00:001,667. That is how many feet
00:05rock climbing legend Alex Honnold climbed to get to the top of the
00:10Taipei 101 skyscraper this weekend. Who knew there were rock climbing legends?
00:15Not me, but let me tell you what this guy did was as impressive as it was.
00:20Terrifying. He did this insane climb with no ropes to keep him secure.
00:25If he fell. Think about how high that is. The 40 year old American needed
00:30just 90 minutes to scale the glass and steel tower, the world's 11th.
00:35tallest building. Fun fact though, it was number one when it was completed back in 2000.
00:402004, but things just got bigger from there. Anyway,
00:42Honnold is no stranger to the daredevil.
00:45Aspects of climbing. The Sacramento native is also known for his ropeless ascent of
00:50El Capitan in Yosemite and being the first to climb a 3,700.
00:55foot sheer cliff in Greenland, which also sounds cold. Honnold was
01:00not the first to scale Taipei 101 though. A French climber scaled that building back on
01:05Christmas in 2004 as a sort of grand opening event.
01:10because, you know, that's what you do. He, however, used ropes because
01:15sanity. Honnold's feet caused a big hoopla because it streamed
01:20live on Netflix over the weekend. Now he declined to tell the New York Times how much he earned for
01:24the stunt.
01:25calling it an embarrassing amount, but embarrassing big or embarrassing.
01:30small. I feel like I would want a big chunk of change to do that without an
01:35net.
