01:15like go talk to her and I said oh she don't like me we ended up having a good conversation
01:19and then
01:20we've been together ever since we've worked together ever since college from real estate to mortgages and
01:28in our spare time we dress up as pirates we're part of a pirate group we have socials we get
01:36together and make our costumes we raise money every month for charitable organizations we like the
01:43pirate life we found a group of friends down here so we're looking for a home here in past Christiane

01:50Mississippi Gulf look at this out here it doesn't get any better this is awesome we ought to seriously
01:57start looking for a place near the beach yeah we can take a look start the search and see what

02:03can find we live in Slidell Louisiana which is about 45 minutes from here and we've been coming down to
02:09past Christiane for about six to seven years a lot of people come from New Orleans it's only about an
02:15hour and it's located on the Mississippi Gulf it's on the east side of st. Louis Bay between Biloxi and
02:21Bay St. Louis the beaches are wonderful this whole area for a good 15 miles is just beautiful sand and
02:29you've got all these gorgeous homes nice friendly mom-and-pop type businesses it's peaceful you're right
02:37on the water we love it we want to spend a couple weeks at a time and have a home
02:42and a place to stay
02:43if we could set it up so that it could become a permanent home down the road here that would
02:48be wonderful I would like to be nearby so we can ride our bikes so walking distance is important and
02:55then I'd like to have at least one extra bedroom for guests no less than three yeah I don't want
03:01too big of a house but I want to be comfortable we're down in the south and nine months out
03:06of the
03:06year it's gorgeous weather dinner so we definitely want to find something that we can have an outdoor
03:11tiki bar we can have something that we can enjoy the outdoors definitely two bathrooms we need an
03:15office space doing remote work what if we found a place that had a great price and it needed some
03:22renovations and some cleanup would you be cool with that oh I'm definitely cool with that I mean we've
03:26done it before yeah with other properties yeah we know what we're doing we want to find something
03:30that's a good value if we can standard $400,000 we'd be real comfortable with that yeah Cindy's
03:35wonderful interior designer she absolutely knows how to redo kitchens and bathrooms and then I like
03:43building I do like to do some repairs and remodeling we have had our friends pushing us to move down

18:32thing is the size of it 1200 square feet I know we're talking about downsizing but that's a little too
18:38small anything so we decided to go with Serenity Sands I mean location location location it's a block
18:46from the beach at the end we said you know what let's get the bigger home we wanted to go

18:52smaller the more we fall in love with it I'm thinking that we may end up moving down here full
18:57time and we're gonna build this big tiki bar in the back and entertain folks Serenity Sands was listed
19:02at 425,000 and they hadn't had any activity for about a year so we offered cash 300,000 and

19:10accepted it we found the right place and we got the right price and uh-huh now we got a
19:15lot of work
19:15to do we couldn't be happier I'm excited yeah yeah we bought this place oh yeah hey we're home yeah

20:35mirrors some new vanity lighting and we got to get rid of this closet right in the front here when

20:41come in and open this up and this door is too narrow oh we need to get at least a

20:47yeah so this is probably going to be the most expensive part no we've got the kitchen too okay
20:54so in here I think all new appliances I'd like to paint the cabinets take that oven unit out lower

21:11with some pretty tile well I want to put that window in the dining room here so you're looking

21:29over the peninsula this is gonna look great all right but we still have to talk about the tiki bar

22:24office yeah and then the two guest bathrooms we'll just do a little painting and clean them up just a
22:29little bit but they're in pretty good shape overall after closing costs we technically have about a
22:34hundred thousand left over but we crunched numbers and decided to keep it right around fifty thousand
22:39and we'll be doing some of the work ourselves so fifty thousand dollars plus our work we're gonna be
22:45getting a lot out of it mm-hmm but we're gonna get some good health look at this thing going

22:56making it look great everybody grab something and let's get it out of here today's the day we start
23:02turning this house into what we want it to be mm-hmm part of our pirate crew is gonna join
23:09us and when we
23:10get together we all dress like pirates and everybody works hard I mean everybody's coming out they've
23:15remodeled homes and done things before as well but because they didn't want to get their outfits
23:21dirty and so forth they switched their their clothes so the goal for today is first to move all the
23:26furniture out of the rooms for popcorn removal okay now wait a minute it's not gonna fit we got to
23:32take
23:32those off all right we're also gonna rip up the carpet and knock some walls down are you ready to

23:48this done yeah let's knock this thing down all right you ready you make the first swing let's do it

24:12are empty we got the wall almost fully demoed and our subcontractor Juan is here he'll kind of lead the
24:20way on the bathroom remodel and the kitchen remodel hey Juan how's it going I want to try to take

24:33before we go back to slide L I'd like to get some progress started on the kitchen make sure that

24:40bathroom is completely gutted this is awesome we're empty isn't that awesome yeah I think we're
24:47here to help yeah because we're gonna come back for the party you are you don't help you don't get

24:52come so we have one more day Juan is coming to remove all the popcorn from the dining room
25:10family room kitchen and we're also going to start the remodel on the primary bathroom we've got a
25:18couple of our pirate friends coming back why don't we pop the drywall off and then we'll get the frame

26:21and we put a first coat on the bottom kitchen cupboards so today was a good day overall we
26:27got a lot done the team that we had here today was pushing hard and without their hard work we've
26:34never would have gotten as far as we did today yeah we're ahead of schedule we like it or at
26:38least on
26:38schedule and we do it again another day
26:49we have to figure out this bathroom we are in town trying to get the primary bathroom put together
26:55we're anxious to get started on that I want to show you some floor samples oh great what do you
27:01got the primary bathroom flooring we were choosing between a real tile and luxury vinyl plank this is a
27:10porcelain tiles and then we go back to a luxury vinyl type thing this one matches the vanity
27:18top it's got the veining in it I gotta be honest with you if we're gonna do the whole floor
27:23I like
27:23having something through it instead of just stark stark white that feels too resort hotel-y how much
27:33more would this be I think it's almost double all right wonderful this makes a lot more sense let's go
27:39for it all right we like the luxury vinyl plank that one you can piece together easy we can install
27:45it
27:45our south without hiring anybody so this is our first option and I love it gorgeous that is nice
27:54second option is a similar material it's a tongue and groove system totally waterproof I mean is this
28:02more expensive pricing on it comes out to be about the same per square foot it'll be light and bright
28:08and
28:09the vanity is gray as well and I like the idea we kind of open this up let's keep it
28:13brighter and
28:14lighter you know we're trying to make it beachy let's go with this one then we're in this is gonna
28:19look great we decided to go with a vertical placement of it and it also is easy to install so
28:27we're anxious to
28:28get started on that nice today we're gonna go ahead and put in the hall bathroom cabinet in the sink
28:46and
28:46we've got to redo the plumbing underneath yeah we have Juan and his assistant our subcontractor my
28:53realtor and designer friend Tiffany will be joining us I cut a nice angle on there so hopefully we'll
29:11be able to glue it on make it work we'll find out they're gonna start sanding the ceilings
29:20we're going to do some exploratory taking walls out of the pass through closets go ahead I'll get
29:26out of the way

29:45did I make a wish thank you yes I hope this house gets done sooner than later and that everything

30:49how to do real plumbing and real electric because I'm limited in that capacity we got a lot more work
30:55with we're excited about it okay so this one ought to trim just a little bit off less than half

31:14I'm gonna be laying in four planks in our first bedroom which is something I have actually not
31:19done before but I've been looking at the videos and talking to folks that have we still have a little
31:23bit of a gap here so we can pull the refrigerator out and come from this end mm-hmm today

31:41working in the kitchen primarily remove some of the remaining backsplash moving the wall but you're not
31:48moving I just yeah I brought just broke the wall it's just hard to get behind it and take it
31:53off in
31:53one piece what what did you just do girl I just yeah you can if you can ever get it

32:03fingers behind it it'll come right off there you go yay I am so glad to have the backsplash off

33:31said Robert you got to come down here and help me with for a couple days what we're trying to

33:37holes put in the first part of the framing there it is and put concrete and that's what we got
33:50accomplished so I can then put posts and a roof on the back porch today Tiffany my designing partner
34:01and I are going to tackle the backsplash we're going with a white mosaic subway tile I think it's going
34:10to look really well with the color we chose for the walls beautiful already

35:54exactly what we wanted it's kind of light and airy I guess would be the best way to describe it

35:58like night and day from the old bathroom with most of the big projects done we can now think about
36:02decorating we're super excited to call past christian our new home
36:11pick it back up on top like this
36:15today we're excited we're going to be building the tiki bar repurposing the fireplace mantle from inside
36:26the process will be to cut it down
36:32perfect size fill in the front gap where the fireplace goes
36:38well you're going to move them so this fits okay i like that yeah it works
36:43it looks good all right so let's put the top on
36:52now we have the tiki bar itself in place oh this is huge
36:58now we can start dressing this place and putting up some really cool things
37:07we're going to use a lot of shells and different things from the sea that uh bohemian bahamas vibe
37:13going that kind of thing oh that's not that cool
37:27today is the big day we're putting the final touches on the house hi pirates pirates forever
37:38oh they're here they're here finally all right i've got my niece rochelle coming over who has never
37:44seen the house oh my gosh and then our good friends diane and jeff are coming
37:54come on in we're going to show you around this has been an incredible experience we thought we
37:59were going to do quite a bit when we started that we did more of course welcome to our new
38:04home
38:06it's almost like a different place now that fireplace gosh that looks great it's now it looks like
38:12it's built in it's like it's always been here that looks so good well the fireplace had a wooden
38:17mantel over the top of it and there was nothing on each side of it and cindy came up with
38:22the idea
38:22of doing the shelving which is fantastic awesome that's a great focal point and here is the primary
38:30bedroom we didn't do much in here we love the color so we just decorated it so it feels more
38:36like
38:36the beach but this bathroom we did gut we did a lot of work in here wow when you came
38:42in here behind
38:43you rochelle was a big closet that was all a closet there was a single sink over there on that
38:49side
38:49there was a single sink right here and another closet over here and this was an old bathtub and around
38:55the corner was uh the shower and we just decided to completely got this thing open it up do the
39:01double
39:02vanity cindy came up with this whole idea for the shower this whole shower is pretty impressive
39:09you want to touch the tile it looks like fabric it's hard to believe that's a tile i love how
39:14you
39:14married the vintage and the modern together it really brings the beach look and everything we got
39:19a whole another half of the house to see wow okay in this family room there literally was a wall
39:25here
39:25with a little window opening a closet and a little archway here wow now it looks a little retro modern
39:33and beachy and colors are great beautiful
39:39wow this is gorgeous this is this is really beautiful i just love the colors my favorite love
39:46is this butcher block that was a peninsula that had a two level with the black granite on it and
39:53i just
39:53had a dream of this butcher block to come out on there brightens the space yeah and we had talked
39:59about replacing the uh the countertops but once i took out the backsplash i decided to go ahead and
40:05keep it save some money there i like it yeah it's great and it just kind of picks up all
40:10the colors with
40:12the color of the cabinets yeah and then even with the wood because you have the different grains in there
40:16and then what we did is adding the b-board up on the soffit you did a great job bringing
40:22all the
40:22textures together from the facets on the knobs and the backsplash and then the pendant lighting

40:57you think so some pirates are going to like hanging out here this was just an outdoor deck with a
41:03railing we came up with the idea of putting up a roof over this so that we could enjoy it
41:08out here
41:08this was the fireplace mantel that we've turned into the tiki bar oh wow that's really great oh
41:15very nice i love it i'm just really impressed with what you've done you've both done a fantastic job
41:21and your vision for this place was more than i couldn't think of it's beautiful and it's the
41:27cool space to be in i love it all this afternoon we're having our party and we're going to have
41:32about
41:3220 pirates here all right all right let's go back great really beautiful wonderful what's really
41:42cool about all this is the house came out better than we had expected and i got to say the
41:46more
41:46that we're spending time down here we're falling in love with this place more and more each day
41:50i love it it really came out well come on
41:56even though we got the house for under asking price
41:59we just decided we didn't want to spend more than fifty thousand dollars on renovations
42:03so we decided we're going to go ahead and do a lot of the work ourselves we were able to
42:07stay within
42:07that budget of fifty thousand dollars well what do you think about this whole place it's nice one
42:13of the best things about this whole thing is our friends they are completely stunned and amazed
42:17it will be put together so our pirate group to serenity sands and many pirate gatherings
42:27and may i say that the house looks amazing y'all did a wonderful job thanks they're very excited
42:34about it we're getting a lot of good compliments so we built it in and built the bookshelves and
42:40everything and we really appreciate that there are good ships and bad ships and ships that sell at sea
42:46and may we always love the friendship and may they always be
42:51so we are very excited to see you guys
