To be the best you've got to beat the best...

Female sprinters training for CARIFTA were given one last test, before they leave to take part in the Games in Grenada. The mission was simple... defeat national record holder Michelle Lee Ahye. It was easier said than done as you'll soon see.

00:00Sprinter Michelle Lee Ayi is a name known by many in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:04She still holds the national record of 10.82 seconds in the women's 100 meters.
00:09It perhaps came as a shock to see her lining up in the women's 100 meters at the Karifta Prep
00:14Meet held at the history Crawford Stadium.
00:16Was she about to teach the new generation of sprinters something that she's perfected over a decade?
00:22Well, it did not take long before the 33-year-old took flight and attempted to separate herself from the
00:27pack.
00:28The Red Hair flying under the Memphis Pioneers banner.
00:31She completed victory in 11.61 seconds.
00:35Imani Mills coming in second and Zeta Charles at third 11.95 seconds.
00:40Both athletes are members of the Karifta team over in the under-20, 100 meters for women.
00:45J.L. Peters completed victory in a time of 12.02 seconds ahead of Tehila Lewis, 12.55 seconds.
00:53And rising star Eden Shihua also took the time to get a few more steps in ahead of the Karifta
00:59Games in the girls' 200 meters.
01:01She won in 24.43 seconds ahead of Noemi Theodore who gave her good competition and finished in 23.87
01:10seconds.
01:11Laquisha Robley of UTT was third at 24.75 seconds.
01:15And in the boys' under-20, 100 meters, Jaquan Douglas made the best use of his last sprint on home
01:21soil before making the trip to Grenada.
01:24He won the race in 11.07 seconds.
01:27Kamari Diaz, second, 11.14 seconds.
01:30And Isaiah Teasdale, third, 11.36 seconds.
01:34Now, the athletes will aim to remain injury-free and preserve their bodies for what is the 53rd Karifta Games,
01:40which runs from April 4th to the 6th.
