Seth and Sean react to some of what Ben Solak and Nate Tice had to say about CJ Stroud in excercises where they drafted him and if the Texans are handling his potential extension the right way in waiting.
Transcript
00:00so this was benjamin solak um this is a bit of a long cut and it gets super nerdy but
00:07i think it's
00:08interesting because this is how some of the national people are looking at cj stroud he and
00:12mina kimes did a a draft of quarterbacks on i'm guessing her podcast and it was quarterbacks for
00:20the next three years that what it was okay yeah yeah yeah if you're still if you haven't blocked
00:25dove yet you've been misled into thinking that they ranked their uh um dove cleman who i i just
00:31encourage everybody to block because it's garbage and he misrepresents things and everything he put
00:36it down as mina kimes rankings and it was actually a draft for the next three years um so like
00:42matt
00:43stafford wasn't taken high because who knows where he'll be two years from now interesting okay
00:47interesting so that's so okay well that that provide thank you for noticing that and that
00:52provide some context for this this is solak on where he's drafting cj stroud stroud stroud and
00:59trev that i've got here where but what order what order very similar age right stroud is 24.6
01:0524.6 very similar in terms of some career arc messiness trevor started terrible had a really
01:12good season went back down now a great year with liam cohen cj stroud great season 2024 no good bob
01:16so expired much better than 25 but then the playoffs like there's just both of them feel like uh like
01:21ekg quarterbacks right big peaks low valleys and and it's tough to calibrate to them i will i have
01:27stroud above him and i'll i'll take stroud here i think that stroud's 2025 was a lot better than
01:33people realize it is colored and tainted by how poor he was in the postseason 10 turnovers in two
01:38games terrible if you look at it been an e paper drop back perspective in a success rate perspective
01:42stroud had equivalent numbers in 2025 to his rookie season in 2023 when we all crowned him as the next
01:47guy
01:47he's gonna be the fifth best quarterback in the league for the next decade in that rookie year it
01:51was all about explosives right they were a play action team he was hit in the middle of the field
01:55hard and they were creating these big gains not nearly as many explosives in this past season
01:59but nick caley would ask him to do more in terms of you know reading out quick game half field
02:04stuff
02:04getting to the correct ids and stroud is an aggressive thrower he throws on time between zones he places the
02:09ball correctly he asks his receivers to make big plays for him and they've got the right bodies for
02:13that nico collins jaden taking some of these big catch guys and so he will be consistently
02:17correct for you he has a couple of games that lions game sticks out where like his head just
02:22really starts spinning he unspools a little more quickly you'd like him to but in general he is
02:26really really consistent getting the ball where it's supposed to go on some of the basic half
02:30field quick game stuff and then on the more the play action shot play stuff the thing for me is
02:34the
02:34texans running game since stroud has entered the league is 31st in epa per rush and an internal
02:39success rate only the raiders are worse so stroud sees more third and longs per game than any
02:44quarterback starter over the last few years tim and caleb williams the only two to see like
02:47seven third and longs per game if you can and stroud in his in his rookie season saw tons of
02:52base defense that's all down he saw tons of single high that's all down if you can reintroduce a healthy
02:57rushing attack to houston shot will look more like the quarterback we expected him to be so i'll take
03:01him here and i think he yeah he took him at 12 so there you go he's 12th and this
03:05is with three year
03:05outlooks yeah on these quarterbacks with um well and the whole thing too about it with stroud is that
03:11you know um brandon brandon was on paul galant's podcast uh last week and he made a really good
03:17point it's that people have kind of they've done what we do in sports which is somebody's either
03:22awesome or they're trash and you look at cj stroud and it's no you either pay him right now or
03:28no get
03:28rid of him and trade him away but with stroud the way he performed last year the if you try
03:35to be as
03:35objective about it as possible and just look at the performance on the field without making any
03:40explanations or excuses or anything like by most of the metrics he was anywhere between the 10th to
03:45the 15th best quarterback in the league um like so that's like us an above average but nothing that
03:50you're going to write home about um but that part that missing element of a of a consistent run game
03:57because even when joe mixon was there two years ago joe mixon put up good numbers but we all remember
04:02watching those games there were a lot of games where joe mixon would have 130 yards rushing but it did
04:08not
04:08feel like they ran the ball well and it was because there were just too many times where he got
04:12stuffed
04:12in the backfield stuffed in the backfield stuffed in the backfield then he'd break off a long run
04:16but that's not something you build an offense around so the you know sometimes it's overstated
04:23when people say well you got to run the ball to set up the play action there's a little bit
04:27more
04:27nuance to it you do have to run the ball at least functionally well and you have to not be
04:34stuck in
04:34second and ten you can't be stuck in third and ten because you got stuffed at the line of scrimmage
04:40on one of the first two downs so all of that is that it's it's really hard to operate for
04:45any
04:46quarterback including patrick mahomes when you're in third and ten pat mahomes is brilliant especially
04:53even as the offense for kansas city hasn't been that good in the last couple years they get to third
04:58and five you know and then he's awesome at converting those those third third and manageable
05:03situations a third and four especially yeah and and that's not like a backhanded compliment it's
05:09he's really really good at it but any no quarterback is good consistently from third and ten it's just
05:15too hard to convert it's too hard to convert and i think the other thing i would add to that
05:18where cj needs to kind of kind of get back to pre-concussion cj is if you if you're able
05:25to get into
05:26those third and short situations he had shown for a pretty good period there he could use his legs and
05:31convert on those right right well and that's and you know in where that helps you out in the passing
05:36game as well just when a defense has to respect the quarterback's rushing ability that's right that
05:41that just puts a little bit of hesitancy into the defense and you know for those of you didn't hear
05:46we talked about this because i went back a couple weeks ago and kind of i watched all every one
05:49of cj
05:50stroud's runs this year and you know the numbers about how seldom he ran after his concussion he was
05:56averaging one yard per carry on 17 carries right there's 19 carries for 20 yards 19 carries for 20
06:03yards so uh uh a little bit over one yard per carry yeah but then in going back and watching
06:09the
06:09cut-ups of all his runs it was kind of startling to me that oh wow it and the vast
06:14majority of any of
06:15the yardage he did gain was from uh qb sneaks yeah uh you know or the or it was a
06:21healthy dose
06:21of it and his scrambles were really pedestrian he just you know he'd scramble out of bounds three
06:27yards past the line of scrimmage yeah um i don't yeah i don't need him to turn into one of
06:31the
06:31one of the most frequently rushing quarterbacks in the nfl or anything but just getting back to
06:37where he was before his concussion if he's the 12th best quarterback and we're going to play a
06:42nate tice cut here in a second it seems like they did a similar exercise uh on on a on
06:47a show with
06:48with nate tice of yahoo um if he's the 12th best quarterback cj by whatever measurement you measure
06:55that sort of thing and he carries that performance into the postseason and he's whatever the equivalent
07:00of the 12th best quarterback in the league in the postseason he's going to get paid because that's
07:05going to be good enough for the texans to get to the super bowl he just can't be the 29th
07:10best
07:10quarterback in the playoffs like he was last year the third honestly in that patriots game he he was
07:16not even he didn't even play like one of the top 32 quarterbacks yeah you know that that's the
07:21other part too i think when it comes to either public perception about cj or whatever it might be
07:25i think that i it's it's starting to feel weird to me now that so many people have latched onto
07:34this
07:34year's playoffs and completely and totally ignored some of his really impressive performances in
07:41previous playoffs the you know we'll go to the chargers game specifically and and yes his that
07:47was at home you know the browns were that was at home it's in the first round all of that
07:51uh but that
07:52there is like there's nothing i can do to say oh yeah whatever he did this year in the playoffs
07:59is exactly who he is as a quarterback and that's all there is to it like i just i can't
08:04do that
08:04because i know i've seen him including i would include the chiefs game two years ago in kansas
08:10city in cold weather where i thought when on a night when the officials were letting the chiefs
08:16defensive backs do whatever they wanted to nico collins just basically all but wrestle him to the
08:21ground out on his routes um i thought cj did some really good things in that game everything fell apart
08:26in the fourth quarter the protection and the blitzes and everything just got to the entire offense
08:29but it's not like he's gone out there and just been a miserable mess every time he's been in the
08:35playoffs there's just there's it's impossible for me to not think about the concussion and everything
08:44else that went into the lead up into the playoffs this year and just wonder if it was either
08:49psychological or emotional weather obviously but it's more than that um that it was i'd love to
08:56hopefully be able to look back on it a couple years and be like wow wow that was a turning
09:00point
09:00but that was a that really was a low moment but it wasn't indicative of who cj stroud is right
09:05he grew
09:05from it you know he was able to you know he he was able to you know learn from failure
09:10learn from
09:11some adversity i mean that's the other part too uh the just like i don't want to you know casually
09:16discuss the concussion like oh yeah he's just got to get over that it was his second concussion
09:21yeah like he's missed time now in three seasons he's missed games twice with concussions and like
09:28that's like it's given his performance in the playoffs it's impossible to not wonder okay is
09:35this going to have long will this have long-standing effects of the way how he operates and manages
09:40himself in his career it's fair to wonder he acted the first concussion he came back and played well
09:45right the second you're right this the second concussion not only did he come back and he had
09:50his playoff failure but to your point about the running he played differently yeah you know and
09:54he played he he played in a way he took what was a weapon for him and decided not to
10:00use it anymore
10:01and it seemed like it had a lot to do with the concussion the first concussion it was like one
10:06of
10:06those movie scenes where he gets kicked in the head by a horse and all of a sudden can speak
10:09french
10:10right you know he's just like he came back and he was operating like it like it had uh like
10:16it
10:16had rebooted the computer or something you know because like that's like whacking the tv and all
10:22of a sudden the picture is clear oh yeah yeah yeah like the fonds just hits the wall and the
10:27lights go
10:27on yeah it's uh well back in the day in the old cathode cathode ray days sean i think i
10:33think every
10:33man alive felt like he had a special knack and knew how to get his his tv back oh yeah
10:38just i knew
10:39where to hit her give her a little smack on the backside i actually had a locker in junior high
10:45yeah that i knew exactly where to bang and it would open up yeah the g spot of your locker
10:51it made me
10:51feel it was it was yeah the locker was very satisfied after you i felt like i interrupted
10:55you about to read a text uh oh no no no you're looking at the screen no we're good i'm
11:00no i was
11:00just seeing if anybody's reacting to the cj stuff over here and they are we'll get to it in a
11:04little bit
11:04it's all good i want to play this nate tice um this is nate tice of yahoo
11:08expressing similar sentiments as benjamin solak about cj stroud he has not had any help on offense
11:16and i know he has nico collins and i know we can talk about the offensive system that he was
11:20in
11:20his career under slowick but this guy has just been under pressure a ton and also has probably the
11:26worst run game um around him uh when he's been on the field on just running back runs so it's
11:312023 so
11:32the last three years there's 65 quarterbacks that have or that qualified for the little stats i looked
11:37up i don't know how much i looked up there was 65 the texans when he was on the field
11:41of rank 62nd and
11:43running back rushing success rate and he so he's just always behind the sticks always has to be
11:48aggressive he be his own enemy sometimes with how aggressive he is but i do think that this is
11:53finally going to solidify he shaved his head too so maybe we get evil cj stroud this year yeah i'm
12:00pretty off the mystic on him he's always kind of i mean skinny so it's you know he looks like
12:07swole
12:07it's swole cj stroud that's that's the story i mean contract here stroud essentially i'm shocked
12:13people are like you're going to extend him yes i'm going to extend him yes i've called him a locked
12:17in top 16 guy i take him at 15 here i value him a little bit higher than this i
12:21mean not saying top 10
12:22but top 12 12 13 ish yeah but yeah cj stroud my 15th pick okay so they're doing it i
12:27think that's a
12:28there's a little more conventional draft where they're just drafting guys for this year 15th
12:32overall so that's you you nailed it he's i think i think 10th or 15th by epa and all these
12:39other
12:39advanced stats is about where cj fell last year uh the the performance against the patriots and the
12:45steelers is painting a lot of people's opinions of him i think certainly here locally with a big
12:49faction of the fan base but i think that's that doesn't feel unfair those two drafts that they did
12:55with cj with where he's at right now and he's got to build on both of those things he needs
12:59to be
12:59better than both of those i think dj b anime uh was on paul galant's podcast as well galant says
13:05yeah
13:05give him paul's podcast i know man that's yeah well when dj had made a point about like okay if
13:11you
13:11if you kind of extrapolate cj's stats out where does he land if if you include the three and a
13:18half games
13:18that he missed because of a concussion so like to give a better feel because sometimes people look at
13:22the stats look at the total passing yards and oh i see and it doesn't you know it's hard to
13:27figure
13:27out exactly so like if he played 17 games yeah if he played 17 games like what would that season
13:32have
13:33looked like so i went and i extrapolated them yeah i bet and i just did three and a half
13:37games
13:38basically because he you know missed the was in the first quarter the second quarter it was in the
13:44first half i know that i think it was yeah i just had three and a half i mean he
13:47would have been
13:47seventh and yards 13th and touchdowns would have been tied with aaron rogers who i think we all
13:52universally agree was an incredible quarterback but no he would have been 13th and touchdowns
13:58and then the the stats that remain the same just because they're percentages or whatever yeah um
14:02he was 17th and passer rating he was 12th and qbr yeah uh epa per drop back he was in
14:08the i want
14:09to say depending on which epa you're looking at he was like 10th to 12th or whatever and so that's
14:14right i keep trying to fact check myself and and keep the proper frame of reference and none of
14:20those qbr type stats or anything are perfect but pretty consistently they're between 10th to 17th
14:26in the nfl in a year where i think he was consciously trying to be more conservative because of the
14:33game
14:33situations the way the defense was operating like he matured a lot as a quarterback and it wasn't going
14:39to be eye-popping stats but and it also wasn't i think people have reframed it in their mind like
14:45he was playing like a horrible quarterback and he just flat out wasn't no no no and i think this
14:49is
14:49it's interesting you bring that up because as you rattle off those numbers and where he's ranking i'm
14:54thinking about the contract situation again and two years ago that would have been good enough
15:01in in what the nfl the way the nfl was treating quarterbacks all those things you just said and add
15:07in
15:07the fact that he's won a playoff game in each of those each of his first three seasons which
15:11certainly kyler murray nor trevor lawrence nor to a tongue of ialoa could say those guys all got paid
15:17with lesser performance than cj stroud and it gets me to thinking about how that's where it appears the
15:24texans and cj are going this offseason which i don't think there's going to be a contract for him
15:28we know there's a lot of gms out there that they get upset with nick casario about how he handles
15:33contract negotiations that maybe he gives in a little too much and resets the market a little
15:38too high you know the the guaranteed boy they were really angry about that fully guaranteed contract
15:43for jayden higgins when it was actually going to be already guaranteed like 92 or something like that
15:49boy the other gms got mad the other gms around the league should be very happy with how the texans
15:53are handling the cj stroud situation purely from a statistical standpoint yeah they're they are they
16:00they are treating a quarterback who by almost every measurement has been better three years
16:06into his career than trevor lawrence kyler murray two and then two got his contract after year four
16:13i get it kyler and trevor are the two big ones they are they are they are not treating him
16:19the same as
16:19those organizations treated those two guys those guys got paid top of market contracts and the texans
16:24appear to be holding off on doing that the league should be happy that the texans are doing it this
16:30way i honestly i was thinking about this the other day as i was mowing the lawn um it's that
16:35uh which
16:36by the way we're almost in the season where seth's done mowing his own lawn it's uh that is a
16:40winter
16:40only thing um the the this is the thing the i completely forgot what were you what are you talking
16:49about before the contract the cj stroud oh okay as far as uh nfl contracts yeah thank god um as
16:55far
16:55as nfl contracts go yeah i do think i think things have stabilized a little bit yeah i think we're
16:59we
17:00are out of the era of my god i got to do anything possible i will sell my family away
17:06to get a
17:06quarterback on this team i think that things have stabilized a bit and the fervor and the gold rush
17:12with quarterbacks has come down where you know look it's tom brady in tampa bay sure it's tom
17:20brady but they didn't draft tom brady they didn't have to draft the quarterback to get to the super
17:23bowl the rams have a quarterback that they traded for the seahawks have sam freaking darnold the that
17:31and so that just comes to you don't have to spend a top five draft pick on a guy to
17:35get a guy that
17:35can win you a super bowl yeah but then with the contracts themselves too i think enough teams have
17:39been burned by just feeling like we got to pay this guy because what's going to happen if we don't
17:44yeah well if you don't and it works out all right then you're gonna have to pay him a little
17:48bit more
17:48yeah but if it and if it or if it does work out if it does work out and he's
17:53really good you got to
17:53pay him a little bit more yeah and if he doesn't if he doesn't work out then all right we
17:59we take
17:59another crack at it yeah we find our sam darnold or we find our aging quarterback um you know we
18:05figure out a way to trade for a matt stafford yeah well the texans are the first ones
18:08in a while to take this stance with a quarterback where there's some sort of question about whether
18:14he should get a contract because if you look at the the draft class from two years ago you know
18:19kyler murray or kyler murray was 2019 he got his after three years probably by today's standards
18:26probably didn't deserve it trevor lawrence definitely didn't deserve a 55 million dollar
18:31year contract after three years hell they were picking in the top five or six in the draft
18:35that offseason where he got that extension and he got it there was the only one in the 2022 class
18:41of
18:41quarterbacks ironically that deserved even being in that conversation was the last player picked in
18:46the draft which was brock purdy he got paid yeah and so that now we're into the 2023 class which
18:53is
18:53cj basically it's cj and bryce young that's it and and the texans are the texans are taking it
18:59it appears taking a stand with cj which the niners and the jags and the cardinals didn't have the
19:06stomach or testicular fortitude to take with their quarterbacks the league should be the league should
19:12be really happy that the texans are doing this with cj stroud and not setting a precedent that well
19:18we just blanket got to pay the guy after three years no you're trying to win super bowls man and
19:23he's not been good enough to win a super bowl yet right so um and then the yeah those guys
19:27from
19:28last year's draft class you know that's where it'll get interesting is next year yes jayden
19:32daniels and caleb williams both have really good years this year then all of a sudden you're in a
19:36position where okay quarterbacks are probably about to get paid because those guys will be eligible to
19:41get their extensions next year yes the one thing that the dac is getting dac is getting jumped next
19:46offseason yeah in 2027 yeah but things have been kind of stagnant in terms of top end dollars and
19:51i think that the advantage the texans have is that if they do decide to extend cj stroud next year
19:57they can do that at any point of the year whereas like they could do it they could do it
20:03in february
20:03and be first in and then those the kyler william or kyle uh caleb williams and uh jayden daniels have
20:12to wait until the league year begins in march to to get an extension so like i feel like if
20:17the texans
20:17want to extend cj this is when exactly when casario would be aggressive he would get in he'd get he'd
20:23get a potentially a a record-breaking contract which would be surpassed immediately yeah with
20:30the next quarterback yep yep the yeah the texans are if cj deserves it they're going to try to get
20:35on it early no question about it and and by the way the other advantage the texans have seth that
20:40that in that instance when you bring caleb williams and jayden daniels you know i'll pull
20:45bo nix in there as well drake may obviously went to a super bowl those guys are all in that
20:49class
20:50they literally those teams literally can't do anything until march like they they're not allowed
20:58to do anything because because they're not it's three years you can't do it until the the start
21:02of the league year after their third year if the texans are seeing a version of cj stroud during the
21:06regular season this year that they feel like is worthy of you know they could do a contract at any
21:11time nick will do a contract at any time so they do have that luxury that they're not
21:15constricted by the cba of giving it they can give it cj a deal tomorrow if they wanted to
21:20they could do it in week 13 next year i think most texan fans would rather they wait till after
21:24the
21:24playoffs are over to see what cj looks like in the postseason but even then you've got from the end
21:29of the postseason until the beginning of march to get a deal done before the bears go give caleb
21:35williams 65 or 70 million a year or something like that and reset the market yeah you know so um
21:41yeah so there's there's that um text message to people weighing in on cj of course you wouldn't
21:45handle cj's contract situation like kyler or tua because those clearly failed that hasn't stopped
21:51other nfl teams from doing this before i feel like yeah i don't know yeah other like trevor lawrence
21:58they did it with trevor lawrence yeah um i mean that was trevor lawrence has fallen out of the debate
22:02for now yeah he's got he's got one and a half feet out of the debate for now but they
22:07extended
22:08trevor lawrence and after his third year to it wasn't after his third year it was after his
22:12fourth year but he had those extreme concussion concerns and everything um yeah like it's worked
22:17out for some of the quarterbacks it obviously hasn't worked out pat mahomes totally worked out
22:22with that now ben that's a whole different pat mahomes is a different story because he'd already
22:25won a super bowl and had already been a mvp and everything yeah yeah yeah um josh allen josh allen
22:31got his after his third year right i believe so yeah yeah and he did not have a great first
22:35three
22:35years to his career he yeah you know what he definitely did he he got it after his third year
22:39because 20 the covid years when he started figuring things out so i'm pretty sure he got figured out
22:44that he had stephan diggs to throw to yeah yeah yeah yeah so um so yeah i think he got
22:49his after
22:50his third year generally speaking the good ones have gotten it after their their third year but yeah
22:54like that's that's a bit of a silly way to look at it just because that's like saying well this
22:57team
22:57drafted a quarterback first overall and it didn't work why would we ever do that sometimes it does work i
23:02just don't think it's the right thing to do in general again though the question so so for that
23:07person because like there's a lot of dynamics here that's probably annoying for drive time radio yeah
23:10the the reason teams do it was because quarterback salaries were escalating so rapidly that it felt
23:19like teams felt like all right if this guy ends up being what we hope he is we're gonna end
23:25up having
23:25to pay 10 20 million dollars more per year if we kick it down the road too far and they
23:31want it so
23:32they hedged and said okay let's give him the contract now and then we've got we can plan and
23:37forecast and all that that that environment has changed like quarterback quarterback salaries are
23:43not escalating as rapidly as they had been before so there's also less incentive to do it now it's
23:48easy to sit right now and say of course i wouldn't do that why bother when you're gonna you're only
23:52gonna
23:52have to pay him five million more per year next year that's it's because it's a it's it's more team
23:57friendly right now yep and in the quarterback negotiation environment yep um here was trent
24:03brown texans uh texans offensive tackle he was on teron armstead's uh podcast on his youtube channel
24:11and uh teron armstead now retired offensive tackle so they were just chopping it up have a little tackle
24:16talk on there and trent brown was talking about uh making his decision to come to the texans last year
24:22as a as a head coach as a leader is he the guy that can get this team across the
24:26finish line to
24:27the super bowl because you've done that you've been there you've you've seen it you know i mean like
24:32and i i strongly believe in i'm a fan of domico ron but how how strongly do you feel about
24:37him as
24:38head coach well you know last offseason when we first started communicating about me coming to the
24:43texans or signing with the texans but i told him that i was i was a fan from afar and
24:47i'll be glad to
24:48go to war with him you know i mean i do think he's the the coach to get us to
24:52the finish line bro
24:53the energy the way he shows up to work every day you know i mean the accountability he holds
24:58everybody accountable it doesn't it don't look like bill belichick but he holds everybody accountable
25:02and and from coaches on down you know what i mean like nobody nobody is above reprimanding and so
25:09um i think without a doubt bro he's the the man for the job you know what i mean um
25:16like hell he's he he even getting drills like offensive drills he getting in like you know
25:21i mean you could do screen drill you do stuff on air like he'll get over there and give us
25:24a look
25:24and uh like bro he work out every day he's still insane he still look like he can play
25:29you know i mean so i think bro he without a doubt he's a man for the job i like
25:33i like that cut
25:34obviously because it's uh you know the gushing about domico ryan's is always fun the thing at the
25:39end there seth i felt validated at the end where trent brown brought up domico ryan's
25:43peak physical condition that he's in yeah i brought that up the other day as a reason why
25:48players probably there's a an exceedingly high belief level in domico's he's not one of these
25:53guys yelling at you about your discipline oh yeah that if he's telling you that he's got a
25:57body fat a little bit yeah yeah i uh okay i'll listen to this guy right i'll listen to this
26:03guy
26:03he puts the work in well i know we've we talked about this a while back we're trying to figure
26:07out
26:08who are really the out of shape football coaches anymore yeah the the head football coaches and it's hard
26:13to find them really i mean mike mc and they're old like andy reed and mike mccarthy yep yeah and
26:17nobody else jumps to mind i mean you look at todd monck and he's an older guy but man you
26:21know like
26:21his bmi is probably right there where it should be oh yeah probably once could probably could run a 5k
26:25if he wanted to yeah they look like 5k runners yeah even the older guys who aren't necessarily new
26:30age fit are still it's uh it's changed i noticed that the first time uh when the 49ers came for
26:36a joint
26:37practice back in like 2000 it was i can remember i saw domico and talked to him so it was
26:42the first
26:42year whatever his first year was as a quality control guy it was 2017 it's 2017 i remember looking
26:48around at the texans coaches and then looking at the 49ers coaches you brought this up before
26:53i'm like uh please listen this ain't it this uh
26:58there's no way in hell the texans are gonna be as good as the 49ers yeah look at these guys
27:02they got self-respect and everything that was shanahan's first year as a head coach and he
27:07looked like he had gotten together like just like a an olympic track team of some sort i think
27:12there's uh i think those standards have changed which back in the day it wouldn't matter as much
27:16we're now because people are so much more fitness oriented and everything i think you look at it if
27:21you look at a group of fat sloppy stereotypical football coaches you think these guys aren't paying
27:28attention to detail like this is just not known this is just shouldn't be the way it's done right
27:32i feel like if you look at a staff and even the like most of the guys are super fit
27:37but even the
27:37bigger guys are kind of yoked like cole popovich is yoked yes and uh there's something about that
27:43i go back to when i was a player we had a joint practice versus the raiders and this isn't
27:47like we
27:48were good at the time as the texans but i remember looking at the raiders and being like i don't
27:51know if
27:52this is a football coaching staff or a bunch of old mobsters yeah it looked like honestly if you
27:58made me guess if you just put them all in uh and uh in in uh track suits or something
28:05right right
28:05right there's no way i would have guessed football coaches sopranos cast these guys are mobsters that's
28:10funny they should be sitting uh they should be sitting outside of a sausage shop somewhere that's
28:14hilarious yeah yeah i'm telling you man i think it matters trim brown just said it matters okay so you
28:20know we talk about how things have stabilized with the quarterback market and josh allen it was after his
28:24third year they extended him and he still has at least the way spot track uh tracks it that that
28:32contract which was signed in um oh wait never mind because they they tweaked his never mind that
28:38doesn't count who's i was thinking about the guaranteed money but the guaranteed money hasn't
28:42like risen all that dramatically well except for deshaun back through right yeah deshaun doesn't count
28:47everybody was chasing deshaun for like four years i remember i remember when deshaun signed that
28:52contract it 230 million fully guaranteed i think the next highest guarantee at the time was like in
28:57the low 100s and you and i were sitting here going how many quarterbacks is it going to take
29:02yeah to actually catch up like how many guys are gonna have to sign deals until we get and i
29:07think
29:08we're caught up to him now i think well it's uh i think dak caught him finally talk about practical
29:12guarantees which is like basically the amount of money in the first couple years where it's impossible
29:17for the team to get rid of you definitely not drive time friendly yeah yeah but even if it's not
29:22expressly guaranteed it's okay this team might as well blow up their headquarters and then collect the
29:27insurance money yeah if uh if they try to get out of this contract so yeah the the practical
29:31guarantees are up in the 240 250 sure sure um okay text texter this is middle screen actually an actual
29:39coach i will say it until i'm blue in the face physical stature is all caps so important for head
29:46coaches oh yeah it's been proven time and time again by studies and whatnot yeah physical stature
29:51we like to think that we're more refined than we actually are yeah we make a lot of knee-jerk
29:56decisions based on physical appearance yeah um text message i love this show informative and
30:01entertaining especially the part where seth says a horse kicks somebody in the head and they begin
30:06speaking french yeah that was a good analogy by you that was really good there is a there is some
30:11kind of condition where people have like some kind of neurological trauma and they start
30:15speaking in a foreign accent really yeah yeah which can be dicey because then all of a sudden it
30:20looks like you know it looks like seth's making fun of mexican people yeah does it you know does that
30:24have a name that that affliction i don't know i saw it in family guy episode but i googled it
30:30and it
30:31was a thing hold on that's where seth gets all his medical information i was gonna disclose that i saw
30:38it in a family guy explanation
30:40that's hilarious
