00:00Following four years of full-scale war, which EU countries are hosting the most Ukrainians?
00:10Since the beginning of the war in February 2022, EU countries have provided temporary
00:15protection to almost 7 million people fleeing Ukraine. A total of 4.40 million non-EU citizens
00:23who fled Ukraine had a temporary protection status in the EU in February 2026. This represents
00:29an increase of 0.5% in just one month, according to the latest Eurostat data.
00:36Germany, Poland and Czechia were the EU countries hosting the highest number of Ukrainians under
00:42temporary protection. The number of people under temporary protection increased in 24 countries,
00:48with the three largest absolute increases seen in Germany, Czechia and Spain. By contrast,
00:54the only three EU countries that saw the crisis were Estonia, France and Luxembourg.
00:59Ukrainian citizens represented more than 98.4% of the beneficiaries of temporary protection
01:07in the EU. Among them, adult women made up 43.5%, minors nearly a third, and adult men slightly
01:15more than a quarter. Yet, despite the dangers, more than 1.6 million people have returned to
01:20frontline areas in Ukraine. For many, the financial strain and longing for home
01:25outweighed the risks according to Save the Children.
