Seth, Sean, Reggie and Luke kick around the ITL question of the day: who's the most underrated currently active athlete in Houston sports?
Transcript
00:00What is the question of the day?
00:01It's been something that I've just been sitting with for a little while,
00:03so I figured let's bring it to air.
00:05Who's the most underrated, not best, underrated athlete currently in the city?
00:10Okay.
00:11Seth, you want to go first?
00:13Zach Allen.
00:15That's –
00:15No.
00:16First of all, you mean Nick Allen.
00:17Okay, I was wondering if that was what he meant,
00:19but I didn't want to try and prescribe that to you.
00:21Damn it.
00:22No, and I didn't even mean it either.
00:24Okay.
00:25It's funny because Zach Allen is a huge man and Nick Allen is a tiny man.
00:28Yeah, are we talking about the past questions?
00:30Nick Allen?
00:30Yeah.
00:30Hey, Seth, Gino Auriemma is an old women's basketball coach.
00:35Gino Smith is a quarterback in the NFL, and I botched that one seven ways to Sunday.
00:40Oh, did you?
00:40I'm going to say –
00:41Because I see all these teams mocking a defensive tackle to the Texans,
00:45and I get it, and I understand that.
00:47And yet, at the very least, they don't even mention Tommy Togia's name when they do it.
00:52It's on the list.
00:53It's on the better list.
00:54I wrote it down.
00:55Number one on my list.
00:56I just showed it to Reggie.
00:57I would say, outside of Houston, he's the most underrated Texan.
01:00He so rarely gets mentioned by people when discussing the current Texans roster.
01:04The other names I wrote down were – I put Aziz Alshair, but he's a pro bowler now,
01:09so he's probably properly rated as opposed to underrated.
01:13Yeah.
01:13But I think he was.
01:14He used to be under – and he was – and then when he had the old Trevor Lawrence thing
01:18last year, I thought he was just completely improperly rated and B-rated by people.
01:23Okay.
01:25One more Texan.
01:26I think Jalen Petrie's a little underrated.
01:29But didn't he – like, especially in this new era of we are all looking for the – we're all
01:34looking for the star player.
01:36He got a lot of love this past season.
01:38Didn't make the pro bowl.
01:40Didn't get the – he got a few all-pro votes.
01:43But was probably the most talked about is a guy that should have made the pro bowl,
01:47but there's no position for him on the pro bowl.
01:49Right, exactly.
01:49Like, the voting's all screwed up.
01:51Yeah.
01:51I think, if anything, he was the guy that was so underrated that now he's properly rated
01:56because people talked about how underrated he was.
01:58Well, some would say he used to be overrated.
02:00You know, when Nick Casario would come on this show in the middle of a horrible season
02:03and say, I take 1,000 Jalen Petries on my team, I would have said he was overrated,
02:09and now I think it skews more towards underrated.
02:11You guys make good points.
02:11He got benched two years ago.
02:12Right, right, right.
02:13That'd be hard to have 1,000 Jalen Petries on your team when they're all sitting on the bench.
02:18Yeah.
02:18You'd have a bad football team.
02:19Complete tangent because I want to get this in while I realized it.
02:22I looked up Zach Allen just to make sure in the moment that I was thinking about who I was.
02:27He has a hyphenated middle name.
02:29Zach Allen does?
02:30Zach William Jacob Allen.
02:32The defensive end?
02:33Yeah.
02:33He has a hyphenated middle name.
02:35You don't see that a lot.
02:36That's really weird.
02:37You know what you don't see a lot?
02:38Hyphenated first names, and that's what the new GM on the Dolphins has.
02:41Oh, yeah.
02:42John Eric.
02:43John Eric.
02:44John Eric Sullivan.
02:45Yeah.
02:45Oh, my gosh.
02:46Yeah.
02:47So pretentious.
02:47Yeah.
02:48Is that what you think when you see double barrel names immediately?
02:51I think you're trying a little too hard.
02:53Yeah, but especially with those names.
02:54That just sounds like, I don't know, country club kid.
02:58Yeah.
02:58Private school.
02:59Zachary William Jacob Allen.
03:00Sounds like he's from Connecticut.
03:02Ironically.
03:02Yeah.
03:03So, yeah, Petrie.
03:05I wrote Jabari Smith Jr. down as a little underrated.
03:08And here's why.
03:09Because I think, I think Amin Thompson, Alperin Shengun, and Kevin Durant get the lion's share
03:15of the attention.
03:16Like, if you asked people who are the big three on the Rockets, everybody would say that.
03:20The correlation of Jabari Smith Jr. performance and the performance of this basketball team
03:26is very aligned.
03:28Like, when Jabari's not good, they're not good.
03:31I think Jabari Smith Jr. is a little, and he's paid like he's a little underrated.
03:35He got an extension that was less than, significantly less than some of the other guys in his draft
03:39class there.
03:41So, Jabari Smith Jr.
03:42I'm with you.
03:43You're nodding your head, Reg.
03:43Reggie's nodding his head.
03:45These are great answers you guys are bringing up.
03:46I don't want to steal all the answers.
03:47At this point, I feel like you guys might have done the segment.
03:49We might not be able to do it 10-4.
03:51No, you can do it.
03:51We might need to come up with a new question of the day.
03:53Or you can, yeah, sorry about that.
03:55No, it's cool.
03:55I love it.
03:56Well, you can do all-time underrated, too.
03:58You make it, you know, if you make it, you know, if you get some of the olds on there
04:02talking about how underrated, you know, Bill Spires was for the Astros back in the day.
04:06You hear that old 10-40?
04:07Yeah.
04:07Yep.
04:08Show up.
04:08Yep.
