00:20He was fast earlier today in time qualifying practice,
00:23but man, if I'm Drew Adams, I want to get through here, make all the laps.
00:26He's had some injuries, and it's great to see him up front early.
00:30How about that big leap from the 180 of Landon Gordon on the Monster Energy Star Yamaha?
00:35He runs third at the moment, taking over the reins there from Caden Dutney.
00:39Caden's going to focus on his Pro Motocross Championship workload,
00:43as this is a wonderful opportunity for Gordon.
00:45Yeah, a great opportunity for him.
00:47He gets to rock with Cole Davies during the week with all these guys,
00:50so he should be felt pretty comfortable, but he's got a couple guys.
00:53Looks like we've got a little issue in the Wolf.
00:54This is what happens when you get a bad start, Ricky.
00:57Yeah, that's Guillaude right over there, and the SMX track crew, if I had to guess,
01:01James probably put some water down in between opening ceremonies,
01:05getting this track race ready.
01:07Probably got a little wheel spin, bike rotates forward and over the bars he goes.
01:11Valentin Guillaude, the Swiss rider, picks himself back up as we continue.
01:15Everybody, here's a familiar theme, everybody chasing out after Cole Davies.
01:20Yeah, you can see how much slipperier those whoops are.
01:23Even those guys started losing traction, but it'll get better.
01:26Even though it'll dry out, it'll be more consistent for him.
01:28Right now, Jim mentioned he put a little bit of water down.
01:30We got to deal with it, but number 37, he's pulling away from these guys.
01:38I love watching Cole Davies.
01:40Just what I love about it, James, is his riding style.
01:43He's very neutral on the motorcycle as far as body positioning.
01:47Very similar, I believe, to a guy like Jet Lawrence.
01:51Yeah, no, I agree with you.
01:53When he's out front, he gets even more like that,
01:55and that's what makes him really difficult because he never looks like he's rushing.
01:58and it's hard to put somebody in a pressure zone when they look so comfortable like that.
02:03It has been a big journey and a massive commitment from the Davies family of New Zealand.
02:08Let's hear Cole talk about that.
02:11Yeah, he hasn't been in a couple of them, but he's traveled to all the other ones.
02:16But he flies here every weekend and flies back just for a day just to watch me race.
02:21So, yeah, he's got a lot going on at home that he needs to sort out and needs to be
02:25at home for.
02:26But, yeah, he hasn't seen that with the season, guys.
02:32Well, guys, watching Cole Davies there, I talked about the top of the show.
02:35Just a tremendous arc throughout his early career here.
02:38But look at the top three.
02:39All three of them are recent graduates of that SMX Next program.
02:43As much as Landon Gordon, this is his first race ever.
02:46So the development is clear to see for all, and Cole Davies is certainly leading the charge.
02:53And behind Cole is Drew Adams coming back from that thumb injury.
02:57He missed the last four races.
02:58So good to see the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider sitting in second place at the moment.
03:03There he is trying to bridge that gap to race leader Cole Davies.
03:07He's one and a half seconds behind at the moment.
03:09Tell us more, Will.
03:11I just spoke to him before we got going here, Lee, just trying to get an update on that thumb
03:15injury.
03:16He did have surgery on it.
03:17Had to take three weeks off the bike.
03:19Had a couple of weeks back on.
03:20Originally, they told him eight to ten weeks they were going to put some screws in there.
03:24He said just a couple of hours before surgery.
03:26The surgeon said to him, you know what, if I put a plate in there, I think we can kind
03:29of cut about four weeks off this recovery time.
03:32He said, yep, whatever you need to do.
03:33And that's him back now.
03:34He did say he wanted to race last weekend, but team owner Mitch Payton said, no, take it easy.
03:40That's true racer status right there.
03:42Put some plates in this.
03:44I could cut out about four weeks out here.
03:45He looks really good.
03:46We're watching these guys.
03:48It's like Cody Shock.
03:49Oh, oh, oh.
03:51Knocks Cody off the track.
03:54He goes through the mechanics area.
03:56Wow.
03:58That was wild between the 492 Landon Hartz and Cody Shock aboard the 22.
04:07Let's have another look at that.
04:10It looks like Cody on this rhythm section comes up a little short, slows down to get to the inside,
04:16just race an incident.
04:17Both these guys did a good job not making that even worse, but everybody's trying to fight to get to
04:21that inside, just race an incident.
04:23And Hartz had the momentum going, too, and off sequence there.
04:27What a ride, though, by Drew Adams.
04:30Coming back off the injury, great report there by Will.
04:35And he's, uh, he's holding Cole strong right here.

04:42Yeah, I like his rhythm down to the inside, so we'll see if he can get down to the inside

05:04Well, one thing I'm thinking right now, if you go back two years ago, okay, Cole Davies and Drew Adams
05:11was in the SMX Futures division.
05:13You think about what that has looked like the last two years for Cole Davies versus where Drew Adams right
05:19now, so a little bit of incentive there.
05:21I feel like Drew maybe have a chip on his shoulder and be like, listen, man, I can be where
05:25this guy is and should be where this guy is.
05:28And what Ricky was referring to, Supercross Futures, is now known as SMX Next.
05:32And the top three in this race are all graduates of that program.
05:37Here's another teenager, we spoke about him a little earlier, making his pro debut, is Landon Gordon, and doing a
05:44great job, James.
05:45No, he's doing a great job.
05:46I mean, I think these whoops are really difficult for all these guys as he moves a little bit of
05:51will spin, but nonetheless, Landon obviously has that talent.
05:55And this shows you how good this program has been for all these riders.
05:59They come in this ready to race, Ricky.
06:01Well, and I loved what he showed us at the beginning of this race.
06:04It's super easy to walk into that, fall into that trap, and maybe override with his teammate Cole Davies and
06:11Drew Adams.
06:12Great composure by this young rookie.
06:14There's the man who's won the last two 450 main events, Ken Rockson.
06:18The Suzuki Star warming up before his first heat of the night.
06:23450's not too far away.
06:25On track, Cole Davies in control and comfortable.
06:30That's kind of a regular theme with this guy, all bar the first event of the season from the 250
06:35East Division where he crashed,
06:37then staged a remarkable comeback, missed the podium.
06:40That's the only time, Ricky, this year he hasn't been on the podium.
06:42Well, you saw him go into that rhythm lane before the whoops.
06:45He shifts up two times in the air, probably to fourth gear, to be able to be in that perfect
06:50gear
06:51as he enters the whoops coming out of that right-handed corner.
06:59They're on their way home.
07:04Simonson and then Henry Miller was a big beneficiary.
07:06Checkered flag is out.
07:07It's another heat win to Cole Davies, and very comfortably so,
07:12as Cody Shock has worked his way back after he went through the mechanics area.
07:16He's in sixth, chasing out after Henry Miller.
07:19Devin Simonson grabbed fourth behind Adams and Gordon.
07:23Top nine go through, straight through to the main event.
07:27And at the moment, Kyle Peters holds onto that ninth and final spot.
07:33So, as far as Monster Energy star Yamaha racer Cole Davies is concerned,
07:38this is business as usual.
07:41Championship is the only thing on his mind,
07:45and he has a comfortable 11-point lead coming in to this Nashville round.
