00:00The 17th person voted out and the fourth member of our jury, Simon.
00:16You need to bring me your torch.
00:23I'll do the intro.
00:24No, I'll do the intro.
00:25No, no, no, I'm gonna do the intro.
00:26No, I'm gonna do the intro.
00:27No, I'm gonna do the intro.
00:28Or we can go to Rocks.
00:30Whatever you choose.
00:31I'm happy to go to Rocks.
00:32Let's go to Rocks.
00:33Whoever pulls the white rock does the intro.
00:35Okay.
00:36Okay.
00:36Ready?
00:36Three, two, one.
00:37Reveal.
00:40Hi, and welcome back to Jury's Out with Shoddy Potel and Nick Idanza.
00:45Nick Idanza, I guess.
00:47Where we take you behind the scenes of every single tribal council.
00:51And we have one of the biggest players on the season here.
00:54I'm excited to introduce a member of the 100 Day Club,
00:57a three-time Australian survivor legend,
01:01and all-round gun at the physical portion of this game.
01:05It is Simon Mee.
01:07Hello, guys.
01:09How are we?
01:09How are my little rascals doing?
01:11Oh, we're doing great.
01:12Come join the fold.
01:13Come join the fold and chat to us.
01:15Tell us everything about this season.
01:17Because you were a little bit of a rascal as well yourself this season.
01:19You were so naughty.
01:22Yeah.
01:23Well, I couldn't keep my hands to myself.
01:26I needed to get involved.
01:27And I think as you come back as a returning player,
01:30you know what it means to actually get in and get involved.
01:33and get your hands, yeah, right in the mix of things.
01:36And yeah, it all fell into place for me.
01:39So it was fun.
01:40Well, let's talk about that tribal council where you went home.
01:43Rocks.
01:44It was all about rocks.
01:45I think everyone said it.
01:46We're willing to go to rocks tonight.
01:48Which is really exciting.
01:50Sally, am I hearing this right?
01:52These two alliances are ready to go to rocks.
01:55Hell yeah!
01:57Hell yeah!
01:58Hell yeah!
01:59Hell yeah baby!
02:00Let's go!
02:01Hell yeah!
02:03Rocks this, rocks that.
02:05Did you think it was going to go to rocks?
02:08I did.
02:10Initially, like I thought there was a very strong possibility,
02:13but I didn't think it would actually get there.
02:16Like at the end of the day, like...
02:18It never does.
02:19I know.
02:20It never does.
02:21There's always motivation for someone to actually move.
02:23You know, we've gone really close a couple of times,
02:26but there's always motivation for someone to move at some stage.
02:29That's why I wasn't too concerned about talking about,
02:32you know, pulling a second rock when I, you know,
02:34legally, as per the rules, couldn't.
02:36Yeah, we wanted to talk to you about that.
02:38Can you explain your thought process around the two rock thing?
02:41Jackson doesn't have to go to rocks.
02:43Simon made it clear whoever jumps ship, he will take two.
02:47Not one, but two rocks.
02:49So, like I wanted to prove...
02:51Like I had burnt trust with a lot of people and...
02:54But for the people I was working with, I wanted to show that I was,
02:57you know, still loyal and going to be a man of my word
03:00when it came down to the people I was working with.
03:01Be a man of his word by telling a big lie.
03:05By telling a big lie and showing that I'm going to do something
03:08and trying to follow through with it.
03:09And like, I was lucky that I never got caught out at that point in time.
03:14I was going to, you know, do it for, or appear to do it for Jackson
03:18to prove that like I will be there for the players that are around me.
03:22Bit of like a scare tactic there.
03:23And also I thought that the votes wouldn't be coming my way,
03:28that I would be exposed for the rock draw.
03:29So when my name came out, that's when I was like,
03:33okay, it's not going on Keely and I'm not the,
03:36someone's looking to actually have a shot at me here.
03:38The deadlock thing, the deadlock, like that was obviously great.
03:41I would have expected someone to maybe make the move.
03:44Like if someone wanted to actually really stamp their ground on the game
03:48to make a move in the first vote,
03:50as opposed to waiting to the re-vote.
03:52And then for it to be Brooke was like,
03:55it's so awesome to like have her signature against my name,
03:58as opposed to one of like the riffraff or something like that.
04:00You know, it's like...
04:01Get on that riffraff.
04:02No, not them.
04:03She's the one who's taken the opportunity there.
04:05She gets the move and she gets the credit in my eyes for,
04:08you know, moving on me at a very difficult time.
04:10And, you know, I either hope like at this point in time,
04:13that Brooke can go the distance and I have helped her progress
04:17at the right time to there to, you know,
04:20get herself into a position to have a crack at the title.
04:23Or, you know, she comes into the fold, joins me on the jury,
04:26and there's a, you know, big fat, I told you so.
04:28But, you know, I was motivated to move on her at seven anyway.
04:31So, you know.
04:32I think that was just the most incredible idea
04:35to kind of pretend that you are going to put your game on the line,
04:39bring in someone, make a huge move,
04:42and then take a rock for them to prove your loyalty.
04:46That is literally iconic.
04:47Like, I love that so much.
04:49Do you think you would have been able to bring in Jackson
04:51without that little white lie about that little white rock?
04:57Thank you, iconic queen.
04:59That means a lot coming from you.
05:01Yeah, I think...
05:03Look, it was a deal sweetener, essentially.
05:05Like, I needed him there.
05:06Jackson needed a move.
05:08And, you know, I worked on Jackson for 72 hours
05:10to help him identify that, you know, he needed something.
05:13Ben was in his blind spot.
05:15I pitched to him during the day.
05:16I pitched to him at the Tribal Council
05:18with my new WWE spiel about when the talent scouts
05:22from WWE come to town.
05:24Are you going to take the shot?
05:25I'm not going to explain what he's doing.
05:27I'm not going to show you what he's doing.
05:30I'm not going to show you what he's doing.
05:32Are you just going to work?
05:34I can't buy some guy and take him out.
05:36Are you going to put him on top of him?
05:38Backflip off.
05:40I'm absolutely beautiful.
05:42He turned around and he said no.
05:43And then 30 seconds before David said, let's go to vote,
05:46he took the shot and it was incredible.
05:49So, but I think to have, like, a lot leading up to it,
05:52but then with the extra incentives of,
05:54I will take your rock and you will get my vote at the end.
05:58Like, I'm just looking for anything to, like,
06:00just help sweeten a really tough position that I'm in.
06:03And when you don't have, you know, a lot of deep connections
06:05when people want you out of the game,
06:07you just have to get inventive.
06:08And, like, that's where I do my best work, on the bottom.
06:10Like, I played for most of the heroes versus villains on the bottom.
06:13And, you know, my best move was throwing out the beans and rice.
06:16What was it? A severe case of...
06:19Severe bottomness.
06:20But it really does just go to prove how hard you've worked
06:23because you're like, okay, what can I do to bring someone on?
06:26And then you're kind of, like, getting inventive
06:28and doing something that's never been done before.
06:31Next season after this, everyone's going to be like,
06:33I'll take your rock, I'll do this.
06:35Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:36Well, and just to clarify, you cannot pull another player's rock.
06:41We know.
06:42Yeah, we know.
06:43I don't think that they know that.
06:45And, like, the big thing for me, like, I didn't leave my wife
06:49and daughter at home for a third time to come out here
06:51and to not, you know, leave any stone unturned.
06:54Like, I came here to try absolutely everything.
06:56And I can walk away proud that, you know, knowing if I didn't win,
06:59that I absolutely gave it everything.
07:02And, like, you know, that's kind of the part of the legacy that I'll leave.
07:04So I'm really proud of that.
07:06Speaking of your beautiful wife and daughter,
07:09you got a video at the reward.
07:12Can you tell us a little bit about that?
07:13I, myself, have gotten a video of my baby daughter before.
07:16One of the highlights of my Survivor career.
07:18Tell us how that felt because she's very little and you left to go play.
07:21Yeah, she's very little.
07:22My little mermaid will be turning two next month.
07:25Hello, Daddy.
07:28Bye-bye, Daddy.
07:30Aww.
07:31And you say,
07:32Good luck, Daddy.
07:34Good luck, Daddy.
07:36Aww, she's so cute.
07:39And she's a little bundle of energy.
07:41Apparently the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
07:44She's there just like,
07:45Mum, I'm doing an immunity challenge.
07:49Yeah, she's already winning necklaces at daycare.
07:52It was really tough to, you know, to see it.
07:55And I almost was in a mindset of like,
07:58I don't want anything from home right now.
08:01Like, I know why I'm out here.
08:02I know what I need to do.
08:03Like, I have the motivation and the fire in my belly.
08:06And I don't want to pull my head out of the game right now.
08:09But when I had that moment,
08:11it definitely just hit hard and, you know, fanned the flames.
08:15We love you.
08:17She's grown up so much.
08:19And just went, just keep on going.
08:21Like, if you think you've flipped over enough rocks,
08:24flip them over again.
08:25You know, like...
08:26It always goes back to rocks.
08:27Yeah.
08:27You know what?
08:28It's nice to be talking about something that's not idols, mate.
08:30So, I'm all for it.
08:32That's kind of nice.
08:32Well, that's...
08:33Yeah, that's okay.
08:34But, um, going back to that reward challenge.
08:37Obviously, you didn't pick Loz.
08:38Loz is also a mother.
08:40Do you think if you had picked Loz,
08:42that could have impacted who they voted for
08:45the night that you went home?
08:46Yeah, potentially.
08:47Like, I have thought about that.
08:48And it was a huge, um,
08:51a huge decision to not take Loz,
08:53given, you know, Loz's,
08:55like, her relationship with her girls is so tight,
08:59and she really, really, really wanted to speak to them
09:03at that point in time.
09:04I wonder if it would be family videos?
09:06That must be.
09:07I think so.
09:08I just couldn't even have the hope,
09:10because it would be too far to fall
09:12if I actually thought about seeing my kids.
09:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
09:15But, I felt like Loz and my relationship
09:18was probably...
09:20We were just on different wavelengths.
09:21Like, she was playing a very, you know,
09:23emotional game on a different level to where I was,
09:27and the amount of times I'd kind of tried
09:28and knocked on the door,
09:29I felt like it was just not quite getting across.
09:32And, like, it might have been enough to do it,
09:34but I was willing to double down on Jackson,
09:37who had already, like, thrown a lifeline
09:39as opposed to, like, spoken about the thought
09:42of maybe next vote coming to work with me.
09:45It makes sense.
09:45Yeah.
09:46But then I also wonder if,
09:47because Loz is an emotional player,
09:49maybe you could have been like,
09:51Loz, I gave you the opportunity to look at your girls.
09:54You owe me.
09:55I was just thinking that, yeah.
09:57Yeah.
09:57Coulda, shoulda, woulda.
09:58I really think that Loz would have been
10:00one of those people.
10:01Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:02So, to answer your question, yes,
10:03I think she could have been.
10:04I think that could have been enough to,
10:07you know, to seal, reseal,
10:08and repatch my relationship with Loz there.
10:11You had already, like, put so much effort
10:14and trust into Jackson,
10:15so why not give a dog a bone?
10:16Yeah, exactly.
10:17Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:18And I had put so much, like,
10:20the whole time, like, I was out there with Loz,
10:22like, you know, I took her under my wing.
10:24I protected her for so long.
10:26People would talk over her quite a lot
10:27and always made sure, as, you know,
10:29one of the larger males in the group,
10:31to, like, make a point of asking,
10:32hey, Loz, like, what's your opinion on this?
10:34So she has a time to, you know,
10:36voice her opinions and stuff
10:37because she struggled to find that space
10:39and I wanted to open that up for her,
10:41to, you know, to bring her in.
10:44And it was tough when I was, you know,
10:46bringing her up to date with plans
10:47and I had to give her the inception of any plans
10:5048 hours in advance
10:52so she could actually process them and think about them.
10:5448 hours?
10:55She's like, sorry, it's been 47.
10:57I can't comprehend.
10:59Once we hit merge and the speed of the game,
11:00like, really came up, I'm like,
11:02I'm going to struggle to be able to give her that much notice
11:05to be able to keep working with me.
11:06Like, we're going to have to be a little bit more dynamic.
11:08And like, she had a lot of times of like,
11:10I, you know, I want to, I want to talk to you,
11:12but I need to speak to everyone else first.
11:14And when she never was coming back to me,
11:16it's like, oh, I, this is now becoming a resource suck on my end.
11:21And I need to balance where I'm putting my energy right now.
11:24Let's talk about idols.
11:26So idols have been a big part of your survivor journey
11:29in your two previous seasons or the shadow of idols.
11:33That piece of coral with Mark.
11:35Can you give a little bit of insight into that?
11:36Yeah, just like that was obviously a bit of a critical,
11:39a critical pinch point.
11:40On day one, being a returning player,
11:43knew I was going to be up against it.
11:44I need to have as many tricks up my sleeve as I,
11:46you know, as I could.
11:47I had a fake idol up my sleeve for heroes versus villains
11:50and never had to pull it out.
11:51So I just ran the same play and had it there from day one
11:55when they, Dave threw me the buffs,
11:56took that piece of canvas,
11:58had the piece of twine wrapped around it
12:00and just had it in my bag for a rainy day.
12:02I didn't know about Mark's idol at the time.
12:04And I'm like, you know what?
12:06If this is just something to help cast a little bit of doubt,
12:10I think I might've had the necklace that night.
12:12So I wasn't in any immediate danger.
12:14If we can just like potentially pump it a little bit to spook them.
12:18And it actually worked perfectly.
12:20Like Mark and I were able to connect quite quickly.
12:22He communicated to me about the idol that he had won in his suit jacket.
12:25And then it was enough to be like, that looks fake.
12:28We'll keep the votes on Mark.
12:30And then Mark obviously played so well to, you know,
12:33draw all the votes in and then play the idol.
12:36And, you know, we sent Rich home, like, you know,
12:38for being an unloyal, you know, servant.
12:43An unloyal bit of riff raff.
12:44Riff raff, yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:46Riff raff.
12:46And just like, it's awesome playing with returning players that just get it.
12:50And you can play on that kind of level.
12:51And it was just like, Mark, fake idol.
12:53Pump fake it if you need to.
12:55Like, let's give ourselves options.
12:56And he's just like, yep, yep, yep.
12:59Got it. Great.
12:59And like, that's all it needed to be.
13:01Not 48 hours on that one.
13:02Yeah.
13:03Not even 48 seconds.
13:06We were on.
13:07We're on.
13:07We're on the same wavelength.
13:08And that's what I love about playing with returnees.
13:10Did you come into this season thinking that the only way I can get redemption
13:14is by properly playing an immunity idol?
13:16Nick, it was a huge part of my, like, what I thought redemption was coming in here.
13:22And, you know, I didn't find any idols because Brooke found them all,
13:26which is quite funny.
13:27But I realized that my redemption was so much more.
13:30Like, I didn't need an idol to, you know, to prove that I could play this game.
13:35By actually putting myself in the right positions,
13:37be able to identify my blind spots before they came problems for me,
13:41and have great social relations across the board,
13:44and actually proving that strategically I understand this game.
13:47Like, I can get it and I can pull it off.
13:49Like, playing well was so, so much more valuable to me
13:54than playing an idol correctly.
13:57And, you know, I walk out of here with my head held high,
14:00playing as a formidable, well-rounded player.
14:03Who is in the 100 Club?
14:07Congratulations.
14:08A hundred days guaranteed in this game,
14:10and a one in nine chance of winning.
14:14Yes.
14:14What up?
14:15Woo!
14:16Which is, that meant so much more to me than any, you know,
14:18any idol play correctly could have.
14:20Because, you know, I've always said an idol can save you for one tribal council,
14:24but, you know, friends, relationships, and alliances can save you for multiple.
14:28Simon, you had so many ride-or-dies throughout this season,
14:32and I feel like you kept on voting them off.
14:35Do you actually know what a ride-or-die is?
14:38Yeah, that was something that I, like, I came into this game,
14:41I really wanted to have, like, a ride-or-die be solid with me
14:45throughout the duration of the game.
14:46Like, I came into wanting to be fluid as well,
14:49and I realised that maybe I didn't need a ride-or-die for the duration,
14:52if that person didn't fit the bill when we, you know, were thinking,
14:56had different opinions and wanted to go different ways,
14:59but maybe it was right to have a ride-or-die for every phase of the game.
15:04I love that.
15:06I'll ride with you for a bit, and then you will die,
15:09and I'll just wave you off.
15:11It's not Uberman, you're not riding and then picking up the next one
15:14and then kicking it out and picking up the one after that.
15:16Like, you have to be willing to ride with them to the end.
15:19You'd be getting zero stars on my ride-or-die app.
15:22Zero stars, yeah.
15:24It was actually kind of crazy that, like,
15:26but the people I was bonding with and had, like, a lot of mutual interest
15:29and, you know, with, they very much so became roadblocks in my game
15:35to, you know, stay returning strong and to keep shields around.
15:38The shields that I was trying to keep became bigger threats
15:41for the people I was riding or dying with or killing.
15:45Terminating.
15:46I don't know how to put that nicely.
15:47Like, I don't regret my decisions.
15:50Like, it was really tough to let those people go.
15:53But I think it showed that, you know, I was out here.
15:55I played, I was playing maturely.
15:58I played with my head and not my heart.
16:00And, like, when these people were essentially making their own decisions
16:03and going a different way, it's like, well, for my game,
16:06I'm not going to jeopardize, I'm not going to hate to make friends.
16:09I didn't leave my wife or daughter at home for a third time to not,
16:13you know, rewrite my legacy.
16:15And when it came down to it, like, when these people are pivoting
16:18in a different direction, I'm like, well, I need to pivot as well.
16:21And it became really hard because, you know, letting people like Harry go,
16:25like Paula, who I thought was in my closest alliance at the start,
16:29Lottie, who was, like, one of my best friends out there,
16:33and then Rich, like, my proudest apprentice.
16:36Like, it was really tough.
16:38It was littered with people.
16:39Littered with corpses.
16:40Yeah.
16:41Crazy.
16:41But, like, you know, I made those decisions and those people went home,
16:47but, like, I didn't, I was constantly going into damage control,
16:52but it never completely derailed my game,
16:54and I managed to maintain a position of control and power from my game.
16:58So it was an interesting concept that I fumbled my way through,
17:03but it worked really well for me.
17:04If you are playing with Simon on a fourth season, anyone,
17:07and he tells you to be his ride or die, strap on that seatbelt.
17:12Well, you know what?
17:13You don't have to listen to Nick because I am retiring.
17:16I have officially hung up the buff and am done for Australian Survivor.
17:21It has been an amazing journey, an amazing ride, but it's time to pull my finger out and put some
17:27energy into,
17:28you know, family and, you know, friends and the people around me who have been so supportive of my big,
17:34crazy journeys.
17:35But, you know, after a hundred days, after having my redemption, after playing like I have,
17:40it's, yeah, it's time to hang up the buff.
17:42That's sad to hear because you have brought so much to this show.
17:45You know, the memes, the fix your face, the severe case of bottomness, the challenge acumen and the challenge beastness
17:53that you have shown.
17:54You have your fingerprints all over the seasoned history of the show.
17:58Like I wanted to actually prove that I could play this game and I was more than just a meme
18:02or, you know, George's punching bag.
18:05Like, you know, I wanted to show that I actually had to kick it with the best of them.
18:09And I really felt like I got that this year.
18:13Like when I spoke to my wife, I wanted to be able to have that conversation with her and be
18:17like,
18:18the sacrifice was worth it.
18:20I have cleared my name.
18:21I have done it.
18:22I have played well.
18:23I am not just the real, I'm not, I'm more than real.
18:27Redemption has been served.
18:29Well done.
18:30Now we have a little game to play.
18:33And it is called Interrogation.
18:36So we are going to ask you a series of spicy questions that you may not want to answer.
18:43So if there is one that you don't want to answer, you can play the immunity idol.
18:49Okay, that's great.
18:50And I can confirm that this is a real idol.
18:54Oh, fantastic.
18:56So these are quick fire questions.
18:58If there's one you don't want to answer, you let me know.
19:00But every question after that, you will have to answer.
19:03So use it wisely.
19:05Are you ready?
19:05Let's go.
19:06Who is the one person that you would hate to see win?
19:09Oh, Loz now.
19:12I think that like, yeah, Loz.
19:13Lock it in.
19:14Who is most likely to stab you in the back?
19:17Brooke or Harry?
19:19Like, return, returnees.
19:21They're, you know, ruthless.
19:22Of course.
19:22Ice Queen is back in business.
19:25Back.
19:25Yeah, it's great.
19:26Out of all the players currently in the game, who does not deserve to be there?
19:31I hate that question.
19:32Oh.
19:33Deserve is such a hard one.
19:35Cold, cold, cold.
19:36Um.
19:42Wow, really struggling with the concept of quick fire, son.
19:45I know, I know.
19:46I think Sal.
19:47I think Sal.
19:47Who smelt the worst?
19:49Smelt the worst.
19:50Oh, Loz.
19:51She's popping a few here.
19:52Who was the easiest to manipulate?
19:54Oh, easiest to manipulate?
19:56Just newbies.
19:57It's like, I've said it once, I've said it again.
19:59It's like, you know, it's unfair.
20:01It's like shooting fish in a barrel playing with newbies sometimes.
20:03So, yeah, it's just such an advantage playing the game, like before, and understanding it,
20:09and loving it, and being a fan of it.
20:10They tie it all together.
20:11Just newbies in general.
20:14Cannondina.
20:14Which of the other returnees didn't deserve our second or third chance?
20:23I think they all did.
20:24But if I had to pick one, let's go Dusty Harry.
20:29Like, instead of not Dirty Harry, Dusty Harry.
20:33Took a while to blow the cobwebs out and overplay it early.
20:36So, sorry, brother.
20:37Oh, no.
20:38Oh, no.
20:39Who do you think would be the most bitter juror?
20:42Bitter juror.
20:43There's going to be people who are still in the game, or people who are on the jury already.
20:48Hypothetically, I think from some of the reactions I've seen, maybe flesh.
20:51Of all the players you've ever played with, other than George, who is the most annoying?
20:56It's all seasons.
20:57It's probably been Loz for me.
20:59Okay, that leads us to our final question, which is always the hardest.
21:03But you haven't used your idol yet, but you can't use it on this question because it's too hard.
21:08Well, you know what I was going to do?
21:10I'm like, you know what, I never managed to play an idol correctly.
21:12Why go out on the end by doing it now?
21:16Well, you successfully didn't use it.
21:18Yeah, yes.
21:19And now you have to answer.
21:20Who do you like better?
21:22Myself or Nick?
21:26Oh, that's really tough.
21:30Shani is the coolest person that I have ever met in person and ever hung out with.
21:35But Nick, the OG snake, is someone who inspired me as a game player, will take the cake.
21:42I finally got one.
21:43I finally got one.
21:44Oh my God.
21:45Yeah.
21:47Well, interesting choices.
21:50Perfect.
21:50You have survived the interrogation.
21:53Well done.
21:54Well done.
21:54I'm really glad.
21:55We are extremely grateful that you had the chance to come and chat to us.
21:59Thank you so much.
22:00You have been amazing.
22:01Can't wait to see you on that jury.
22:03And yeah, watch the rest of the season unfold.
22:06Thank you so much.
22:07This has been an absolute dream of mine.
22:09And, you know, as a couple of ex-players that have inspired me to, you know, play as hard
22:14as I can and to enjoy the experience and take everything I can from this game.
22:20But to the fans, the community, the ex-players, the future players, you have made this little
22:27fanboy's absolute dream come true and I can't thank you enough.
22:31Like this game has given me so much and I can't wait to see how much more it has to
22:35give for all of you out there.
22:37Awesome.
22:37Thank you so much, Simon.
22:38You should be so proud of yourself.
22:40Welcome to The 100 Club.
22:42So good.
22:43So good to get there.
22:45All right.
22:45See you guys.
22:45Bye, Simon.
22:46Bye.
22:47All right.
22:48Well, we'll be back here next episode to chat to the next member of the jury on an epic
22:54season of Australian Survivor.
22:56Adios.
