00:00Amid Russia's war in Ukraine, how much are weapons companies making?
00:08Revenues from the sale of weapons and military services by the world's biggest arms companies
00:13have reached a record high. They increased by 5.9% to $679 billion in 2024, the highest figure
00:22ever recorded, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.
00:2626 of the top 100 arms makers, which are based in Europe, saw aggregate revenues grow by 13% to $151 billion.
00:36The sharpest percentage increase in weapons revenues of any top 100 company in 2024 was recorded by the Czech company
00:43Czechoslovak Group, which rose by 193% to $3.6 billion.
00:49In 2024, the arms revenues of the four French companies in the top 100 reached $26.1 billion,
00:56an increase of 12% compared with 2023. The increase was partly driven by growing demand
01:02for its AI and quantum-related technologies. The arms revenues of the two Italian companies
01:07in the top 100 saw a rise of 9.1% to $16.8 billion in 2024. Four companies based in Germany were also
01:16in the top 100. Taken together, their arms revenues increased by 36% to $14.9 billion.
01:23This increase in revenue across EU companies was tied to demand from the war in Ukraine
01:28and the perceived threat from Russia.
