00:00Last chance qualifier, Cole Thompson on the 66
00:03has been selected by Rocky Mountain ATV
00:06for the bonus $1,000.
00:07There were at least one or two riders that went down
00:11and got caught up, two riders.
00:13That's Tondal in the lead.
00:15Great start, whoa!
00:17Gets a little sideways in the whoops.
00:20Oh, this is going to get dicey, boys.
00:22Yeah, especially early, because everybody packs up
00:24when you get in the sand section,
00:25so you've got to make these passes pretty quick.
00:28Oh!
00:30A couple guys going down.
00:33I didn't know they were bringing the beach to Nashville.
00:35So Cornelius Tondal, the Norwegian rider on the ISRT,
00:39the International Supercross Racing Team Kawasaki,
00:43first Supercross race here in the States,
00:46and talking to Bubba Pauli from the team yesterday,
00:48he was telling us, look, this is kind of like a seek and see,
00:52see how it works out.
00:53He was meant to be at earlier rounds,
00:55got injured earlier in the season.
00:57We're going to see him at pro motocross races,
00:59but, hey, so far so good.
01:01He had a decent heat.
01:02He's been pushed here into the LCQ,
01:04but leads the way at the moment over Freddy Noren.
01:08That's right.
01:09Wanted to get out here, get some track time,
01:12get that experience,
01:12not only for the pro motocross championship,
01:14but more importantly,
01:15the SMX playoffs later on in the season.
01:18It's not too often that we've had the chance to say
01:20the Norwegian leads the Swede
01:22in Monster Energy AMA Supercross action.
01:25Earlier world events.
01:26That's right.
01:27JT, tell us more.
01:29I love the point you make there.
01:31I don't know that we've ever had that dynamic
01:34before at Monster Energy Supercross lead,
01:35but yes, for Tondal,
01:36he's still a stranger to this SMX series.
01:39He raced the motocross races last year
01:41with the help of Hyundai HRC,
01:43actually getting inside the top 10 a few times,
01:45but this Supercross thing is a completely different dynamic
01:48and you think if he can qualify here in the main event,
01:51get a few points,
01:52then have a great pro motocross season,
01:54he can find his way
01:55into the Supermotocross World Championship playoffs
01:57this September.
02:01All right.
02:01The two legends of the sport.
02:03What do you make of his riding style?
02:04How's he doing on Supercross?
02:06I mean, I thought he's riding pretty well.
02:08Like he's not overriding the motorcycle.
02:10He's getting a lot of pressure right there,
02:12but he's not over,
02:13like, again, not overriding,
02:15not pushing it too much
02:16and really riding his race.
02:19I'm impressed.
02:20No, I agree with you
02:21and I think this track,
02:22how slippery it is,
02:23as he makes the pass back
02:25and he gets passed right back,
02:27riding that way is going to help you.
02:29They got a pretty good distance
02:30between third place,
02:31so I wouldn't play around too much,
02:33but I agree with you.
02:35He looks good.
02:37Freddie Noren takes the lead back
02:39and extends his advantage narrowly,
02:41so Kevin Moran sits third.
02:44You're seeing Kevin right there,
02:45bottom screen,
02:46awesome drone shot.
02:47Seeing Kevin leap his way
02:49closer and closer to Tondale.
02:51And then in fourth
02:53is Zach Williams at the moment,
02:54ahead of Tristan Lane.
02:56Remember, Tristan had that awkward moment
02:57with Vince Friese.
02:59Race Control said
03:00no further action
03:01was to be taken on that.
03:04And we'll see if Tristan
03:05can get his way up
03:06into the top four
03:07and a transfer position.
03:09I've got to tell you,
03:10the number 78
03:11and Kevin Moran's
03:12in the third position
03:13on that orange KTM.
03:15You want to talk about
03:16like an entrepreneur.
03:18He's got his own race team.
03:20He has his friend,
03:22Grant Harland,
03:23who is his teammate,
03:24but it's pretty incredible
03:25what he's been able to do, JT.
03:28Will?
03:28Or Will, sorry.
03:29Yeah, just a quick question
03:31for you guys.
03:31I had a chance to chat
03:32to a bunch of these guys
03:33as they were lining up here
03:34for this LCQ,
03:36asking them about
03:36how they handle
03:37and the team handle
03:38specifically with less personnel,
03:41less data to handle,
03:42less equipment to handle.
03:44How they handle jumping
03:45from this very, very soft
03:47of St. Louis last weekend
03:48to then surprisingly,
03:50perhaps hard pack
03:51of this weekend.
03:52And all of them unanimously
03:53said to me,
03:54well, that's on us.
03:55We can't change anything anyway,
03:56so we have to adjust.
03:57Maybe this question
03:58should go to JT,
03:59but just the tough world
04:01that they live in
04:01when they just can't
04:02make the changes
04:03to the factory team's tag.
04:05Yeah, yeah,
04:06I mean,
04:06it's difficult for these guys,
04:07but at the same time,
04:08we just went to the moon yesterday,
04:10so we just got back in here
04:11with some life perspective,
04:14huge accomplishments out here.
04:16These guys know what they do.
04:18When they get out here racing,
04:19they'll figure it out,
04:19and so far, so good.
04:21Don't take your eyes
04:22off that 7-11.
04:23That's Tristan Lane.
04:24Tristan's been making
04:25some pretty savvy moves
04:26to work his way up
04:28into third place
04:29behind Kevin Morant.
04:31And now,
04:32Cornelius Tondell
04:33will have to keep an eye
04:34on Zach Williams
04:35because Zach's right there
04:36for that all-important
04:37fourth and final position.
04:39Oh!
04:40Tondell comes up hard!
04:42Oh, yeah.
04:42Way short.
04:43Yeah.
04:45He came up so short,
04:46it's like he just over-jumped
04:47the double part of it.
04:49Let's see if he can regroup.
04:54One thing about these LCQs,
04:56the battle continues.
04:57It always continues to come,
04:58even if they're in fifth.
04:59There's more people, JT.
05:01I just wanted to add
05:02a little bit about that privateer.
05:04Neither of you
05:05are really privateers.
05:06You're far too good for that,
05:06but I lived this life
05:07for a long time,
05:08and there's a simplicity in it
05:10because you simply
05:11don't have things to change to.
05:13You don't have the adjustment
05:14possibilities
05:15that the factory teams have.
05:16So you just deal
05:17with what you have,
05:18you worry about your riding,
05:19and you deal with the things
05:21that you can control,
05:22and then you just go out
05:23and race your motorcycle.
05:24So is it a limiting factor?
05:25Sure.
05:26But is it also
05:27a little bit of peace of mind
05:28because you don't have to worry
05:29about what you can't control?
05:30Sure.
05:31Absolutely.
05:32I mean,
05:32it's in everyday life as well.
05:34No matter what trade
05:36you might be in,
05:36simplicity is bliss
05:38at the time.
05:38And, hey,
05:39sometimes I like the old
05:41run what you brung motto
05:42like you talking, JT.
05:44So here's Freddy Noren
05:46on his way home,
05:47final lap,
05:48ahead of Kevin Morant's
05:49Tristan Lane,
05:50and Zach Williams
05:52on the verge
05:53of making his first ever
05:55450 main event
05:56in Monster Energy AMA Supercross.
05:59That's exciting.
06:00Those whoops,
06:01the face of those whoops
06:02look like absolute concrete,
06:04and as the sun has been baking,
06:06this track is way harder
06:08and drier than it was
06:09when we started
06:11these heat races earlier.
06:17Almost home.
06:20Freddy Noren,
06:21well done.
06:22That's his sixth career
06:24last chance qualifier win.
06:26And Zach Williams
06:27goes to his first 450 main.
06:30That is a super special moment
06:33here in Nashville.
06:35And well done,
06:36Kevin Morant's
06:36and Tristan Lane.
06:38This is a pinnacle of the sport.
06:39Hey,
06:40there's our special guest.
06:41There we go.
06:42The one and only
06:43Jet Lawrence.
06:43He's going to come up
06:44to the booth.
06:45He'll be with us
06:46for the 250 main.
06:47That's coming up shortly.
