Seth, Sean, Reggie and Lopez talk about the ITL question of the day: who's the biggest flex you've got in your phone that'll actually answer?
Transcript
00:00So, what is the question of the day, fellas?
00:02Who is your phone flex?
00:04As in, you get pulled over in Jupiter, Florida.
00:08Yeah.
00:08You walk away and say, yeah, that was the president.
00:11Sorry.
00:11I ended my conversation with the president so that you can arrest him.
00:16Just so you know.
00:17Yes.
00:17Yeah.
00:18Who could you pick up the phone or do you have?
00:22Okay.
00:23The most famous person I could just pick up the phone and call and put him on speaker
00:28or whatever that I can think of, because, I mean, this isn't a flex or this isn't me
00:33being a jerk and the audience is listening.
00:35You sound like a diva or whatever.
00:36In our line of work, we wind up with a lot of phone numbers.
00:39So, I've got a lot of phone numbers.
00:42But the first one that comes to mind is Jim Ross, the famous WWE announcer, because he's
00:46actually a good friend.
00:47Yeah.
00:48I consider him like a mentor of mine.
00:50Yeah, yeah.
00:51So, that's probably mine.
00:52Now, I have Vince McMahon's number in my phone, but I don't dare call it.
00:57Yeah, I don't know.
00:58Especially now.
00:58Yeah, right.
00:59Have you ever called it?
01:00I don't need to wind up on those phone records.
01:01Yeah.
01:02Have you ever called it?
01:03Uh, no.
01:05Or texted it?
01:06Nope.
01:07Never have.
01:07Never have.
01:08But I know it's his number because I confirmed it with somebody who would know that it's
01:11his number.
01:12And I'm trying, Seth, I'm trying to think of like not the ones that we would know.
01:15Right.
01:15Yeah.
01:16Not an athlete.
01:16Not Jeff Bagwell or, you know.
01:18Yeah.
01:19Like some.
01:19I'm going to.
01:19Yeah.
01:20Well, let's conspicuously mention the ones we won't mention.
01:25John's going for three minutes.
01:28Sure, Bagwell or J.J. Watt or whatever.
01:31That little Spongebob thing pops up four minutes later and John is still like laying out names.
01:37Yeah.
01:38I would say, honestly, for me, this isn't, I don't, this probably isn't the biggest celebrity,
01:43but the one that I'm most happy about is the comedian Gary Gullman, who's one of my favorite
01:49comedians and the fact that I like, I text them maybe once or twice a year, just random
01:55things.
01:55And I just, that always makes me really, really happy because it's somebody that I put him
02:00on a list that I'm working on of people that make me happy to be alive, but I kind of
02:04like,
02:04oh, I can listen to it and be, which is ironic because he's incredibly depressed.
02:09He's very open about it.
02:11But yeah, that's, that's the one for me.
02:13And Wade Phillips.
02:14I feel like Wade Phillips too.
02:15Oh, Wade.
02:15Yeah.
02:16John said before we, when we were talking about this question over in the, in the other
02:21studio over there, you'd mentioned Bum Phillips is a, is what you used to have.
02:25Yeah.
02:25Oh yeah.
02:26Three of mine, two of them are dead and one, I lost the number.
02:29Uh, my, the ones that would fit this, like George HW Bush.
02:33I used to, I used to chat with him occasionally.
02:36Yeah.
02:36Yeah.
02:36He was great.
02:37Great Houstonian.
02:38Yes.
02:38Bum Phillips was the other one.
02:40Yup.
02:40And Jack Nicklaus.
02:42Jack Nicklaus?
02:43Yeah.
02:43I had Jack Nicklaus's number, but I lost it somewhere along the line.
02:45It's on your BlackBerry.
02:47Yeah.
02:48Right.
02:48That's what I wanted to ask you.
02:49How do you.
02:50I've got so many numbers on my BlackBerry.
02:51I got to find that thing.
02:53Dude.
02:53I still have all my BlackBerrys in a, in a box somewhere.
02:56Yeah.
02:56Yeah.
02:56Including one that we, I used to have a fire pit in my backyard, uh, in the house that
03:00I lived in up in Naperville and my BlackBerry fell into the fire pit.
03:04So I've still got a BlackBerry that's like half melted.
03:07I kept them all.
03:08I don't even know if you charged them off.
03:09Nicholas.
03:10I did a book, a golf book, uh, about probably 10, 12 years ago now.
03:14And he was designing the course, redesigning the course.
03:17And I got to, you know, walk the 18 with him and sit down with him for an interview
03:21on his jet, which was pretty cool.
03:23Uh, and then he gave me his number and we would follow up.
03:26But my favorite Jack Nicklaus moment ever was like, I was working on the book and had,
03:32I texted him or something and, or his assistant and he called back and he goes, Hey, uh, John,
03:39uh, this is Jack.
03:40And I was like, I am aware.
03:42No bleeps.
03:43Yeah.
03:44I am aware.
03:44He's got a very distinctive voice.
03:46Very kind of high pitched.
03:47Okay.
03:47I have two questions.
03:48Was the book about the course?
03:49It was like a coffee table.
03:50About the history of the course.
03:52Okay.
03:52Gotcha.
03:53About the history of the course so that they give to their members.
03:55It was a very, very private, very elite course.
04:02A lot of pick, a lot of good pictures in it.
04:03I would imagine.
04:04Yeah.
04:05Um, we're, when you were interviewing him on his plane, was the plane docked in a hangar
04:11somewhere or we had to leave with him?
04:13We did the course and I walked the 18 holes with him and interviewed him and I had some
04:16more stuff.
04:17I rode back to the airport with him and then got on his plane right before he left to
04:22finish up some stuff.
04:22Okay.
04:23And then I left.
04:24Oh, that's cool.
04:24That was really cool.
04:25Okay.
04:25That was really cool.
04:26My current ones, I got John Smoltz, believe it or not.
04:29Uh, I believe that we wind up with some really weird ones.
04:32You know what?
04:33The big catalyst for that is by the way, Smoltz was from that same book.
04:37Oh, he's a huge old, all those Braves pictures.
04:40And he's a member.
04:41They were legendary for that.
04:42Yeah.
04:42Yeah.
04:42We just, yeah, we, we wind up with a lot of numbers in this as, as, uh, displayed by
04:47the fact that you were just like, well, I got Bagwell, probably people, you know,
04:52people listening like that's Jeff Bagwell.
04:53Well, now they're like, well, now they're like, well, Jeff Bagwell, Raphael Montero.
04:59Yeah.
04:59Yeah.
04:59You got his number, John?
05:01Text him.
05:01Text him.
05:02It's a Hosea Brae.
05:03He's signed.
05:03What the hell are you doing?
05:04Yeah.
05:05Exactly.
05:06Exactly.
05:06I realized that when Aaron Glenn got his job with the Jets, I congratulated some random
05:11dude named Aaron, uh, cause I've got three Aaron's here.
05:14Which is in my, I'm looking at my phone.
05:15I just started with the A's and I remembered, oh yeah, some Aaron guy got a congratulations
05:20from me and he said, thanks.
05:22And, uh, for what?
05:25And I left it at that.
05:27I don't know.
05:27Like I don't have any history of this.
05:29That would have been great if the guy had a kid or something like that, that day.
05:32That would have been funny.
05:33Let it die.
05:34Yeah.
05:35Uh, all right.
05:36Um, uh, you're listening to KLT AM, KLT FM, HD two Houston, an Odyssey sports station.
05:43Cross talk brought to you by DNM auto leasing.
05:45Yup.
05:45What are you looking at me like?
05:46No, I wasn't.
05:47Sorry.
05:47I heard it.
05:48I know nothing happened.
05:50I say nothing.
05:51I apologize for breaking up your flow.
05:53My bad.
05:54Okay.
05:56I'll text you.
05:57Yeah.
05:57Text me.
05:57Let me know.
05:58Let me know.
05:59I need to be better at like just keeping my thoughts inside.
06:02They always show up on my face.
06:03Okay.
06:03Okay.
06:04Gotcha.
06:04Gotcha.
06:05Oh, is it about the text that's right there?
06:07No, that's part of it, but that wasn't the immediate instance.
06:09Okay.
06:10What is it?
06:12There's a text.
06:13It's about, there's a texter that, that, that, that Reggie does something a little
06:18like a tiny thing that I don't even notice that apparently infuriates a texter.
06:22Oh, okay.
06:23I'm just trying to be better for our listenership.
06:25Okay.
06:26All right.
06:261% better every day.
06:27I just did.
06:28I just want you to know, I wasn't texting the text line saying this.
06:32Sure.
06:32So that you would see it.
06:33I didn't, I didn't take this to you.
06:34You've got my number.
06:35That's, that's actually my answer to the question of the day is Sean Penner.
06:38Hey, uh, you know, what's funny.
06:41What a boring life.
06:42That's right.
06:43That's correct.
06:44This is one of my favorite stories about Bun B just being a cool dude is,
06:48is, uh, I ran into Bun B cause I'm going through my contacts here and I got to the
06:52B's and Bun B is by far the biggest one in my B's that I've come through.
06:55But, uh, I was at a grocery store and I ran into Bun B and he and I were just
06:59kind of
06:59chatting with each other and we walked over checking out at the same time and he checked
07:03out before me and you know, he and I were just chatting the whole time and he left and
07:08the, the cashier is a young woman looked at me and she's like, is that, is that Bun B?
07:15And I was like, yeah.
07:16She's like, I, I just moved here.
07:19This doesn't happen all the time to me.
07:22That's great.
07:24Yeah.
07:24That is great.
07:25And you know, but the coolest thing about him was like, you would never, he was just
07:28so, you know, you see Bun B out in nature and he's just, uh, he's just a guy.
07:33Yeah.
07:33Just, he's the average guy at a grocery store.
07:36You wouldn't know it.
07:36She was having a hard time because he was just wearing, you know, shorts and a t-shirt
07:40and not putting on airs or anything, not spitting any bars.
07:44I just, I just did a thing with my contacts in light of this question where I said, you
07:49know, I don't want to do this thing.
07:49Like where you just spin the wheel and see like what, like I, so I spun my contacts to
07:55see, to have it land on just a group.
07:56And I'm like, do I have a famous person in these?
07:59Who's the most famous person in these 20 people that my spin the wheel just landed on?
08:03Right.
08:03Um, there's, boy, there's at least one name on here that would infuriate everybody that
08:07I won't, it landed on the D's and the E's, the end of the D's beginning of the E's.
08:11Oh, I know what name we're talking about.
08:13Well, I'm not going to say that.
08:14Marcus Dupree.
08:16Remember Marcus Dupree?
08:18He was a stud.
08:18He was a stud.
08:19Yeah.
08:19I think I interviewed him at one point.
08:20I think Wallace Marsh probably got me that phone number.
08:22Cause he's an OU guy.
08:23Yeah.
08:24Marcus Dupree.
08:25What he's doing.
08:26Is he still with us?
08:27Boy, that's a good question.
08:28I should know that since he's a close personal friend of mine on my phone.
08:32Text him.
08:32Yeah.
08:33You alive?
08:34That is honestly, I'm surprised we didn't get to that place at this point.
08:38I was holding it to myself and just like, all right, now call him up.
08:41Right.
08:42Now let's get him on the, let's, let me check and see.
08:45No, still with us.
08:45Yeah.
08:4661 years old.
08:47You'd love to see.
08:48Text him like Seth.
08:48Congratulations.
08:49Yeah.
08:49Yeah.
08:51Right.
08:52No.
08:53Honestly, why do I have Juan Beltran's?
08:56Yeah.
08:57I've got Michael Bennett's number and I can't ever remember even talking to Michael Bennett.
09:00Do you have Juan Beltran or Carlos Beltran?
09:03It's not Carlos Beltran, but I think it's Juan Beltran, the MMA fighter.
09:09There's a Juan Beltran that used to work in media here in Houston.
09:12Okay.
09:13All right.
09:13Okay.
09:13That's it.
09:14He was a short dude that hung around with David Nuno all the time.
09:16Michael Bennett.
09:16I think I was going to interview him once and I think I got his number from his dad who
09:20listens to our station.
09:21Yes.
09:21Yeah.
09:22Yeah.
09:22I got the Bennett's in there.
09:23I just did the spin thing.
09:25What did it land on?
09:26Let's see.
09:26It's landed.
09:27Well, I got to spin it again because I was just on the B's.
09:29I got the, well, actually I've got the D's.
09:33Okay.
09:34Let's see if I got anybody on the D's.
09:35D's nuts.
09:36I got him.
09:38Yeah.
09:39Yes.
09:42Nobody exciting.
09:43Okay.
09:43Nobody exciting.
09:44All right.
09:45That's surprising.
09:45Okay.
09:46Well, thus ends the name dropping.
09:47Brad said we probably sputtered out on this.
09:49Yeah.
09:49Yeah.
09:50Yeah.
09:50So we're done.
09:51We are out of time.
09:52Oh, I got Sammy Davis.
09:53Sammy Davis?
09:54Yeah.
09:55Okay.
09:55Call him.
09:56See what happens.
