00:00A major dating app just got caught sharing your most personal data, including photos, with an AI company.
00:06And the people who funded OkCupid, they were investors at that AI company.
00:11Here's what's happening.
00:12The FTC just settled a lawsuit against OkCupid and its parent company, Match Group,
00:17over secretly sharing user data with an AI firm called Clarify, that's Clarif AI,
00:22without user permission and without any official business relationship between the two companies.
00:27OkCupid told their users their data wouldn't go to third parties.
00:31It went to third parties.
00:32We're talking photos, location data, and more, all shared since 2014.
00:37The FTC says Match actively tried to conceal it.
00:40Also, dating app data isn't just embarrassing if it's leaked.
00:44It can out someone's sexuality, expose a secret relationship, or tell your boss you're on the market.
00:49And Clarify?
00:50Yeah, they do facial recognition.
00:52The FTC says they will go after any company that promises to protect user data and doesn't follow through.
00:57OkCupid says those practices are outdated and don't reflect how they operate today.
01:01The kicker?
01:02There are no fines in this settlement.
01:04So here's that big question.
01:06Would you delete a dating app if you found out it sold your photos to an AI company?
