00:01Bonjour!
00:02Six couples stepped up to chase the same life-changing prize.
00:06I can't believe we're here.
00:08Stunning.
00:09Look at this view, Brett.
00:10Welcome to the best bed and breakfast.
00:13The keys to their own dream five-bedroom B&B.
00:20Four expert judges put them under the spotlight.
00:24Slightly chaotic, as they say, up north.
00:27The competition has been so tough this week.
00:29They did drop the ball pretty, pretty, pretty badly.
00:33Oh!
00:34Across two weeks, they hosted real guests
00:36and tackled intense challenges every day.
00:40Whoa!
00:41Look at it. Stop asking me questions.
00:43I've posed it all up again.
00:45Brett, we have a problem!
00:46At which point do we start to panic?
00:49Now, six couples have become four.
00:52No!
00:54Actually, actually...
00:56Thank you so much!
01:00This week, the final four will be pushed to their limits.
01:05They have to do everything right this week.
01:07The competition is fiercer than ever.
01:09Now you real owners are here.
01:11How do you spell team love?
01:12Breast forgotten tomatoes.
01:14Don't panic.
01:15Because at the end of this week, someone will walk away with a new life in France.
01:21You have won the bed and breakfast.
01:25Previously...
01:26Are you ready for this fight?
01:28Bring it on!
01:29The dream came within reach.
01:32Wow!
01:33Oh, my God!
01:35As the finalists plotted a future that could be theirs.
01:38I'm lost for words.
01:40I want it so, so bad.
01:42Oh, my God!
01:43Hello there!
01:44And Nicola and Roy...
01:46Here we go.
01:47...began their fight to claim it.
01:50There's a lot of silence.
01:52The sun is up and the heat is on for the finalists battling to win the B&B of their dreams.
02:09Oh, Steve, I'm loving this, you.
02:11Oh, look at it!
02:12The Jacksons are here!
02:16Oh, Steve.
02:17They're special.
02:19We really want this, don't we?
02:21Come on!
02:23I'm cutting up the soda bread for the judges' breakfast.
02:27And they can have it with homemade marmalade and jam.
02:31Or a big slab of butter.
02:33I'm not nervous.
02:34I always say them just like the little duck.
02:37Nice and calm on top and then down here.
02:41Bonjour, deux cafés.
02:43Deux cafés, oui.
02:44Si vous plaît.
02:45Si vous plaît.
02:46We want this as a family-run business.
02:48We want to pass this down to our children and maybe to their children and have this property and our family for years and years.
02:57This looks lovely, doesn't it?
02:59It's quite nice.
03:01It's a nice picture.
03:02A bit more relaxing.
03:03Yeah.
03:04This is just the start and I think we've worked really hard to start it.
03:09I feel like we deserve it.
03:10The finals week is off the starting blocks.
03:20Well, it's good.
03:21Well, it's very good, yeah.
03:23And the pressure is on because this week the judges are staying over so they can experience each couple's culinary and hosting skills 24-7.
03:33Last time, in the heats, they had the luxury of being in their own property.
03:38Yeah.
03:39Here they're having to host us.
03:42And only 24 hours.
03:43Exactly.
03:44And they have to shine for those 24 hours.
03:46First up, Nicola and Roy, who are now halfway through their time hosting the guests who can change their lives.
03:53You know what we need?
03:55A bread knife.
03:56In case anybody wants to stay somewhere, it's got a bread knife sitting.
04:00We'll be at the sink.
04:02I did feel a little bit trepid about coming and being a guest because we've only observed Raya.
04:08But I walked through the door and it just felt like we were actually having a little holiday.
04:15It feels like they've been living in the house for months.
04:18And I keep telling myself, this is about running a B&B.
04:22It is.
04:23And we've got to feel that we could sit, relax, have a drink, have a chat to them, go and sit in the garden, eat a book if we want.
04:29I feel I could walk down there now and it wouldn't matter what they were doing, what they were up to, they'd give me a warm welcome.
04:35Yeah.
04:36I've had a cry this morning because I went in to set the dining table and realised that this is the first and last breakfast we'll ever do or this is the first of many, many breakfasts we'll do.
04:51And I just had a bit of a, I've had my 10% wobble today and I had a cry because neither of us want to leave this house but we know we have to today to let the other people have their turn.
05:05But now comes Nicola and Roy's biggest challenge because in the heat weeks it was the breakfast that tripped them up.
05:18Breakfast this time, we're not taking no risks. It'll be a traditional French breakfast. I think the first time we elaborate it in too much.
05:27We are doing eggs because it's a simple thing. As long as the poached eggs aren't served cold.
05:33Was that a dig at me, darling? No, darling.
05:41So I took it out and put it on a plate there, right?
05:44So I put all my yoghurts in there and it'll look all nice and pretty. And I'll keep it nice and cool.
05:52Hi, good morning. Morning. Morning. How are you?
05:55Did you sleep okay? Yes, how did you sleep? Yes, very well.
05:58Very, very well. Excited for another day.
06:01Can I take a seat in the dining room? Sure, thank you very much.
06:05I think he's realised very quickly that there were issues with some of the dishes, especially the eggs benetics.
06:10So I'm hoping he's toned everything down and just focused on delivering a high quality breakfast.
06:18Morning. Good morning, Nicola. How are you? How are you? How are we?
06:22You okay? Yes, did you sleep okay? Oh, absolutely. Yes, like a top.
06:26They were quite ambitious in their choices of breakfast in the first week, so they got themselves into a bit of a pickle.
06:33Good morning. Good morning, Andrew. Good morning. How are you?
06:36Yeah, I was good. Good morning. How are you, brother?
06:38When you are a professional chef, come on. Yeah, bring it. Yeah, bring it on.
06:42Show us what you've got. Exactly.
06:44I think the girls have decided where you're sitting.
06:46Bonjour. Bonjour.
06:48You want us this side, do you?
06:50We want you to sit next to each other just in case you get separation anxiety, if you want.
06:58While it's Nicola and Roy's big moment...
07:01Michelle and Steve are waking up with a more relaxed start to the day.
07:08Do you want a coffee, Michelle?
07:10Oh, yes, please.
07:12They're staying at a treehouse B&B as part of their mission to build a standout business plan for the end of the week.
07:20Right, I'm on it, Steve. I'm raring to go.
07:24You've made yourself look pretty.
07:26It doesn't take a lot.
07:28You've been in there two hours.
07:34The owners of this unique B&B are Brits Nat and Andy, who moved to France ten years ago.
07:42And every morning Nat delivers breakfast by hand.
07:48Bon appetit!
07:49Thank you!
07:52Come on, Michelle, this is how you get muscles, this, innit?
07:55Oh!
07:56Oh, this looks posh, doesn't it?
07:58Right, go on, I'll hold that.
08:00Right, come on, let's have a look.
08:03How do you open it, then?
08:05I love the excitement of what's in there.
08:07Oh, my God!
08:09How beautiful is this?
08:11Oh, you can smell it.
08:12Yeah.
08:13You can smell bakery.
08:14Oh, pan of chocolates.
08:15No, there's a proper word for that.
08:18Panet chocolate.
08:19Yes.
08:23Wow.
08:25There you go.
08:27No, I'm having a caution.
08:29I mean, this is on another level.
08:32It's wowsers.
08:33You know, and that's what we want.
08:34When they walk into our prize home, we want them to say wowsers.
08:41Do you know what?
08:42It's made us realise even more that this is what we want to do.
08:46We want to host.
08:47We want to look after people.
08:48We want to have fun with people.
08:51And you know what?
08:52This has just absolutely put the fire in the belly even more.
08:55I didn't think it could, but it did.
09:02Bye!
09:03Bye!
09:04Bye!
09:05Bye!
09:06Bye!
09:07Bye!
09:12I think they've got great personality.
09:14I think they'll be incredible hosts.
09:16I wish them the best of luck.
09:17I have no doubt they'll do very well.
09:19Yeah.
09:20I think they're really nice people and they'll go far.
09:24As Michelle and Steve leave bursting with ideas,
09:27they've left behind one of their own,
09:30just in case Nat and Andy fancy following in their unique footsteps.
09:44Meanwhile, it's crunch time at the prize B&B.
09:48Here's food.
09:50Lots of it.
09:51And lots of it.
09:52I hope you're hungry.
09:57And after issues in heat week, there's simply no room for error.
10:03And we have, um...
10:05What's wrong?
10:07Crousois cake.
10:08Crousois cake?
10:09Yeah.
10:10Made with hazelnuts from the region.
10:13Okay.
10:15There's some yogurts there.
10:16There's more as well.
10:17That's all that fit in the dish.
10:19That's pretty.
10:20Oh, wow.
10:21Did you ice the dish?
10:22Aww.
10:23I've made a...
10:24I'm glad you noticed.
10:25I made a little ring and put flowers in it just to make it look nice and keep the oil.
10:27That's sick.
10:28It's very pretty.
10:29Nicola, you could wear that as a crown.
10:31It would melt very quickly.
10:32The judges need to see improvement today and local produce will be the key.
10:44This is so good.
10:45It is good.
10:47That's very clever.
10:48So, who made the cake?
10:49Me.
10:50It's delicious.
10:51It is lovely.
10:52It's very good.
10:53Very good.
10:54It's a lovely bite from the hazelnuts as well still.
10:55Mmm.
10:56Mmm.
10:57It's very good.
10:58Very good.
10:59It's a lovely bite from the hazelnuts as well still.
11:01Mmm.
11:02Mmm.
11:03Good.
11:04Just in case it's not enough, would anyone like any eggs?
11:05Boiled?
11:06Poached?
11:07Scramble?
11:08Honestly, I...
11:09Everyone okay?
11:10Yeah.
11:11Yeah?
11:12I think this is great.
11:14Is this the soda bread?
11:15That's the Irish soda bread.
11:16Ah, it's made for us.
11:17Yes.
11:18So, hope you enjoy it.
11:19With four very good hosts this week, no one can afford any slip ups.
11:26This week, all judges will have to be even more critical of everything because the price
11:32is so big.
11:33I think this competition is going to make or break people, you know, and really see who
11:40can actually run a B&B and who can't.
11:42I mean, if they're not on form every minute of those 24 hours, they could drop the ball.
11:48Have you tried your orange juice yet?
11:50Yeah.
11:51Is it good?
11:52Revolting.
11:53Revolting.
11:54Revolting.
12:07In the limousine, Nicole and Brett are out shopping in a local market, getting ready
12:12to take charge of the prize house.
12:14I think we'll get a lot of things here to be honest.
12:17Yeah.
12:18I think you can get most things here.
12:19You can get your fresh bread if you want it.
12:21As the second hosts to enter the house, they'll need to show they can embed in this region.
12:28By providing a locally sourced dinner and breakfast.
12:32I guess we have to raise the bar this time, maybe free in a few extra specials.
12:43But I don't know how we're going to do that.
12:45We need to put our heads together and think.
12:47So, Brett, if we just pop the cherries on then with lovely croissants, just kind of put
12:52out that continental kind of.
12:54Yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:55And then we can talk about how they're seasonal.
12:57Merci.
12:58Merci.
12:59Merci.
13:00B&Bs in this region rely on dinners to bring in extra income.
13:05Don't think in the butcher spread.
13:07Okay, bacon, yeah.
13:09So, this challenge is designed to show who has the recipe for success.
13:16Je voudrais, toi, patron, fumig.
13:19This one.
13:22We've had our feedback from the judges, so...
13:24We'll take it on board.
13:25Yeah, we've took it on board.
13:27They did mention the pressure and the stress maybe came across in our faces.
13:31So, we do need to smile, like Brennan says, and have fun.
13:37That's perfect, perfect.
13:39We're good hosts, we're good learners, and we're just ready for this.
13:46Brett, that's like 10 euro for that.
13:48That's why I know it's not right.
13:50Bye.
13:53It's not right.
13:543... oh, okay.
13:55No, it's 310.
13:57310?
13:58Yeah.
13:59I got it.
14:00Merci.
14:03Shop complete.
14:04Now Nicole and Brett's 24 hours of scrutiny is about to begin.
14:10We are super ready.
14:11Let's go.
14:12Game one.
14:13We have been waiting for today, so we're ready.
14:23Meanwhile, it's time for the judges' verdict on Nicola and Roy's breakfast service.
14:32So, what do you think of the breakfast selection?
14:35It's really good.
14:36Jolly good.
14:37Yeah.
14:38It's really good.
14:39The only thing is the orange juice is pretty grim.
14:40I'm really impressed that they've got the cake.
14:42The cake.
14:43Yeah.
14:44They've done their work.
14:45They've done their homework, their research.
14:46I liked being offered an egg as opposed to that being the breakfast.
14:50They are listening.
14:51They are.
14:52They are.
14:53Definitely.
14:54And we've got lovely service, so if that coffee pot went down, I'm sure somebody will
15:00notice.
15:01Yeah.
15:02That's the difference.
15:03Yeah.
15:04Later, Nicola and Roy have one final time to shine, taking the judges on a trip to a bee
15:11farm.
15:13Okay, guys, you want to get ready and we'll head to the bee farm?
15:16Yeah.
15:17Fantastic.
15:22This day was wonderful.
15:23We loved being here and we loved hosting the guests and it was just…
15:27It was home.
15:28It was homely.
15:29It was.
15:30If I can explain that, when you walk into a property and it automatically becomes your
15:34home straight away, it's just amazing.
15:36We just hope it's not our last breakfast in the house.
15:39We hope it's the first of many.
15:40Leaving the house is going to be, yeah, emotional and we just hope that we will be back.
15:45The recognizer says the nice ones.
15:46The nice judges.
15:47The nice judges.
15:48The nice judges.
15:49Okay.
15:50Perfect.
15:51I hope next time we're coming here.
15:52Well, we are coming here again.
15:53We're unpacking our bags.
15:54Yeah.
15:55And hopefully this is not the end.
15:56I loved it.
15:57I don't think we could do any better.
15:58It's not the end.
15:59It's a start.
16:00Yeah, there's three more couples to go.
16:01I know we love it.
16:02We've done our best.
16:03We did.
16:04I tell you, I'm proud of you because we've done better than best.
16:05Yeah.
16:06We've worked as a team.
16:07We've worked as a team.
16:08We did well.
16:09We did.
16:10Give us a hug.
16:11We did.
16:12Give us a hug.
16:13We've done that.
16:14We did.
16:15We did.
16:16We did.
16:17We did.
16:18We did.
16:19We did.
16:20We did.
16:21We did.
16:22We did.
16:23We did.
16:24We did.
16:25We did.
16:26We did.
16:27We did.
16:28We did.
16:29We did.
16:30We did.
16:31We did.
16:32We did.
16:34We were about to go.
16:35I was about to go.
16:38Right here.
16:39Let's go.
16:40Let's go.
16:41Yeah.
16:42Let's go.
16:44Homewards and upwards.
16:45I'll let you go first.
16:49Bye, we room. See you soon. You've been very good to us.
16:55Big sore.
16:57Let's go.
17:07As the door closes at the prize B&B for Nicola and Roy,
17:11it opens for the two new hosts.
17:14And it fades like home.
17:15Their 24 hours begins now.
17:19Right then, no pressure today. Nice and relaxed.
17:23I think you tackle the bedrooms.
17:25Yeah.
17:25Because I have a lot of chopping to do for dinner.
17:29Have you got a checklist this time?
17:32All on there.
17:34Good.
17:34Room's got all my checklist.
17:36Quick learning.
17:37With my pen.
17:38What I've got here is I've got some just bits for each room just to sort of put a mark on it.
17:49So here we've got some bags of lavender and probably put it on this bed.
17:52This week, the rooms have already been cleaned because the judges are focusing on the hosting skills,
17:58the vital ingredient for any B&Ber.
18:03It's the people that make a B&Ber.
18:06It's a people job.
18:07And it's you're pouring your heart and soul, your personality, into everything that you do.
18:12They came in, the most professional.
18:17They had a brand.
18:18They were gunning for it.
18:20The brand, brand, brand, brand, brand, brand show.
18:23But I know nothing about Brett and Nicole.
18:26Cooking in this house is just unreal.
18:29It's really, really lovely.
18:32Tonight, Nicole and Brett need to show they can create a relaxed, stress-free atmosphere for guests.
18:39Brett?
18:40Yeah?
18:40Hey, tomatoes?
18:43Uh, okay, hang on.
18:46No, but did you put them away?
18:48No.
18:50Nicole and Brett's strength from the heat week was that they've came so well prepared.
18:55And if anything didn't go according to plan for Nicole, it added a layer of stress.
19:01So, Brett's forgotten tomatoes.
19:04But I'm sure they were ticked off.
19:07And it was me that did the list.
19:08So, we didn't get 10 tomatoes then.
19:12You're going to have to go and get them.
19:14Okay.
19:15How soon do you need them?
19:18Well, judges are coming at half four, so.
19:20Yes, but how soon do you need them?
19:21Probably now.
19:23Do you need them right now?
19:24Yeah.
19:25All right.
19:26Go for it.
19:27Go for it.
19:27All right, so.
19:29The way I am then.
19:32Is this room's nearly set?
19:34Okay.
19:35Meanwhile, Nicola and Roy are heading to the local bee farm.
19:54Are you looking forward to today?
19:56Yes.
19:56Yes.
19:56Super excited.
19:58Let's go then.
19:59Yeah?
19:59Okay.
20:00It's down to each host to choose the trip that best represents their USP.
20:06But that's not all the judges want to see.
20:09The most important thing for me is that it's not up to us to be the entertainment.
20:15Are we all in?
20:17Hey!
20:17Hey!
20:18For their personalities to come out.
20:20And the fun aspect as well, I really think we'd like to see.
20:23Yeah, I mean, you can take anything and make it a great experience by injecting your personality.
20:30Sure.
20:32It's so beautiful out there.
20:34It's amazing.
20:35Proper forest.
20:36It's like Ireland, only warmer.
20:37It is so, so green.
20:40So how did you find this place?
20:41How did that come about?
20:43I've always been interested in honey.
20:45Always.
20:45I've never been a beekeeper.
20:47But I just adore the taste of it.
20:50It's a natural product.
20:51And hopefully we can do trips like this for our guests.
20:59All right, here we go.
21:04Today's outing is being led by Guillaume.
21:07Who has two and a half million bees.
21:15This is the heart of the hive.
21:17And these are the extensions with the honey.
21:19Honey making has a long history in this region.
21:23And Nicola and Roy are keen to use this product in their own B&B.
21:27So we always stay behind so we don't disturb them when they go out and in and out at the front.
21:39My gosh.
21:40Are they upset when they're taken out?
21:42He knows that these colonies of bees are very calm.
21:45It has to go really slow so they've got time to move.
21:47They see it coming down.
21:51That's blew my mind, all the work they do.
21:57Last night, Nicola and myself baked some little...
22:00Madelins.
22:01Madelins.
22:02I think it would be nice to try them with some honey.
22:05That's a great idea.
22:06Yeah.
22:06You can tell which ones are covered in Belgian chocolate, can't you?
22:10I'm going to go natural.
22:15It's amazing.
22:17Do you want to be hand-waved?
22:18Oh, thank you.
22:19Are you really sad about everything on the table?
22:21A little.
22:24Nicola and Roy have done all they can
22:27and won't see the judges until the end of the week
22:29when they'll present their business plan.
22:31We look forward to seeing you on Friday
22:33and in the meantime, use that time wisely.
22:36We will.
22:37We definitely will.
22:38Thank you very much.
22:38Thank you, guys.
22:40Bye.
22:40Bye-bye.
22:41And Joe.
22:43Bye.
22:45What a wonderful event.
22:47It's fun, isn't it?
22:48It really summed up their personalities, though.
22:51There was the fact that it was producing something natural.
22:55It was very relaxed.
22:56It was permaculture.
22:58It was integrated into the environment.
23:00There was the journey there.
23:02There was the chat at the end.
23:04And we had a good crack, didn't we, just being together.
23:07And then they had the water refreshments,
23:10you know, the cakes after.
23:12Exactly.
23:13It's them.
23:13It's them.
23:14It's them.
23:15They're just lovely.
23:18Obviously, the next time we see the judges,
23:20they're not going to be our guests.
23:21They're going to be our judges, and they will judge.
23:24I think they'll be fierce.
23:25Yeah.
23:26So it'll be like ravening the headlamps.
23:29They'll have to do their job.
23:30Yeah, absolutely.
23:31And we've got to be ready for that.
23:32Yeah.
23:35Meanwhile, as Nicola and Roy's 24-hours hosting is over,
23:40Brett and Nicole's is about to start.
23:43Success.
23:45That is mission success.
23:48Tim Peaches, Nicole.
23:50You actually have life.
23:51They told us not to stress, and your app was an extra stress.
23:56You do the food, I'll do the whoops.
23:58OK.
24:01Everyone always says it takes so long cooking a curry,
24:04but when you're used to cooking it at home, you're kind of quick.
24:07It's an easy one.
24:08We're just going to do something called a borrow basket,
24:12so, like, you know, if you forget a toothbrush,
24:14or obviously you can't borrow a toothbrush,
24:16and then put it back, that's yours to keep,
24:19but, you know, like, you know,
24:20there's some cotton buds there,
24:22and again, you can't put them back,
24:23but, you know, you can just help yourself to this
24:25and just take it.
24:25If you forget something, then it's there.
24:28It's now half-past three, and time is running out.
24:32It's nearly time the judges are coming.
24:34We need to start getting ready.
24:38They need to appear calm
24:40if the judges are to feel relaxed too.
24:43Do you think I put myself under too much pressure, though?
24:46Er, no.
24:48I just think sometimes you're a little bit...
24:50What?
24:50You just rush.
24:52You're like, don't stress, and then, oh, don't rush,
24:55or rush, or...
24:55I'm saying don't stress.
24:58And with time running out,
25:00the tensions are once again starting to show.
25:03Obviously, we're in the final week now.
25:05It's even more serious than it was last week.
25:08There's so much at stake.
25:10They've only got less than 24 hours to prove themselves.
25:15Not everyone can deal with guests.
25:17Not everyone can deal with the pressure.
25:28It's late afternoon at the prize B&B,
25:33where Brett and Nicole are welcoming the judges.
25:36How are you?
25:38I'm good.
25:39Good.
25:39You all right?
25:40Tonight, the judges are staying over
25:43so they can get the full guest experience.
25:46I think with a bed and breakfast,
25:47particularly, the personality,
25:49the authenticity of your hosts is vital.
25:54It's the key ingredient.
25:55You know, we've seen the branding,
25:58we've seen the cooking.
26:00I now want to see what they are like as hosts.
26:05Oh, this is lovely.
26:06Yeah, that's great.
26:06So you're staying in dreaming this evening.
26:09Yeah.
26:09Fantastic.
26:10Obviously, the bathroom's in here,
26:12and that's all got your toiletries and everything in.
26:14And if you need a demonstration on how to use a shower,
26:16I can show you how to turn it on,
26:18but not wash yourself.
26:23I'm really looking forward to sitting down to dinner with them
26:25because I want...
26:27I want communication.
26:29I want to see how much they're willing to give of themselves.
26:32I just want the heart now.
26:35So, Ava, you're going to be staying in our tucked away room
26:38for this evening.
26:41And, Nicola, you will be in residence our stargazing.
26:44Oh, thank you.
26:48Wow.
26:49When night is dressed in diamonds bright,
26:52the sky sings softly through the night.
26:55Beneath this quiet, gentle sky,
26:58let your dreams like stars drift by.
27:02I like that.
27:03It's a very gentle reading.
27:06I'll see you down there.
27:08OK, settle in, Will.
27:09OK, thank you.
27:13When they were in the heats,
27:15they were quite stressed out, I think.
27:18And Brett, in particular,
27:20looks much more placid and calm here than he did.
27:27Come in.
27:29Hello.
27:29Hi, guys.
27:30Come in.
27:31Ava, I'm just seeing if you've settled in, Will.
27:34Yes, I've seen all your little touches.
27:36I'm amazed with how quickly you do things.
27:39It's like you've got an army of little elves behind you helping,
27:42you know.
27:43There's a nice link between everything with the lavender theme,
27:45the lavender cushion, the lavender little pouch,
27:48the soap, the actual lavender and everything.
27:50Just a sense of calmness for our guests.
27:53I'll see you soon.
27:54See you.
27:55Thanks.
27:57Do you think the check-in went, Will, then?
27:58Yeah, I thought it was really good.
28:01It is going to be a chance for them to really get to know us, though.
28:04You know, our personalities are really going to have to shine.
28:08As well as lavender and poems,
28:10Nicole and Brett are hoping to win over the judges
28:12with a welcome gift of chai tea and biscuits.
28:17Hi, Ed.
28:18Oh, hello.
28:19Wow.
28:20So we've got a bit of chai tea here for you to try.
28:23It's only a bit because we don't want you to spoil your dinner.
28:27Oh, there we go.
28:29Very good.
28:30They're locally sourced French butter shortbread biscuits.
28:34And, of course, I thought I'll get a personalised residence art.
28:45As Nicole and Brett complete their check-in,
28:49Justin and Paul are working on their business plan,
28:52and today they're heading to a B&B where they're sure to be inspired.
28:56We'll just have to bombard them with questions, won't we?
29:02This is Chez Jalot,
29:04a five-bedroom B&B where style is top of the agenda.
29:12It's run by Brits Heidi and Anthony, who moved here in 2015.
29:17Wow, amazing.
29:24Look at the shutters.
29:25Hello.
29:25Really pretty.
29:27Hello.
29:28Hello.
29:28Hello.
29:29Hello.
29:30Nice to meet you.
29:32Welcome to Chez Jalot.
29:33I'm Justin.
29:34Hi, I'm Heidi.
29:36Anthony.
29:36Nice to meet you, Anthony.
29:37Justin.
29:37Oh, Anthony.
29:38Would you like to have me?
29:39Yes, please.
29:40Very lovely.
29:40OK, this is your room.
29:46This is a Jalot suite.
29:48Oh, lovely.
29:50So we have a king-sized bed.
29:51Amazing.
29:53And then we have the en suite through here.
29:56Oh, my gosh.
29:57It's amazing.
29:58It's a nice, large en suite for you.
30:00It's bigger than our first flat.
30:03We'll let you settle in.
30:04All right, thank you.
30:05See you soon.
30:05Thanks.
30:08Wow, so nice.
30:10Yeah.
30:10Isn't it?
30:11Finishing everything, isn't it?
30:12Yeah, brilliant.
30:13The really nice artwork.
30:14Beautiful furniture.
30:16Yeah.
30:16Comfy bed.
30:17Yeah.
30:18It'd be good to see the rest of the house, though,
30:20isn't it?
30:20Yeah, it'd be fab to see the rest of it.
30:22It's so good.
30:22They've got really nice, like, interior styling.
30:25Yeah.
30:25They've got really nice, yeah, really nice taste.
30:27Sympathetic to the house.
30:28Yeah.
30:36Meanwhile, Michelle and Steve are also out and about
30:39getting inspiration for their dream B&B.
30:42They've arrived at the Trimolet Blueberry Farm.
30:46Hello.
30:47Bonjour.
30:47Bonjour.
30:47We're all excited.
30:50Where their guide, Oriane, and her family harvest the fruit
30:53from over 30,000 trees.
30:58This time in the morning, normally, I'd be out in my van
31:01because I'm a builder, but I prefer to be walking in the field
31:05looking at blueberries.
31:06Yes, very nice.
31:06And I love the whole lifestyle of it all.
31:09Michelle and Steve are going to pick their own.
31:13Would you like to take?
31:14Oh, yes, please.
31:16Yeah.
31:17Oh.
31:18Oh.
31:19Oh.
31:20Beautiful.
31:21So maybe you can try to pick now.
31:24Are you ready?
31:25Always ready.
31:26Born ready.
31:27Can you eat as many as you like?
31:32We ask a picker to do at least four kilos in one hour.
31:36Are you having a laugh?
31:39We have people from 16 to 60.
31:42Right.
31:43And mostly the more quicker and who are doing the better job
31:48is the old one.
31:49Oh, really?
31:50Yeah.
31:50Yeah, because we're used to grafting.
31:52That's what it is.
31:53So when I left school and I was 16, I went to a sewing factory.
31:56The more you did, the more money you got.
31:58That's what you call grafting, that piecework.
32:01Do you have a laugh?
32:02Yeah, I do have.
32:03Yeah.
32:03I'm quicker than him.
32:04He's always been so.
32:05Can I tee your mouse?
32:06No.
32:12The farm also has its own shop.
32:15Wow.
32:16Where jam is a speciality.
32:19Be very careful with you.
32:23I don't know how you missed him out.
32:28I knew you were going to say that.
32:29I believe you missed him out.
32:31Oh, my word, that's lovely.
32:34That's really nice.
32:36It's fresh.
32:37The taste is amazing.
32:38Yes.
32:39And the price is really good.
32:41So, you know what?
32:42This is what we want to give our guest.
32:45We will absolutely be sourcing stuff from this farm
32:49when we win the prize home.
32:52Yeah.
32:52We will be back.
32:54Yes.
32:54This has been absolutely amazing.
32:57And hopefully, you'll have us back
32:58to come and buy some produce from you.
33:01Yeah.
33:01Back at the B&B, it's now make or break time
33:08for Nicole and Brett.
33:10Brett, are you not writing bon appetit?
33:13Yeah, I'll get the chalk.
33:15Remember, it's the small touches.
33:18He.
33:18Two peas, one pea.
33:22Hey, guys.
33:23Hey, yeah.
33:24Smells lovely in here.
33:25Good.
33:26Nice one.
33:28These are in for a treat.
33:30I'm sure.
33:31Are you ready for dinner?
33:32Yes.
33:32Absolutely.
33:33Absolutely.
33:34We'll take you through to the table.
33:36You sit down.
33:36All right, thank you.
33:37Oh, I'm intrigued and excited.
33:39Oh, these are in for a treat.
33:40Let's enjoy.
33:42Oh, wow.
33:44Ah.
33:46Is there a seating plan?
33:49We have a menu as well.
33:55In the heat week, we did hear Nicole
33:57shouting at Brett for not doing a certain thing
34:00fast enough, et cetera, et cetera.
34:01So the stress was showing.
34:05Do you look stressed?
34:07My goodness.
34:08Oh, I'm smiling.
34:08Sog pork curry, tender pork cooked slowly
34:13in spinach and tomato-based sauce.
34:16It's a bit spicy.
34:17Oh, it's not.
34:19There's some kick to it.
34:20I hope it's just not too hot.
34:22My message would be to be yourselves.
34:25Don't try to be something else.
34:28Coriander, just the tiniest bit on.
34:31I think they need to soften their approach,
34:33low beers.
34:34Here we go, guys.
34:35Dinner is served.
34:37If they don't manage to do that this week,
34:40there's no room for them to move forward
34:41in competition.
34:42At the prize B&B, it's time for Nicole and Brett
34:58to prove they have the hosting skills to stay in the running.
35:02These are some pukoras.
35:05Wow.
35:06Just be very careful.
35:08I am first aid trained, though, so...
35:10Looks amazing.
35:13It smells amazing.
35:14It does smell really good.
35:15And it's so nice to have such a nice little selection going on.
35:19I think I might have to turn this round, actually.
35:21Yeah, I was going to do the same thing.
35:23Because otherwise I'd spill it all over me.
35:25By eating with the hosts,
35:27the judges hope to really get to know each couple
35:30so they can decide who is best suited to this life.
35:35And I love your pukora.
35:36So, they were my starter,
35:38but I just thought they'll work well with the time.
35:40May as well have it all at the same time.
35:42Well, I guess I'm going to say cheers to everyone.
35:46Cheers.
35:46Thank you very much.
35:47Cheers.
35:48Thank you all.
35:49Cheers.
35:49Thank you so much.
35:51Hope you enjoy.
35:57This is absolutely delicious.
35:59It's gorgeous.
36:01So, what's your favourite dish to cook?
36:03Mine's actually yellow doll, believe it or not.
36:06This one?
36:06Yeah.
36:07It's one of the best dolls I've ever tasted.
36:10Genuinely.
36:11Brennan, you're not only saying that, are you?
36:13No.
36:13I really love doll.
36:15Oh, very good.
36:17I think my dad will be proud then, eh?
36:19Is it your dad who taught you how to cook then?
36:21Mum and dad, actually, yeah.
36:23It was Nicole's mum's Irish and her dad's Indian,
36:26so there was a dad that taught her mum
36:28and then her mum taught Nicole.
36:30And her mum's actually very, very good at cooking.
36:32And I have to ask the really underlying question,
36:35is if you don't win the composition,
36:37would you still want to pursue something like this?
36:41100%.
36:42100%.
36:43So, initially, I thought, rural, oh, God,
36:46it's going to be one house in the fields
36:48and no neighbours,
36:49but look what you have outside.
36:50Yeah.
36:51I've always looked at Nicole's mum and dad
36:52and they've worked together for years
36:54and I've always thought, oh, I couldn't do that.
36:55But coming here and being with Nicole
36:57and actually doing this,
36:59I actually thought, yeah, we could do it.
37:00I feel more connected to Brett,
37:03having that time with him, to be honest.
37:04And I guess he does calm me down
37:08when I'm in a little bit of a stress mode.
37:10So, is everyone finished?
37:11It was delicious.
37:12Yeah, it was delicious.
37:14Clean plate skin.
37:15Yeah, I could eat it again.
37:17Oh!
37:18I can give you a doggy bag.
37:20There's some more in there,
37:21so we'll clear the table and get this out going.
37:26Meanwhile, an hour away at Chez Jalot.
37:33Hello.
37:34The dogs really make it, don't they?
37:38Justin and Paul are about to have dinner with their hosts
37:41and want to know how this income stream
37:43could help their own B&B.
37:47So, tonight we have a creamy lemon and thyme chicken
37:55with Bombay carrot ribbons.
37:59Then we have a wild rice, which has roasted peppers,
38:03some mint, basil and parsley.
38:06Then we have balsamic and soy beans
38:10with tomatoes and coriander.
38:13Looks lovely.
38:14OK.
38:15Enjoy.
38:15Thank you so much.
38:16Bon appétit.
38:18Do you think that's what sets you apart,
38:20the fact that you guys are serving food?
38:23Because I feel like, in the UK,
38:25the bed and breakfast arena is not really evening meal.
38:29No, you're right.
38:30I think, obviously, a tablodote, which is what we are,
38:33it is known that the hosts will eat with the guests.
38:37It's a selling point because we're a little bit more remote,
38:39so it stops them having to worry about where to eat that evening.
38:44Yeah.
38:44Well, this was so delicious.
38:47Thank you so much for dinner.
38:49It was such a treat, wasn't it, Jess?
38:50Thank you so much.
38:52Our pleasure.
38:52Good night.
38:53Good night.
38:54Sleep well.
38:56We will.
38:56While Justin and Paul are ready to turn in,
39:04Nicole and Brett are still under the judge's scrutiny.
39:08OK, guys, this is galab jam.
39:14OK, so these are deep-fried milk dough balls.
39:21Thank you very much.
39:22Thank you very much.
39:23They are so good.
39:28They remind me of, well, I guess that baklava-y kind of element of honey-soaked, syrup-soaked stuff.
39:37It's fabulous.
39:38They're like doughnuts soaked in sugar and syrups.
39:41And the pistachio ice cream is fabulous.
39:45The first time I'd ever tasted one, me and Nicole was doing a dinner party for some friends,
39:51and she sent me to the Asian supermarket, and she said,
39:53you're going to get some galab jam.
39:54And I was like, you're talking gibberish.
39:56What even is that?
39:58I was running around the Asian supermarket.
40:00I'd never been in there before before going, what is galab jam?
40:03How do you even spell it?
40:04I didn't even know what I was looking for.
40:07These little sweet dough balls.
40:09They work really well.
40:10As the sun begins to cast long shadows on day two of finals week,
40:18all three sets of hosts are putting their all into winning.
40:22I keep saying that, Nicola, if it's as good a chance as anybody else, it is a competition.
40:27The problem is we don't know what the others are doing, and I need to stop thinking about them.
40:32I'm concentrating on us.
40:34Concentrating on us.
40:36How is the bed for one?
40:38I'll be fine here.
40:40You've got the couch.
40:43Let's get a blueberry.
40:44Yeah.
40:45And let's do a cheers.
40:47Yeah.
40:48Cheers.
40:48Cheers.
40:48Cheers.
40:48Are we supposed to eat each other's?
40:51Isn't that like what young'uns do?
40:53No.
40:53But now it's time to find out if Nicola and Brett have done enough.
41:02It really was delicious.
41:04Well done.
41:05Yeah.
41:05I'm grabbing that wine as about you.
41:08With the clean plates, it was just like, wow, we actually are quite good.
41:13And taking the compliments on board, and one day, who knows, if we'll get the keys,
41:17we could turn this place into a lovely restaurant.
41:20It was good to have them conversations with the judges, and really feel like they are,
41:26you know, they're really interested in you as people, and what you could bring to this
41:30business.
41:33There's nothing more they can do today, and their fate is in the hands of the judges.
41:38So, we had our second check-in of this finals week with Nicole and Brett.
41:47It was foggless.
41:49Yeah, it was.
41:51From start to finish, perfect for me.
41:53And different.
41:54Very different.
41:55It's something that the restaurant just across the road doesn't offer, so in terms of a
41:59business plan, she would be adding something to the local area.
42:02Absolutely.
42:03The dichotomy I've got is that spending time with Roy and Nicola last night and today
42:09was that I felt they revealed themselves instantly.
42:13We ask a lot of questions, sometimes, you know, in order to just provoke conversation.
42:19Running a B&B is a huge social skill, and it's probably underestimated a lot of the time,
42:27but it's terribly important.
42:29But I don't expect I have to work hard to draw out a host if I'm staying in a B&B.
42:37I expect them to reveal themselves and to be interested in me a bit.
42:43Last night was just easy.
42:46We felt like we were staying with relatives in a way.
42:48Absolutely.
42:48Joviality, bubbliness, warmth.
42:51Easier conversation.
42:52Not quite such exciting food.
42:54Tonight, very exciting food, slightly less exciting conversation.
42:58So, actually, almost the inverse of what you expect from each situation, in a way.
43:03We've given them lots of hints about opening up tonight.
43:07They know that they have 24 hours with us to show this, so breakfast will be very interesting.
43:14They have great warmth.
43:17They're sweet.
43:17They're very sweet, but that's not enough.
43:21The judges want Nicole and Brett to open up more, and tomorrow is their last opportunity.
43:29We're just nearly, nearly there, so tomorrow we need to nail it.
43:33Tomorrow I'm really looking forward to, because it's just going to be hosting, but in a different setting.
43:38You know, on our activity, you know, yeah, I'll 100% be in my element.
43:42I'm fingers crossed, because honestly, the keys belong in our hands.
43:48Really, we've only seen a tiny element of what they have to offer, because it's breakfast, and then really, in a way, the biggest thing, which is them hosting an excursion with us.
43:59A day out, with the judges.
44:02I'm really looking forward to a good night's sleep in this beautiful, beautiful home, which will soon be an act of bed and breakfast.
44:10Yeah.
44:12Bonsoir, chérie.
44:13Bonsoir.
44:13Bonsoir.
44:14Ademar.
44:19Next time...
44:20No, it's not happening.
44:22It's amazing.
44:23As the hosts hit the midway point in finals week...
44:26Honey, I'm home!
44:28Competition at the B&B is more intense than ever.
44:32There's no oats in this bread, are there?
44:34I actually couldn't tell you.
44:36Underwhelming.
44:37It's all that.
44:38Don't panic, just step aside.
44:41And the judges crank up the pressure.
44:43I felt that I was at a corporate event.
44:46There's just something missing.
44:47It's not over yet.
44:48I'll just see you next time.
44:58Bye.
