00:02Seatbelts, everyone!
00:03Please let this be a normal field trip.
00:06With a frizz?
00:07No way!
00:08Awww!
00:08Cruisin' on the main street, you're relaxed and feelin' good.
00:12Yeah!
00:12Next thing that you know you're seein'.
00:15Wa-ha-ha-hoo!
00:16Octopus in the neighborhood!
00:18Surfin' on a sound wave, swingin' through the stars.
00:22Yeah!
00:22Take a nap that's your intestine.
00:24Take your second right past Mars.
00:26I'm a magic screwdriver.
00:28Navigate a nostril.
00:30Climb on the magic school bus.
00:32Spank a plainton tube.
00:33Take that!
00:34On our magic school bus.
00:36Wrap the river of lava.
00:38On the magic school bus.
00:40Such a fine thing to do.
00:41Whoa!
00:43So strap your bones right to the sea.
00:45Come on in and don't be shy.
00:47Come on!
00:47Just to make your day complete.
00:49You might get baked into a pie.
00:51On the magic school bus.
00:53Step inside, it's a wild ride.
00:56Come on!
00:57Right on the magic school bus!
00:59Come on!
01:12Right on the magic school bus!
01:15As I am sure you all know.
01:18Ha ha ha!
01:19I am Ashley Walker Club Dupree.
01:22Great granddaughter of our town's fearless founder, Captain Krasnick P. Walker Esquire.
01:32Welcome to the 100th anniversary of Walkerville's proud existence.
01:36To celebrate this momentous occasion, a sculpture of Captain Walker is on its way.
01:47It was sculpted by our contest winner Arnold Pearlstein and his fellow students in Ms. Fizzle's class.
01:57But this is no ordinary sculpture, no, no, no indeed.
02:01In fact, nothing about my great grandfather was ordinary.
02:07In his will, he left specific instructions as to the manner in which this monument must be built.
02:13They read as follows, and I quote,
02:17A statue formed without human hand,
02:22Shaped and scraped like our vast changing land,
02:27Bumped and thumped by wedges and flows.
02:34The artist will chisel my face as it flows.
02:40Great, you knocked off Captain Walker's ear.
02:43I was trying to give him a mouth.
02:46Man, this is hard work.
02:48It sure would be a lot easier if we could use our hands to carve it.
03:00He's going back. Back. And he snags it.
03:05A terrific catch, folks.
03:07Aren't you guys finished yet?
03:09We're supposed to be down at the ceremony now.
03:12Our parents are all there, not to mention Mrs. Walker Club Dupree.
03:17Well, I'd like to see Mrs. Walker Club Dupree go any faster, Arnold.
03:21It's freezing up here.
03:23Give me a break, guys.
03:25My reputation as a rock expert is at stake.
03:27I guarantee the committee we could do it.
03:30But this is ridiculous, Arnold.
03:32Who ever heard of carving rock without using your hands?
03:35Don't worry. You're doing great.
03:38The statue looks just like Captain Walker.
03:42Well, sort of.
03:44No matter.
03:45This statue will last forever.
03:47A monument to our hard work and ingenuity.
04:01I don't mean to shatter your mood, Arnold.
04:04But nothing is forever.
04:06Miss Frizzle!
04:08Not even rock.
04:09No way! I know rock. And rock is permanent.
04:16And I know water, Arnold. And this is ice.
04:20Very ice indeed.
04:23So a little water's gotten in the crack and frozen.
04:26What's the big deal? Water can't break rock.
04:33Is it just me? Or is the statue moving?
04:36It is indeed, Ralphie. See?
04:40Yikes! The ice is splitting the rock.
04:43The statue's breaking away from the mountain.
04:47Precisely.
04:48Captain Walker!
04:53Captain Walker!
04:53He's going to get smashed to smithereens!
04:59Looks like Captain Walker's going to get to the ceremony before we do!
05:04Yes, well, while we're waiting for our... statue, let me tell you more about my great-grandfather.
05:14Ah, here we go. Rocks.
05:16My great-grandfather loved rocks.
05:20He was fascinated that they came in so many different shapes and sizes.
05:24Yes, rocks and poetry were his passion.
05:28As a matter of fact, his first home was built with field stone.
05:33The road to the house was paved with cobblestone.
05:36The cornerstone of the field stone was limestone.
05:45Oh no! Our statue!
05:48Well, I guess we won't be leaving this place as we found it.
05:51When Captain Walker made a break for it, he took a whole bunch of other rocks with him.
05:57Come on! We've gotta save the statue!
06:00Or what's left of it.
06:04My sediments, exactly!
06:06To the bus!
06:09Single file, please!
06:17I don't know, Miss Frizzle. I don't think this bus can make it down the mountain.
06:21You're right, Arnold. Perhaps we ought to be a little bolder.
06:26What?
06:29Seat belts, everyone!
06:34Oh no!
06:42There's Captain Walker! I see him!
06:44Does that mean we can stop?
06:47If we stop, we'll get smashed by the rocks coming down behind us!
06:51Just like Captain Walker did!
06:54A bang-up observation, Dorothy Anne!
07:00We'll make changes in the mountain when we stop!
07:06We'll make changes in the mountain when we stop!
07:11We'll make changes in the mountain when we stop!
07:13Ah! Perfect!
07:14A nice little rock pile in just the right place!
07:17Come on! We've gotta get Captain Walker!
07:25At least he's still got his hat!
07:27No wonder!
07:28No wonder what?
07:30Wonder was his horse, remember?
07:33And now, there's no wonder!
07:35We've lost half the statue!
07:38Who'd have thought a little frozen water could have started such a rock slide?
07:43Well, as my great uncle, Boulder Dash, used to say,
07:47Never take anything for granite!
07:50Well, we better get what's left of Captain Walker onto the bus
07:54while we can still tell who he is!
07:56Uh-oh! The water's washing the dirt out from under the statue!
08:00I can't believe it! The water's doing it again!
08:06Liz! Do something! Stop him!
08:14Oh no! There goes his other arm!
08:18Wow! The water's really strong!
08:20It's knocking the statue against the other rocks!
08:30This way, Liz!
08:35I have an idea!
08:38When I say three, grab it!
08:40One!
08:42Two!
08:43Three!
08:57Whoa!
08:58Thanks, Miss Frizzle!
08:59Just in the nick of time!
09:02Speaking of nicks, there goes Captain Walker!
09:05Bye-bye!
09:07Captain Walker!
09:10What's the water doing to him now?
09:13Whether it floweth, he goeth, Arnold!
09:16Does that mean we have to give up the chase?
09:18It's awfully rough out there!
09:21As my third cousin Rocky used to say,
09:24Yo! When the water gets rough, the tougher get in the water!
09:28Come on, bus!
09:29Do your stuff!
09:32Follow that statue!
09:34Oh no!
09:35Oh yes!
09:42While we await the arrival of Arnold and his class, whom I'm sure will be here any moment, let me
09:52tell you one of Captain Walker's favorite rock rock jokes.
09:56Rock rock!
09:58Who's there?
09:59Who's there?
10:00Like a?
10:00Like a who?
10:01Like a rolling stone!
10:05Like a rolling stone?
10:08Like a rolling stone?
10:08Hmm.
10:13I feel like I'm in a food processor!
10:17Rock processor is more like it!
10:26Anybody see Captain Walker?
10:29I just keep seeing my feet!
10:33Tumbling, bouncing, tossing, and turning!
10:36Oh, don't you just love it, Ralphie?
10:38We're rock!
10:39And we're rolling!
10:40And I'm getting sick!
10:44We've stopped!
10:46What a relief!
10:47You call hanging upside down a relief?
10:49What's happening?
10:54Oh, that's better!
10:56Better?
10:57What's better about it?
10:59We're supposed to be at the most important ceremony Walkerville has ever had with the statue we were supposed to
11:04have made, and where are we?
11:06Stuck at the bottom of a stream with no statue, getting pushed around by...
11:11By what?
11:12Water!
11:13That's what!
11:14Soft, runny water!
11:17Oh, but what better place to study erosion by water?
11:23Water erosion?
11:24According to my research, water erosion is what happens when rocks get worn away by water!
11:31That's what happened to Captain Walker!
11:34He's been eroded!
11:35You got that right, Arn!
11:37With less of Captain Walker at 12 o'clock!
11:41You sure that's him?
11:43His nose is almost gone!
11:44You know what they say, no nose is good nose!
11:48Harlows!
11:49I can't believe that water could do all that to solid rock!
11:54Just ask Captain Walker!
11:55If we don't get him soon, Captain Walker will be Captain Gravel!
12:01And we'll be Kid Gravel!
12:03Oh, what can we do?
12:05We're stuck!
12:07Nothing a little push can't fix!
12:09Prepare to disembark!
12:10But Miss Frizzle, if we go out there, we'll be swept away by the water!
12:15We'll be hammered!
12:16We'll be gouged!
12:17We'll be scratched!
12:19Exactly, Ralphie!
12:20I couldn't have said it better myself!
12:23And going out there is the only way to save Captain Walker!
12:27I'm glad you agree, Arnold!
12:34Cool suits!
12:35Yeah, I always wanted to be a rock star!
12:39Carlos!
12:40Miss Frizzle, are you sure this is the only way to get Captain Walker?
12:44No, but it's the only way to take chances, make mistakes, and get eroded!
12:51I think I'm the one that should have stayed home today!
12:54Here we go!
12:58Help!
13:02Ready, Liz!
13:04Leave no stone unturned!
13:10Whoa!
13:11It's like a hailstorm down here!
13:14The current's so strong, I can feel the gravel smashing against me!
13:18It's wearing away my rock suit!
13:21At my old school, we weren't allowed to get eroded!
13:26Look, look, look!
13:27There's Captain Walker!
13:32Okay!
13:33We've got the statue!
13:35We can go to the ceremony now!
13:38Not so fast, Arnold!
13:39Look out!
13:45After him!
13:48I've been in some tough scrape before, but this is ridiculous!
13:51Yeah!
13:53We're on the erode to ruin!
13:55Hey!
13:56Good one, D.A.
14:02Phew!
14:03It's good to have a rest!
14:05Ooh!
14:06You said it!
14:07Being eroded takes a lot out of you!
14:10Smooth thinking, Wanda!
14:13Real smooth!
14:15Hey, Yarn!
14:16Doesn't a rolling stone ever stop?
14:18Oof!
14:22Anybody see Captain Walker?
14:25No, but I do see that!
14:30Is it just me, or are we about to get pulverized?
14:34Miss Bristle!
14:40Help!
14:41Ooh, ride him cowboy!
14:44It's an e-rodeo!
14:46Miss Bristle!
14:48Help!
15:02Yikes!
15:09Wow!
15:10Look what happened to our rock suits!
15:12All the sand and gravel rubbed us smooth!
15:15It made our suits smaller!
15:17All because the water tumbled us and pushed us along the bottom of the stream!
15:21And the same thing's happening to Captain Walker!
15:25Soon there won't be anything left!
15:30We've gotta save him!
15:32Where is he?
15:33Buttons up!
15:43At last!
15:45The water's slowing down!
15:47And we're not being tossed around anymore!
15:50There aren't as many big rocks around either!
15:52I'm not surprised!
15:55No self-respecting rock has a chance!
15:57Once it's fallen down a mountain, plunged over a waterfall, and been tumbled and pushed along the bottom of a
16:03stream!
16:04Oh, and it's all because of water!
16:07Who would've believed it?
16:09Look!
16:10All the rocks that slid down the mountain have dammed up the stream!
16:17And it stopped Captain Walker!
16:21Hurry!
16:22There's still a chance!
16:24Yeah, if we wanna go bowling!
16:27Gee!
16:28Feel how smooth his head is!
16:30At least, I think it's his head!
16:33It's not surprising since he's been given the sandpaper treatment!
16:37Make that sand water treatment!
16:39Oh, it's what my old Aunt Bedrock used to call the power of water!
16:46Hold on, Captain!
16:49We've got you!
16:51What would Aunt Bedrock call this?
16:54A disaster!
16:56Hey, isn't that Captain Walker's horse?
16:59Looks like he reached the end of the line!
17:02Yep, a sad tale indeed!
17:04Oh, what are we going to tell the people at the ceremony?
17:07I don't know, but we'd better think of something fast!
17:11They're right below us!
17:16Oh dear, I'm sure they'll be here momentarily!
17:21In the meantime, here's another rock joke!
17:25What is a boulder's favorite music?
17:28Rock and roll!
17:32Oh, I get it!
17:34Rock!
17:35And roll!
17:38Oh no!
17:39People are leaving!
17:40Wait for us!
17:42We're coming!
17:44We've gotta get down there!
17:46Yeah, what are we gonna do?
17:47Break open the dam and let the water wash us down to the ceremony?
17:51As if!
17:53Why, Keisha, that's a smashing idea!
17:56It is?
17:57Like I sing on a cake!
18:01That's it!
18:03Remember how the ice made the statue break away from the mountain in the first place?
18:10An earth-shattering recollection, Arnold!
18:13So all we have to do is get water into a crack in the dam!
18:16Like this crack here!
18:19Okay, okay!
18:21But how do we turn it into ice?
18:22Why with the frizzle-freeze?
18:25Hit it, Liz!
18:38The water's freezing!
18:40And the rock's starting to split!
18:45Buckle up, class!
18:49We're rough!
18:52Wah-ha-ha-hoo!
18:54We're creating a new stream!
18:56It's a flood!
18:58It's a flood!
19:05It's a flood!
19:06Everyone, please!
19:08Come back!
19:09I'm sure there's an explanation!
19:11I know they'll be here any-
19:16Oh!
19:16Oh!
19:17Oh!
19:17Here's Miss Frizzle and her class now!
19:20Oh!
19:24Sorry!
19:29Not to worry!
19:30Not to worry!
19:30I'm just glad you made it!
19:33All we made was a mess!
19:35We brought the whole mountain down with us!
19:39Ugh!
19:39Never mind that!
19:40Let's get to the ceremony!
19:42Yeah!
19:42What are we waiting for?
19:44Come on!
19:45Let's go!
19:48Hold it!
19:49They're expecting an incredible sculpture of Captain Walker!
19:52But the water has eroded it all the way to...
19:56This!
19:57Oh!
19:57I don't think you'll disappoint them, Arnold!
20:00Come on!
20:00Come on up!
20:01Come on up, young man!
20:02Don't be shy!
20:04Well, um...
20:05A funny thing happened on the way down the mountain!
20:08We see that!
20:11Don't we?
20:14As we all know, my great-grandfather requested that his monument be...
20:19Oh, yes!
20:20Formed without human hand,
20:22Shaped and scraped like our vast changing land!
20:26We tried to do that!
20:28We really did!
20:29Honest!
20:31Bumped and thumped by wedges and blows,
20:34The artist will chisel my face as it flows!
20:39It got bumped and thumped all right!
20:41But I can explain!
20:43No need!
20:44It's magnificent!
20:46It is?
20:47A work of art on a grand scale!
20:50Captain Walker would be exceedingly proud!
20:59Well, what do you know?
21:00But we didn't do that!
21:03Exactly!
21:05Bumped and thumped by wedges and blows,
21:08The artist will chisel my face as it flows!
21:13That's it!
21:14As it flows!
21:16As what flows?
21:19Water!
21:20You mean the poem wasn't about not using our hands?
21:24No!
21:25It was about erosion by water!
21:28Arnold, I'm sure everyone would love to hear just how you did it!
21:34But we didn't do it!
21:36Water did!
21:37Water eroded the rocks and carved the mountain to look like Captain Walker!
21:42Not us!
21:43The hair was formed when ice cracked the rock connecting the statue to the mountain,
21:47And the statue fell!
21:49The stream which has carved a path down the mountain is the outline of the face!
21:54And the nose and eyes are really rock piles which were pushed there by the water in the stream!
22:00The only thing we did is the beard!
22:03That happened when we cracked open the dam causing the flood which brought us down here!
22:08But still, water did all the work!
22:12As he looks out at us today, Captain Walker is a symbol of the power of water!
22:17Which, I must admit, he's actually stronger than rock!
22:21But tomorrow, who knows which way the captain will be looking!
22:25For as Miss Frizzle might say,
22:27Erosion is everything it's cropped up to be!
22:42Baby I want a magic school bus!
22:43I want to spend our own the magic school bus!
22:45I want a magic school bus!
22:53I want to spend our own the magic school bus!
22:58I'm sorry, but it was not in my contract to be deluged
23:02I do not do disaster movies
23:05I know, I know, but we had to show how a flood can sculpt the landscape
23:10Well, next time, show it in someone else's scene
23:13Would you like some iced tea?
23:19Hello, Magic School Bus, producer speaking
23:21You know, I didn't believe that part about the frozen water expanding so much
23:25It could break something as hard as a rock apart
23:27So I tried it myself
23:29You did? What did you do?
23:31First, my mom and I found a glass jar with a screw-on lid
23:33Then we filled it completely full of water and screwed on the lid
23:37Then we wrapped it in a heavy plastic bag
23:40And put it in the freezer overnight
23:41And what happened?
23:43The next day, the jar was broken
23:44The water inside it expanded as it froze and broke the jar
23:48Just like the ice broke apart the rock
23:50Well, that's a pretty sharp experiment
23:52Thanks for passing it on
23:54My pleasure, bye
23:57Liz, you need to freeze the water
23:59It won't freeze in a cupboard
24:02I don't believe that water can really push big rocks and boulders around the way you showed
24:07Well, the water just has to move fast enough to roll and bounce the rocks
24:11Not lift them up
24:12Go find a fast-moving stream
24:14You'll be amazed at how big the rocks are that the floods pushed aside
24:18I'll do that, bye
24:20Liz, it'll take more than a few pieces of ice to freeze that water
24:26Hi
24:26I know floods and landslides happen quickly
24:29But most erosion takes a long, long time, doesn't it?
24:32You're right
24:33The bigger the erosion, the longer it takes
24:35For instance, it took water more than 15 million years to carve out the Grand Canyon
24:40About as long as it's going to take you to freeze that water
24:43Water made the Grand Canyon?
24:45You bet
24:46It made it Grand
24:52What was that?
24:54Good thing you put it in a plastic bag
24:56How'd you do that?
24:58I know, you didn't break the glass, water did
25:01But how did you freeze the water so fast?
25:08I know, you didn't break the water so fast
25:10Surfing on a sound wave
25:12Swinging through the stars
25:13Take a left at your intestine
25:16Take your second right past Mars
25:18I'm a magic school bus
25:19Affigate a nostril
25:21I'm a magic school bus
25:24Spank a plane, turn two
25:25I'm a magic school bus
25:28Wrap the river of lava
25:29I'm a magic school bus
25:32Such a fine thing to do
25:34So strap your bones right to the seat
25:36Come on in and don't be shy
25:38Just to make your day complete
25:41You might get baked into a pie

25:44Step inside, it's a wild ride
25:48Come on
25:49Right on the magic school bus

25:51Ugh
25:52You just wanna leave
