00:00It's extremely disappointing that the strikes are going ahead.
00:03We want to continue to discuss this with the BMA, with the resident doctors,
00:07and get a resolution to this because it is in no one's interest that this strike goes ahead.
00:12And what I would say is that patients should continue to come forward for treatment
00:15to make sure that they're getting the treatment and support that they need,
00:18even when these strikes are taking place.
00:20We were clear that that investment in training places could only go ahead.
00:24The resource and the money would only be there if the strikes didn't proceed
00:27because now we're having to divert resources into making sure that people are getting treatment when they come forward.
00:32That's, unfortunately, where we've ended up, and that's why it's absolutely essential that we get back around the table,
00:37that we seek a resolution to this, and we are open to discuss this at any point with representatives.
00:42Is this embarrassing for the Prime Minister, though?
00:44No, I think it's just disappointing that we've ended up in a situation where the resident doctors are going out
00:49on strike,
00:49and I don't think it's fair on patients.
00:51I think the offer that's on the table is a fair one all round, both for resident doctors,
00:55but also for the NHS as a whole, and I would just urge them to get back around the table
00:59and try and find a way through this.
