00:03I've decided not to go down the painting of door cards route actually I've acquired some new ones
00:09fantastic yeah yeah it's loads better you haven't ordered 50 have you I might have done were they
00:14expensive I had a bit of an issue this morning actually well I ordered a couple of exhaust
00:19clamps for my sidecar yeah yeah and 40 have turned up they hold the rocks and they're the wrong size
00:27and you can use them you can wrap them up with the footrest rubbers 50 of those yeah yeah I
00:35thought
00:35they were expensive yeah you did didn't you and we're off trawling Britain's sheds this is absolutely
00:44unbelievable for the most intriguing I have never ever seen one of these the most exciting oh now
00:53that is a naughty car the most surprising classic cars it is very you I love it we're gonna buy
01:02them
01:02fix them up and sell them for a tidy profit nice little earner hey this is shed and buried classic
01:19cars we're off to Essex and Fuzz is still moaning about the landy can I point something out what we're
01:27still in the Land Rover it's not gonna happen is it no it's just not gonna happen I can't afford
01:34it at
01:34the moment we gotta have a nice little earner and then we can get ourselves something decent about a
01:39transit van not okay yeah a tranny I could do that anyway look we're digressing we're gonna go and see
01:46Warren yes exactly he's in Essex yeah okay so he's out in out in the sticks in Essex all right
01:51now Warren
01:52yeah he has a selection of stuff he's got cars right he's got small commercials you know small vans
01:59I like small commercials yeah I think you know motorbikes because a lot of people in the country have
02:04motorbikes he's got a selection yeah is he French uh no but I think he actually might be Maltese oh
02:12I
02:13do like Malta the food if you like seafood Malta is absolutely amazing so it's where to be love it
02:20and there are loads of classic cars loads of classic motorbikes loads of classic vehicles I can't wait I'm
02:25all excited the place I can't wait to meet Warren yes come on let's get there come on Warren whether
02:33we
02:33come back with a bag of prawns and some crab sticks or a Plymouth Barracuda who knows but Warren's
02:39place in Essex here we come now Warren come on then tell us what cars do you love and what
02:49do you
02:49collect and what do you sort of gonna sell me I can sell you a lot of things can yes
02:54okay but for me
02:56it's fast Ford's I like all the Ford's okay Escorts Sierras that's right how did you get into that then
03:03uh my dad I think my dad always had mark ones yeah and I've always been into them I think
03:08they're a
03:08beautiful car so uh you've got an inviting looking shed there hasn't it yeah yeah that looks good so
03:14it's tall enough to be on two levels so is everything in there for sale everything's for sale oh okay
03:19that's
03:20good everything everything yeah well I'll tell you what we'll do is we'll have a little rummage about
03:25yeah yeah all right might call you in and ask you on a few things and then hopefully at the
03:29end of it
03:29brilliant we might be able to extract something from you perfect yeah that's all dead thanks okay
03:34thank you very much thank you all right mate we'll see you go on then lead on McDuff see you
03:39later Warren
03:40see you later oh blimey well why don't we start at the very beginning of the alphabet a for alpine
03:49now
03:50tell me was these alpines was that in James Bond well this is a no from me a doctor no
03:58do you get it it was in doctor no the first ever James Bond car was a Sunbeam Alpine
04:06introduced in 1959 the Sunbeam Alpine stayed in production till 1968 it's photogenic good looks
04:14earning its starring roles in everything from to catch a thief to the great St Trinian's train robbery
04:20what are you doing I'm just having a look underneath here because well these cars have something in
04:27common with your very good self they are dreadful rotters absolutely and so so I wanted
04:34to see what sort of state it was in underneath there's a lot of under seal under there which
04:39means I think it's probably had work done to it should we have a quick look at the engine bay
04:44do
04:44you think okay we could do yeah yes I mean I just thought perhaps if it is a potential yeah
04:51it might
04:52be worth just seeing what is underneath here you're still talking yeah you carry on Fuzz trying to find
04:58a pool prove that you know I have Sunbeam Alpines I've worked on them but I can't remember where
05:03he is I've heard it all before you can't have worked on them you can't even open a bomb it
05:07I'm just too
05:07embarrassed it's gonna be around somewhere Warren could you come here and help him out I thought he's an
05:14expert look anybody got a torch no but I've got a Warren move a side fuzzer left hand side look
05:21yeah
05:22I've just found it thanks mate pull it again you can't pull it again that's it there we are oh
05:30yeah
05:31hey Warren before you go yes tell us about this then mate we've had it for about two months now
05:36we've used it around to go out and about and it actually drives really really well well thanks so
05:42much for opening the bonnet I do appreciate that one day I'll work with a professional all right
05:50well look moving on okay I mean Warren's other morsels include a Maltese Mazda why on earth would
05:58you buy a car right yeah and then cover the seats in plastic so you don't wear them out you
06:04don't get
06:05them dirty what are you what are you what are you saving them for and a Skoda pickup there is
06:10a real
06:11following for those I know that yeah yeah but I can't really follow it but his trio of marina vans
06:19like my dart throwing what are we going for you said the high school all right look now I've just
06:26got a bullseye really hit the spot when did you last see three marina vans in a row yeah especially
06:34with one converted with rear seats in it oh yeah of course yeah you hardly ever see these anyway no
06:39but
06:39three of them in pretty immaculate condition yeah but look there's other stuff here as well oh now
06:45hang on come on come and have a look here now 1968 I reckon this is what Warren was talking
06:51about yeah
06:52yeah look at it man oh yes is this a lift up bonnet hang on mate here we go oh
07:00oh oh now that is a
07:02naughty car mate that is great so what's it got it's got a Cosworth yeah it's involved yeah it's
07:08got a Cosworth lump in there and it looks like it's been done very well there's been a little bit
07:12of the
07:13bulkhead cutback yeah it's just a whimsy just to drop her in but it fits very well it does look
07:18made for
07:19the job doesn't it yeah I bet this is a lot of fun and a lot of money what a
07:26lovely thing Warren's shed
07:29clutter includes a small tractor some even smaller quad bikes and a pair of diminutive mopeds nice
07:37little blue one and if you like them there's an orange one as well yeah why registration which
07:42is 1982 to 83 they're over 40 years old yeah but I do actually think they've got a nice resale
07:50value if
07:50we can get them at the right price yeah but there's one more car that demands attention now the elephant
07:57in the room is this lovely Vauxhall estate yes Vauxhall Victor is that what it is yeah the Vauxhall Victor
08:05was once Britain's most exported car over its 21 year production run there were several different
08:12estate versions this one though has clearly had a few modifications what I can see on the gear stick
08:19is that this has five gears five speed so I don't know whether this has got something else going on
08:27you
08:27know there's only one way to find out yeah we're gonna have to have a word with Warren Warren now
08:32Warren
08:33Fuzz needs to know how to open the bonnet on this one yeah all right very funny very funny can
08:39I just
08:40ask something Warren yeah it appears to have a five-speed gearbox it does so this one originally
08:46would have come out with a four-speed yes but back in Malta in the 70s the fuel will gone
08:52up so what
08:52they've done is they took the old engine out yeah and they put a C1 Toyota in it right made
08:57a diesel
08:57made with five-speed very economical so this is a diesel five-speed Victor yep can we just have a
09:03look under the bonnet see I think you can now you found it yeah all right you're never gonna let
09:08that
09:09one lie are you I'm joking look at that fits like a glove look at that plenty of space is
09:14it good for
09:15cruising is it it's very good usable car it's not gonna win any any speed shows or anything but again
09:20it sits on the motorway heavily and it will put up with indifferent use by poor drivers people who
09:27have no mechanical sympathy that sort of thing oh hello don't listen to him it's very forgiving there
09:35is a man who says the mechanic can't find the latch for all right okay well thanks for that that's
09:41brilliant all right here let's pop that down that's really odd isn't it and interesting I genuinely
09:47thought it would be a you know hotted up engine yeah no no it's a diesel well that's good it
09:53makes
09:53it usable and I think I like it so loads of choice but what will we go for okay there's
10:01the Victor
10:01yeah the Victor the Alpine as well Alpine's a nice idea and obviously any one of those Marina vans yeah
10:08quite like the white one actually yeah I don't think we could really stretch to the Escort because I think
10:13that's we can find out we might as well ask about everything we could ask about everything Ron seems
10:17a nice enough and approachable chap he does yeah you can ask yeah this is things this might be when
10:21that all changes it could be yeah I like that though come on so one look just to get a
10:31sighting lap
10:32first of all just to get a few prices yeah so why don't we start with the Vauxhall Victor with
10:36the
10:36diesel engine yeah I would like five and a half grand for that one okay I don't think you will
10:41find
10:41another one like it just out of interest what about the Escort it's a big number yeah it's a big
10:47number yes the Escort is around 50 grand yeah I could believe that right yeah okay let's talk
10:53Marina vans shall we yeah so the I tell the white one the Marina van that's it's five and a
10:58half thousand
10:59right okay hey now one over there right you've got a couple little Suzuki FZ50s yeah are they
11:05available they're available how much are they as a pair as a pair I'll take twenty eight hundred quid for
11:10them yeah and finally the Sunbeam the Sunbeam I would like six thousand pound for it okay would
11:17you be nearer the five for that I'll say I'll split it with you I'll be about 55 do you
11:28want an Alpine
11:41well we're down in Woking with Warren and his exceptional set of classic British cars oh
11:47oh now that is a naughty car we've bid five grand on a Sunbeam Alpine do you want an Alpine
11:55but he wants
11:56five and a half I think it could be quite nice I think it could be quite nice you've got
12:00to factor
12:01in a bit of paint work I don't know come on there we go let's go there we go there
12:05we are thank you
12:07very much thank you thank you all right okay Warren thank you so much thank you very much thank you
12:11very much thank you I'm in yeah all right mate and we definitely want to come back okay better uh
12:15better go and get some uh yeah if you were all right we'll do thank you great cheers Warren all
12:20right
12:20oh I'm left alone to contemplate next day back at the shed we discover guy and Alan are shaken and
12:32stirred but a little bewildered is that what you call top and dab what are you talking about
12:37splodges of paint this is just over exuberant protection one little tiny chip off the paint
12:43yeah bludge of red oxide primer yeah stop it rusting and it will stop it rusting underneath
12:49that it probably looks quite nice yeah so I think I think you know rub down and given a a
12:54quick once
12:55over a quick blast it could look quite presentable and no we're going to respray it well can I just
13:01say I was looking past all that right I absolutely love these cars this is the first bond car it
13:08is
13:08yeah right Sean Connery drove this in doctor no yeah did he really sorry yeah okay it was dark blue
13:15so
13:16this is going to go dark blue in homage yeah to some of my favorite films that's right well I
13:22mean
13:22you know we call you doctor no behind the scenes because if we need anything you always say no
13:28also was there one of these did you get Carter oh yeah may well have been I may be wrong
13:33in that as
13:34well but either way they are iconic they are yeah and I've never driven one so looking forward to
13:39that immensely its general condition is good it does have a lot of under seal underneath but I think
13:45that's because somebody has has repaired it done the repairs and they didn't want anything to start
13:50coming back any of the rot to come back okay all right so I think it's been well cared for
13:54there
13:55but agreed cosmetically it could look a little better it's challenge I'll tell you what we should
14:01do tomorrow right is take the hard top off and have a good look at how that all fits together
14:06and what
14:06is left of the soft top yes oh can I say while I was rummaging with this there's a tonneau
14:11cover in
14:11the boot okay well we can have a look at all that right I personally think we should powder coat
14:16the
14:17wheels uh ivory yes good idea I think really we should just pay homage to one of our greatest British
14:25institutions which is James Bond yeah of course great idea you think so yeah I think so yeah let's
14:31go for it I think we should yeah celebrate and uh get into the whole James Bond thing do you
14:36know what
14:37I mean just for a laugh does that mean we're gonna have a car chase here we go I'm gonna
14:40do it there we
14:41are get off it what's that what shaken not stirred James Bond isn't it Bond it's not a martini though
14:50is it
14:50yeah next morning jelly's in the hot seat as fuzz and skid prepare to do battle do you know what
15:03I
15:03think we should do skid get everything that's in the boot out let's take the roof off yeah spark it
15:09up
15:10and uh have a little pre uh pre-work test run Henry is hoping to paint this although I don't
15:15know if the
15:16jury's out on that but we'll just check it out it's a big job because there is a lot of
15:21red oxide blobbed
15:22on here and it's thick as tar I know but hopefully it's protected it it's done its job first task
15:31empty
15:32the surprisingly voluminous boot now a tonneau cover I think is a thing of joy because there we've got the
15:38little hump for the steering wheel there yeah seat belts they're in the back right okay what we got in
15:46the bag ah here we are bedtime reading fuzz yeah lots of bedtime reading alpine alpine horn it's the
15:55calling document of the Sunbeam Alpine Club probably oh yes a couple of aftermarket mats there's more
16:03clutter here than the average auto jumble but eventually it's empty can I just say first I
16:10think that looks reasonably solid yeah I think it is I think that's great actually it's not bad it's a
16:15little patch it there but generally speaking this is good I think the next thing we should do is check
16:23the lights static right have we got brake lights yes indicators yes left hand yes rear tail lights
16:33yeah a little bit dim but I don't know how bright they're meant to be but yeah they're both on
16:38okay
16:38um what about headlights yes both of them yes and dip and main beam yes it's flickering yeah it's gone
16:46the other
16:46way so yeah dip and main beams working there we are indicators indicators right hand that one's working
16:53and that side lights working neither of those two are come on let's get the roof off okay
17:02the hard top comes off easily enough revealing some seat covers that should have been left in the boot
17:10these bright blue ones stick out like a sort yeah they don't really go with the door panels do they
17:16right fuzz yes final thing before we go for a spin I think we should just have a quick look
17:21in the
17:21engine bay very good the oil okay now I know exactly where the bonnet pull is on oh do you
17:27I do yes
17:28oh good man yeah I embarrassed myself a little while ago yeah when we picked it up there we go
17:34what size engine is this fuzz this is 17 25 cc's it's quite pokey for a little car really oil
17:42level
17:43is good okay we are up to maximum and so is the radiator have a look in there yeah we've
17:49got coolant
17:49as well right there we go all that remains to do is take her for a spin oh it starts
18:00okay oil pressure's
18:02good yeah oil pressure's excellent yeah yeah okay off we go all right smooth takeoff just test the
18:08brakes now yeah hold tight oh they're all right yeah those are very nice yeah they inspire confidence
18:15oh perfect this may not be a Caribbean island but doesn't the Sunbeam look great it's got a bit of
18:26go to it it's lovely yeah it's very smooth yeah no rattles no bangs this is a really nice little
18:35car
18:35it is isn't it it looks worse than it is only because of the paperwork that's true and the trim
18:40we
18:41could do with straightening up the steering wheel yeah getting the gauges working yeah but other than
18:47that it's surprisingly good yeah I could imagine someone growing very fond of this yeah because it
18:54goes well yeah I can see why people wanted these cars when they were around okay can you feel the
19:00sap rising not at my age oh back in the shed time for some stripping before it goes out to
19:12be painted
19:13can I just ask you straight up yes is this a good car it is actually is it yeah it
19:19is it drives really
19:20well it's quick off the mark isn't it it is quick off the mark yeah it's lovely it doesn't rattle
19:25no
19:25it doesn't rattle there are a number of gauges that don't work the rev counters a tad optimistic yes
19:30yes so it's right double and the the fuel gauge the fuel gauge is either Henry Cole standard or isn't
19:37working or is that empty yeah yeah well below it well it looks like it's a woolen unicorn yeah it's
19:47got a
19:48little horn this was very good in this with the roof down because it wasn't the warmest of days
19:52sure hey can I just say um we need to get the new door cards and seat covers don't we
19:58they need to be
19:59black yes yeah I think so yes I think it could do with being all black interior right because then
20:05you know I think that kind of gathers it all together no absolutely I completely agree is it
20:11just ready to respray in the sense of ready to prep well yeah we're just getting ready to get some
20:16of
20:16this trim off so that it can go into the into the paint shop with the minimum of fuss are
20:23we going
20:23to go dark doctor no James Bond blue I think we should stick with the color that this is right
20:33because if we try and color change it then we have to do all the door shuts lots of little
20:37bits the
20:38engine bay all of that kind of thing so yeah really we just need a little bit of a little
20:42bit of a fluff
20:43over okay because obviously I mean we paid quite a lot for this yeah yeah it's a nice car it's
20:50good
20:51it's sturdy it's quite together but it looks awful are we gonna send the hard top in with it or
20:58not
20:58yes definitely yeah okay it does add value when you're selling it yeah definitely definitely well
21:03should we discombobulate then yeah yeah yes oh hold on you ought to go and sit down you know
21:10oh he moves quick enough then yeah he's quick enough there yeah it's the only time he does move quick
21:14then there's hard work to be done in rapid succession off come the wipers
21:21set the badge the door handles and the door cards you got it yes well done you're a car mechanic
21:33and
21:33those seat covers which hide a variety of evils now fuzz we've got a cream seat this side oh right
21:40okay
21:40well you can see exactly why those covers have been put on there can't we that's not a good look
21:45but most
21:46things come off without too much trouble look at that or of course we could yeah I'll scratch that
21:56straight away the chrome work thankfully is it much better nick than the paint and comes off easily at
22:05the beginning of the day we had a complete car but now all the lovely trim and detailing has been
22:11removed
22:12sorting the pop-marked paintwork is going to be a real challenge let's hope it's not mission impossible
22:32oh perfect we've picked a good'un with our latest purchase a series 4 Sunbeam Alpine it's got a bit
22:39of
22:40go through a nice lovely yeah all it needs now is a fresh paint job so having stripped off all
22:47its
22:47chrome we've sent it over to Wayne the painter hey well welcome to Wayne's Gaff where we get everything
22:55sprayed now the Alpine came here yesterday I'll go and see what's going down oh yes hello Henry
23:05legend how you doing hey look blimey that was quick we've started this side we've not started
23:10that side so look under here looks pretty all right does it or what have you found it's a standard
23:15old
23:15car really okay you know it's been painted a few times before the last time it was painted yeah the
23:22paint has failed and the primer underneath it is failed so we're having to take all that off back to
23:29previous where there isn't any problem is micro blistered if you look at all that look little
23:34dots all over the paint how does that happen micro blistering through well it is damp good chance it
23:40would have been wet flatted the primer right unless it's dried thoroughly before you paint it you're gonna
23:46get trouble and when you get a frost or some cold weather that moisture freezes yeah and pops up and
23:52that's when you get all those little dots and the only way to get rid of that is is to
23:56get rid of it
23:57just just to flat it off completely yeah it'll all be good we'll we'll do all these areas uh get
24:04rid
24:04of all this rust cure it epoxy prime over the bare bits and then high build primer block we've got
24:11the
24:11paint code on here oh have we we have yet tells us what it is so we can get that
24:15going no problem
24:16whatsoever that's fantastic okay so that can all go well yeah mm now then because we want to do a
24:23little sort of james bond homage uh sunbeam alpine was the first bond car oh really sean connery
24:31actually drove mate i can't wait to see the finished article as ever man a genius at work get going
24:45and on that encouraging note i'll leave him to it
24:51back at the ranch our other motoring michelangelo has started on the bumpers
24:57while wayne is painting the actual car i'm going to take the opportunity uh to clean these up they
25:04are a little bit pitted in places but we are not re-chroming this because what well it's not bad
25:10enough to have to warrant doing it so uh while the weather's lovely outside trestle table some wire
25:16wool cloth chrome polish happy days
25:22i can uh do this drink tea and i'm in peace and quiet because everyone else has disappeared
25:29for skin it's a question of working with what's there but wayne's got to build the paint finish
25:34layer by layer two days later after grinding off all the filler and red oxide wayne has sprayed on a
25:43coat of epoxy primer to seal the metal there was quite a lot of filler in this car there was
25:49quite a
25:49lot of cracks so we've obviously had to no choice we've had to take it back and sort that issue
25:56out
25:56otherwise it's just going to fail in no time at all this arch here this is the one that had
26:02a big
26:02sort of crack along it to reveal when we dug it out that there's actually a considerable depth of
26:10filler in that panels it's the same old thing with these old cars they all look good until you start
26:16digging and you're opening up a can of worms touch wood there'll be no more worms so after a quick
26:23wipe down with a tack rag to remove any dust wayne moves on to the next stage unlike the epoxy
26:30primer
26:30this is now going to be a high build primer and that's designed to give us a good layer so
26:36we can
26:36block it back and it's a four to one mix and we're going to give that probably three to four
26:42coats
26:43once we've got a good build of primer on it gives us plenty of product to block down
26:49prior to the next stage as ever the key to spray painting whether you're doing it with a rattle can
26:55or a professional spray gun is to keep everything moving and aim for multiple layers of paint that's
27:01the first coat of primer applied we've got about another three or four coats of that to go on there
27:06and then we'll get it baked up nice and dry move it back into the middle room for preparation ready
27:13for
27:13the next stage which will be the paint back at the shed skid has hand polished the bumpers and moved
27:25on to the polishing mop for the hubcaps they need a little more hardcore work but the results speak for
27:32themselves this one was the worst pitted and most horrible of the four there we go imagine when all
27:41four of them are like that it'll look fantastic and it hasn't really cost much apart from my time
27:47which is very cheap saving money on the chrome has enabled us to go big on the paint job which
27:55after three coats of primer has reached its main stage the top coat so this is a direct gloss 2k
28:04which means we don't need to lacquer it we can just paint it straight on full gloss
28:11Wayne's now using acrylic paint but his technique is the same keeping the spray gun moving and achieving
28:19a depth of color by spraying on the three coats
28:25i'm really happy with that because um it was a mess and now it looks good now we're going to
28:31get the
28:32other panels prepped
28:36two days later the alpines back at base looking lovely do you know i think wayne's done a great
28:42job hey what do you think skiddly i think it's fantastic and i know for a fact when all the
28:47adornments go on yeah it will look amazing it will and look i have to tell you obviously the bonnet
28:52and
28:52the boot are on their way yes right and also the hubcaps when they go on there they are spangly
28:58oh yes baby
28:59i just like polishing all the chrome stuff i find it rewarding it's definitely therapeutic yeah
29:04yeah what's a pay rise oh yeah yeah well now you mention it yeah there you are you see hey
29:10look
29:10over there in the box and we'll reveal them later uh i decided that instead of trying to look for
29:17black seat covers yeah it's actually cheaper to buy some new black seats right okay what specific to
29:23this car uh specific to any general car that wanted some bucket seats so then yeah so that
29:29yeah so that might mean that we've got to do an amount of adjustment because maybe
29:35the seats might fit onto these bases onto these slightly although maybe we'll have to take
29:41all of that out yeah and put some other base sliders in let's just hope they fit onto those rails
29:48anyway all i know right is we've got ourselves a beautiful basis thanks to wayne for us to now
29:55adorn and adorn it we will there we are oh yeah don't drop it don't scratch the paintwork and out
30:03it comes
30:06i think they're rather nice those don't you fuzz works on the seat fittings alan and skid
30:12refit the brackets that hold the bumpers the one thing i'm worried about al is scratching this car
30:18yeah there's a lot of fresh paint isn't there yeah because his lordship will kick off if we do
30:23and i've been sucked into some hoovering you're doing a great job no i'm not
30:32the chrome work goes on smoothly but as suspected fitting the new seats is going to be more complicated
30:39and will require some surgery and at least another day's work
30:48next day i'm proved right
30:51so what i've done is i've made these these adapter plates yeah which adapt the width of the seat
30:58fixings to the width of the of the mounting points in the car of the runners yeah so so now
31:05we've got new
31:06runners to go with our new seats and they're fixed in are they uh not quite fixed in they're just
31:11loosely fitted at the moment yeah but it all goes together yeah so i'm doing a trial assembly it's
31:16never as easy as you think of course not it's an old car yeah i did think i'd save money
31:24by purchasing
31:25brand new seats but with all the time fuzz is taking to fit them i'm not so sure i think
31:31i finally got the
31:31amazing of the seats worked out but at the moment i'm working upside down and back to front it's all
31:36kind of very confusing while i'm putting it together the alpine was marketed as a sophisticated tourer
31:43a more refined version of your triumph 4 mgb sports car hence all the chrome and expensive fittings
31:51bucket seats were standard finished in leatherette or microcelled there we go there's our seat in
31:58and adjustable it's only taken about three months to do it i've only got one more to do
32:05it takes another couple of hours to get all the door cards and the second seat in but by the
32:11middle
32:11of the afternoon come on then well done will you stop fighting please stop fighting
32:19i'm back from a canine constitutional and from the sounds of it they're virtually done have you finished
32:26yeah i think so bean do you want to try it in you get i thought you might like to
32:29try as well
32:30i do yeah i just want to make sure there's plenty of space in there god fuzz this has taken
32:34a rather
32:35long time hasn't it but my word i don't know if that's a complaint or whether that's i think it's
32:40going to be worth it oh yeah that's as far away from the steering wheel as i can get you
32:47just perfect i could actually come in a little yeah yeah well it's fully adjustable sir is it yeah
32:52come on then in you get you going in bean come on bean come on then come on here you
32:59just go there
32:59is it comfy yeah man it's great oh yes fuzz it's been all worth jolly good not moving about i
33:07tell
33:07you what it's really comfy feeling secure yeah i do those seats are slightly more bucket-y aren't they
33:13so they cup you a little better i'm so pleased that i didn't do the covers yeah do you know
33:19i am as well
33:20though it's been a bit of a faff to fit them i think it's a better i think it's a
33:24better finish
33:24yeah well look hopefully tomorrow we'll get the bonnet and the and the boot and everything else
33:30mate and we'll be nearly there well done lads you've done a great job i'm sorry i took a long
33:34well a two-day dog walk yeah yeah so the car's starting to look great but when we take it
33:41out
33:42on a james bond style mission will it live up to expectations and prove that like diamonds sunbeams
33:49are forever
34:01well why don't we start at the very beginning of the alphabet a for alpine a month ago we bought
34:08a sunbeam
34:09alpine from a shed in essex would you be nearer the fine for that i'll split it 55 fantastic we
34:17tested
34:18it it's got a bit of go to it it's lovely yeah fettled it yes thank you and treated it
34:28to a brand
34:29new paint job i'm really happy with that it was a mess now it looks good now the bonnet that's
34:37better
34:38that's it that's better and the boot that's it that's lovely have been refitted leaving time for
34:45just one final adornment there we go look at that oh come on a wooden steering wheel they are beautiful
34:54they are they're stunning they are when we started on our alpine it was good from far but far from
35:02good
35:02now whether you're close up or admiring it from distance it's now locked and loaded and ready to roll
35:13oh come on see that's good hand movements are good like that proper shiny isn't that that looks
35:18lovely that is beautiful mate isn't it hey fuzzer it's lovely isn't it look at that it looks amazing
35:27when you think back to all the red oxide on it yeah yeah i mean look at it now that's
35:31proper and the
35:32interior the seating arrangement now considering it was that horrible light blue it really is something
35:40very special now this is a car for an enthusiast somebody who likes doing a few yeah doing a few
35:47little things with it but the body's good though which is okay isn't it that's right so you can use
35:51it enjoy it but also have a little bit of a little bit of fettling yeah it really is lovely
35:57but as they
35:58all say in a trade it may look great but does it ride now fuzzer yes uh you're driving obviously
36:04okay fantastic and i will just come as an accoutrement so look you can have tea yes and uh we'll
36:11have
36:11rather good fun we'll stand here in the sunshine and await for a full report yeah yeah great wait for
36:15the phone call it breaks down that's much more likely actually
36:22and we're off at low speed it's a little sluggish could do with possibly a little bit of a tune
36:29here and there all right is that why it's spluttering no it's not so much spluttering it's just
36:34it's just hesitating a little it's been a while since it's been on the road such a great shame that
36:40we've had to leave alan and guy behind for this test ride it is but as svelte as they are
36:45i think
36:46they'd have trouble getting into this back seat they wouldn't get back would they no but once we
36:52move up a gear it comes into its own now we're on a bigger road we're what they call in
36:59the trade
36:59booting it slightly oh yeah yeah it's not a bad goer i'm rather enjoying it are you yeah i'll tell
37:08you
37:08what your hands on a motor leader steering wheel look as though they're really enjoyable that's true
37:13and you're just doing the tentative beautifully i like doing the tentative oh look it's a classic
37:18car oh yeah eat on yeah beautiful man that would go really well with this wouldn't it it would yeah
37:25quintessentially british yeah i think so really this is this is a great small yeah lightweight sports car
37:34of the 60s i'll tell you why it's got a place in my heart because my dear father-in-law
37:40god rest his soul
37:41david yeah right he had an alpine did he know one of his his first kind of sports car yeah
37:48but he
37:48was such a dude man he was a tailor in saddle road i met him he was a very very
37:53stylish fellow and he
37:54used to wear in the 70s flared purple velvet suits fantastic what a dude oh he was such a dude
38:02anyway
38:03uh look the alpine required to be of him in total around 70 000 alpines were built with an estimated
38:11six to seven hundred still on the road in the uk long may that continue
38:19do you know what i'm feeling like uh i don't know what are you feeling like wait a minute i
38:25know what
38:25you're feeling like what you always feel like what's that cup of tea yeah yeah why not and we
38:31know a place to go for it very good idea absolutely well i think this has been quite a successful
38:36little run in this mate i'm thrilled with it yeah yeah i think it's lovely do you know i could
38:41i could
38:42quite get into having one of these i mean well i've always kind of fancied myself as james bond you
38:49know it was like that yeah wasn't it like that yeah and wasn't there a big black car with two
38:55hooded villains in it yeah you've made quite a good chance do you think so yeah
39:01sort of mellow anyway dream on
39:10looks like over company
39:11i don't like the look of those guys at all i'm gonna shake them off
39:26these guys mean business
39:32tooting the horn not using their indicators

39:53there's a 20 mile per hour limit coming up my life may be in danger
39:58but i'm not going to put anybody else's life in danger
40:0220 miles per hour it is i hope that they're going to keep to the speed limit as well
40:25it's going to be in danger
40:25yeah there we go showing up a clean pair of heels now that we're out on the open road
40:30they'll never keep up with this alpine
40:39if only there was a turn that i could take somewhere right here
