24:20been very hard honestly the luxury holiday may have been a dream another gold envelope but what's the
24:29damage for a trip like this wow total cost of your holiday is 13 400 pound absolutely joking that's
24:44like well over a year of my income that's kind of kind of normal for us to spend that amount
24:51of money
24:51in that amount of time time to ditch the high life and reveal their next destination your turn this is
24:59our holiday we get out you're heading north to a rustic campsite shared amenities wow are we sharing with
25:17just the two just the two of you no it's not on sweet it's a hands-on holiday
25:24the holiday makers are heading north to the province of santa cruz de tenerife staying at the
25:32eco-conscious agro camping in verna dorito it's a self-catering site with basic shared facilities
25:38that prioritizes nature and tranquility over luxury they'll be sleeping under canvas for this very hands-on
25:46holiday coming up what the actual fudge is this the lads get down and dirty yeah i thought i was
26:05going to be sick as they muck in on the budget side of the break still enjoying your lovely holiday

26:15two boisterous oaps on your head champion have been having a high class holiday our taste is with wine
26:23how much would you pay for that 1200 quid now it's their turn to show their luxury loving companions
26:30you're heading north to a rustic campsite how to holiday on the cheap andres is having a heart attack
26:38it's day one of the budget holiday a rustic campsite in the north of tenerife
26:44what the actual fudge is this a few mosquitoes watch the dog poo
26:50there's no ensuite here just shared facilities this is for the security guy in the entrance
26:56and no champagne on arrival welcome to our part of the holiday
27:04thank you very much for this work there's just one thing that makes michael's skin crawl more than
27:11camping look at the spiders oh good god oh there's spiders everywhere when i saw like all of the
27:18spiders in the web just above the tent it gave me a massive fright here we are
27:22looks at the wall home sweet home i'm a bit in shock i'll be honest i'm a little bit in
27:26shock
27:27the tent costs just 30 quid a night which would barely buy the lads a glass of vino oh no
27:38oh you cannot put your toilet paper in the toilet so no all that use toilet paper from everyone
27:45is this is not even a seat okay this is not the kind of place we would book in a
27:52million years
27:53this is not a holiday this is a labor camp it's 4am but i'm gonna have to go to the
27:59toilet because i
28:14of course day two on the campsite and early birds hillary and malcolm are right at home with the local
28:23wildlife beautiful come on oh wow got to sleep about four i think you're going to the toilet as
28:33well yeah i had to go to the toilet in the dark so on our first night on carry on
28:38camping
28:39we honestly thought they'd gone and booked into a five-star hotel we did because it was so quiet
28:44actually they're just having a kip all in campers
28:49these lads usually start the day with a high pressure power shower
28:58first communal shower experience i'm still a little bit traumatized
29:03oh god water's gone off can you turn your water off mine is oh how is the pressure it's on

29:11it's on it's gone cold the water was kind of hot then cold on and off it's gone off again

29:20not a good shower experience michael and andres wanted to see how the other half holiday but
29:27they've no idea what they've let themselves in for our holidays we're very hands-on we have to make our
29:33own beds we cook we wash up we have to do everything and we hope you enjoy it this is
29:38very extreme for us
29:42so what cheap and cheerful activities lie ahead oh wow animal sanctuary volunteering
29:51i know you like your animals mal go cotton hey okay scenic hike we walk a lot we love nature

30:02going off the beaten track oh with all respect to you but this is not what we would do once

30:10that activity i was like i think i'm just gonna give up at that point because it's not something for

30:16and they'll have to stick to the pensioners type budget so what's in the pot for food and activities

30:33that's around 80 quid per couple not as much as i spent on sunglasses in the airport before we left

30:53so for their first activity the animal lovers have brought the boys to tenerife animal sanctuary where
31:00you can have a close encounter with the wildlife if you're prepared to muck in you're going to come
31:04and volunteer for us and help out we guys the first task is picking up poo so grab yourself a

31:16a rake and you can start shoveling it into the wheelbarrow so guys do you want to lead the way

31:41when they were pushing that wheelbarrow up that hill to the manure pile
31:45we did laugh oh but just when they think it's job done oh it smells stronger here yeah still enjoying

32:23thanks to the boys efforts the group are rewarded with a stroll with the horses
32:28this is the lovely shanty favorite bit there was walking the horses on the road
32:34they were brilliant that oh shanty wait that was a rough experience to start with
32:39this beats shoveling dung don't it however post trek that was pretty special come on shandy shanty
32:47i wish it was a shandy but there's no time for a sundowner on this hands-on holiday
32:54the self-catering crew had to buy groceries to last their stay and with a strict 90 euro limit set

37:59it's the last day of the budget break for their final activity keen walkers hillary and malcolm
38:05are leading the group on a cost-free hike if i close my eyes i could be in a luxury

38:12because we don't have loads of money we go walking a lot but they don't hike anywhere it's taxis whatever
38:20the 1.2 kilometer walk through the anaga rural park will take them on an uphill route through a
38:26forest of fragrant laurel trees no phone signals no work no no busy busy very good no social media
38:35nothing nada nada nada yes the walk today really really topped off what has been a fantastic
38:43experience it's slightly inclined now yeah yeah on a slide oh i'd love a walking stick
38:51make me feel like a real explorer michael i think has certainly come around to our
38:59way of thinking is embrace the our type of holiday i would almost go as far as to say i'm

39:07enjoying this you know even if it's really hot outside it will never fit always always be damp and

39:20malcolm was exciting about telling us about the trees about flowers i'm feeling quite zen actually yeah exactly
39:28get this oh wow from the viewpoint there's a stunning vista of the snowtop volcano mount tady
39:36look at that spectacular view that's cost you absolutely nothing that's amazing at 3715 meters
39:46it's the highest point in the whole of spain really special guys thank you thank you
39:56it's not about the price it's about the moment yeah the company i will never forget today thank you
40:01good and it was worth the hike i think they totally understand now that people haven't got that sort of
40:09money can have actually just as much fun as they're having happy holidays the week's been eye-opening
40:17for both couples so what are the moments they'll never forget what an amazing trip we've had all
40:23together i know i can't believe we've come to the end i think for me the high point with a
40:29relaxing
40:29massage absolutely i won't nearly falling asleep the biggest challenge for me was jumping off the
40:36luxury yacht of course i think my high point of the holiday was that walk that we did and spending

40:44you guys with you guys to be honest from this trip i have learned that simplicity you know it could
40:50make you very happy would you do camping again absolutely not
40:58there's one more thing to learn how does the price of the budget break for all four of them
41:03compared to the 13 and a half grand luxury holiday
