00:00Public Utilities Minister Barry Podaroff says the hardest hit areas across the country for pipe-borne supply of water has
00:09always been southeastern, south and the southwestern peninsula.
00:13The Prime Minister's constituency, according to the data, which is the constituency of Separia, for at least the last 20
00:20years is the most underserved constituency of all 41 constituencies across Trinidad and Tobago.
00:28As such, a pilot project in that constituency was undertaken.
00:59This has allowed the trucking of water within the constituency to increase from four water trucks to now 18.
01:06The Cabinet today has agreed to expand that project into other communities and constituencies.
01:14Those constituencies are Moruga Tablan, Mayaro, Kumoto Manzanilla, and there are future plans for others in the southeastern parts of
01:26the island, which include constituencies such as Naparima and also Sangri Grandi.
01:34Podaroff stressed that tank farms are short-term measures and will cost the state $7.5 million, with an estimated
01:43execution time of six weeks.
01:45Improvement will also come to the east-west corridor.
01:49Aruka Maloney, to be exact, formerly Bonaire West, a constituency held by former Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzalez.
01:59Having failed to deliver upon the completion of the Bonaire Waste Water Treatment Plant, this is a project that has
02:08been identified by WASA, that Cabinet has given its support to through its funding to ensure that we bring this
02:16project to fruition.
02:17The minister also referenced a complaint raised by another former Public Utilities Minister, Korm Imbud, saying many major projects are
02:26being reviewed.
02:27You are also looking at the pumps in Dago Martin, that the member for Dago Martin, what he spoke ad
02:33nauseum about, but did nothing to alleviate the problem, whether he served as Minister of Finance or Minister of Public
02:41Utilities.
02:41And therefore, it was a bit surprising to hear the Honourable Member speak last day in Parliament, knowing that he
02:49sat in a position that would have allowed these projects to come to fruition,
02:55that would have brought relief to constituents and citizens across the north-western part of Trinidad, in particular, in terms
03:04of where he actually serves as a member of Parliament.
03:07In central Trinidad, the Freeport Water Treatment Plant will benefit from a $20 million upgrade.
03:14And finally, three desalination plants will be constructed in Charlottesville, Moruga Tableland and San Fernando.
