00:01Firstly, let's quickly remember what we have covered in our previous video.
00:07We discussed about verbs.
00:10So what are verbs?
00:11Verbs tell us two things about the subject.
00:15First, the action performed by the subject, like run, walk, sleep.
00:21And second, the state of subject, like feels.
00:26There are two main types of verbs.
00:30First, main verb.
00:31These are the actual action verbs and don't require any other verbs to help them.
00:37Like lies, sleep, run.
00:41And second, helping verb.
00:43These verbs require support of main verbs.
00:46Examples may, might, could, is.
00:51Please check that video if you haven't already.
00:54I have given the links here and in the description.
00:58Now let's look into the qualities that verb has.
01:03Verb has two unique qualities that no other parts of speech has.
01:08I repeat, verb has two unique qualities that no other parts of speech has.
01:15The very first quality, the verb has is the change depending on the subject.
01:24And the second quality, the verb has is the change depending on the time of speech.
01:32Let's look into the first quality.
01:35Let's look into the first quality, verbs has.
01:37Verbs change depending on the subject.
01:40What do I mean by that?
01:42Let me give you an example to make it clear.
01:45I am tall.
01:48Here the subject is I, which is the first person.
01:53Tall is an adjective.
01:55And an is a verb.
01:58Now look at the second example, where the subject is second person.
02:03You are tall.
02:05Here, while referring to the second person, we used are as a verb.
02:12But tall remains the same.
02:14Now look at the third example, where the subject is third person.
02:19She is tall.
02:21Here, while referring to the third person, we used is as a verb.
02:27But here also, tall remains the same.
02:31So from this example, you can see, am becomes are and are becomes is by going from first person
02:42to second person to third person.
02:44So we can conclude that verbs change according to subject and no other parts of speech has this kind of
02:54behavior.
02:55Second very important quality that a verb has is it change depending on time of speech.
03:03Now what do I mean by that?
03:05It means whether we are talking about the past event, present event or future event.
03:12Let me give you an example to make this concept clear.
03:17Mary comes here regularly.
03:20Here, comes is the verb and we are talking about the present event.
03:25That means the process of her coming is still continuous.
03:30Now see the past event.
03:32Mary came here yesterday.
03:35Here, came is the verb and we are talking about the past event.
03:41That she came yesterday.
03:43Now let's look at the future event.
03:46Mary will come tomorrow.
03:48Here, will and come are the verb and we are talking of the future event.
03:54As you can see, for different time, the same verb changed.
04:00Comes in the present, became, came in the past and will come in the future.
04:07These are the different forms of verbs.
04:11We will discuss about them now.
04:14Verbs are mainly divided into three forms.
04:17Base form, past form and past participle form.
04:22Let's take an example of verb sing.
04:26The base form of sing is sing itself.
04:30The past form of sing is sand.
04:35And the past participle form of sing is sun.
04:40Apart from these three main forms, there are two other forms.
04:46S-E-S forms.
04:48It is used when the subject is corpuson and in singular form.
04:54Base form plus S-E-S forms this kind of verbs.
05:00Example, sing becomes sing here.
05:03Note the word S again.
05:06Ing form.
05:08It is used when the word is continuing while we are talking about it.
05:15Base form plus ing give this form.
05:19Example, sing becomes singing.
05:24Now pause the video and check out all five forms for some verbs in the table.
05:31Please resume the video only when you read all these forms.
05:36Now let's look into one sentence example to make this concept concrete.
05:42Please look into the table.
05:45Base form for the word cook is cook.
05:49And the example of it is I cook food regularly.
05:54Past form of cook is cooked.
05:59And the example is I cooked food yesterday.
06:04Past participle form of cook is cooked.
06:09And the example of it is I help cook the food.
06:33We will see more examples of them when we will learn about tenses.
06:40That's all in this video.
06:41Let's quickly revise what we have discussed about forms of verb.
06:46There are mainly three forms of verb.
06:49Base form, past form and past participle form.
06:54And two other forms of verb.
06:57S-E-S forms used for third person in singular form.
07:02And Ing form used when the word is still continuous while we are talking.
