00:09Hi everyone I'm Ray from the Canberra Times and I'm Angie from the Canberra Times and we're out
00:13here today trying to understand users of public transportation and how they feel about the network
00:19that exists here in Canberra. We heard a diverse range of opinions and yeah we're just here to
00:26share some of those opinions. While we have a really broad consensus today it seems that there
00:31are quite a few people who are switching from cars to public transport to combat the increase
00:35in fuel prices. There was however a lot of concern about how the increase in fuel prices will impact
00:39the agricultural sector. And yeah and some of the other individuals who I spoke to mentioned that
00:45it took them about seven and a half years just to build this particular rail to connect the south
00:51to the city so they're not very optimistic about the networking in Canberra while others from other
00:58states shared that the network here that we have in place is pretty spectacular so a mixed range of
01:04emotions amongst everyone here. I sort of live down that way in Downer so the buses and the train are
01:13my primary link to the city. While I do have my negative thoughts on it, a huge convenience to
01:23everybody here. I'm a big supporter of public transport definitely. It's definitely a fantastic
01:30alternative to cars. I am strongly in support of it and absolutely strongly in support of building the
01:39infrastructure even more so that we can sort of eventually hope to rival Melbourne.
01:46Well coming from Hobart as a Hobart resident, well ex-Hobart resident, it's a huge step up from
01:53there in particular. I live along the light rail line and I find it amazing that I could just hop
01:59on
01:59this tram and get to work really easily. Back in Hobart you know half the buses don't show up and
02:04if you don't own a car there's no real options available down there like um especially if you're
02:11not on an express bus route there. I know in Canberra it's um a bit difficult you're a bit further
02:16around the suburbs but as someone who lives yeah along the light rail line it's absolutely fantastic and
02:21I love it. Um well as someone who catches the tram at peak hour um not so much the tram's
02:27always
02:27pretty full but I have noticed more people on the buses when I do catch them so yeah.
02:32Why do you think that might be? Well obviously fuel prices are going up but
