00:18part of the Bolivar government's back to the homeland plan. In Ecuador, several organizations
00:26that defend its rights filed an action of unconstitutionality against the intelligence
00:31law promoted by President Daniel Lopoa. Syria and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire after
00:40days of earthquakes and bloodshed in the western Syrian region of Zubaydah.
00:50Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the De Rezu Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:55We'll begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:10A flight with 252 Venezuelan migrants kidnapped in El Salvador arrived in Caracas Friday as
01:15part of the Bolivar government's back to the homeland plan. The Venezuelan nationals were
01:20welcomed at the capital city's Mike Quetilla Airport by Vice President Nelson Rodriguez and
01:25Minister of Interior Diosdalo Cabello, who went inside the aircraft to greet the group before
01:30the boarding. In his address to the press at the airport's tarmac, Cabello informed that in
01:36El Salvador the migrants were taken to the aircraft in handcuffs and were shot at with pellets before
01:41boarding, injuring some of them. The high government officials rejected the action and called it a
01:47barbaric act on the part of Maggi Bukele's administration. Cabello also called the United
01:51Nations to conduct an investigation about the incident.
01:55What I have in my hand. Let the world know what a radnei bukla is. With these he said goodbye to our young
02:12Venezuelans. After they got off the buses to board the plane, they were shot at with pellets. There are
02:21several boys wounded. The world needs to know this. Since he was left out in our negotiation, we have
02:29never talked with who illegally governs El Salvador. Since he was left out by his bosses, the gringos, and
02:39talked directly with the United States government. They took it out on our boys. And some of them are
02:55wounded because they shot at them. He is a scoundrel. And in this regard, President Nicolás Maduro
03:04welcomed the first plane of migrants rescues from El Salvador. The first plane has just landed with
03:13the 252 Venezuelans rescued and freed from the concentration and torture camps of Naib Bukel in
03:23El Salvador. Here they come arriving. The Venezuelan boys who were kidnapped, disappeared, tortured,
03:33and 125 days later, we rescued them. Freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom.
03:47Rubio has announced that Brazilian judge Alexander Morais' visa to the U.S. has been revoked and that
03:54the same applies to all members of Brazil's federal supreme court and to their immediate family. This
04:00measure was prompted by Judge Morais ordering an electronic ankle bracelet for former President
04:06Jair Bolsonaro, who is facing trial for attempted coup d'etat and other serious crimes. It should be noted
04:11that if found guilty, Bolsonaro will be facing a 40-year prison sentence. This is a new act of
04:17interference by the U.S. Secretary of State, who has deemed a sovereign country's court decision as
04:22political witch hunt, invalidation of fundamental human rights and which affects citizens of the United States.
04:27In Ecuador, several organizations that defend digital rights filed an action of unconstitutionality
04:41against the intelligence law promoted by President Aliendo Boa. Organizations such as the Permanent
04:46Committee for the Defense of Human Rights, Women's Communication Workshop, and the Regional Foundation
04:51for Human Rights Counseling, among others, presented before the Constitutional Court their action.
04:57Their organizations claim that several articles of the law seriously violate fundamental rights
05:02enshrined in the Constitution, such as freedom of expression, access to public information,
05:07or the protection of personal data and privacy, among a long list. Jonathan Finlay, one of the activists
05:13promoting the legal action, states that the law empowers the states to arbitrarily order the
05:18persecution and collection of mass data.
05:27We have a history of illegal espionage. We can remember the year 2014 when the Galileo software
05:33was purchased by the government of the day. At that time it was used against journalists,
05:39against human rights defenders, and it was acquired at that time by the intelligence agency of that time.
05:44Since then we have seen a series of events that have attracted a lot of attention,
05:54such as the harassment of human rights defenders, journalists, censorship, and recently during the
06:00case of Fernando Villavicencio, it became known that the software was being used for espionage
06:06tasks against political opponents. Even the then-director Bolivar Tello said in the National Assembly
06:18that this emergency system had been used to spy on him.

06:35Welcome back. The people of Nicaragua prepare to celebrate the 46th anniversary of the triumph
06:59of the Sandinista People's Revolution. The date marks the beginning of the victory of the
07:04Sandinista Revolution that overthrew the dictatorship of the Somoza family,
07:08which ruled the nation from 1936 to 1979. On Saturday, tribute will be paid to the thousands
07:14of Kenan women who gave their lives in defense of the popular revolution, building a new Nicaragua
07:20full of strength, security, and order. Co-president Rosario Murillo invited the people to celebrate
07:26the police achievements. And in Colombia, international organizations such as the UN,
07:35social and human rights organizations, warn of violence in indigenous communities.
07:40Our colleague, Enanto Barr, with the details.
07:45The United Nations Human Rights Office in Colombia, through this communique, reports on the violation of
07:49indigenous communities, particularly the Nicaragua, rejecting the displacement caused by fighting
07:54between the armed actors presented in the Department of Guaviare, where this community has hit settlements,
08:01and which the Constitutional Court declared as subjects of special protections against their
08:05imminent extermination in 2009.
08:13Indigenous families of the Nicaragua people have been displaced by armed groups. This indigenous
08:18people has been declared by the Constitutional Court that they are in the process of physical and
08:23cultural extermination. Therefore, it is required that all armed groups and the state commit themselves to
08:29respect this population. We, as the Colombian indigenous movement group in the ONIC, vehemently reject and
08:39condemn this atrocious violation of human rights and the international humanitarian law. Therefore, we call
08:46on the Colombian state, headed by the president, to take action on the matter.
08:50Another of the departments affected by the interest of the armed groups is Cauca. The most recent violent event is
09:04related to the kidnapping of eight government officials by four-packed dissidents who claim
09:09responsibility for the kidnapping, arguing that the officials were carrying out military tasks, while the
09:15government, through a communique, rejected the event and also maintained that its officials were
09:20carrying out humanitarian and social missions.
09:24This act constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and a direct attack
09:30against the exercise of civilian functions and the protection of the victims of the armed conflict.
09:36Any attempt to justify these acts under arguments of supposed military legitimacy is categorically rejected.
09:43No cause authorizes the kidnapping or instrumentalization of public servants,
09:48much less when they perform tasks associated with the fundamental rights of the population,
09:53such as attending to victims. These acts only benefit those who seek to perpetrate the war
09:59and strengthen the drug trafficking networks in the department of Cauca.
10:07In this context, in the number 38 massacre committed in Yondó, Antioquia department, where three people were murdered,
10:16there are present, according to the NGO, Institute for Development and Peace Studies, several groups such as the National Liberation Army and the Narco-Paramilitar Group Clon del Golfo,
10:26in addition to the Gaitanist, Self-Defendants of Colombia.
10:29It is clear that in the middle Magdalena we also had the murder of a woman the day before,
10:37which shows that in this sub-region the armed groups are in full dispute and are also affecting
10:42people of the civilian population. Violating the principle of distinction, we call on the authorities to
10:48prevent this type of events with different capacities and manage to maintain co-existence, peace and
10:54tranquility of the civilian population of the middle Magdalena, Antioquia.
11:06While these situations are occurring, the government is seeking legal solutions for the armed groups
11:11and, in the framework of the last legislative period, will present a bill to subdue the armed
11:17organizations in a final push to its policy of peace. Hernán Darío Tobar, Gaitán Telesur, Bogotá, Colombia.
11:26And in Chile, university students are demanding that the government cover higher education food
11:30scholarships, known as BACs, for the benefit of more than 15,000 students. Chilean Students Confederation
11:37demonstrated in front of the Chilean Monetary Institution to denounce the lack of budget to
11:41cover the food scholarship. This year, the amount assigned to each student beneficiary increased
11:46a fact announced as a historic milestone by the current government of Gabriel Boric. However,
11:51the number of beneficiaries does not increase its ceiling, leaving thousands of students without
11:55this basic access. The Confederation also seeks the creation of a working table where they can
12:01participate and influence the budget discussion as soon as possible.
12:11If we consider that the BACs is a fundamental scholarship for the development and permanence
12:15of the student in higher education, and in this case the fact that many students are left at this
12:21moment without receiving the benefit, because of this manual of allocation and of the lack of
12:30budgetary planning in the quotas for June, July and onwards is an extremely complex situation that
12:37affects, in effect, as many students as families. Because we understand that the food that should
12:43be guaranteed by the state on the permanence of higher education today is not being effective,
12:48is not making reflected for the welfare of society and the student body as a whole.
12:53And in Mexico, the Navy has struck a significant blow against drug trafficking in the northeast of the
13:02country, a region that, due to its geographical location, is a key focal point for this illicit activity.
13:07Specifically, in the state of Sinaloa, known to be a cartel strongholds and
13:11charcoal laboratories were dismantled. In these operations, 4,800 kilograms of methamphetamine and more
13:18than 47,500 liters of chemical substances were seized, along with various laboratory items,
13:24demonstrating the magnitude of drug production in the area. Authorities have revealed that this is
13:29not an isolated event. So far in 2025, 50 such facilities have been discovered throughout Mexico,
13:35underscoring the persistence and scale of the drug trafficking problem in the country.
13:55In Spain, eight aircraft were sent Saturday morning to the cruise, firing a wildfire in the southeastern
14:00Spanish province of Alicante. Ground teams have focused their efforts on securing the perimeter,
14:05paying special attention to the head of the fire and to its right flank, which has affected
14:11Font Roja Natural Park, an area of high ecological value. The use of aerial means is considered key to
14:17support containment and cooling work in hard-to-access areas, and it comes at a great expense to the
14:23Alicante Firefighters Provincial Consortium. Valencian Community Government Delegate Pilar Bernabé
14:29said the starting point of the fire is a religious community near the forest area. The Civil War and
14:33Natural Protection Service have opened an investigation to verify the cause of the fire.

15:23August 17th is strictly complied with, authorizing the beginning of the electoral campaign, mass media,
15:28and the decimation by lottery of the electoral juries. Our correspondent Fred Morales tells us
15:33all the information. The Supreme Electoral Court carried out the drawing of lots for the electoral
15:42jurors who will control the voting day next August 17th abroad.
15:48We have 22 countries with a total of 1,227 tables that will be drawn by lot with a total of 369,308
15:57eligible citizens. The total number of tables abroad amounts to 1,227 and 7,362 jurors will be drawn by lot.
16:11The computerized drawing of electoral jurors was also carried out in each of the nine electoral
16:17tribunals of the country's departments. Three men and three women jurors were drawn by lot for
16:22each polling station. In our country voting is mandatory and fulfilling the function of electoral
16:31jury is a citizen duty. It is obligatory and whoever does not comply with this duty is subject
16:41to sanctions issued by the electoral judge, among them 50 percent of the minimum salary, which amounts
16:46to 1,300 pieces. According to the calendar, the candidates were also authorized to start their
16:57electoral campaign with messages through the mass media and the express prohibition to broadcast
17:03advertising of state institutions. In all governmental propaganda, the regulations state the exception that
17:12it is allowed to disseminate topics related to education, emergency or disaster, education,
17:17health emergency or disaster situations. The rest is strictly forbidden as required by our electoral law.
17:229 candidates are eligible to participate in the elections, 6 from the right and 3 from the left. Those on the
17:36left belong or belong to the movement for socialismo, which has been in government for 19 years. Former
17:42president Ivo Morales insists on claiming to be qualified as a candidate. Polls on voting preference show a
17:50tie between candidates of the right, businessman Samuel Doria and former president Jorge Quiroga.
17:57Freddy Morales, Telesur, Bolivia.
18:01In other news, Syria and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire after days of earthquakes and bloodshed
18:06in the southwestern freedom region of Sueda, according to U.S. Ambassador Turquille Tom Barak.
18:11In a report on Ex early on Saturday, Barak announced the ceasefire between Syria and Israel
18:18was supported by Washington and embraced by Turquille, Jordan and Syria's neighbors.
18:24In his post, Barak also said that the U.S. called upon Druze, Bedouins and Sunnis to put down their
18:31weapons and together with other minorities build a new and united Syrian identity in peace and
18:36prosperity with its neighbors. Just remember that on Wednesday, Israel launched heavy airstrikes targeting
18:41Syrian ministry of defense in the heart of Damascus and also hit Syrian government forces in the
18:45country's Sueda region amidst inter-ethnic clashes that left nearly 600 people dead in the area.
19:03In Palestine, at least 29 Palestinians were killed and more than 70 others injured on
19:16Saturday after Israeli forces opened fire on a crowd of starving civilians in north of Rafa.
19:21Local sources have reported that Israeli troops have fired on desperate residents gathered near a food
19:26aid distribution center. The victims were reportedly trying to access humanitarian aid amid worsening
19:31conditions of hunger and cease in the Gaza Strip. Since the end of May, more than 900 people have died while
19:38waiting for food distribution in Gaza, most of them in the vicinity of centers operated by Israel and the United States.
19:54Also in Palestine, authorities reported that at least 18 Israeli soldiers took their own lives in the last six
19:59month for reasons related to the genocide in the Gaza Strip. As detailed in the report, the victims
20:04took their own lives as a result of increased psychological and physical stress amid the occupations
20:09onslaught in the coastal enclave since October 2023. Thousands of soldiers were diagnosed as
20:15psychologically ill due to mass murder scenarios. To date, 890 Israeli soldiers have been killed in combat since
20:22the beginning of the current phase of aggression.
20:30And in the United Kingdom, thousands take to the streets demanding the national government
20:34overturns the ban on pro-Palestinian demonstrations. Protesters chant slogans in support of Palestine
20:40following an anti-terrorist law imposed by the British states. For this report, at least 120 people
20:45arrested while participating in the pro-Palestinian marches. For her part, the co-founder of Palestine
20:51action prepared this Monday for a court hearing where she would request the repeal of anti-terrorism law.
21:05The national government and our group signed an agreement of principles
21:08for a ceasefire in the Democratic Republic of Congo. After three months of negotiations in Qatar,
21:13the parties to the conflict committed to guaranteeing a peace agreement that will restore social and
21:18economic stability to the country. It documents orders and end to air, land and sea attacks,
21:23as well as any propaganda that promotes hatred. Both sides will have until July 29th,
21:292025 to comply with the declaration of principles. Meanwhile, negotiations for a general ceasefire will
21:35take place on August 8th, 2025.
21:58In Peru, ceviche is more than just a dish. It is a journey through the history, culture and identity of the country.
22:04Its recognition as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO in 2023 is a testimony to its intrinsic value.
22:15Born on the Peruvian coast, ceviche is a culinary legacy that has transcended generations. Its origins date
22:22back to ancient techniques of curing fish with citrus juices, a practice that has evolved over time.
22:27Today, it is an icon of Peruvian gastronomy, a dish that unites celebrations and everyday moments.
22:34The richness of the Andean land and the creativity of the chefs give rise to a wide variety of
22:39preparations, each with its own unique and regional touch.
22:42Each one with its own unique and regional touch.
22:44In addition to its cultural value, ceviche is an economic engine that boosts artisanal fishing
22:53and generates employment in coastal communities. Its demand positions Peru has a gastronomic reference
22:58worldwide, promoting tourism and strengthening the local economy.
23:02The preservation of traditional preparation techniques, responsible fishing and the protection of marine
23:13biodiversity are commitments to the sustainability of this heritage which honors the natural wealth,
23:18history and culture of the Peruvian country, historia y la cultura del país peruano.
