00:02For many, the Canberra to Sydney train line can be summed up as scenic, but slow.
00:08I love the train, it's terrific.
00:09It's sort of third or fourth on my list of preferred methods of travel because of the time it takes.
00:17Tomorrow's federal budget will look to speed it up.
00:20It'll include $50 million funding for the Canberra to Sydney line.
00:23The New South Wales and ACT governments will each contribute $25 million.
00:27Over the next five years that will fund improvements to tracks and stations as well as new boom gates and
00:33lights.
00:34We know that there are some quick fixes that we can make to make the service much more efficient and
00:39to make it a little bit quicker.
00:41It's about four and a quarter hours, it can be as long as four and a half.
00:45We are hoping to get that down to under four hours.
00:48That's still slower than taking the bus or driving to Sydney, but the announcement will also fund planning works to
00:54speed up the line.
00:55That investment will need to occur in a number of different sections of the track.
01:01But I think the important thing is that the new trains will have the capacity to travel faster.
01:06There are three Canberra to Sydney trains each day and they are popular.
01:10It's always full, I must say.
01:12The New South Wales government says it wants to increase the number of services, although that will likely depend on
01:17when its new trains come online.
01:192028 is the first scheduled time on the tracks.
01:22On track for improvements, but not exactly full steam ahead.
