00:00Curry with the dribble, runs it right, behind the back to Draymond, back to Steph, dribbles
00:05off a double team, fades and fires, it's good!
00:08A sideline three for Steph Curry!
00:12The crowd roaring, Warriors 120, Clippers 117, timeout L.A.
00:20Shout out Warriors.
00:22Dub Nation, Steph Curry, you're listening to Willard and Dibbs on 95.7 The Game.
00:28Coming to you live from the Laughing Monk Studios.
00:33Stop growing, Chef.
00:35I mean, Shane, keep calling Shane.
00:37Shout out Warriors.
00:39It's a three out, but now I gotta put on sunscreen.
00:43I mean, God.
00:45Hey, can we have a quick silly conversation about that three-pointer?
00:50Grandy was the first one, he sent us the video this morning.
00:54He's like, you guys got it, or was it Lucas?
00:55I don't know.
00:56It was Lucas, and he was obviously watching Pat McAfee as well, because they were talking
01:01about it, and two minutes later, in comes the text from Lucas, I was like, oh, I just
01:05watched that.
01:05Yeah, but, Grandy, you're the one that commented on it, you're like, this is crazy, you gotta
01:09watch this, this angle's crazy, and he's asking the fans, did it go in?
01:15And when I watched it, I go, you know what, I wanted to have this quick conversation with
01:21all the guys.
01:22Do you actually believe he was asking the fan if it went in, or do you believe that that
01:29was the show?
01:31In other words, he's like, did it go in?
01:34Did it go in?
01:35Which is kind of what I thought, because A, first of all, I thought he could see it, but
01:40second of all, the crowd reaction alone, that's part of the show, if he didn't know if it
01:47went in or not, then he needs to have his ears checked, because when you play that, you
01:51hear the, well, as Geese said, he knows it's in when he releases it, right?
01:56He's already thinking about what he's going to do.
01:58By the way, it's also really poor defense if it didn't go in, and you're sitting in
02:03the stands like, did it go in?
02:04All right, get your butt back on defense, Luca.
02:07You know what I mean?
02:08Like, what are we doing over here?
02:09And then did you see his celebration after he got out of the stands?
02:12He did, he screamed and he stomped, and he stomped so hard that he nearly rolled his ankle,
02:18but his ankle brace and the Mamba shoes protected it and got him back upright.
02:22This is the most Warriors 38-year-old thing I've ever heard in my life.
02:26And he's going to have to start worrying about, like, a hip and, like, you know, I don't
02:32know, there aren't a lot of movements I make at 57 that are demonstrative, because, you
02:36know, stuff happens.
02:37I get hurt playing knockout every year.
02:40It's knockout.
02:41We're not moving that fast, and no one's guarding us.
02:45And every year, some muscle starts barking at me right there in the late round.
02:50It happens every time.
02:51Yep, yep.
02:52I'm like, this year, I'm all stretched.
02:54Yeah, it doesn't work.
02:55And it looked like he fist-bumped somebody, I think, after that, but it was almost like
02:59a jab punch.
03:01It was an aggressive fist-bump.
03:03It was first, did it go in, and then he does a little thing, and then he fist-bumps somebody,
03:08and then timeout on the floor so he was able to go out and stomp it out.
03:12What a great night.
03:13And he's just, he's just unlike anything ever.
03:18End of story.
03:20I, I, you know, um, it makes you sound like you're a little kid.
03:26Uh, Nahigian tweeted out last night, look, look, I honestly don't know what I'm gonna do
03:32when this guy retires.
03:33Which is like, uh, are we adults?
03:37But I also get it.
03:39I totally get it.
03:40Like, you know what a problem for the Warriors is now, and this isn't just because of last
03:47night by any stretch.
03:48A problem for the Warriors is going, like the Warriors and Steph, I think, have kind of become
03:53like Tiger Woods and golf, which is, he's going to not be here anymore at some point, and he's
04:00still going to be the biggest name.
04:03It's kind of like how the Giants for the last five years are like, who's the biggest name
04:07on the Giants?
04:07They're broadcasters.
04:09Or they're president of baseball ops.
04:11Totally.
04:12I mean, whoever follows this guy as supposedly the Warriors' best player, good Lord, you're
04:20screwed.
04:23Can I add another tweet that people want to take back?
04:26You guys were doing this earlier.
04:27I'm just reading it right now.
04:28And plus, you also mentioned what the boss tweeted about Steph.
04:33This was earlier in the game.
04:34This is the best one.
04:35Yes, I saw this.
04:36Go ahead, please.
04:37He writes, this was at 926.
04:38This must have been late third, maybe early fourth.
04:43He writes, I've seen enough.
04:45Get Curry out of the game.
04:47I'm dead serious.
04:48This game just doesn't mean enough.
04:50He's extremely ginger right now.
04:52One wrong move, and we're going to have a major issue.
04:55Take a laugh.
04:56Send a tweet.
04:56Yep.
04:58And then minutes later, I take it back.
05:01Yep.
05:02Back, back, back, back, back.
05:03Give him the Bob Fitzgerald.
05:05Just give it to him.
05:06Stay off of Twitter.
05:07Get off of Twitter.
05:09They really should have saved him for October.
05:11I mean.
05:11Or you could even hit him with a, for the love of God.
05:14For the love of God.
05:16Also an underrated Fitz.
05:17Dumb.
05:19Or you could hit him with a, so what?
05:21Oh, man.
05:22So what?
05:23Stop.
05:24A lot of good Fitz in there.
05:26I'm serious.
05:27Get him off the floor.
05:29I've seen enough.
05:30No, you haven't.
05:3216 minutes between the tweet and the take back.
05:34I take it back.
05:35Oh, wait.
05:36How long?
05:36How long, Matt?
05:38How long have you been in the market?
05:40How long have you been the program director at the Warrior Flagship?
05:44Eight years now.
05:45Eight or nine.
05:47How many times does he need to do this before you're like, oh, that might happen?
05:53Like, what do you mean get him off the floor?
05:56I've seen enough.
05:58I'm dead serious.
05:59What are we doing?
06:00All right.
06:01Let's go.
06:01We want to get to these calls.
06:02Let's go.
06:03Let's go.
06:03Let's go.
06:03Let's go.
06:05888-957-9570.
06:07Let's go to Professor E. Handy in Vallejo.
06:12Hey, Professor.
06:15What's up, Willard?
06:17What's up, Dibs?
06:17Yo.
06:20First, let me do this at the entry.
06:23I apologize, Mark.
06:25You was pontificating all week about, just enjoy the show.
06:30Hey, don't you want to see this man play again?
06:33And everybody was like, no.
06:35Get the pick.
06:36Get out of here.
06:38And Mark, you was just like, no, Dibs.
06:40We love to play here.
06:42Dibs is like, cockamamie, right?
06:44And I was just thinking, I agree with Dibs.
06:46Like, Mark is too positive.
06:48And I'm watching the game.
06:50And I'm tweeting live.
06:52Oh, it's over.
06:53Oh, what are we going to do?
06:55And then I said, it's over.
06:57And I had to say, Mark, don't get on there and be positive.
07:01And then Mark hits me.
07:03I didn't hear nothing.
07:03It was crickets, Dibs.
07:05Then all of a sudden, we win.
07:07And Mark hits me with the, what about now?
07:11S-T-F-U.
07:12Yeah, I gave you a hashtag.
07:14So, Professor, that was you.
07:16Can I share?
07:17First of all, I love that you then responded, hey, man, you know, I messed up or whatever it was.
07:24And can I share with you a story about that tweet?
07:28I love that you called today, too, to back it up.
07:31So, the professor hits us at 9-13 with all of that.
07:36Like, here, I'll pull it up again.
07:38But basically, he was like, don't you dare.
07:41Don't you dare be positive about this on the air tomorrow here.
07:46I got it.
07:47All right.
07:47Professor hits me.
07:48I do not want to hear you spin this loss as a positive tomorrow either.
07:53We are trash.
07:54Say it.
07:55Own it.
07:56Time to move on.
07:57All right.
07:58I saw it, Professor, and I waited because, by the way, when I saw it, in that moment, that's the
08:06way it looked like it was going to go.
08:08But when the Warriors, when pods got fouled and there was the goaltend, at that moment, I pulled the phone
08:16out.
08:16I'm sitting next to the lovely Christy.
08:18She does not like it when I start tweeting during games.
08:21She doesn't like it.
08:22She just thinks that's just trouble.
08:24It's just trouble.
08:25But I pulled the phone out, and I'm like, about to get my guy right now.
08:29The professor.
08:30Yep.
08:30I pulled that thing up, and I hit, quote, tweet.
08:34Ooh.
08:34Right?
08:35And I'm going to respond.
08:35And she sees me typing it out, and she goes, stop.
08:39This game's not over yet.
08:41Stop.
08:42And I go, I'm not going to hit send yet.
08:45We're just drafting.
08:46You got it locked and loaded.
08:47Yeah.
08:47Look at you.
08:48We're drafting the response.
08:50You're going to type it out.
08:51But don't worry.
08:52I'm not going to hit send yet.
08:53And then Pods hits the free throw.
08:55They're up six.
08:56Still a two-possession game.
08:58She goes, don't.
08:59Don't.
09:00Hit.
09:00Send.
09:01And then.
09:03Then Draymond pick pocket.
09:07And as soon as that, I think, was it Steph that ended up on the free throw line?
09:10And then he missed the first.
09:13Steph.
09:14And the second one goes, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, and bounce around on
09:17the rim and falls right in.
09:2033 seconds left.
09:21Up seven.
09:22Pow.
09:22Send.
09:23Three possession game.
09:2433 seconds left to go.
09:26I had you.
09:27I had you all queued up for a while there, Professor.
09:32Listen, and when I saw it, Mark, I said, I got to be a man and own it.
09:37I had to respond and say, my bad.
09:41My bad, right?
09:42LOL.
09:42But let me tell you, I think this is a hot take.
09:47We're going to get past Phoenix tomorrow.
09:50And I think we're dialing game one in.
09:53We're going to take game two, game three, and game four.
09:57And I think we're going to come out this thing.
09:59And the Warriors, Steph, Dray, they're going to do something that has never been done and
10:06be the first 10 seed to get to the Western Conference Finals.
10:09Now, after that, I don't know.
10:10But I think we're going to the Western Conference Finals.
10:12And I have to say, Mark, it's because of you.
10:15You were like, just believe.
10:17This is going to happen.
10:18Don't you want to see it?
10:20And you know what?
10:21After that tweet, I said, all right, he got me.
10:24You're right.
10:24I'm a believer.
10:25So they're going to go from trashy to classy, as I borrow from Dave Chappelle.
10:31There you go.
10:33Yeah, that was ashy, Larry.
10:35I'm going from ashy to classy.
10:37And remember, it's because of me.
10:39Yeah, that's the part I'm going to forget.
10:41I love it.
10:42Professors.
10:42Thank you, Professor.
10:43Thank you so much.
10:44At 9.13 last night, we are trash.
10:47Say it.
10:48Own it.
10:48The next day at 3.59, we're going to the Western Conference Finals.
10:55I mean, things change in a hurry.
10:58Along those lines, while we're all in mea culpa mode, my whole cockamamie play-in tournament take,
11:06it looks like I was wrong.
11:08Because three of the four.
11:09Did you have fun last night?
11:10It's not about whether or not I had fun.
11:12It is.
11:13Because I'm enjoying every day in my life now.
11:15Shout out my buddy, Eric Rivera, who's no longer with us.
11:18So that's more of an intentional goal of mine anyway.
11:21This is about the play-in tournament.
11:23Not just last night.
11:24Three of the four games were damn entertaining.
11:27They were thrilling.
11:28There was effort.
11:29And yeah, the whole idea of it being cockamamie is probably a little heavy-handed.
11:35And so when you're the 10 seed, like Steve Kerr said, you love it.
11:39When you're the 7 or the 8, you probably don't.
11:41But these four games so far, four of the six, three of them have been damn entertaining basketball games.
11:46I actually think what you just said is a factor in tomorrow night's game.
11:50And again, we've got tomorrow to talk about tomorrow.
11:53But I think it's a factor, which is when you're the 7 seed,
11:57and the Phoenix Suns have looked and played like one of the Western Conference playoff teams all year long.
12:03That's not even really been in doubt.
12:05In fact, they were challenging at times for the 6.
12:08And then the next thing you know is, okay, we're the 7, but that's okay.
12:13We've got two shots at home.
12:15I'm sure it'll go well.
12:17And then you go out there, and don't forget, Phoenix was up by like eight points
12:22with about three minutes to go in that game a couple of nights ago.
12:26And then they lost.
12:27And in the blink of an eye, you're now staring at 48 minutes against Steph Curry,
12:34or you go home.
12:36And so I think that is a tough mental spot for the Suns,
12:42while the Warriors are very, very thrilled to be where they are and still playing.
12:49I'm not doing the happy-to-be-here thing.
12:51Right, and moral victory, whatever.
12:52No, I don't think they don't care if they lose.
12:54I just think the Warriors are in a much more positive mental space right now than the Suns.
12:59Could be.
12:59I know there was some fresh Dylan Brooks sound from today
13:02talking about how he wanted the Warriors to win last night.
13:05Of course.
13:05For Draymond, for Steph, and for Steve Kerr.
13:09So he's got them in his crosshairs.
13:11But again, that's for tomorrow.
13:12Ooh.
13:14You should be worried.
13:16GP2 should have his head on a swivel.
13:18Well, there's that.
13:19Yep.
13:20You're listening to 95.7 The Game.
13:22KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco and Odyssey Sports Station.
13:25And the home of the Golden State Warriors and Valkyrie is always live on the free Odyssey app
13:29and coming to you live from the Laughing Monk Studios.
13:31888-957-9570.
13:33We're taking your phone calls the rest of the afternoon.
13:35What a day.
13:36What a night.
13:37That cockamamie stuff.
13:40I really do.
13:42I mean that.
13:42And I wanted to mention, besides all the pyrotechnics from Steph and Draymond's incredible defense,
13:50a couple of more subtle moments that I thought maybe you guys probably noticed also.
13:55There was a time in the second half when Steph was about to fling the ball from the backcourt to
14:01the forecourt,
14:02as he sometimes does, and it winds up in a horrible turnover with Steve Kerr pounding his forehead.
14:09And instead he pulled it back down.
14:11And I thought, that's Steph changing to playoff basketball and taking care of the ball.
14:17And I thought it was a really telling moment in addition to all the three-pointers.
14:22And the other one was when I saw a replay of Porzingis outside the circle anticipating the missed free throw
14:32and coming down the lane.
14:34It wasn't just a random event.
14:36You could see that he was planning it the whole time.
14:39And if he hadn't been planning it, it wouldn't have happened.
14:42So I hadn't gotten much of a chance to see Porzingis because he hasn't been playing here much.
14:47But I just was really impressed with his acuity, the awareness to do that.
14:53And aside from all the great stuff, I just wanted to mention those subtle things, see if you guys thought
14:59about it.
14:59Yeah, Don, great observations.
15:01Thanks so much.
15:02And this is what I'll say about both of them.
15:04I don't know if you heard Kristaps after the game talk about the fact that he tries that a lot.
15:10It's a maneuver that he tries.
15:12He's like, but I don't know that it's ever quite worked out, certainly not like it did last night.
15:17The timing has to be absolutely perfect.
15:20The ball needs to bounce in the right spot.
15:22But Kristaps had a couple of follow-up put-back dunks.
15:27And yes, one of them was off of a free throw miss last night.
15:30And that kind of size and presence in the middle of the lane for the Warriors is something that we've
15:38been longing for for a long, long time.
15:40And didn't see until last night.
15:43And I'm watching the replay right now.
15:44And they're down six, late first quarter.
15:46Pods is at the line.
15:47He struggled from the foul line.
15:49He hit a big one late.
15:50But Kristaps, and I don't know how you do this at seven foot three, but he is sneaking into the
15:55lane.
15:56And he, I mean, he's just like almost tiptoeing.
15:58And Miller for the Clippers is not even thinking about blocking him out.
16:02And next thing you know, it's a miss.
16:04And he's the only one there.
16:05And kabo.
16:06And then the other one was just a savage follow dunk.
16:09Two hands, hammer jam, swing on the rim.
16:13Those were big buckets.
16:14And he was actually a huge presence in that first half.
16:17Warriors 62% from the free throw line last night.
16:21The Clippers 100.
16:23That almost threatened the game.
16:25Was what was happening at the free throw line.
16:27Pods missed three.
16:28Porzingis missed two.
16:29As we said, Steph even missed one.
16:32Peyton and Melton both missed one.
16:33Nobody hit all their free throws for the Warriors.
16:35Everybody missed them.
16:36Even the chef.
16:37Yeah.
16:37Yeah.
16:38So anyway, that threatened them.
16:41And then the other thing he was talking about, about Steph sort of looking like he was going to do
16:46a lazy pass
16:47and then not throwing it.
16:48And that's postseason basketball.
16:50Agreed across the board.
16:52But going into tomorrow night, I don't want it to get lost that the Warriors were sloppy for three quarters
17:00last night.
17:02And I don't know about y'all, but this is probably why some of these tweets got sent here at
17:07the end of the third quarter.
17:08That was kind of a frustrating night up until then.
17:13The way the Warriors were playing, I was surprised that the Clippers did not have the game under control.
17:20Because the Warriors turned the ball over enough and weren't shooting well enough through three quarters to warrant being only
17:29down by six or seven points.
17:31And then they caught fire and then you see what happens.
17:34So the Clippers let the Warriors hang around despite a humongous, I believe, a number of 18 turnovers through three
17:41quarters.
17:42That's terrible.
17:44That's not an acceptable number.
17:46That's got to be better tomorrow night.
17:48The Clippers wound up with 17 for the game.
17:49So you can look at, you know, any possible metric.
17:53The Warriors had, Clippers had six in the third quarter.
17:56The Warriors had three.
17:57And so in that fourth quarter, the Warriors only three turnovers and they shot 75% from the floor.
18:03So that's what it took.
18:04It took them finally protecting the ball and shooting lights out.
18:08The Clippers were the sloppy team.
18:11Kawhi got twice taken away by Draymond Green.
18:13And in general, you had six turnovers and the other big piece, Darius Garland, because he was in foul trouble,
18:19was unable to really get into his flow of the game.
18:23And Brooke Lopez, you need him to play all 12 minutes in the fourth quarter.
18:27And he's just not, he's not that guy anymore.
18:30Yeah, 37 minutes for Brooke Lopez.
18:32Yeah.
18:33Probably too many.
18:34I guess they have no choice at the bid right now.
18:36You got rid of Zubats and thank God.
18:39Got rid of Zubats.
18:40Thank God you got rid of Zubats.
18:42But what were they doing?
18:44Getting rid of Zubats?
18:45What the hell were they doing?
18:46I think that the way they remade their team was actually a good move, but one of their bigs was
18:51hurt.
18:52And they were the first team ever to be 15 games below 500 and finished with a winning record.
18:57Yeah, they have a rookie seven-footer who recently got hurt and is out for the season.
19:01Who got hurt like a month ago.
19:03Oh, they got a rookie.
19:04He was awesome.
19:05Niederhauser, right?
19:06Yeah, Yannick Kohn and Niederhauser.
19:08When they were in chase early March, he was huge in that game and led them to a win.
19:14Say what you will.
19:17You've got it.
19:18Zubats is still a young player.
19:19They got a bunch of first-round picks back.
19:21Great.
19:22Great.
19:24Because they have none of those.
19:25Did you know what happened because they lost last night?
19:27Yes, I do.
19:28They're now in the lottery and that pick goes to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
19:31Yeah, which, I mean, the Warriors winning last night was a selfish act.
19:36If you think about the rest of the Western Conference.
19:38I hope the Thunder get the first pick.
19:41Wouldn't that be fun?
19:41That's my hope.
19:42DeBonsa, go ahead and leave him in the G League all year?
19:45Yeah, just let the NBA eat this ridiculous process that they're using.
19:49Just eat it.
19:50Just have the whole thing get screwed up.
19:52Let's do this.
19:54Let's just have anarchy.
19:56And the Thunder, they have two first-round picks.
19:59Yeah, hopefully they get one and two.
20:01Well, and the beauty for them is their pick, which will be number 30,
20:04that's the one they're giving up.
20:05Yep.
20:06They get Philly's pick, and then they get the Clippers pick, and so.
20:09Oh, I guess Philly's not in the lottery.
20:11They won.
20:11Right.
20:12Philly's in.
20:13Right, but Philly's going to be probably 16th.
20:16Middle of the pack, yep.
20:16And so you might wind up with number one and number 16 for a team that is
20:20already stacked, but there you go.
20:22Dan in San Lorenzo.
20:24Hi, Dan.
20:24Thanks for calling.
20:28Yo.
20:28Yo.
20:28Yo.
20:29That game, that game, I mean, what can we say?
20:35Like, that brought us back to, like, that brought me back anyway,
20:40to OKC, game six, Houston, game six.
20:45It was just, it brought everything back, you know?
20:50And I know this season has been just such crap, but, you know, it's like, hey,
20:58why not?
20:58Why can't we go win in Phoenix tomorrow?
21:00And why can't we push this OKC series to, like, six games, you know, and just
21:07bring, you know, just bring everything back?
21:12Listen, it's all on the table.
21:14Dan, thanks so much.
21:16To me, I'm not going to get to OKC yet, but the Phoenix thing, there's a piece of me that
21:21thinks the Warriors should win.
21:24Yeah.
21:24They're better.
21:25I don't know where they've been left physically, and they're on the road, so I could see them
21:30coming out a little bit flat, especially, I mean, the emotional rollercoaster of last
21:37night.
21:37That's a lot.
21:38That's a lot on a turnaround, and Phoenix is now going to be desperate and playing for
21:43their season lives and all those things.
21:45And they do have some talented players.
21:47I don't think the Warriors have faced Jalen Green all year, so now it's Booker and Green,
21:52and obviously Brooks is back, and so there's all of that.
21:56They're dangerous.
21:57I happen to think the Warriors, at this particular strength, are better.
22:02I think they're better than the Phoenix Suns, but I don't know where they sit physically,
22:06and it's one game, and it's a road game.
22:09So I'm not saying that they're definitely going to win, but in a vacuum, I think they're a better
22:14basketball team.
22:15I really do.
22:15Yeah, in a vacuum.
22:16I'm not worried about bouncing back after the emotional game, because you've got all
22:21these vets, and they know exactly how to do it.
22:23You played only eight guys.
22:24You're probably looking at the same sort of scenario again going into this one, but you
22:29mentioned Green and Booker, and they got Mark Williams, who is a pretty good active center,
22:34and so the matchups, again, will be critical.
22:37I know who is definitely rooting for the Warriors in this game.
22:41It's the Charlotte Hornets, because Charlotte gets Phoenix's pick.
22:44Phoenix loses, Charlotte's got two teams in the lottery.
22:49Big game, big night for Charlotte tomorrow.
22:51Yeah, no doubt.
22:52They're going to get into the playoffs, and then the Warriors play to send them to the
22:56lottery.
22:56They can wind up with no lottery picks, one or two.
22:59Yes, they could.
22:59Yes, they could.
