Ever wondered how a raw carbon bike frame gets its precision details? Join us for Part 7 of our series as we dive into the world of CNC machining. Witness how state-of-the-art 5-axis machines drill, cut, and perfect the frame in a single, automated process.

00:00This is what XDS calls its CNC Army.
00:03How do you make a carbon bike?
00:06This is the series where we reveal the secrets of producing World Tour level bikes.
00:10Part 6 – CNC Machines
00:13Our freshly cooked frame still needs some attention.
00:16Things like front mech holes being drilled,
00:18bottle cage bosses being added,
00:20and the bottom bracket threads still need to be turned.
00:23This used to be about 6 different processes,
00:26but with the latest 4 and 5 axis CNC machines,
00:29this is a task that can now be completed by just one machine,
00:33with a variety of different tool bits,
00:35which amazingly can change themselves.
00:38There's over 6 million US dollars worth of machines in this room alone,
00:42so it's easy to see why XDS calls this their CNC Army.
00:46Next stop, we need to find some seat stays and chainstays.
00:49Follow along to see if we can find some.
