00:32Sue Sanchez a newcomer to this
00:34team this year and this was
00:37said by Sanchez yesterday after
00:39last night's win I'll tell you
00:40what the vibes here are
00:42unbelievable I've never been on
00:44a team like this this is
00:45something that they didn't
00:47appear to have two years ago but
00:48boy did they have it last year
00:50and it sure feels like they've
00:52carried it over into this
00:53season and interesting that
00:54this was a top of conversation
00:56a lot last year and here's a
00:58new guy coming in and for a
00:59comment like that in the first
01:00week of the season after
01:02spending most of the spring with
01:03this new club those vibes are
01:05right that's the newcomer
01:08confirming it all well and he
01:11deserves a little bit of credit
01:12too he's got good vibes John
01:13Schneider yeah John Schneider
01:15even joked about him before the
01:16game he was asked what have you
01:17learned about Jesus Sanchez and
01:19his first answer was tongue in
01:20cheek obviously but but he was
01:22being serious well he laughs during
01:24his at bats he's he's always
01:25smiling always laughing even when
01:26he's hitting
01:33top of the order here for
01:34Gossman in the fourth he's nine
01:35up nine down so far and he's got a
01:39good splitter today and good vibes
01:41can mean a lot of things
01:42obviously when you're winning it's
01:44easy to have good vibes and be
01:45happy but a tough loss the other
01:47day these guys can wipe that away
01:49in a second no problem come to the
01:50ballpark the next day and it's a lot
01:52of positive stuff going on in that
01:54clubhouse swing and a miss to get
01:57him one down this is looking very
02:02similar to Kevin's first start when
02:04he had athletic hitters continually
02:06chasing that splitter down in the
02:09zone this time it's Troy Johnston
02:13from three splitters in a row in that
02:15at bat sometimes you will see Gossman
02:21accentuate that splitter a little bit
02:23more against a younger lineup all big
02:27league hitters even if they're young
02:29come to the big leagues probably
02:30feeling hey I can hit a pretty good
02:32fastball but can they handle whatever
02:35that pitcher's best secondary pitch is
02:38obviously that is the splitter for
02:39Gossman and he's had a good one here
02:41today good fastball in first pitch
02:45trying to go away there would have
02:47stuck back to the middle but he gets
02:48the call you can see Goodman the
02:50reaction is a pretty good power hitter
02:52but he's standing there going did I
02:53just miss a fastball right there it's
02:57amazing how when a Gossman throws
02:59basically two pitches the odd slider we
03:01know that but basically two pitchers how
03:03often do we see the hitter telling us
03:06with his facial expression man I was
03:08looking for the other 50-50 chance
03:10yeah a lot of splitters today
03:16he can outstuff them he can also
03:19outthink them he can often do both
03:22a little bit like Max last night right
03:24I mean he's a veteran guy 41 years
03:25old the stuff is still pretty good it's
03:27not what it once was pretty darn good
03:29though but he can pitch
03:43Springer DH-ing so getting a lot more
03:45time last year and early this year
03:47checking out those at bats in the
03:49dugout
03:52count remains one and two
03:56high fastball to even it up
04:10Drew Beterra on the right there next
04:12to Pete Walker
04:15third caught by Okamoto let's go to
04:20Hazel
04:21Dan I actually asked Kevin
04:23Cosman about the clubhouse culture
04:25from last year and how they maintain
04:27it with new faces and he said it's
04:30got to come organically and naturally
04:32you can't force guys to like each other
04:34and be this cohesive unit the good news
04:36though
04:37Gossman says there are core players
04:39from 2025 that have established a
04:42strong foundation in that clubhouse
04:43no question so in Okamoto a cease a
04:46Sanchez
04:48they all appear to be very comfortable
04:49very quickly John Schneider has said
04:51like maybe the culture was created
04:53from the top down but I think the
04:55players own it right now
04:56yeah and you remember that one comment
04:58last year by Bo Bichette he went out
05:00of his way to mention the names
05:02Miles Straw and Ernie Clement and I
05:05thought that was really something
05:06because when you think of leaders on
05:08the team or guys that really are the
05:10ones that try to set that tone
05:12usually it's veteran players we know
05:14George is I'm sure one of those
05:15Gossman some of the pitchers but
05:18those two kind and Ernie's an
05:20everyday player now but for guys like
05:21that to be mentioned that's a that's
05:23a strong comment yep a couple of
05:25strikes on Willie Castro
05:33a good fastball right at the top of
05:36the zone touching 97 six strikeouts
05:41through four perfect innings for Kevin
05:44Gossman rolling here today against
05:47the Rockies
06:12the draft are two okay guys fall it
06:16good
06:23but for some of the bands it'll be
06:29and have a support sprung innings we
06:30they can get up and see if three
06:35joule now we'll do that
06:37have worst start
06:37community
06:59Welcome back.
06:59Jesus Sanchez, due up second here in the home half of the fourth.
07:03And John Schneider sees the Sanchez from his days with the Miami Marlins.
07:07The hitting coaches made a little bit of a mechanical change with Sanchez in terms of
07:12where the barrel is starting.
07:15Schneider just loves the way he's able to fight off pitches and they're giving him the
07:19freedom to take some shots and swing with intent.
07:23Sanchez, according to Schneider, looking comfortable and very competent in that batter's box.
07:29Guys.
07:30Hey, so thank you.
07:31I know you find him very interesting in the batter's box.
07:34I do.
07:34And I think when you talk about that bat angle, oftentimes that change can be made
07:39rather than pointing the bat back behind you.
07:41If you point it more straight up, now you can just turn the barrel back to initiate your
07:47swing.
07:47And we can see with Sanchez, he's a guy, he's a big guy that likes to get into his legs.
07:50But if your bat's pointing back behind you and you decide to swing and you then turn your
07:55back vertically and then you go back, that's a lot of movement.
07:58You could be a little late.
08:00And John Schneider also mentioned it could have been a bit of an organizational philosophy
08:04when he was with Houston.
08:05He was a bit of a different hitter than his Miami days.
08:08And they're trying to get him back to doing what he does best.
08:11He might not necessarily have to be like that line drive hitter.
08:14This is a guy that can kick the ball in the air and do a lot of damage.
08:17That's what they want.
08:17They want the ball going over the fence.
08:19They think there's a lot in there.
08:21To a man, the staff feel that he maybe got away from who he is after the trade to Houston
08:26at the deadline last year.
08:28So they're trying to get him back to just being comfortable and recreating who he was
08:32as a Marlin.
08:34As Clement hooks it down the line foul.
08:36And to be, you know, to be clear and fair, he's never been a star.
08:40But he has been a good productive player who people have always said, boy, the ceiling's
08:45pretty high.
08:46If he can figure it out and get the most out of his ability, there's a lot in there.
08:50And that's a little bit of a track record now.
08:51He's been doing it for longer than some other guys.
08:54So kind of know what you're getting and hoping for more.
08:58Tovar out at short will throw out Clement.
09:06So one down here, bottom four.
09:08And here comes Sanchez, who hit a deep fly ball to left.
09:11Caught by Beck back in the second inning.
09:17As we talked about the last couple of days, the lineup looks like it'll be fluid this year.
09:24You produce, you play.
09:25John Schneider uses the phrase they want to, quote, out-team the other team.
09:31Whoops.
09:32Curve ball.
09:34So no intent, obviously, and Sanchez knows that.
09:38That one getting away from Freeland, and Sanchez looks okay.
09:51He used to call that a curveball that didn't curve.
09:54Just spun out of his hand, and he never really got the fingers on those seams to pull down and
10:00get it to rotate.
10:01Hit him right in the two of his number 12 in his back.
10:04So he's at first with one out.
10:06And here's Straw, who had a base hit and has scored the only run of the ball game.
10:18He's at first with one out.
10:20He's at first with one out.
10:24Lots of day games going on.
10:26A lot of getaway days here today, including the Blue Jays' next opponent, the White Sox,
10:30who are trailing the Marlins 8-0 in the top of the fourth inning in Miami.
10:38Assuming the White Sox lose that game, they will be 1-5 when they have their home opener against the
10:43Blue Jays,
10:44which, again, is now on Friday.
10:45Tomorrow's game has already been postponed.
10:48Friday was an off day.
10:49They moved it from Thursday to Friday afternoon in the hopes that the weather is better Friday.
10:54There's no guarantee.
10:59Friday and Saturday both look kind of dicey.
11:02Sunday very cold but clear.
11:04But they're going to try to get one in Friday, one Saturday, one Sunday.
11:17Out off by Straw.
11:20See, they're continuing to try to come in on Miles.
11:22He had the base hit earlier on a cutter in on his hands.
11:26But they are trying to challenge him on the inside part of the plate.
11:32By the way, that 8-0 game for the Marlins.
11:35Shane Smith, very young pitcher, but he's their number one, their opening day starter.
11:38He is getting knocked around badly today.
11:41One of the pitchers the Blue Jays will see is a former Blue Jays, Anthony Kaye,
11:46who went to Japan and has come back and was signed, I think, to a two-year deal, I believe,
11:51by the White Sox.
11:52And he is in their rotation.
11:54A couple years overseas.
12:02To right field, and it's dropping for a base hit.
12:06And the Blue Jays have two men on with one out.
12:13Keep doing it, Miles.
12:15He gets a chance to play.
12:16And when you want to give Dalton Varsha a day off,
12:18and you can slide this guy into center field.
12:20Gold glove defense and throw a couple knocks out there as well while you're at it.
12:31So, first and second, one out, and here's Jimenez.
12:36Different situation, but tried to bunt last time up.
12:38Couldn't get it done.
12:39Eventually struck out.
12:41Now he's looking into Jordan, looking to drive in a guy or two.
12:47This is a good time for Jimenez to really bear down.
12:50He had told me earlier this season, last week,
12:52that he's really working on focusing on the middle of the field,
12:55trying to stay on that ball and really let the ball travel, let it get deeper.
12:59Left-handed hitters will especially do that against left-handed pitchers,
13:02so there's a perfect opportunity for him to put that into practice.
13:08Good swing.
13:09Yep.
13:09Powel back, 0-2.
13:12He does have a fluid, good-looking swing, right?
13:17And when he connects, you watch the replays and you go, wow, that's a great-looking swing,
13:21but offense at times has been a struggle for him.
13:42O2.
13:44O2.
13:45High in the air to left, not deep.
13:49Beck, the catch, two down.
13:55it's a good swing right there by Jimenez it's a good at bat it's a it's a tough result it
14:00looks
14:00like an innocent fly ball to left field but he had some good swings in this at bat and he
14:04looks
14:05like he thinks he got a pitch to hit even though it was 0-2 just couldn't capitalize
14:16not too often you're going to face the lefty and get three pitches right there in the zone to hit
14:22so here's Springer a strikeout and a walk so far today for George
14:43and a half curveball there one and one
14:54Freeland up over 70 pitches already through three and two thirds the Blue Jays have had some traffic but just
15:00the one run
15:17and if you're just joining us as you may be able to tell it is school day here at the
15:21ballpark today
15:22you can hear them big crowd fun crowd lots of buses outside
15:33that's as good a school day as you can have when the parents get uh you know an email home
15:39saying hey
15:41next Wednesday we're taking the whole gang to the ballpark make sure they've got their color
15:47coordinated t-shirts on that beats the heck out of a day at school oh my this is an education
15:56I think you can make a I think you can make that case oh first there's a lot of learning
16:00going on here
16:01today yeah just like a field trip to the museum yeah maybe yeah why did he try to bunt there
16:08why did
16:09he throw to that base what should he do in this camp these are life lessons
16:15looks like some moms and dads got out of work today too chaperones
16:22boy the big breaking ball to get springer freeland is making pitches
16:27when he has to to keep the rockies in this game
16:36so
16:39and the family of the children
16:40who's not the distance,
16:42and the number of 60 people
16:43is the first time to reach the right,
16:46right, 400 and 435.
16:48And you can go over now,
16:50and you can go over here.
16:51And this is Mr. Mayor,
16:53and he can be in the draw.
16:55And those he eyes are not
16:56and he can be in the draw.
16:59And Mr. Mayor,
17:01and he can be there,
17:02and he can be in the draw.
17:05And he can be in the draw.
17:38Well, next Tuesday is the anniversary, April 7th, of the first ever Blue Jays game back in 1977.
17:46This is the 50th year of Blue Jays baseball, and on this special Looney Dogs night,
17:51celebrate the past 50 years with a special commemorative ticket available to the first 15,000 fans
17:57and a nice tribute here to 1977.
18:00Looney Dogs are going to be just 77 cents.
18:03Get your tickets at BlueJays.com slash tickets.
18:13That'll be the Dodgers in town for that game.
18:16Kevin Gaussman, second in the majors this decade in strikeouts, and a new teammate of his is number one.
18:24Well, Dylan C. showed that in his first start in a Blue Jays uniform.
18:27Kevin has been doing it for a long time.
18:29Those strikeouts have come down a bit the last couple of seasons,
18:32but he might be up to something this year again because he's up to his old tricks,
18:36what he was doing to the A's in the home opener here in Toronto.
18:40That splitter is diving down.
18:42We saw Dylan Cease with an electric fastball, slider to go with it.
18:46Filthy stuff.
18:47So he'll get the start Friday in the White Sox home opener again tomorrow.
18:52Postponed.
18:52It'll now play Friday.
18:53Of course, he's pitched for the White Sox, and now he'll start their home opener.
18:58It's where it all started for him.
18:59That's right.
19:00Yeah, well, drafted by the Cubs, but traded into the minors.
19:07He always changes you swing and a miss, one and one.
19:25Kevin Gossman with 11 strikeouts against the A's and six already today.
19:30So 17 in his first two starts of the season that has tied the Blue Jay record set by Jay
19:37Hap in 2017.
19:43So one more and he breaks it.
19:45There have been a lot of strikeout records tied or set by the Blue Jay starters, Blue Jay staff in
19:54the first week of the season.
20:01Inside, it's full.
20:10T.J. Rumfield on deck. Ezekiel Tovar grounded out in the second.
20:19Foul it off.
20:23Gosman has been so good and so dominant here this afternoon.
20:26It feels like a better than a 1-0 lead.
20:29Blue Jays have had some chances against Kyle Freeland but have only been able to cash in the one.
20:48Kevin has that good ride on the fastball, especially at the top of the zone.
20:55That gives the illusion of almost rising to the hitter a little bit late.
21:01Got that splitter a little bit further up maybe than he wanted to.
21:04Tovar, though, couldn't do anything with it.
21:05Fouls it off.
21:10A lot of young guys hoping to bring the Rockies back to respectability.
21:14Lost 119 games a year ago in the brief time we've seen them.
21:19Certainly do appear to be a more competitive team.
21:23Hit hard but well fouled.
21:24Hit hard.
21:29Hit hard.
21:34Warren Schaefer getting rave reviews for kind of the culture and the vibes that he has helped create.
21:41You can sense that in his meetings with the media, too.
21:44Very positive guy.
21:45Looking in one direction right now for his club.
21:49Tovar having a pretty good at-bat
21:51making Kevin Gossman throw a lot of pitches.
21:53That's ten already.
21:54Kyle Freeland, one of several veteran pitchers
21:57on the staff for the Rockies.
21:59It's a rather young lineup.
22:01And we saw Max Scherzer do a good job
22:04against a very good young lineup last night.
22:08The veteran against the kids.
22:10And Tovar is going to win the battle.
22:12What an at-bat for Ezekiel Tovar.
22:15Lining one into left for a base hit on pitch number 11.
22:21Went to the slider, was trying a lot of fastballs, splitters.
22:25It's like the first slider they threw in the at-bat.
22:29Started them off with one, but it's been a long time.
22:37Tovar can run.
22:38And the Rockies have been aggressive so far this season.
22:44Runfield with a little dribbler left side.
22:46Okamoto shovels to second for the out
22:49as they will force the lead runner.
22:52So that is 5-6 on the put-out at second base.
22:56A bit of a tricky play for everyone here,
22:58but that's what you want to do.
22:59Make sure that you get one out.
23:02So the way Okamoto is playing away with it by short,
23:06Jimenez went for the ball first,
23:07went back toward the bag,
23:09and Okamoto made sure he got it to it just in time.
23:12And the Rockies are challenging the call.
23:15Did he get the foot to the bag
23:18before the ball got into the glove of Jimenez?
23:21They might have a case.
23:22The flip to Jimenez was high,
23:24and that extra split second may have cost them.
23:35Yeah, it may have cost them.
23:37Looks like he's in there.
23:39Tovar with good speed and good hustle
23:41and sliding straight hard into the base.
23:44That's the key for a base runner.
23:48Is there enough?
23:56It kind of feels like he was safe,
23:58but is it clear and definitive evidence that he's safe?
24:12Jimenez doesn't have to close the glove around the ball.
24:15The ball just has to be inside the glove,
24:17making contact with the inside of the glove.
24:20But did he get there ahead of that?
24:25Looks like his foot hit the bag right there
24:28just before that ball enters the glove.
24:30After view, the call has been overturned.
24:32The runner is safe.
24:33Colorado retains it.
24:36So the Rockies retain their challenge.
24:41And it is first and second with nobody out.
24:54Jordan Beck is the batter and the corner infielders
24:58are coming in right now thinking a bunch is a possibility.
25:09This is one of the ways the Rockies feel they can become more competitive,
25:14doing the little things well, winning around the margins,
25:17even something that maybe gets taken for granted sometimes,
25:21like busting your tail to second base
25:24and just beating a throw.
25:26They want to run very aggressively.
25:31Jordan Beck is a former number one pick
25:34for a first-round pick of the Rockies.
25:36He's had a nice year.
25:36Last year he was in his third season.
25:38I thought when Warren Schaefer was putting some signs on him,
25:40we're looking to see, and it looks like the Blue Jays thought he could bunt,
25:42but they are swinging away here,
25:45trying to break open a little bit bigger of an inning against Gosman.
25:50So the scoring on the last play, by the way, is a fielder's choice.
25:54It's not a base hit for Rockfield
25:55because the Blue Jays elected to try to get the lead runner.
25:58They just didn't get it done.
26:02Rockfield swung at that first pitch and dribbled it.
26:04Didn't hit it very hard.
26:05Didn't really give Tovar a chance to maybe try to steal the base first.
26:11The 1-2.
26:34And another foul off.
26:36Boy, the Rockies are making Gosman work here in the fifth.
26:46Came into this inning at 49 pitches.
26:48He's thrown 17 so far this inning.
26:5111 in the get-back to Tovar, which ended in the base hit.
26:59Tough to square up.
27:02Seems like you've seen a lot of those foul balls
27:04queued off the end of the bat,
27:05especially on those splitters.
27:07Fastball's not quite getting to them.
27:10Swing and a miss.
27:11One down.
27:18The ability to get swing and miss is so crucial for a pitcher.
27:22A ball not put in play, taking care of it himself.
27:30Just so tough for young hitters to lay off that pitch.
27:35I think after you see Kevin a number of times,
27:37we've seen more and more teams over the years trying to lay off that pitch.
27:40And that's where he's sitting on to this foreseeing fastball.
27:42Buried at the bottom of the zone as well.
27:45Big chess match.
27:50Now, side ball one to Brett Sullivan,
27:52the catcher who grounded out his first time up.
28:01Now, ground ball can get you out of the inning, potentially.
28:09A strike, and Kirk bluffing a throw down to second.
28:13The runner back in.
28:15One and one.
28:21The Rockies lost a runner on a pickoff play out at second last night.
28:25Warren Schaefer does not want to see that happen again here today.
28:28Plays on, but he's back in safely.
28:33So the catcher in the shortstop can communicate.
28:36We saw what looked like might have been a pickoff the pitch before.
28:39I'm not sure that's the time to put that on.
28:41You've just alerted the runner that we're thinking about you.
28:43But I would have saved that one maybe for a pitch or two.
28:52Part of the work done before a series begins
28:57is identifying which players on the other team they think might be susceptible to getting picked off at second.
29:05Who could be looking around or bouncing around a little bit too much.
29:10And all the pitchers and the catchers, the infielders, they all know going into the series,
29:16okay, if player A, B, or C is out there, and in this kind of a situation,
29:20he may be the kind of guy we try to get.
29:23But if you've got Tovar at second base and you're Andres Jimenez, they're both buddies on that Venezuelan team.
29:29Maybe if you're Jimenez, you know, you have a little conversation,
29:31kind of lure him off that bag a little bit more.
29:36Fly ball left field.
29:39Schneider racing over near the line.
29:42It is a foul ball.
29:44No catch and a foul ball down the line.
29:50There is just not a lot of room down there beyond the foul line.
29:54So Davis does the right thing.
29:56You slide in and go feet first.
29:58And it looks like it did it skip first or did he have it?
30:02Oh, wow.
30:04I mean, that is...
30:05Did it...
30:08I'm not sure he even knew he...
30:09I don't think he even knew he had it, but did it hit the wall first on its way down?
30:14I don't think so.
30:15No, it looks like he had it.
30:17He looks like he had it and he didn't know he had it.
30:20An incredible effort.
30:21It's absolutely incredible effort.
30:23It touches the wall there, it looks like, once it's in his glove.
30:29Wow.
30:33And that's all you can do with the wall right there.
30:35You slide in and make sure you go feet first or knees first.
30:38You know, for a guy who's a natural infielder and doesn't have blazing speed,
30:41he makes some unbelievable plays out there.
30:45Strike three called.
30:49There's that fastball down in the zone.
30:51Change it up every once in a while.
30:57He caught Kyle Karros like that earlier.
30:59They're so accustomed to seeing the heater up.
31:02The splitter down.
31:03Sullivan thinking he's laying off a splitter, maybe?
31:05Frozen.
31:06So now two down.
31:08As Gossman tries to pitch out of this jam, the batter is Brenton Doyle, the center fielder,
31:13who struck out in the third.
31:24Just one hit in the game for the Rockies.
31:26It was Tovar to open up this inning.
31:28Kirk out front there, just in case in the event of a double steal where you're throwing the ball,
31:32he may go backdoor to second base to get Rumfield rather than Tovar.
31:36That third.
31:38Grounded sharply to third.
31:41Okamoto with a nice play.
31:45Almost took it right in the midsection.
31:48He may in fact have.
31:50But he stuck with it, made the play, got the out,
31:53and gets the defense off the field.
31:56It remains 1-0 Blue Jays.
31:59Let's get an update with Jamie Campbell.
32:07This wasn't some special.
32:08James.
32:09How about this?
32:10I'm a team.
32:11I'm a team.
32:12I'm a team.
32:13I'm a team.
32:15We're in a ballpark.
32:17We're in a team.
32:26We're in a team.
32:38All right, thank you.
33:11All right.
33:46One more look at this play.
33:48It's not so much that Okamoto caught the ball.
33:51The ball bounced up and hit him in the midsection
33:53and then dropped into his glove
33:56and he stuck with it and made the play.
33:58A, that had to hurt a lot
34:00and B, that was a really good play
34:02and quick adjustment by him
34:04to then make an accurate throw to second.
34:06He blocked the ball like a catcher
34:08making sure that he had it.
34:11Big stop, runner in scoring position, infielders are tight.
34:14Make sure you block it, knock it down.
34:16Do not let that ball into the outfield.
34:17He made sure of that.
34:21So on to the bottom of the fifth
34:23after a couple of runners are stranded by Gaussman.
34:26It's Schneider, Guerrero, and Okamoto.
34:28Davis Schneider's driven in the only run of the game.
34:30He made the bat in and outfield.
34:34Freeland out front one and two.
34:50plays off two and two just like
34:55Freeland has done such a good job
34:57of mixing all of his pitches but
34:59also mixing the zones the fastball
35:01has got enough on it to keep
35:02hitters honest but from the
35:04curveball to the cutter moving
35:07them around you can see he's a guy
35:10with a game plan and the ability
35:12to execute that game plan
35:30grounded to short Tovar scoops it
35:32up and throws him out
35:39one more look at Okamoto this is
35:42after the play you can see him
35:43you know hand to his midsection
35:45and when he went back toward the
35:47dugout they started to ask him
35:48first Laz Diaz then John Schneider
35:51Yusuke Oshima over to offer any
35:53assistance in terms of interpreting
35:56and he said yeah it got me how can
35:58you say can you breathe because
35:59that's what can happen you get one
36:01right there in the midsection
36:11so now Guerrero who grounded out in
36:13the first and was hit by a pitch in
36:15the third
36:23Anthony's one and one
36:32the Rockies given the Blue Jays all
36:34they can handle it was a tight game
36:36into the middle innings on Monday
36:40and then Colorado blew it open 114 to
36:43five even last night it was two to one
36:47going to the bottom of the seventh
36:48before the Blue Jays got three and now
36:51it's one to nothing Colorado just like
36:53they did with the Marlins they lost
36:54all three games down there but all
36:56three of them were by just one run
37:01Kyle Freeland pitched one of those
37:03blowout games last year if you
37:05remember the Blue Jays scored all
37:07kinds of runs over a three game
37:09series
37:16big hack there by Okamoto on the
37:19first pitch and he fouls it back he
37:21is one for two Freeland pitched into
37:23the fifth inning it was a twenty to
37:25one final but he came out in the
37:27fifth when it was five to one and
37:28the Blue Jays just continued to add
37:30on on a wild series in Coors Field
37:3345 runs and 63 hits in a three game
37:36series
37:41oh and two another one of those foul
37:44balls that we've been talking about
37:45and that one was coming in hot wound
37:48up up in the 500 level see the one
37:50that did it the other day he was
37:51yeah Barger had one too that we
37:53talked about but I mean it's two
37:56home runs have certainly been
37:58impressive Okamoto
38:07now if you don't know the home plate
38:09umpire Brian I was just gonna say
38:11fooled he almost got me again the big
38:14step he takes it looks like he's going
38:15to ring you right because some guys do it
38:17differently for strike three than they
38:18do for one and two obviously swing and
38:24a miss and Okamoto strikes out and
38:27we are through five and Roger Center
38:28there's still a one to nothing game
39:02let's go get it to understand the
40:28For New Brunswick.
40:32With Joe Siddle Hazel May I'm Dan Schulman it's one to nothing Blue Jays going to the sixth final game
40:38of this three game series.
40:41Number nine hitter Kyle Karros will lead it off in the sixth against Kevin Gossman.
40:48Fastball for a strike.
40:52Alhandar Kirk was critical in Kevin Gossman's first start stealing some pitches at the bottom of the zone like that
40:58one right there.
40:59He hasn't needed as much help today. He's got a lot of swings on those splitters down.
41:03He's got one slider off the plate.
41:23He's got one slider off the line drive right field.
41:26And there is Sanchez.
41:31Activity in the Rockies pen right hander Anthony Sensatella is up.
41:36He had one appearance down in Miami. He was a very good one.
41:39A guy who has been with the Rockies as long as Freeland has going back to 2017.
41:46Long man for Warren Schaefer's out right for the most part.
41:49And another guy with a big arm.
41:51He has been a starter for the vast majority of his career but working out of the pen right now.
42:05So the Blue Jays have on their roster.
42:09Lazaro Estrada who right now would probably fill the role of a long man.
42:12He is in Cody Ponce's spot on the roster right now.
42:16We'll see what happens Sunday if he starts that game or is involved.
42:19It depends if they need him between now and then.
42:21Troy Johnston rips one up the alley.
42:25All the way to the wall on a couple of bounces.
42:27And he's got himself a one out double just the second hit of the day for Colorado.
42:34Now the splitter stayed up a little bit more than most of the others and Troy Johnston looks like a
42:39good young hitter.
42:41For the Rockies.
42:43The ball started up and it kind of just stayed up and in the strike zone.
42:47Really turns the barrel in behind and drills that ball into the right center gap.
42:54Tying run at second with one out for Hunter Goodman.
43:07And he went around says Brian on or it's 0 and 1.
43:10But he's got Goodman really guessing today.
43:14When you have a dangerous hitter like this you just don't want him to guess right.
43:19Kevin's been keeping him off kilter.
43:26Now to play right side quickly 0 and 2.
43:3581 pitches at this point through five and a third for Gaussman.
43:39He went six innings one run struck out 11 on opening night through 83 pitches.
43:50And his strike to ball ratio outstanding in his first game 83 pitches 60 strikes today 81 pitches 61 strikes.
44:00Kyle Freeling's been very good too.
44:02These guys have been pounding the zone today with good stuff.
44:08Towards the right field corner but slicing out of play.
44:11This is a classic pitchers duel two starting pitchers really going at it both on top of their games.
44:17Fun to watch if you're a true baseball fan and you love to watch the art of pitching.
44:23Now two guys who have been around a while.
44:25Freeland 10 years Gaussman longer than that.
44:330-2.
44:35Got him.
44:36Again.
44:36Had him thinking something else.
44:38Had the splitter on his mind and he takes a fastball down the middle.
44:42He went with a fastball.
44:43I'm watching Alan Hunter Kirk's setup and I'm not sure he wanted this ball up.
44:47You see Kirk's blow up high and he threw it down.
44:50Maybe Kevin did it on his own.
44:51Either way it worked because the hitter sure wasn't thinking about it.
44:58No.
44:59Number nine for Gaussman.
45:01Out number two and here's Willie Castro.
45:11And the first sign of activity in the Blue Jays bullpen.
45:14Tommy Nance has just started getting loose.
45:27Still got a lot on that fastball.
45:29Ninety six on that one.
45:35And we've seen him be able to do this.
45:37Tune it up a little bit when he needs it.
45:47And again, a little bit late.
45:49Just not a great looking swing there by Castro.
45:52That fastball was ninety seven.
45:55Got him on a high and in fastball last time.
46:03This is where I think his weapons both work right here.
46:06You can go with the heater again and elevate it or you can go split it down.
46:09They're both so good.
46:09It's good.
