00:28The
00:29Belico is a beautiful valley, 2,000, 3,000 meter mountains on both sides, fresh snow
00:37on the tops of the mountains any time of the year.
00:42This time of year is really nice.
00:44The salmon bring everything to life.
00:46That's what brings the birds to the rivers, the bears to the rivers, and everything's
00:51here to feed on these fish.
00:55So we've got chinook, sockeye, coho, chum, and pinks all using this river, and they're
01:01the fish that the bears are after.
01:02They're the ones that are coming up to spawn, lay their eggs, and then of course they die.
01:07Belico itself is unique though in that it's got relatively high or a relatively high population
01:14of people, humans, compared to the number of bears.
01:21There's been indigenous people living here for millennia, and the people and the bears
01:28are interacting in a way that's not common in British Columbia.
01:31They're living in close proximity to each other, both finding their own ways to exist, and that
01:37can be harmonious or controversial depending on the circumstance.
