00:12Iran and the Lebanese resistance launched a strike against Haifa located northeast of the
00:16occupied territories. Ukraine submitted a proposal to Russia for U.S. mediators to
00:26establish a ceasefire in the attacks on the energy infrastructure. And Ecuador is
00:33moving forward with a reform that could transport the authority to appoint the
00:36state's main oversight officials to Parliament.
00:44Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Del Sur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:49We begin the news.
01:09On Tuesday, Iran confirmed a new wave of attacks on its infrastructure including two bridges,
01:14a highway and railroads, hours before the expiration of a deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump.
01:19Several airstrikes were reported on the Iranian island of Khark, home of the country's main oil
01:24terminals which account for an estimated 9% of its crude oil exports. Iran authorities have also
01:30reported that the attacks hit a bridge near the city of Qom. Meanwhile, the deputy governor of
01:35Isfahan province, Akbar Salehi, reported that an Israeli-U.S. attack struck the Yaha Abad railway
01:42bridge in the city of Kashan, where two people were killed and three resulted injured. In this regard,
01:47it is worth noting that all trains to and from the city of Mashhad were cancelled after Israel issued
01:53a warning against using this means of transportation.
02:01Amid the violent war escalation in the Middle East by the U.S.-Israeli coalition, which continues to add
02:07to the list of war crimes and crimes against humanity, the Iranian-Jewish parliament denounced
02:12the destruction of a synagogue, leaving hundreds of schools of the Torah buried under the rubble.
02:21The Iranian regime showed no mercy toward this community during the Jewish holidays and attacked
02:28one of our ancient and sacred synagogues. Regrettably, during this attack, the synagogue building
02:34was completely destroyed and the Torah scroll remained buried under the rubble.
02:40And Iran's mission to the United Nations' call on Monday for urgent action by the international
02:45community to stop what it described as criminal acts committed by the United States and Israel.
02:50In a later address to UN Secretary General AntĂłnio Guterres, Iranian diplomat Amir Said Erbani
02:55urged the implementation of specific measures to ensure accountability on the part of both countries.
03:01The call comes in the wake of recent statements by President Donald Trump, who threatened to attack
03:05Iranian civilian infrastructure, including bridges and power plants. If Iran does not agree to reopen
03:10the Strait of Hormuz, according to Erbani, these warnings constitute a direct incitement to terrorism
03:16and clear evidence of intentions to commit war crimes under international law.
03:20Finally, Iran accused Washington of sponsoring terrorism by admitting to sending weapons to protesters
03:25within its territory.
03:33And on Tuesday morning, Iranian forces launched ballistic missiles and drones at Tel Aviv, Haifa
03:37and U.S. military bases in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Hours earlier and in the midst of a brutal
03:43attack by the so-called Epstein Coalition against Iran and other densely populated areas of the Persian
03:48nation, its authorities called on Gulf governments to prevent Washington and Tel Aviv from using their
03:53territories to attack Iran. Once again, the warnings were ignored, despite the grave consequences of
03:59the attack by the United States and Israel, which even hit a synagogue of the Jewish community in Tehran.
04:04In this peril, U.S. gas, oil and military facilities were struck in Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
04:18In Kuwait, at least 15 U.S. citizens were injured following an Iranian drone attack on a military base.
04:23According to U.S. media reports, the incident occurred last night at Ali al-Salam Air Base,
04:28a facility used as a logistical hub by U.S. forces in the region. Hours earlier, Iranian authorities had
04:34announced a new series of actions in response to military operations attributed to the so-called
04:39Epstein Coalition in the area amid the current escalation of tensions. According to available
04:44information, most of the injured do not have serious injuries. So far, no additional details
04:49have been released regarding damage to the base or possible new operations.
04:58In a coordinated act of legitimate retaliation, Iran and the Lebanese resistance launched a strategic
05:03strike early Tuesday against Haifa, located in the northeast of the occupied territories.
05:07According to Brigadier General Said Majid Moussabi, top commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force, Iranian
05:14and Hezbollah forces, intensively targeted refineries, power grids, ports and railways within the Haifa
05:20Bay. Furthermore, the Sanis regime failed to intercept a single projectile, thereby exposing the fragility
05:26of the sophisticated air shield comprise of the Iron Dome, Iron Beam, David Sling and Arrow systems.
05:33Ultimately, these facts emerged despite the severe media censorship imposed by the
05:37occupation government to conceal the vulnerability.
05:48In Iran, more than 14 million citizens expressed their willingness to give their
05:52all to defend their country after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly announced that he would commit
05:57war crimes against the Persian nation. Public demonstrations are taking place in numerous cities,
06:02despite the brutal crackdown by the so-called U.S. coalition. The deadline granted by President Trump
06:08for the sixth time to Iran to open the Strait of Vermouth expires at 8 p.m. local time in
06:12Washington.
06:13However, over the past eight hours, in cooperation with Israel, they have bombed civilian areas,
06:18historic sites and even claimed to have attacked nuclear facilities. The attacks have not caused the
06:23Iranians to back down. Instead, Washington has already canceled the press conference schedule for this Tuesday.
06:34You know, our first break coming up. Don't go away.
07:03Welcome back.
07:04The World Health Organization announced the suspension of patient evacuations from the Gaza Strip after a
07:09worker was killed by Israel on Monday. The Organization's Director General Terros Adam
07:13Karpayasos confirmed the tragic event via his ex-account, where he expressed his deep regret over the loss.
07:19As a result of the attack, the organization had suspended transfer operations to Egypt through the
07:23Rafa crossing until further notice. They also called on the relevant authorities to investigate the
07:28incident, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and humanitarian workers in the region.
07:39And China surpassed the United States in global approval ratings, according to a report by the
07:44U.S. consulting firm Gallup. The report noted that in 2025, China's international approval ratings reached
07:5036 percent, while that of the United States stood at 31 percent. The study also indicates that positive
07:56perceptions of China grew in various regions of the world, with increases in several countries. In
08:01contrast, the United States saw a decline in its international image in multiple countries during
08:06the same period. According to Gallup, the trend reflects changes in global perceptions of the leadership
08:12of both powers in an increasingly diverse international context. The report concludes that these results
08:18point toward a more multipolar scenario in which different countries seek to balance their relations among major powers.
08:38The opposition party is on a visit to mainland China, which will last until next Sunday. Beijing has
08:48described the meeting between the Kuomintang and the Chinese Communist Party as a significant and positive
08:53for maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. They assured that it will promote development
08:59under the new circumstances. Before departing for Shanghai, Xiangling Wun said that he accepted the visit
09:04because it responds to the voices of the majority and respects the one-China principle and the non-independence
09:12of Taiwan for future generations.
09:29Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Monday that Ukraine had submitted a proposal to
09:34Russia through U.S. mediators to establish a ceasefire in the attacks on the energy infrastructure of both
09:39countries. The Ukrainian leaders say that if Russia agrees to cease its attacks on Ukraine's energy sector,
09:45his armed forces will do the same. The proposal comes amid ongoing negotiations on security guarantees
09:50considered essential to achieving lasting peace. The attacks on the energy facilities were initiated by
09:57Kyiv and have not only been directed against Russia, the Ukrainian offensive has even affected Hungary,
10:03whose authorities have filed a case against it in international court. For that reason,
10:08Moscow has shown little confidence in the proposal.
10:16And on Tuesday, at least three people, a couple and their seven-year-old son,
10:20were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack in the Russian Vladimir Oblast, east of Moscow.
10:25The regional governor, Alexander Adedyev, accused Ukraine of carrying out attacks against civilian
10:30infrastructure and confirmed the deaths. Furthermore, he reported that a five-year-old girl, also the
10:36couple's daughter, was hospitalized due to burns sustained during the attack. The governor emphasized
10:40that the residents of the affected building are safe and that the fire caused by the impact has
10:45already been brought under control. IDJF also expressed his condolences to the victims' families
10:51and called for justice before the international community.
11:02And on Tuesday, preschool teachers in Madrid community in Spain began an indefinite strike to
11:08demand better working conditions. The protest, organized by the Labor Platform for Early Childhood
11:13Education, aims to highlight what they consider a lack of institutional attention towards the
11:19zero to three-year-old education sector. Among their main demands are a reduction in the number of
11:24students per teacher, better salaries and conditions similar to those in other educational stages.
11:29The workers are also calling for greater investment in facilities and resources,
11:34as well as measures to strengthen early childhood care. The protests have the support of some families
11:40who have expressed concern about the conditions under which this level of education operates.
11:55Artisanal miners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are being relocated following a radiological emergency
12:00within the Kamoto Corporate Company's concession. Civil society organizations have assured that workers
12:06will be relocated to designated artisanal mining areas following the discovery of uranium and plutonium in Lualaba province.
12:13The Congolese Nuclear Authority reported that all safety measures have been implemented, qualified experts
12:19are on site to assess the scope of the emergency and protection and decontamination equipment is
12:24available in addition to maintaining surveillance. The authorities emphasized their commitment to
12:29mobilizing the necessary resources and acting responsibly to protect citizens and the environment.
12:39We now have our second break. Don't go away.
13:03Welcome back. In Cuba, hundreds of women from Mavana raised their voices against the blockade while paying tribute to the
13:10heroine of the mountains and the plains will must mean on the 96th anniversary of her birth.
13:15This day of unity and tribute, which is being held in other provinces as well,
13:19aims to shine a light on the daily hardships they endure amidst the blockade imposed by the
13:24White House for over six decades and the tightening of restrictions. Women denounce that these scores of
13:30measures violated fundamental human rights and hindered the country's social economic development.
13:34Furthermore, they point out that the tightening of energy restrictions has led to the paralysis or
13:39reduction of important activities and programs and an excessive increase in the price of goods and services.
13:53And Cuba's President Miguel Diaz-Canel condemned the criminal damage caused by Washington's blockade
13:58before U.S. congressmen. Cuban President Diaz-Canel recently hosted U.S. Congresswoman Pramila Hayapal
14:04and Jonathan Jackson, who are currently visiting the country. Also, the Cuban leader reiterated the
14:09government's willingness to engage in bilateral dialogue aimed at finding solutions to the differences
14:14between the two countries. Furthermore, the congressmen demanded an end to the fuel blockade,
14:19which they described as a cruel collective punishment that causes serious harm to the Cuban people.
14:32And the General Directorate of Immigration reports that over 2,000 foreign nationals were
14:38deported during the Holy Week holidays in the Dominican Republic. The agency reported that between April 2nd and
14:445th, 2,311 foreigners in regular immigration status were detained and 2,260 were deported. Operations
14:52were concentrated in the greater Santo Domingo area and other provinces. The authorities noted that the
14:57transfers were conducted through border crossings leading to the assumption that the majority were
15:02Haitian citizens despite the lack of specified nationality for the deported individuals. The General
15:07Directorate of Migration says these operations are meant to regulate migration and strengthen border control,
15:13following current legislation.
15:20And Haiti's armed forces have been on high alert since last Monday amid a resurgence of violence
15:25affecting the population. Status is the highest alert, the level for military personnel, meaning they can
15:32take leave, have to wear uniforms and are constantly surveilled. The Army High Command ordered its troops to be on
15:39alert due to the violence by guns in Port-au-Prince and the launch of operations by the UN gun
15:44suppression force. The deployment is being
15:47coordinated under the command of the Lieutenant General of the Armed Forces and is also being carried out
15:51in light of the withdrawal of personnel who were protecting former members of the transition of
15:55the presidential council and other high-ranking government officials.
16:04In the final week of the election campaign in Peru, presidential candidates are focusing their final campaign events on the
16:11northern and southern regions of the country.
16:13The presidential candidates are focusing their rallies on areas outside of Lima where there is a high
16:18concentration of undecided borders. Following the entry into force of the polling ban, the candidates have
16:23turned to public squares in cities such as Trujillo and Juliaca to gain the population support. In this context,
16:29candidates such as Roberto Sanchez travel to Iquitos to strengthen his presence in the east, while Rafael
16:34Lopez Aliaga, Keiko Fujimori and Cesar Acuna are seeking support on the streets to mobilize new supporters.
16:47And the government of President Alenoboa in Ecuador is moving forward with a reform that could shift the
16:52balance of power in the country, transferring the authority to appoint the state's main oversight officials
16:57to parliament, a responsibility that currently belongs to the Council of Citizens, Participation and Social
17:01Control. To achieve this call, the executive must secure approval from citizens through a referendum.
17:07On Tuesday, despite clear opposition from one of its councillors, the National Electoral Council decided
17:12to forward the reformulated text of the amendment to the constitutional court. The court will now review
17:17the document before the executive issues a decree calling for a popular consultation, which is expected
17:22to coincide with the original elections on November 29th, also brought forward by the government.
17:27Councilor Jera Elena Najera questioned the electoral body's role at this stage, arguing that the court's
17:33ruling requires the document to be sent directly to the tribunal without the need for the electoral
17:38authority to intervene.
17:44And in Brazil, Federal Deputy Lindbergh Farias called on the Federal Supreme Court through his social media
17:50accounts to order the preventive detention of Eduardo Bolsonaro. He stated,
17:54I requested the federal Supreme Court to order the preventive detention of Eduardo Bolsonaro so that
17:59he can no longer exert international pressure from abroad against the Brazilian authorities and the
18:03electoral court. In the new petition, we argue that Eduardo publicly announces his intention to use U.S.
18:09authorities and power structures against members of the Supreme Electoral Court during the 2026 elections.
18:15This statement demonstrates that Eduardo has not backed down and continues with the same strategy of
18:19undermining Brazilian institutions with external support. Now with a direct focus on the electoral process.
18:27This statement exacerbates the situation, increases the risk of continued misconduct,
18:31and calls for a firm response from the Supreme Court.
18:41In Mexico, the number of road blockades registered in various states by truck drivers and farmers decreased.
18:46The Ministry of the Interior explained that this reduction was made possible thanks to coordination
18:50among authorities and dialogue with truck drivers and farmers. In a statement, it noted that the goal
18:56is to minimize the impact on the public. In this regard, government called on groups that still maintain
19:01blockades to use institutional channels and clear the roads in order to guarantee free traffic.
