00:00What's up? It's Johnny from the world-famous K-Rock here at Coachella with Hot Mulligan, Jonah, and Chris.
00:06Boys, what's good? Good to see you, man. How we doing?
00:08Right before we started the interview, too, I was checking out you guys' tattoos, because you guys full-on fucking
00:13rock and roll.
00:14I have no tattoos whatsoever, but you got some fresh ink on you, too.
00:17Yeah, I just got this one from my boy Pat, who plays in movements.
00:22I'm still working on it right now. Got to do some shading on the tiger and the butterflies there.
00:28That is so sick. That is so sick. My weenie ass can never get that at all. I can't do
00:32it.
00:32But welcome to Coachella. What's up? How do you guys feel so far?
00:36It's great. I mean, yeah, we just showed up here and headed straight over here.
00:39You know, it's a great time so far.
00:41No, it's going to be sick. How about you? Enjoying it?
00:43Yeah, same, same. Yesterday we got to soundcheck, so we got to see a little bit of the grounds.
00:50But, yeah, we kind of just showed up right before this and saw the little green room area and then
00:58came over here.
00:59So I think after this, we're going to do some exploring.
01:01Yeah, yeah, you got to go get that.
01:02Checking out more, but very excited.
01:03Most definitely, dude. Well, I mean, sorry to make you the first thing we got to come see.
01:07No worries.
01:07No worries.
01:08No, it's going to be sick. We're really excited to catch you guys' set.
01:11But your latest single, can we talk about that really quick?
01:15The names of the fucking songs are so insane.
01:19I don't think it's the right time to use emojis.
01:21Yeah, I don't think it's the right time for emojis.
01:23For emojis, right?
01:23Dude, okay. Tell me, who in the group uses the craziest amount of emojis and abuses that?
01:30You know, it might be me. I think I use the crying face emoji, both the smiling crying and the
01:35waterfall tears.
01:36That's you?
01:37Probably a little too often.
01:39What about you? You don't look like an emoji man, do you?
01:41Um, only when it's necessary for context. To be like, I'm joking.
01:47You look to me like a solid man. You're like, I'm never using emoji.
01:50No, no, I fuck with emojis.
01:52That's so sick.
01:53Um, also too, you guys are playing Shaky Knees later in September. So sick.
01:58Turnstile and The Strokes are playing there too, and they're playing here this weekend also.
02:02Tell me, do you guys get any kind of advice from bands you guys have looked up to so far?
02:07Honestly, no.
02:08No, I think, um, you know, some of the bands in our genre don't normally play these festivals,
02:13so there's not a lot of our peers or bands like the next step up from us to, to say
02:18much about it.
02:19Right.
02:20Yeah.
02:20Okay.
02:21What's like a playlist, like, what's like an artist on your guys' playlist that you guys wouldn't normally advertise?
02:27Like, you know, it's kind of like fans would not know that you listen to.
02:30I don't know.
02:30I feel like we all have pretty, like, varied musical interests.
02:35Like, me and Chris like pop music and electronic and hyper-pop.
02:39Um, I like a lot of rap music and indie rock.
02:44Um, so I don't know.
02:46Yeah, like festivals like this, I often find that I have more artists that I want to see.
02:51Um, because I'm not usually, we don't usually play shows with those artists.
02:55Right.
02:56And Charlie XCX headlined last year.
02:58Yes.
02:59So I feel like that one's a little out there compared to the music we make, but I also talk
03:03about her in probably every interview.
03:04Okay.
03:05I'm glad you brought that up, too, because Charlie's like one of those, like, girls, it's like a guilty pleasure,
03:09kind of, but it's kind of like, that's the artist of the moment.
03:11Dude, it's just fire.
03:12It's just straight up fire.
03:13Yeah.
03:14The last year she had to put up a graphic that said Turnstile Summer, and now Turnstile's on the fest,
03:18so.
03:19Dude.
03:19Great.
03:20We are up.
03:20We are so up.
03:21Last one, too, I really wanted to ask you.
03:23Your guys' name, Hot Mulligan.
03:26Homo, as some people say.
03:28Is that, do people come up to you and say that, or do you guys refer to yourselves as that?
03:31People do say that.
03:32You know, we kind of held off on calling ourselves that for a minute just to avoid any controversy with
03:39it, but the fans have started claiming it and repping it, so if that's what they want to do, by
03:44all means.
03:45Yeah.
03:45I thought of it for a second.
03:46I was like, somebody's got to come up to them at every show.
03:48I mean, yeah, you know, it would be like homo if you really wanted to get into it, but modern
03:53baseball was mobo.
03:55So, yeah.
03:56They call us homo.
03:57It is what it is.
03:58I love it so much.
03:59Well, I wish you guys a really happy Coachella.
04:01You guys are going to kill it.
