01:27hey whoa
01:29whoa
01:36good morning class miss frizzle wow a humanoidus eruptus
01:56oh man carlos according to my research it looks to me as if you need one more piece
02:03if you didn't spend so much time reading and researching you might actually do something and if
02:09you spent more time researching you would have known how to put this globe together gotcha i'm
02:16afraid you can't put that globe together until you have all the pieces so there is a piece missing
02:23i knew that of course there's a piece missing an island so new it hasn't even been discovered yet
02:31how can there be a new island everything's already here yeah the earth never changes
02:39does it actually the earth is changing all the time right under your very own feet
02:47it is
02:51then i can find a new island in one of my books what's its name how can it have a
02:57name if it hasn't
02:57been discovered yet yeah and besides d.a by the time you find a clue in all these books we
03:04could
03:04discover this mystery island and name it ourselves what a positively explosive proposition carlos let's
03:11shake a leg if you get my drift um you're not suggesting another field trip are you miss frizzle whoa
03:20to
03:20the bus this is your captain speaking on behalf of my flight crew i want to welcome you aboard magic
03:33school bus airways bus do your stuff here we go
03:53class at our present speed the new island should be arriving
03:56oh a lot sooner than i thought the island should be arriving
04:03in accordance with federal regulations let me remind you that this is a non-nail biting flight
04:12when we find the island what should we name it let's see i now declare this island which i alone
04:22have
04:22discovered to be carlos island forget it that's a silly name for an island what would you call it
04:31according to my research island that's too clunky wait a minute i've got a book of names in here
04:40you can't even think of a name without looking it up let's see we could call it paradise island
04:47no too predictable then there's always
04:53gilligan's island no that's already taken
05:06looks like our game's gonna get rained out miss frizzle oh don't head for the dugout yet ralphie
05:11those aren't rain clouds they are puffs of smoke and ash which means we are exactly where we need
05:19to be gee look at that stuff it smells too don't look at me
05:33windows are covered with ashes
05:38put your seats in an upright position class and prepare for landing we can't land now we can't
05:45see where we're going don't worry arnold we won't be landing for another few minutes
05:51whoops oh make that a few seconds
06:09not to worry class
06:11not to worry class
06:14hang ten boss
06:20like wow tubular
06:26we could call it empirical island hmm not bad
06:38all ashore that's going ashore
06:48i don't see any shore miss frizzle
06:53that's because we're a tad early tim
06:58as i always say get out there and explore
07:05how does she do that not easily i expect
07:10well in the famous words of miss frizzle the early bird gets the island
07:17watch it
07:18yes
07:18oh wait wait oh no my books
07:28i've got you come on you weasley wimps
07:34We have to go down there, Ms. Frizzle.
07:37I need my books to find that island.
07:40Wouldn't it be easier to go to a bookstore?
07:43Please, Ms. Frizzle.
07:44I'm nothing without my books.
07:47Me, books. Books, me.
07:50Class, prepare to dive.
07:56Coming, Carlos?
07:57Not me, Ms. Frizzle.
07:59I'd rather find that island than DA's books.
08:02Suit yourself, Carlos.
08:04Anchors away, mateys!
08:07Um, if you don't mind, Ms. Frizzle,
08:09I'd rather keep as much water between me and the bottom of the ocean as possible.
08:13A lofty idea, Arnold.
08:15Perhaps you could help Carlos person the life raft.
08:18If you insist.
08:20And while you two are personing, put these on.
08:27Yes, Liz?
08:29Good idea, Liz.
08:31As a certified teaching lizard, you're more than capable of handling the mission.
08:35Carry on.
08:41Huh?
08:42Do your stuff, boss.
08:48Whoa!
08:50Batten down the hatches!
08:56Don't be too long.
08:59Come on, Arnold.
09:00Let's find that island before DA comes back.
09:03Don't you think we should wait here?
09:05He who hesitates is lost.
09:09Lost.
09:10That's the word that bothers me.
09:12Come on, Arnold.
09:14Relax, will ya?
09:24I had no idea there were mountains under the ocean.
09:28If I had my books, I could tell you all about underwater mountains.
09:33Who needs books when you have the real thing?
09:40My bag!
09:42Miss Crystal, step on it!
09:45You got it, DA.
09:47Going down.
09:49Go on!
10:05Miss Crystal, step on it!
10:07Bottoms up, everybody
10:10Now, where'd that book bag get to?
10:16There it goes
10:20I'll get it
10:29One second thought
10:31Move aside, Ralphie
10:32I've got to get my bag
10:38Ah, here it is
10:42Huh?
10:45Oh no
10:48Holy jumping
10:50It's got my bag
10:57Octopus
11:00Close, but no ink, Ralphie
11:02It's a squid, not an octopus
11:04A squid has ten tentacles
11:06An octopus only has eight
11:08Then how come they don't call them octacles?
11:11Oh, good one, Ralphie
11:14I don't care how many tentacles it's got
11:17It's got my books
11:19Come back here
11:24What's happening?
11:28It's an earthquake
11:36It's an earthquake
11:37We're in trouble
11:41Got it
11:42Oh my
11:52Oh no, my source of knowledge is gone
12:00I tell you, something's going on down there
12:03Maybe, but it can't be an island
12:06Because an island isn't underwater
12:08Because an island isn't underwater
12:08Is it?
12:10Arnold!
12:13It wasn't me
12:16Liz?
12:18It's coming from those bubbles
12:20And there's the ace book bag
12:22Great
12:23See if there's a map back to school in it
12:25Get real, Arnold
12:26We have a chance to make history
12:30Maybe there's something in here
12:31That can tell us what's going on
12:36The bag fell this way
12:37I saw it
12:38I'm sure I did
12:40Cheer up, Dorothy Ann
12:41There's more than one way to discover an island
12:45I'm getting cold
12:48The deeper the water
12:49The colder it gets, Wanda
12:52Even the bus is cold
12:56If the water's so cold
12:58How come these funny-looking smokestacks are so hot?
13:04Good joke, Phoebe
13:10Something must be heating these things from underneath
13:14Is that revelation according to your research?
13:18How could it be according to my research?
13:21I don't have my research
13:23Bingo
13:24But if you keep asking questions
13:26You'll keep getting answers
13:28Huh?
13:29Hey, D.A.
13:31Maybe your book sank down there
13:33I sure hope not
13:35That looks like a canyon
13:37In the bottom of the ocean
13:39In the immortal words of our very own Ralphie
13:43You can't hit a home run
13:45Unless you swing the bat
13:47Back to the bus, team
13:53I wonder if Carlos found the island yet
13:56Oh, before us?
13:58Not on your pigtails, D.A.
14:02As the sea billowed around them
14:04It seemed as if the entire earth was going to explode
14:08Lars could feel the ocean floor
14:11Trembling beneath them
14:12He could almost smell the crust melting
14:15What are you reading?
14:17A cookbook?
14:18Listen to this
14:19It says right here
14:20The earth's surface is made up of layered crust-like plates of rock
14:25These plates normally move incredibly slowly
14:28But sometimes one plate jams under another one
14:32When the plate slips
14:34We can actually feel the earth move
14:38Carlos, you're starting to sound like Dorothy Ann
14:44I like to think of the world as a toasted bowling ball with a crust
14:48And we are right here on the edge of two pieces of crust like these
14:52And sometimes one piece gets shoved under the other
14:55Oops
14:56You created an earthquake
14:59Does that mean we're actually going down between those two pieces of crust?
15:04We have to
15:05That's where my books must be
15:08But there's no space between them
15:10How can we get through?
15:12Show them, bus
15:13It's action time!
15:16Wahoo!
15:23This is terrific!
15:26Speak for yourself, DA!
15:28Hang on, everybody!
15:30I'm being squished!
15:32It's getting hot in here
15:34These rocks around us are melting
15:37You bet they are, class!
15:41We're melting!
15:54We're melting!
15:55It's so hot!
15:56The earth's crust is melting!
15:58It's supposed to melt, Keisha
16:00I mean, my goodness
16:02The deeper you go into the earth
16:04The hotter it gets
16:07Anyone know what melted rock is called?
16:10Rock juice?
16:12Magma!
16:14It must be 2,000 degrees out there
16:17So there's melted rock deep under the ocean?
16:19What's it all mean?
16:21I think I know!
16:23Heat under the ocean floor
16:27Plunging plates of crust
16:31Melted rock under a mountain
16:35We're in an underwater volcano
16:38We're in an underwater volcano!
16:38A volcano?
16:40Underwater?
16:42Boingo, Dorothy Ann
16:44And you figured it out
16:45From your own observations
16:48Welcome to the magma chamber!
16:52The heart of a volcano
16:56How do we get out of here?
16:58Out of a volcano?
17:00How do you suppose?
17:04And then a giant fountain of steam
17:06Shot out of the water
17:08Followed by an explosion of
17:10Stop!
17:11I can't dig it anymore!
17:12You have turned into Dorothy Ann!
17:14But Arnold, it's all here in this book!
17:16Smelly gases?
17:18Fountains of steam?
17:20Explosions of lava?
17:21Arnold, don't you understand?
17:24According to my research
17:26We're floating on top of an undersea volcano
17:30Yikes!
17:32I knew I should have stayed home today
17:36The magma's rising!
17:38We're gonna get flown sky high!
17:42Wait a minute!
17:43Wait a minute!
17:44Wait a minute!
17:47Do we have that long?
17:48When all this molten rock
17:50Shoots up out of the volcano
17:52And hits the air
17:53It'll cool, right?
17:55Oh, absolutely!
17:57And when it cools
17:58It'll harden into rock, right?
18:01New rock!
18:03Eventually!
18:05So all that new rock
18:06Will build up on top
18:07Of this underwater volcano
18:09Until it sticks up out of the water
18:11Enough to make
18:13A brand new island!
18:17Yes!
18:20Oh no!
18:21We've stopped rising!
18:23Something must be plugging up the volcano!
18:26And the magma's squeezing us!
18:32Baby, all we have to do to get out
18:34Is give that rock up there a push!
18:36We don't have to do anything!
18:38Yes we do, Ralphie!
18:40It's time to take chances!
18:42Make mistakes!
18:43It might get melted!
18:47Into your anti-magma gear, everyone!
18:52According to this book
18:54A lot of stuff gets blown out of a volcano
18:56When it erupts
18:57Like volcanic ash
18:59Volcanic ash?
19:02Pumice and rocks!
19:04Pumice and rocks?
19:05And lava!
19:08Lava?
19:09Put them all together and you
19:10Get me out of here!
19:13No, Arnold
19:14You get
19:14Carlos Island!
19:20Hush!
19:20This is the chance of a lifetime!
19:23The end of a lifetime, you mean?
19:25Hush, Ralphie!
19:26Don't let the pressure get you!
19:29Huh?
19:30My helmet is cracking!
19:32Hurry!
19:33We can't budge it, Miss Frizzle!
19:36We need help!
19:38We need help!
19:43Come on, bus!
19:45Do your stuff!
19:47It's working!
19:49Play it again, bus!
19:52Yeah!
19:52Wah-ha-hoo!
19:58It's ready to blow!
20:01Wah-hoo!
20:12Carlos Island is about to be born.
20:15Too bad DA's gonna miss it.
20:18I'd give anything to miss it.
20:27Is it over yet?
20:29It's just beginning, Arnold.
20:31I can't believe it!
20:34The volcano is making a new rock.
20:37It's actually making a new island.
20:39DA's really missing something.
20:43Wheeeee-haw!
20:50Dora the Inn, where'd you come from?
20:54Huh?
20:55DA, you just missed the coolest eruption you ever saw!
20:58I didn't miss it! I was part of it!
21:01Where's everybody else?
21:05Wheeeee!
21:09Wow, what a ride!
21:12I like being erupted.
21:14But where's Miss Frizzle?
21:21Hi-ho, everyone!
21:23Wahoo!
21:29Nice landing, Miss Frizzle!
21:32To Carlos Island!
21:34Carlos Island?
21:36You mean DA Island!
21:39I discovered it, even without my books!
21:42But neither one of you landed there first!
21:44Look!
21:48Liz?
21:52Here's your book bag, DA.
21:54I never thought I'd say this.
21:56But I was really glad to have it!
21:59And I was really glad I didn't have it for a change!
22:03What an experience!
22:05I think we should write a book about it!
22:09Discovering Lizard Island by DA and Carlos.
22:13You mean by Carlos and DA?
22:15No, DA and Carlos!
22:18Carlos and DA!
22:19DA and Carlos!
22:21Carlos and DA!
22:23As I always say, unlike the Earth, some things never change!
22:30DA and Carlos!
22:30Carlos and DA!
22:31DA and Carlos!
22:33Carlos and DA!
22:42Is this the magic school bus?
22:43Is this the magic school bus?
22:45Magic school bus?
22:46Magic school bus?
22:47What do you mean?
22:47Magic school bus?
22:48Magic school bus?
22:49Magic school bus?
22:50Magic school bus?
22:52I want the magic school bus!
22:54I want the magic school bus!
22:54I want the magic school bus!
23:05So, Liz, how does it feel to have your very own island out here in the middle of nowhere?
23:11Oh, I don't believe this.
23:14I'm supposed to be on vacation.
23:16Hello, Magic School Bus, producer speaking.
23:20Hello, I just saw your show on volcanoes, and I've got to tell you, it was unbelievable.
23:26I know, I know.
23:29It takes a lot longer than a few minutes for a volcano to grow from an undersea mountain to an
23:35island.
23:36And it probably took thousands of years for that mountain to get as big as it was.
23:43Exactly. But hey, we've only got a half an hour to tell the story.
23:47I gotcha.
23:49And I totally bought the connection between the erupting volcano and the making of an island.
23:56Great. Then you knew that a volcano in the sea was just like a volcano on land.
24:02No, but I do now.
24:04There's no fire in a volcano, only heat.
24:07So the water can't put it out, right?
24:10You got it.
24:11But not all volcanoes form where a plate gets pushed down into the crust.
24:16They don't?
24:17Uh-uh. Some volcanoes form where plates pull apart.
24:22And others are just over hot spots in the crust.
24:25Okay. So maybe you didn't believe the part where the kids got so close to the volcano.
24:32Oh, come on. It's television.
24:36We all know real kids don't go inside volcanoes or hang around on rafts when they're erupting.
24:43No way.
24:44I guess not.
24:48So what is it you found so unbelievable?
24:51That Liz just so happened to have a flag on her when she landed on the new island.
24:57That is pretty unbelievable.
25:00But don't forget, Liz isn't your ordinary lizard.
25:10Surfing on a sound wave Swinging through the stars
25:14Take a lap at your intestine Take your second right past Mars
25:18I'm a magic school bus
25:19Affigate a nostril
25:21Climb on the magic school bus
25:24Spank a plankton too
25:25On our magic school bus
25:28Drop the river of lava
25:30On our magic school bus
25:32Such a fine thing to do
25:34So strap your bones right to the seat
25:37Come on in and don't be shy
25:39Just to make your day complete
25:41You might get baked into a pie
25:43On the magic school bus
25:44Step inside, it's a wild ride
25:48Right on the magic school bus
