:23Starmer now says he was furious to learn about it after the fact,
06:27especially after telling lawmakers proper vetting had been followed.
06:31That I wasn't told that Peter Mandelson had failed security vetting when he's appointed is staggering.
06:39That I wasn't told that he'd failed security vetting when I was telling Parliament that due process had been followed
06:47is unforgivable.
06:49Downing Street says civil servants could have flagged the failed vetting without exposing confidential details.
06:56The fallout is already hitting the top ranks.
06:58A senior foreign official has lost his job and is set to face lawmakers Tuesday to explain what happened.
07:05Starmer's allies call it a breakdown in communication.
07:08His opponents are calling it something else and pushing for him to step down.
07:13Finally this morning, if you're feeling a little slow getting out the door this morning, don't watch this.
07:19In Beijing, a humanoid robot just ran a half marathon and beat the human world record doing it.
07:28The robot, called Lightning, finished the 13-mile race in just over 50 minutes.
07:33That's about six minutes faster than the best human time ever recorded.
07:37Dozens of robots took part, some running on their own, others guided remotely.
07:42It's a big leap from last year when the fastest robot needed more than two and a half hours to
07:47finish.
07:47And yes, not all of them stuck the landing.
07:51One went right down at the start.
07:53Another ran into a barrier.
07:55Still, the winner did not slow down, which, by the way, is interesting timing because the Boston Marathon is today.
08:01We'll see how the humans do.
08:03You know, I watched this video before we came out here and three things stuck with me.
08:07Number one, the robot sprints the entire way.
08:11Number two, it never runs out of breath.
08:14And number three, no possible joint pain to the hips or knees.
08:18We should be so lucky, right?
08:20All right, before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
08:22In Virginia, a state court weighs a Republican challenge to a new congressional map just one day before voters take
08:29up the issue in a statewide referendum.
08:31At the Supreme Court, justices are set to release orders in a slate of pending appeals.
08:36In Boston, more than 30,000 runners hit the course for the 130th Marathon.
08:42The first wave of runners starts at 10 Eastern.
08:44Then this evening in San Francisco, crowds gather at Hippie Hill to celebrate 420.
