00:00My name's Mike Rowe, and this is my job.
00:07I've made a mess in all 50 states. A big one.
00:10Now, I'm packing my bags for Australia, land of kangaroos...
00:14Look at me. I'm over here.
00:16...and didgeridoos.
00:19But I'll be doing more than cuddling koalas.
00:21Oh, her bum is soaking wet.
00:23I'll be getting dirty down under.
00:27I'm still trying to get my head around what I just saw.
00:32Coming up on Dirty Jobs Down Under,
00:35a shift into overdrive for an Australian adventure.
00:39I recommend it. So many different things go wrong.
00:43It's an exclusive visit...
00:44That is not the way to come.
00:45...to a remote Aboriginal community.
00:48What are you doing? You got the sand and the bread.
00:50...where survival requires sharp eyes,
00:54strong hands,
00:56Oh, firm feet.
00:58How does that not hurt your feet, Jimbo?
00:59Look at that. It's tough.
01:01Tough!
01:02And a keen, sensitive direction.
01:04You know what the way to get out?
01:06Yeah, it's over that way.
01:07Or it could be that way.
01:08It might be that way.
01:10Hang on, kids.
01:13Yeah, it's over that way.
01:16Yeah, it's over that way.
01:18Yeah, it's over that way.
01:36people there's only one thing you absolutely positively don't want to forget your ability
01:41to communicate fortunately i'm in the communications business okay i'll tell you what i know we are in
01:47uh and uh our bags are all together and uh we have two vehicles uh each capable of uh holding
01:58well we have enough room for everyone but no room for any of the bags if we had two of
02:03these in one
02:03land preserve we'd probably be fine right but then it's gonna be a pain in the ass to work out
02:08of
02:08yeah so we told our production office to reserve four vehicles but somewhere down the line there
02:14was a misunderstanding a little miscommunication and since there's a limited number of rental
02:19vehicles in this town our adventure may be over before it's begun epic epic epic failure planning
02:30oh there's no question it doesn't fit there's no question it works well as it turns out our
02:37excessive baggage will fit i love them i told you they wouldn't fit because i was told they wouldn't
02:44fit two at a time that's how we do it yes good for you this would mark the beginning of
02:49a trend that
02:49would envelop us over the next few days a growing cloud of confusion and miscommunication that would
02:55thwart our attempts to understand and to be understood stop oh i'm sorry too much too much too fast
03:06all right i'll see you guys back there she's riding with me the community we're visiting is a four
03:11hour drive from here so tonight we'll be staying at a hotel in nulambai and head into the bush tomorrow
03:19so tonight we're looking forward to relaxing at our luxury accommodations
03:26having a beer or two or three maybe four then hitting the sack where we'll all be snug as bugs
03:33in a rug
03:40before we head into the wilderness we stop here
03:45not for supplies but for a nice dose of art
03:49this is the yurkala art center where australian aboriginals display and sell their creations
03:57art plays a big part in aboriginal life
04:02the man who will guide us to the aboriginal artist is holding a spear over there his name is cade
04:08mcdonald
04:10cade is an art dealer committed to bringing indigenous australian artworks to all people
04:15and today you're going to be uh our guide essentially yep the people we're going to meet
04:20today live about four hours from here in in the homeland yeah and what's the homeland called it's
04:26called yopra yopra okay what am i looking at right here this is called a larkic or a hollow log
04:32or a
04:32memorial pole so traditionally it was used as a sort of um almost like a coffin these all started out
04:38as
04:38individual trees all the art in this collection is highly sought after and it's not cheap
04:45today we're going to meet the artist find one of these special trees and cut it down
04:51we're going to get in uh those vehicles are going to drive approximately five years
04:55or whatever yeah yeah five hours yeah yeah five hours then good depending on your driving but yeah
04:59let's let's do it okay founded in 1931 arnhemland is one of the largest aboriginal reserves in all of
05:06australia to make room for the crew we left half our gear back at the roach motel and set off
05:11to the
05:12aboriginal community whose name i can't pronounce or remember for the next four or five hours the roads
05:17look like this and feel like this and no there's no speed limit
05:35this does not look good one of our vehicles appears to have flipped over
05:42right maybe or maybe not too fast wow how long ago you think yesterday kate says accidents like
05:51this happen all the time out here somebody's head hit the freaking windshield that's sure
06:00figured probably happened yesterday there's nobody inside thankfully but whoever was riding shotgun
06:07is going to have a heck of a headache today so we're going to slow things down let's just
06:11slow things down man but the rough road is not the only danger
06:16we're just looking for buffalo what kind of buffalo uh water buffalo from uh like from southeast asia
06:23do you have a lot out here yeah there's lots and uh they're really big and they will charge the
06:29car
06:32uh any advice for those uh unforeseen moments when the water pump flow might charge the car uh my advice
06:38is
06:38you just drive away as big as you can really i mean they're they're pretty they're big they're pretty
06:58much like that after three more hours of shake rattle and roll
07:05we finally arrive at yopra a homeland community of about a hundred people
07:09located on what's commonly called blue mud bay
07:15access to yopra is very restricted to visit you must get the stamp of approval
07:21from this guy his name is jambawa or maybe jumble i'm not sure but he is the man in charge
07:28and i
07:29thought we already had his thumbs up apparently that's not quite true he still has some questions
07:35for us i guess there was a little miscommunication somewhere shocking what do you want to do with
07:40these films well there's a tv channel called the discovery channel and there's a tv show on the
07:48discovery channel about work it's called dirty jobs so you're the main person for the uh for the
07:54television or for the tv i'm the one on the tv most of the time but my crew is also
07:59in the show a
08:00lot those people how we will be on the film there yes they'll be dying some of them like in
08:06the
08:07fridge this is the part where jumbo tells me his culture has a taboo against cameras i just know it
08:13please don't tell me that jumbo well a lot of people tell us that by being on the show we're
08:19preserving their memory for all time yes that's waka by the way i think he's jumbo's brother-in-law and
08:28we
08:28like to be very honest in the way we shoot the show so we talked for about five more minutes
08:33but
08:34i think i passed the test but not the communications test okay now the trouble begins relax just go on
08:41and i'll drop your things there jumbo tells us the plan today is to drop our stuff at the guest
08:46quarters
08:47and then we'll all go out and chop down a tree for the art but then kade was informed by
08:53jumbo that the
08:54plan was changed the plan is actually to spear stingrays today and chop down the tree tomorrow
09:00what we're going to do tomorrow we're going to attempt to do today i'm not sure why but it
09:04involves spears and looking for stingrays stingray maybe that will be tomorrow right
09:10but tomorrow more more better than this is we've got to go a different way might be to go and
09:17get some
09:17wood okay so i guess today we're getting wood which i guess means we're cutting down the tree after all
09:23i think well we're dressed you know to get wet but we can we can put on our other clothes
09:27and go get
09:28wood this is basic uh communication so are we going to fish first yeah well you got in the room
09:37for me
09:38yeah for me and gumbo yeah we'll get you okay and just like that we're back to uh getting stingrays
09:45i'll say exit no i think we've brought tomorrow we're getting crabs and fish today crabs and fish
09:50that's the current agenda right until five minutes we're in a very fluid situation
09:59super fluid the village of yopra is a small place with homes much like the ones we'll be staying in
10:05there's only about a hundred people here but i just wish i could remember one name
10:10i just can't i i can't remember their names man did i say that right
10:15nice to meet you how does he say his name again which one
10:24jambawa jambawa that was easy shall we go for a ride go for a ride yeah yeah rarely in such
10:34a
10:34short period of time has there been so much confusion so many uh mixed messages so much ambiguity
10:42so much ambivalence so much hope coming up yeah we're on the trail of a water buffalo deadly wild
10:50water buffalo poisonous trees world-class driving leaf tree rock log indigenous species killer snake
10:57is there anything in this country that can't kill me
11:07if you're just joining us we're in arnhem land catching crabs all right so we're going to a place
11:12it starts with m yeah i'm on to the going away that's where we're going it's not about that mona
11:21you've never watched the discovery channel what television oh i don't think so i really don't
11:28want it anyway good for you you're not missing much as we arrived at the ocean our plans suddenly
11:37changed once more when jumbo spotted a wild water buffalo across the way that's a big buffalo right up
11:43there yeah there's the big guy right there even though jumbo might not watch tv he knows a good
11:50tv moment when he sees one so he took us to get a better angle of the beast seems to
11:55see something
12:00yeah we're on the trail of a water buffalo
12:06you see him i don't blame you you want to hop in stand up
12:09like this okay follow the track there you can see all the track there jumbo has found the tracks
12:15of another water buffalo so once again the crabs and fishes will have to wait here we go
12:23kade told me if we ran across a wild water buffalo to go the other way because they're fast and
12:28unpredictable i don't think jumbo and kade communicate either yeah he's calling us he sees it
12:36all right all right here we go even though jumbo and waka haven't actually told me in so many words
12:46i'm pretty sure they know what they're doing when it comes to tracking wild water buffalo pretty short
12:54oh heads up heads up something's been in here
13:11i don't know i'm not sure what we're doing here how can you hear this water buffalo just start
13:15snorting and stamping and ah the water buffalo it's probably jumbo had told me we were following
13:22tracks now i assumed he met the tracks of a water buffalo but obviously i don't understand anything
13:31fortunately waka knows the goal of this adventure milkwood milkwood okay so that's what you uh
13:37what we are after why a milkwood tree maybe jumbo will tell me maybe not mike yeah i'm here kate
13:46i
13:46thought we were looking for crabs this is on the way to the crabs we were looking for crabs then
13:50we got
13:50distracted by the water buffalo and now we're gonna cut down a tree yeah that is not the way to
13:59cut no no
14:01how you cut how you cut oh you want to cut yourself no how do you do it it kind
14:07of seemed like that's
14:08what i was doing you can cut it from the other side okay it's okay will this be used for
14:16any of the
14:16things that we saw back at the museum yeah it's made out of this stuff oh jumbo while we'll use
14:22this
14:22wood because he's picked a nice tree hey yeah remember jumbo is an artist this tree is a canvas
14:31here it goes it's going right towards you troy yeah this thing is this thing is is falling and
14:37if i let it go it's going to fall straight so guys here it goes so i'm gonna i'm gonna
14:42i'm gonna
14:42try and do this wait which way are you going i'm trying to do this that's where i'm standing this
14:47is
14:47all i could here it goes heads up everybody tree coming down
14:58oh you guys you know what oh you know everybody's alive and doug's bored
15:03that's just uh it's just no fun
15:07one two three
15:14you have to be careful eh yes once that milk goes into your eyes it will make you blind
15:21well this is an important tip waka blind really that's poison
15:26is there anything in this country that can't kill me see this is what i mean by milk okay
15:32even milk i mean it's the nicest thing in the world milk but it will kill you yeah yeah that's
15:38stuff this liquid here or whatever yeah yeah yeah i guess it's milk your eyes yeah make your blind
15:44i'm all right i got two eyes right yeah you got your eyes yeah there you go just be careful
15:48you know
15:48good so the key then for the sake of safety would be to keep your eyes shut while you swing
15:52the axe
15:55as you said hot dirty work hot dirty work you absolutely latched on to our uh agenda
16:03goodbye everyone you know the way to get out yeah it's over that way or it could be that way
16:09it might be that way waka i'll tell you in all the confusion i'm not sure what was the blindness
16:34you're a tough son again where are we going to put these k
16:37put it in the bull bar in the vulva boobah boobah the uh what do you call it
16:42just boobah the boobah the bumper yeah the bull bar boobah and hitting bulls boobah oh the
16:49bull bar yeah bull bar of course it's obvious all right so we take these down to your vehicle
16:58we strap them to the roof and then can we go get some crabs no no i think we found
17:03some turtle eggs
17:03oh okay well we're again the situation is very very fluid very fluid what are we going to do with
17:08the turtle eggs paint them or eat them eat them
17:13i can't wait to see what happens to us now jimba yeah i can't wait to see what you got
17:17in the store
17:17next look there there look there like turtle this way these are turtle tracks yeah
17:27so they go up here fly the eggs pivot down the beach don't want to dig too hard how deep
17:35are they
17:35oh i see them
17:43like a ping pong ball wow there's a lot of eggs in a lot of places eating turtle eggs is
17:49against the law
17:50here it's just part of living with the land so basically just walk down the beach you look for
17:56the tracks the tracks are obvious if you see them you eat the eggs not always you know no sometimes
18:03they've hatched and they've run away what's this point well it's kind of i'm on the turtle side
18:08that's your turtle i was going to say i mean let's be honest it's hard not to root for a
18:11thing and then
18:12yeah they're kind of cute until you're hungry in which case let's face it you take what you can
18:16i think i'll wash my hands off watch out for baru huh for what crocodile oh barrow crocodile
18:24crocodile live in the bay that's great it takes you got to think totally differently from what you're
18:30used to you know in the states and you hop in the ocean you hop in the bay i mean
18:34you know in the back
18:35of our head we're always thinking sharks but here's here's crocodiles the crocodile just comes straight
18:39out of here that's the difference between a crocodile and a shark and you take it from me a naturalist
18:45the sharks rarely come out of the water to get you but a crocodile will you can tell by the
18:51drums
18:51and scary music that crocodiles are nearby but right here on the beach there are other dangers
18:58nobody expects to see a grizzly bear in north australia
19:04but they're here and when we come back we'll show you one
19:09i'm so glad we're not doing that kind of show
19:13coming up i'll tell you what it is very exciting when things get brutally tough out of the bush
19:20the whole crew just learns to suck it up there you go that's my way to do it
19:37jumble is taking us to the other side of the bay where he has assured me we will finally catch
19:43crabs
19:45i'm just curious we're all bleeding from walking through the woods you don't have any cuts on you
19:49can i see your feet huh your feet my feet look yeah i want to look at your feet
19:54if you can put your foot right up in the lens here the bottom the bottoms of your feet must
19:58be amazing
20:02look at that is tough tough and i wish i had feet like that
20:10what happened in your arm i saw a scar on your arm too what hey you're looking at everything all
20:15right
20:16over here yeah what's that yeah i had a triple bypass oh really yeah you okay yeah i'm oh jeez
20:25a triple bypass heart operation wow didn't see that one coming that jumbo is full of surprises okay all right
20:37as we got out i could see that waka was already on the job
20:47waka called a mana shark who got it
20:52turtle eggs and shark it's the it's the discovery channel blue plate special
21:01shark liver is a delicacy but it doesn't make it onto the menu until we give it a quick inspection
21:06no blemishes means it's safe to eat is it okay
21:12what's that word mean kid good good yeah good
21:20no good magma good
21:23so this is magma what do you do now well we didn't get any crabs today but we had shark
21:29and turtle eggs so i
21:30figured we'd be kicking back until dinner was ready i was wrong we can go and buy ding and get
21:36some getting the boat now and line and line all right so we are now moving to the next phase
21:41of our
21:42unplanned series of ongoing fluid adventures it involves a boat uh a couple of lines i believe and i guess
21:47we'll go out a little bit i want this thing to drag it all lifted up all right how far
21:53out we're gonna
21:53go this isn't far how does that not hurt your feet jumbo the plan is simple the women children and
22:03childlike people will stay on the beach making a delicious dinner while the brave men take to sea on a
22:10perilous voyage to catch sharks or man-eating crocodiles or giant squid or something
22:17pedal hard pedal hard paddle hard
22:22our sea voyage was filled with many challenges intense action most importantly puckered lips
22:36that's whistling for the fish come i've never heard of whistling for fish before but i like it
22:51to keep from nodding off i began to think about the deadly saltwater crocodiles that infest the bays
22:56and inlets around here crocodiles eat people you know you can look it up so i began to wonder if
23:07one
23:07could jump right into our boat when suddenly what is this hey that looks like something we got lucky blue
23:21mouth coral fish
23:32he said hit him oh well that'll definitely stun him what you're doing right there will absolutely mellow him out
23:48oh
23:48oh
23:49oh
23:49oh
23:52oh
23:53oh
23:53oh
23:58Oh, that's bad.
24:00That's bad.
24:01Manmak.
24:01Manmak.
24:02Manmak.
24:04It's good.
24:05It's good.
24:10Eating turtle eggs on a beach with some new friends.
24:14At Yariña.
24:15At Yariña.
24:16Yeah.
24:16It's important to know where you are.
24:26Seems like the community is starting to warm up to us and our cameras.
24:30So, when in Rome.
24:36As Jambua pulled up with his nephew, Nicholas, we heard some music not currently on the U.S.
24:41Top 40.
24:42Okay, here they come.
24:44The music is from a CD that Nicholas composed and performed himself.
24:49Good morning.
24:50Is that your song?
24:51What's the one?
24:52I love it.
24:53It really sounds great.
24:55All right.
24:57We're about 40 minutes late.
24:59It's not too bad, actually.
25:00But we've got to make a quick pit stop.
25:02The cigarettes are not for me.
25:04They're for another member of our party.
25:06And the only place around here to buy them is this little blue store.
25:10We've got a jug of water.
25:12We've got nine cans of pop.
25:14And we've got three packs of smokes.
25:19Okay.
25:1922 bucks a piece, by the way.
25:21Grand total?
25:22Guess.
25:23Guess again.
25:25No, no, higher.
25:26No, it's a little higher than that.
25:28I'll just tell you.
25:30Amber gave them $100.
25:32And this was the change.
25:35Ninety-nine bucks.
25:37Nine cans of pop.
25:38Three packs of smokes.
25:40And a gallon of water.
25:46Finally, we're off to spear stingrays at a remote beach, which requires another two-hour adventure
25:53in off-road exploration.
25:56I'll tell you what, man.
25:57It's very exciting.
25:58If you've never driven through the jungle before trying to keep up with a four-wheeler, I recommend it.
26:06So many different things go wrong.
26:08There's no real clear path.
26:11And you never know what you're going to see.
26:14Lizards, water buffalo, trees jumping out from nowhere.
26:19You know, it's all, there's a lot of guesswork, really, and a lot of, a lot of shifting on the
26:25fly.
26:26A lot of last-minute crazy crap.
26:29Oh, ultimately, I know we're looking for the ocean, but we've taken so many twists and turns.
26:33I don't know, east from west at this point.
26:36Just run over the log, guys.
26:37This is going to hurt.
26:38Oh, .
26:41Oh.
26:42Sorry, fellas.
26:44Zero hope of getting out of this place without help.
26:50Oh, .
26:51Heads up.
26:53Oh, crimine at least.
26:55Oh, log.
26:58Bump, leaf, tree, leaf, tree, rock, log, indigenous species, killer snake.
27:05It's like that, only it never stops.
27:08It never stops.
27:10Oh, gosh.
27:12Log, branch, rock.
27:14Oh, big log.
27:15Jones, we're going over a log.
27:17I'd like to apologize for your equipment right now.
27:24You're coming to the open.
27:25We're coming to the open?
27:27No.
27:27Really?
27:29Oh, it feels like it.
27:30It could be.
27:31It could be.
27:31Just over this hill.
27:33It's, ah, tree.
27:34Oh, wait a minute.
27:35I think I see ocean.
27:35I think.
27:36I think.
27:37Oh, my God.
27:38We're here.
27:41Coming up.
27:42See that?
27:42There's a stingray there.
27:43See?
27:43For some people, spearfishing for stingray comes easy.
27:47For others, not so easy.
27:50What?
27:51Good if there was one right here.
27:54Uh-oh.
27:55Was that him?
28:03Interesting thing about Australia, the toilets here.
28:05I've been going to many toilets for the purposes of research,
28:09and I've been looking for a counterclockwise swirling of the water.
28:14This is the commode we've all been sharing.
28:17All of these.
28:18I have not seen a toilet in Australia that doesn't come with two options.
28:22Option A for pee-pee, and option B for poo-poo.
28:26So, this is a, uh, number one flush.
28:33It's a, there's a suction, almost like a, like an airplane technique, you know.
28:38You flush it, toil it up in the airplane, it's just.
28:42Number two.
28:45So, you can see it's the same basic thing, but it's just more of it, obviously.
28:52It's sort of interesting.
28:57Me and my brothers were bootleggers.
28:59Money just started pouring in.
29:02Success made them famous.
29:04Yeah, I don't know, Jack.
29:05I think it's a matter of perspective.
29:07But when the corrupt go too far...
29:09There's a new special deputy.
29:11There's no return, where's the money?
29:12Have you met my brother?
29:15Three brothers will take the law into their own hands.
29:18What do you intend to do now?
29:19Kill him.
29:22Where are you?
29:24Lawless, based on the incredible true story.
29:26Rated R.
29:30Some say having a dark side will lead to no good.
29:35I certainly hope so.
29:40Stay thirsty, my friends.
29:42New hit series on Food Network.
29:44Camera beam now.
29:45Restaurant guru Willie Deagle knows the secret to success.
29:48She's misogynacustomer.
29:49Is knowing all the secrets.
29:51That is a red flag.
29:52His hidden cameras let restaurant owners see the awful truth.
29:54These people are smacking you in the face, but you're accepting it.
29:58It's a free-for-all in here.
29:59That bartender's robbing them blind.
30:01Give me that kitchen now.
30:02Look at that.
30:03That's a health violation.
30:04This place is insane.
30:06These eyes don't miss a thing.
30:08Restaurant Steakout.
30:09Next Wednesday night at 10 on Food Network.
30:11I'll be watching.
30:12Look at those toys.
30:13Insurance must be expensive.
30:15Nah.
30:15I bet he's got an Allstate agent.
30:17They can save you up to 30% more by bundling your policies.
30:20Well, his dog's stupid.
30:23Hoodles are one of the world's smartest breeds.
30:25Are you in good hands?
30:31Sometimes it's hard for James to make up his mind.
30:37But Corolla was an easy choice.
30:39Over 80% of all Corollas sold in the last 20 years are still on the road today.
30:45It's a choice well made.
30:48Dang.
30:49Son?
30:50Another reason you can always count on Corolla from Toyota.
31:00I've been here doing this for 40 years.
31:04Nobody up here really gets ahead.
31:07Yukon Man, all new series, Friday at 10, only on Discovery.
31:21Are you getting back in and moving?
31:26Yeah, yeah, we're going back that way.
31:27Okay.
31:28We're moving on.
31:29Give us room.
31:31Are we driving?
31:33We're driving?
31:35We will drive.
31:36I will drive.
31:38So it seems Dave we're not here?
31:40I guess not anymore.
31:40Come on.
31:43How much farther do you think?
31:45Not far.
31:46Not far?
31:47From a production standpoint, it's impossible to even bring you up to speed with what's going on.
31:53It's like Waka is a fierce hunter.
31:56He just jumped out with a harpoon and just wanted to go fishing right here.
32:00Kibawa, meanwhile, he wants to take us someplace else.
32:03So we have to cruise out with cameras.
32:06The other half is pissed off.
32:07The other half, well, you can't have three halves.
32:10But you know what I mean.
32:11We're fractured.
32:12We're bifurcated.
32:13We're just doing our best to cover what's going on.
32:16Unbelievable.
32:17And ants are crawling up my leg.
32:20Where they came from, I don't know.
32:25All right, so it looks like Waka, with his spear, is going down to the ocean.
32:34Ryan, with his camera, is following him in the hopes of capturing some what we like to call content.
32:41Hey, Mark, you're following us, but you're finding out a way.
32:44I am right behind...
32:45Oh, wrong dude.
32:47I'm right behind Jumble Up.
32:52Hang on, kids.
32:58We're here?
33:05I think he said yeah.
33:07Hard to know.
33:11His lips said yes, but there was no no in his eyes.
33:17See?
33:20Yeah.
33:24It looks like a swell place, just a park.
33:28Sure.
33:29Now, it looks like...
33:30It looks like we're here.
33:32It'll be interesting to see if we really are.
33:34He's got a spear in his hand and he's leaving.
33:36No, he's got a spear in his hand and he's running.
33:52Yeah, communication is broken down a little bit between us.
33:57I think he's impatient, you know.
34:02This whole process, I don't blame him.
34:05It looks like a face, doesn't it?
34:06The nose.
34:07It looks like a face, doesn't it?
34:14It looks like a face, doesn't it?
34:15Meanwhile, Ryan watched Wakka toss his spear right into the open water.
34:21It was kind of a wild throw and Ryan figured Wakka was just playing around or warming up.
34:30Amazingly, on the other end of the spear, it was a big fish.
34:34That's a big mullet.
34:36I would have loved to have been there and experienced all this firsthand, but just like yesterday, whenever there was
34:42action, I was somewhere else.
34:51Is that the stingray call?
34:53Yeah, yeah.
34:59I wonder how your brother-in-law's doing.
35:03Well, it's catching a lot up there, mate.
35:06It's having good fun there.
35:08Yep.
35:09Wakka was having good fun.
35:12That's a stingray, by the way.
35:13It would be good if there was one right here, like a stingray right there on the rock.
35:17That would be super convenient.
35:19Some of that, some of that.
35:21Then we'd be done.
35:27Stingray number two for team Wakka.
35:32Nothing for team Mike.
35:33Hey.
35:34Come here.
35:35Yeah?
35:37I think he said, come here.
35:39See that?
35:39There's a sting right there.
35:41See?
35:42Yeah.
35:44Yeah.
35:45Okay.
35:46How close can we get?
35:47Not close.
35:48Then you just hold it like this, right?
35:50Uh-huh.
35:51Okay.
35:51I see him.
35:52Right through the head?
35:54Head, yeah.
35:54I got him.
35:55I got him.
35:56All right.
35:57Okay.
36:01Yo, got it.
36:03Don't grab it.
36:04Don't grab...
36:04Uh-oh.
36:05Was that him?
36:06Here, look.
36:07Here, look.
36:07Here.
36:08Get him.
36:13How the heck did he get out of that?
36:16I'm sure I had him.
36:19Like that?
36:27Close.
36:30There.
36:30There he is.
36:32Miss, miss, miss.
36:33There.
36:34Where the heck is he?
36:35Come on, tough boy.
36:37There.
36:38I see his tail.
36:39Straight, straight head, you know?
36:41Like...
36:41There.
36:42Miss.
36:43How could I be missing him?
36:44He's right in front of me.
36:48So, he's in here, you think?
36:49No.
36:49No.
36:50No.
36:50No.
36:50No.
36:51There.
36:52Here, he's looking.
36:52Oh.
36:56You got him?
36:57I got him.
36:58Nice.
36:59Glad somebody did.
37:01See, I got him once on the other side, I'm sure.
37:03Hmm.
37:04Look at him.
37:05He's...
37:05Not that impressed, but...
37:07All right, so that's how...
37:08I'd say that's how we do it.
37:09That's how he does it.
37:10What I do is a version of it, except I don't hit it.
37:12Here, I'm gonna draw it.
37:13Here's another one, look.
37:15Here's another one.
37:15Great.
37:16It's coming, see?
37:20One.
37:21Love it now.
37:22Ah.
37:26Wow.
37:27Fast.
37:29Oh.
37:30Ah.
37:32So, let's summarize.
37:34Waka, two stingrays and a big fish.
37:37Jumboa, one stingray.
37:39Me, zero.
37:40And something that feels like a broken toe.
37:42Crap.
37:45Take your boots off.
37:51How do you feel now?
37:52Like a hundred dollars.
37:58The sand's maybe a thousand degrees.
38:01Maybe more.
38:02Yeah.
38:03Why would I take my shoes off?
38:05Just because he told me to, that's the real question.
38:08If I haven't already made it abundantly clear, tough feet is a huge asset in the bush.
38:18Hey, buddy, I'll square up with you later.
38:25From what animal do the members of the Yopra Aboriginals believe they are descended?
38:30Is it A, crocodile, B, stingray, C, shark, or D, turtle?
38:37We'll tell you right after the break.
38:43The people of Yopra believe they are descended from A, crocodile.
38:49I can't understand them either.
38:56Even with my fancy water shoes, I messed up the toe of my right foot.
39:01That guy right there jacked up.
39:03I think I sprained it.
39:04I don't know how.
39:05Man, it aches.
39:07Oh, well.
39:08I don't think there's going to be a lot of sympathy from Jumbo there, so.
39:13Can you drive?
39:15Yeah.
39:18We rejoined Wakka and the rest of the group up the beach, where they were preparing dinner.
39:26What are we working on?
39:27I'm working on a spear.
39:29Uh-huh.
39:30I heard you made quite a throw.
39:32That's right.
39:32You got the fish, yeah?
39:34That's right.
39:35We're going to have to play that back a couple of times.
39:37All right, Wakka may have speared a big fish and landed a couple of stingrays.
39:43But I get to chop them up.
39:46No, no, no, no, no.
39:48I sure like it.
39:51Actually, no, I don't get to chop them up.
39:53Jumbo Up has bigger plans for me, involving stingray balls.
39:57That is to say, balls of stingray.
39:59So if it's skin, it's bad.
40:00If it's cartilage, it's bad.
40:02If it's tail, it's bad.
40:04But if it's anything soft and squishy that you might want to put in your mouth, it's good.
40:09That goes in here, to be lovingly massaged by Sam and me.
40:15The trick to delicious stingray balls is, after mixing the meat, you squeeze out all the water.
40:22Bringing the last of the moisture out of the stingray.
40:27Mix everything up a second time.
40:29Didn't we just do this?
40:30And then, add the secret ingredient.
40:32All good?
40:33Raw stingray liver.
40:35Rawr!
40:36Then, mix in the liver and mold into festive balls.
40:40So you eat these raw or you cook these?
40:42Huh?
40:42You gonna cook these at all?
40:44No, I eat it.
40:45Just eat?
40:45Just eat.
40:45You already cooked them, right?
40:47Yeah.
40:50It's very delicious.
40:51Oh.
40:55I still found a bone.
40:58I still found a bone.
40:59I still found a bone.
41:01Down there.
41:02Sit right here.
41:03Yeah, sit right there.
41:05I was gonna sit right here.
41:06Where are you gonna burn?
41:08I know, well you told me to sit there.
41:09Now it's a thousand degrees.
41:11It's hot sand, yeah.
41:11Yeah, it's hot sand.
41:13The second course of our dinner on the beach is bread.
41:17Trying to keep the sand out.
41:20Making gamba.
41:22Making gamba.
41:23Making gamba.
41:23That's what I'm doing.
41:24Gamba is their word for bread, I think.
41:26Don't put all this there.
41:28Yo.
41:30Their way of baking here is the same as anywhere else.
41:34This would be bad in the breeze.
41:36The only difference is, you put the dough directly onto the hot sand.
41:40And while you wait for the dough to rise, you eat raw shark liver.
41:43Extraordinary.
41:44And you try this liver.
41:46What is, you're giving me liver?
41:47Yeah.
41:48Did you have some?
41:49Yeah.
41:50How was it?
41:51Magma.
41:52Magma?
41:52Magma.
41:53That means good.
41:54I think.
41:55I didn't see you eat it there.
41:56You're not teasing me, are you?
41:57I'm not gonna be the only one to eat there.
42:01Michael.
42:02It's good.
42:03It's burning.
42:04Magma.
42:05Magma.
42:07That's really good.
42:09That's really good.
42:10Very creamy.
42:11And delicious.
42:13Back to baking.
42:14All right.
42:15What do I do?
42:17Cover it with sand?
42:18Yeah.
42:18What are you doing?
42:20You got the sand in the bread.
42:21Yeah.
42:22Sand in the bread.
42:24All right.
42:25I just, it just feels wrong.
42:28Come on.
42:29Push the sand in it?
42:30Yeah.
42:31Really?
42:34Oh.
42:34Oh.
42:35All right.
42:40What?
42:42It's all hot.
42:48I feel as though I've received a huge quantity of mixed messages in rapid succession.
42:53The bread is being literally baked in the sand.
42:58George Bernard Shaw said the single biggest problem with communication is the illusion
43:03that it's taken place.
43:04Boy.
43:05Very hot.
43:05Very hot.
43:06Well, I'm under no illusion.
43:09Nothing on this trip has gone the way I was told it would.
43:12Then we'll take it around.
43:13And I'm still in the dark as to what might happen next.
43:19But, I'm not too worried.
43:21I am on a beach after all, with shark liver, turtle eggs, stingray, new friends, and all
43:27the bread I can eat.
43:29Who cares if there's some sand in it?
43:31Really good.
43:32And if I haven't communicated all that properly, well, there's always next time.
43:37If I don't see a gun, I wanted to thank you.
43:39What?
43:40For having us out.
43:42For bringing us here.
43:43No worries.
43:44No, we really, really appreciate it.
43:45This has been, uh, this has been amazing.
43:47And if I'm ever in this neighborhood again, we'll come looking for you and say hello.
43:51Save some for the rest of us, aren't we?
43:53Yeah.
43:55So, while I was trying to communicate adequate goodbyes and thank yous to our hosts, Nicholas
44:01was out hunting, and look what he caught.
44:03I guess he's perfected the time-honored stingray call of...
44:08Well, thank you.
44:09I'm just gonna stand here and look at this and imagine that I caught it for a while, okay?
