00:54Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Sophie Fernanda from the Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with
00:59the news. Stay with us.
01:17Iran's Revolutionary Forces shot down several U.S. warplanes in a single day, in what Tehran describes as a black
01:23day for Washington's Air Force amid the ongoing war in the Middle East.
01:27Iran's Central Command announced that one of the U.S. fighter jets down is a high-tech F-35, located
01:34in the central region of Iran.
01:36As already indicated, the aircraft, which belonged to the Lakhine Heads Squadron, was completely destroyed.
01:43Iranian forces also noted that the pilot's warabouts are unknown.
01:46And in a subsequent statement, the Iranian command, other than an F-15 fighter jet belonging to the U.S.
01:52Air Force, also was shot down over Iranian territory,
01:56at around the same time that an A-10 attack aircraft was hit in southern waters, near the strategic strata
02:03Formos.
02:08In addition, the Iranian Armed Forces intercepted two U.S. helicopters that were attempting to fly near the Iranian border.
02:15The U.S. forces block Hawk helicopters were spotted flying south of the town of Yuhestan.
02:22This was part of Washington's operations to search for a U.S. pilot following the downing of a warpline near
02:27the border between Iran and Iraq the previous day.
02:36On a Saturday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps denied responsibility for an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Haryat
02:43on early March.
02:45The Revolutionary Guard's Public Relations Office condemned the attack on the facility and declared that it had no connection to
02:51the Iranian Armed Forces.
02:52On March 3rd, the U.S. Embassy in the Saudi Arabia capital was attacked by the drones in the early
02:58morning, causing significant property damage.
03:01The Persian nation considered this attack to be part of the East Side's regime strategy and accused it of being
03:07behind the incident.
03:09The Iranian organization also confirmed that the list of the Armed Forces targets had been announced in advance and that
03:16the necessary warnings had been issued to neighboring countries.
03:18The statement called on countries in the Middle East to remain vigilant and exercise caution in the face of the
03:24intrigues orchestrated by the U.S. Zionist Alliance.
03:33For his part, Iranian President Massoud Pesheshkin condemned the constant and criminal attacks by the United States against the region,
03:40which have killed many innocent civilians.
03:43The Iranian leader took to his ex-account to share.
03:46Just as I was addressing the American people, the head of our Strategic Council of Foreign Policy was targeting an
03:52assassination attempt, leading to the murder of his innocent wife.
03:57Let the world judge which side engages in dialogue and in negotiation and which in terrorism.
04:10On Saturday, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran denounced the new U.S.-Israeli attack on a nuclear facility.
04:17Precisely, the authority informed on NEX.
04:20This morning, a missile struck near the fence out of the Bushir nuclear power plant.
04:24The shockwave damaged one of the auxiliary buildings and, unfortunately, one of the physical security personnel was murdered.
04:31Adding that, this is the fourth attack on the Bushir plant in the recent post-war.
04:36The plant's main sections have not been damaged.
04:46For his part, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran accused on Thursday the International Atomic Energy Agency of complicity with
04:54aggressors after failing to denounce the attacks on the nation's nuclear sites.
04:58In a Bosnese sex account, the Persian nation's authority condemned.
05:03The IAEA silence on the U.S.-Israeli regime's attacks on Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities is not merely inaction, but clearly
05:11complicit with the perpetuators.
05:13The chief of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has sent protest letters to the Director General, assuring that this
05:21historic negligence arose the IAEA's little remaining credibility.
05:33Meanwhile, thousands of protesters in Iran take to the streets to support the Iranian revolution and condemn aggression by the
05:39United States and Israel.
05:41The protesters chanted slogans against the Zionist regime of their Western ally in order to demonstrate national unity and support
05:48for the Iranian government.
05:49While celebrating the news, the Iranian air defense shut down two U.S. fighter jets.
05:54Since the aggression began on February 28th, Iranians have maintained their presence in the streets, which reflects their support for
06:02the Islamic revolution.
06:11And the Israeli aggressions against southern Lebanon continue, with 32 people injured and hospital damaged in the last few hours.
06:18According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 11 were injured, including three paramedics, after two Israeli raids in the Al
06:25-Quskaria in the city of Tireh, which caused damage to the Lebanese-Italian hospital.
06:31Previously, the Ministry of Health reported that 21 people were injured in an Israeli raid in the town of Magrka.
06:37Furthermore, local media reports that the Israeli army launched two raids on the southern suburbs of Beirut, amid intensive overflights
06:45by its fighter jets around the clock.
06:47So far, Israeli aggression against Lebanon since March 2nd has resulted in 1,368 deaths and 4,138 injuries.
07:04And as the war on Iran continues rushing through the Middle East, the situation of Palestinian families in the Gaza
07:10Strip worsens.
07:11As scarce aids, soaring prices and dangerous shelters leave families reliant on soup kitchens, struggling to buy food.
07:21I can't provide food and drink necessary for eight people.
07:26So as you see, we rely on the shardy kitchens.
07:29Whether I get food or not, we wait from 7 in the morning until 4 or 5 in the afternoon
07:33to provide one meal, two meals or three, as God gives.
07:39Sometimes I bring food, and 10 times I don't. The meal I took, I gave it for seven people. Sometimes
07:45a meal of rice is eaten by seven or eight people.
07:48And honestly, it's not enough. Everything is available in the markets, but there is no money. In addition to that,
07:53I am a craftsman, but there is no job opportunity.
07:58And now, we have a short break coming up. But first, remember, you can join us on TikTok at TheLazureEnglish,
08:03where you will find useful formats, news updates, and more.
08:07We'll be right back. Stay with us.
08:26Welcome back. We continue in Afghanistan, where heavy rainfall in the eastern province of Nangahrar has left four deaths in
08:33the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 55.
08:37Among the victims are two children and a woman who lost their lives when the roofs and walls of their
08:41homes collapsed, as well as another person who died following the collapse of a poultry farm where 1,500 birds
08:49were also lost.
08:50For more, nine people were injured over the past week, rising the total number to 98, as operations to assist
08:57those affected continue.
08:59In addition, local authorities reported that the rains and floodings have damaged dozens of homes, farmland and public facilities.
09:14Meanwhile in Syria, the Mediterranean city of Latakia was covered in a thick haze on Friday. A Saharan dust storm
09:21reaches the coast.
09:22According to the General Dictator of Meteorology, the storm originated in North Africa and moved towards Cyprus before rapidly embossing
09:31eastwards into Syria.
09:33Local media reported that the dust storm affected large parts of western Syria's Latakia and Tartus, and it is expected
09:41to persist until Saturday morning.
09:43Drone footage shows dust clouds engulfing the city's skyline and obscuring the horizon, while traffic continues to move through the
09:51streets despite the reduced visibility.
09:53Authorities also indicated that the storm could spread to other parts of the country.
10:09Another news in Russia. An air strike carried out by the Ukrainian army left one dead and four injured in
10:14the city of Tangarok.
10:15Three local residents and one foreign national remained in critical condition following the impact of drones that caused a fire
10:22in the warehouses of a logistics company.
10:25Although the fire in the ground-level warehouse was under control and no employees are reported to be trapped, the
10:33region remains on high alert due to the possibility of brutal attacks.
10:36Meanwhile, emergency teams continued to work on the ground to assess the total extent of the material damage.
10:49We move now to the United States, where President Donald Trump's approval rating has hit its record low, with only
10:5639% of U.S. citizens approving of the administration's performance amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East and
11:02ahead of the November midterm elections.
11:05According to the latest polls, 57% of the population disapproved Trump's administration, while 60% disapproved his handling of
11:13the war.
11:13Meanwhile, Congress approved stands at a very low 11%, with 63% disapproval.
11:20This record low approval rating for Donald Trump comes as fuel prices rise, both nation and worldwide, after his administration
11:27started drawing aggressions with Israel against Iran on late February.
11:37And in the United States, a coalition of Democratic State Attorney General filed a lawsuit on Friday challenging President Donald
11:44Trump's new executive order regarding mailing voting ahead of the November midterm elections.
11:49The lawsuit was filed in a federal court in Boston by Attorney General in 22 states and the District of
11:56Columbia, together with Pennsylvania Governor George Shapiro.
12:00The state attorney generals argued that Trump's order violates the Constitution and unlawfully interferes with mailing voting by directing the
12:07United States Postal Service to block the delivery of ballots based on criteria outside the state's control.
12:14The case added to the rising number of legal challenges, taking aim at the document signed on Tuesday, with cases
12:20also being pursued by arms of the Democratic Party and voting rights advocates.
12:31Meanwhile, in Brazil, President Luiz Inácio Lula de Silva rejected the Office of the United States Trade Representative's criticism of
12:38instant payment system PICS during a speech in Salvador on Thursday.
12:43The North American authority raised concerns about Brazil's instant payment system, citing complaints from U.S. companies that alleged the
12:50central bank on Brazil grants the platform preferential treatment that could disadvantage international digital payment providers.
13:05In this context, President Luiz Inácio Lula de Silva assured the system will not be changed since it provides an
13:11important service for Brazilian society.
13:22The United States released a report this week about PICS and said that PICS distorts international trade because it believes
13:37it creates problems for its currency.
13:43What is important to say to anyone who wants to listen is that PICS is from Brazil and nobody, nobody
13:50is going to make us change PICS because of the service it is providing to Brazilian society.
13:58What we can do is improve PICS so that it can better meet the needs of the women and men
14:03of this country.

14:22Final short break. We'll be right back.
14:45Welcome back to From the South. We continue in Argentina, where a joint British-Israeli oil project in the Malvinas
14:52Islands advances.
14:53Sparking strong condemnations over the flood and violation of sovereignty and the theft of Argentina's strategy resources.
15:00The British oil company Rockhopper, in partnership with the Israeli company Navitas Petroleum, plans to begin oil production near the
15:08Malvinas Islands in early 2028, in early illegal advancement of Argentina's natural resources.
15:15The offshore sea lion project, located 200 kilometers north of the Malvinas Islands, seeks to operate under the licenses granted
15:23by the colonial government and systematically ignores warnings from the South American country's legislation.
15:30For more, the announcement was made on the eve of April 2nd, date that marks the anniversary of the 1982
15:36war, in a direct provocation to Argentina's historic claim to sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands.
15:51Meanwhile in Peru, at least one person died and dozens were injured after a structural collapse in the Alejandro Villanueva
15:57Stadium in Lima.
15:59Authorities activated emergency protocols and transported the injured to various hospitals, while the causes of the incident are being investigated.
16:08Following the emergency, a large-scale medical response was deployed, including the dispatch of agents from the Mobile Emergency Medical
16:15Service to provide pre-hospital care at the scene.
16:18It is worth noting that the incident occurred during the traditional flag-waving event organized by fans in the south
16:25stand of the stadium, an occasion with fans gathered to cheer on the team before important matches.
16:37In other news in Rome, Italy, Pope Leo XIV led the faithful at the Good Friday way of the cross
16:44by carrying the cross throughout the Colosseum.
16:47Joined by around 30,000 faithful, the Pope led the walks through the ruins of the ancient Roman edifice.
16:52The Catholic pontiff thus became the second pope to carry the cross for the entire Via Cruxes on Good Friday
16:59at the site, following in the footsteps of Pope St. John Paul II.
17:05Passages from the Gospel were read, along with experts from the writing of St. Francis.
17:10At the conclusion of the act, the religious leader prayed that Christian Day's response to St. Francis' invitation to live
17:17our lives as a journey of ever-deepening participation in the communion of love.
17:28And thousands of people gathered in Mexico City's Eastapalpa on Good Friday to witness the 183rd annual reenactment of the
17:37Passion of Christ.
17:38The tradition, which was recognized as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2025, featured dozens of actors portraying biblical passages
17:48from the New Testament.
17:49The crowd accompanied the solemn procession, which began at the Magro Plaza of Bajario San Lucas Evangelista Church, and continued
17:58through the eight regional neighborhoods in Eastapalapa, passing through its streets and plazas.
18:03The reenactment concluded with the crucifixion seat at the Cerro de la Estrella.
18:08The Passion of Christ in Eastapalapa began in 1843, after residents made a promise after suffering from a cholera epidemic.
18:16It has since grown into one of the most significant Hollywood celebrations in Latin America.
18:29It is something that our ancestors left us and that we continue to take up.
18:33Right now new generations are carrying it on, so it is something that is not lost because it is instilled
18:38in us from childhood.
18:40It is a reflection about each person. For example, if you fall, you can get back up. It's like resilience,
18:51you could say.
18:53If you have some issue or something that has affected your life, you have the possibility to rise again and
19:00continue.
19:04And in commemoration of Holy Week, the Deputy of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Nicolás Maluguerra, delivered a speech highlighting forgiveness
19:11in the face of betrayal as the central message of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ.
19:21Today, Good Friday, Friday, April 3rd, we commemorate the patient and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. A day like
19:30today, he was sold, betrayed, subjected to religious and political trials, scorched, crowned by thorns, forced to carry his cross
19:41and crucify it.
19:44And along that journey, our Lord Jesus Christ forgave all who mistreated him, those who tried to humiliate him through
19:57his patient and death and subsequent resurrection. He forgave humanity.
20:01Three months ago today, we also suffered an attack and military invasion in which more than 100 people died defending
20:12the homeland and President Nicolás Maduro and Celia Flores were kidnapped.
20:19Meanwhile, in Bolivia on Friday, more than 300 artists gathered at the 20th National and International Science Culture Meeting in
20:26Oruro to sculpt science figures in biblical scenes as part of the Holy Week celebrations.
20:32The dunes of Cochillara saw participants crafting large-scale works despecting passages from the Old and New Testaments.
20:40The making of the sand sculptures in the locality during Good Friday has been carried out for two decades, becoming
20:47a tradition that attracts hundreds of visitors and artists each year from neighboring countries, including Argentina and Peru.
20:53The other sound sculptures will be available to the public until Saturday, April 4th.
21:04And like this, we have come to the end of this June's brief.
