00:05We've got a slight issue with the teabag situation.
00:09What's that?
00:09No, there isn't any.
00:10You drink a lot of tea because if you're into your ready-salted crisps.
00:14Oh, I love a ready-salted crisps.
00:15But they make you very thirsty.
00:17Oh, do they?
00:17Oh, is that the reason why?
00:19Yeah.
00:19That's why all the teabags have mysteriously disappeared.
00:23I think I'm going to try a ready-salted-crisps diet.
00:26Yeah.
00:27What do you reckon?
00:49El m谩s emocionante...
00:52Oh, ahora que es un caro.
00:54Naughty car.
00:55El m谩s surprising, classic cars.
00:58Es muy you.
00:59Oh, I love it.
01:01Vamos a comprarlos, fixlos,
01:06y selllos por un poco de dinero.
01:09Un buen earner.
01:11Ah, hey.
01:12Este es Shed and Buried, classic cars.
01:19We're off to Bristol, in our faithful Landy, in search of a classic car.
01:25We're back on the road, Fuzzer.
01:27OK.
01:28Right.
01:28Which is fantastic for a nice little earner.
01:31And it's really great that you've got rid of the Land Rover and got something a bit quicker.
01:37Oh.
01:38No, no.
01:39Listen, I am going to try and get something a little bit different.
01:44What about a Range Rover Classic?
01:46Bit thirsty, though.
01:48No.
01:49I don't want a Range Rover Classic.
01:51Right.
01:51Where are we going, then?
01:52Come on.
01:53We're going to just outside of Bristol.
01:56We are going to see Robert.
01:59He has a penchant for post-war British saloon cars.
02:04I would expect things like Rovers, Austins, Morrises, all those kinds of things.
02:11Maybe a Vauxhall thrown in there.
02:12Who knows?
02:13Perhaps some trinketry, trinketry.
02:14What other people would call it, spare parts.
02:17Yes, that's right.
02:19Which you will need for your British post-war cars.
02:23Yeah, boxes of goodness.
02:25Yeah.
02:25And, you know, it's an ongoing hobby.
02:27Every journey is an adventure.
02:29Well, especially in something like this.
02:33Whether we come back with an Austin, a Morris, or a twisted arm and a Range Rover Classic,
02:39who knows?
02:40But, Brizal, here we come.
02:44Now, Rob, tell me, I've never seen one of those, so I can't wait to have a Rummage.
02:50But are you into British cars, then?
02:52Is that what it is?
02:53Yes.
02:54Yes.
02:54Why was that?
02:55When you were a kid?
02:56When I was a kid, yes.
02:58I've still got my father's MG over there.
03:02And my MG Y-Type there.
03:04That was my first car at university.
03:06Fantastic.
03:07Oh, so that's when you got the bug for them?
03:09Yes.
03:09I used to drive up and down to Sheffield in the Y-Type.
03:13Yeah, no problem at all.
03:14Never broke down.
03:15Hey, Rob, so look, we'll have a Rummage.
03:17Yeah?
03:18Yeah.
03:18We'll call you in on a few things.
03:19Okay.
03:19But, hopefully, at the end of it, we might have a little bit of a haggle.
03:23Okay, we'll have a look round, anyway.
03:26Thanks, mate.
03:26All right.
03:26I think we start right here, actually.
03:28I'll make sure he behaves himself as well.
03:30All right, Rob, thanks so much, mate.
03:32All right, see you later.
03:33I'll disappear.
03:35So where better to start than this?
03:39Right, now, here we have an Austin Atlantic.
03:42Now, this is a classic case of a British manufacturer making something for a perceived market that they knew nothing
03:51about.
03:54Released in 1949, the Atlantic was aimed solidly at the U.S. market, with almost half of its production run
04:02heading stateside.
04:04Fewer than 8,000 Atlantics were built, and hardly any survive.
04:10This is a British idea of an American car.
04:13So they came up with this, and put underneath it a 2.6-litre Austin-Healey-type engine.
04:19Wow, that's good, isn't it?
04:20Yeah, that's great.
04:21But it's absolutely puny compared to all the American cars.
04:26If you think of these in the early 1950s versus your massive, great, big U6s and V8s kind of thing.
04:34This was just like a wheezy old man going down the road, coughing away as it went along.
04:42But I love it.
04:42Look, it's got that cyclops middle.
04:44Who thought that would be a good idea?
04:46Well, it's like a pimple on the nose, isn't it?
04:48It is.
04:49I must say, man, it does row my boat.
04:52Yeah.
04:53I think it's lovely.
04:54It is.
04:54It is.
04:55And you're unlikely to see another one very soon.
04:58Yeah, I can imagine.
05:00Yeah.
05:00Beautiful.
05:01Hey, look, OK, so that is definitely a possibility.
05:03Let's have a good look around the front of this, what's this, a Riley?
05:07It's a Riley RM.
05:07Yeah, go on.
05:08Yeah.
05:10The Riley next door hails from the same period, but it's much more conventional looking and
05:16was solidly aimed at the British market.
05:21Look, mate, look at the interior.
05:22I mean, that is quality.
05:24That is old England right there.
05:26It is.
05:27Yeah, it is.
05:28And that's why we love it.
05:28Yeah, hand-built and extremely expensive.
05:32Very difficult to restore, but this one looks like it has been restored.
05:36But look at these little details, like these wind deflectors, rear-hinged front doors.
05:42What a beautiful interior.
05:43That's just divine.
05:44Mate, I just, I mean, I could live in there.
05:49Moving outside, there's something very different.
05:52A quintessentially 1970s saloon.
05:57What are you going down there for?
05:58Hey?
05:59Oh, what a shame.
06:00Oh.
06:00What?
06:01It's immaculate.
06:02Oh, not on the top, yeah, but underneath.
06:05Oh, what a shame.
06:06Hang on a second.
06:07What?
06:08Come on, then.
06:09Come out with it, then.
06:10What are you thinking?
06:12It's a marina.
06:15Released in 1971, the Morris Marina stayed in production for the rest of the decade.
06:22Though much reviled today, at the time, it was hugely popular, with more than a million
06:28cars built in a range of colours, from rambling rose to lime-twist green.
06:35It's a moment in time.
06:37Yeah.
06:38That looks as though it's been frozen, if you see what I mean.
06:41Yes.
06:41Because from what I can see, the bodywork, and look at the interior, man.
06:45It's mint.
06:47This is a classic that has emerged, in my view.
06:50Why do you not like them?
06:51Well, because really what we have here is a Morris Minor with a different body on it.
06:58But don't you think it's just so cool?
07:00We could just relive the 70s right there, man.
07:03I know what's happening here.
07:05Hey, look at this Rover 60.
07:07That's quite a rare one, isn't it?
07:08Okay, come on, then.
07:09Come on, then.
07:10Okay, now.
07:11All right, let's move across.
07:12This is the four-cylinder version of the P4 Rover.
07:17Okay.
07:18Once it gets up to speed, this would bowl along quite nicely.
07:22It's just that, I'm sorry, the marina, because that is so awful, and so ugly, and the colour
07:29is heinous, I utterly love it.
07:32Right, okay, can we make a deal here?
07:35If we do end up having the marina, you've got to wear some brightly coloured flares.
07:43Oh, I will.
07:44Yeah, and a matching shirt.
07:45Okay, mate, you've got me.
07:47All right.
07:49Before I take up Fuzzy's dare, there's plenty more to see.
07:54He's got a miniature caravan.
07:56I think this is early post-war optimism.
08:02A reliant...
08:05What's that for?
08:07It's a scimitar.
08:08Oh, is it?
08:11And most surprising of all, hiding behind Rob's tyre mountain, a second Atlantic.
08:19You know what I said a bit earlier?
08:21Yeah.
08:21You're not likely to see enough of those in a hurry.
08:24But I have to tell you, mate, I quite like it in black.
08:28This is a lovely thing.
08:30I'd like to know why somebody would have two Austin Atlantics.
08:34Do you know what?
08:35Yeah.
08:35We're going to find out.
08:36Go on.
08:37Rob.
08:37Rob, come on in, baby.
08:39Yeah.
08:40Now, listen.
08:42I've never seen an Austin Atlantic.
08:44I've now seen two.
08:46Fuzz wants to know why.
08:49Well, I've had several other ones as well.
08:51Oh, really?
08:52Yes.
08:52This particular one, when it was new, it went to South Africa.
08:56Oh, right.
08:57That's why it's remarkably rust-free and original.
09:00Believe it or not, that will clean up very well because it's good paint.
09:05Does she run?
09:05She needs a new fuel pump.
09:08Okay.
09:09Okay.
09:09But yeah, she runs fine.
09:11According to some authorities, there are only 65 of them left.
09:16I think about 10 years ago, there was a sale down in Devon and that chap had about six.
09:22Six of them?
09:24Okay.
09:24Yeah.
09:24So we had 10% of them there.
09:26Did you really?
09:27I've got two.
09:27How cool is that?
09:29Yeah.
09:29That's amazing.
09:30These are brilliant though.
09:31Love it.
09:31Hey, mate.
09:32Thanks for that.
09:32Look, good.
09:33We just might have a quick look at this van and then we'll come and have a vehicle.
09:35Yeah, you're welcome.
09:36All right.
09:36We'll see you in a bit.
09:37Okay.
09:37All right, mate.
09:39Rob's last British bulldog is this bijou, tiny-engined Ford Thames van.
09:45This is the sort of van that people used to use on local deliveries in towns and cities
09:51around the UK for many, many years.
09:55What a beautiful little thing.
09:56I love it.
09:57Okay, so look, what have we got here?
09:59I think that Black Atlantic, it looks a little more down at heel.
10:03Yeah.
10:03It needs a couple of things doing to it.
10:04I do like the Rover 60, the Rover P4.
10:08That's a big favourite of mine.
10:10And the Marina.
10:10And the Marina.
10:12Okay.
10:12I think that's a nice little earner.
10:15It could well be because-
10:16At the right price.
10:17Yeah.
10:17Well, that's the thing, isn't it?
10:18So you've got to find somebody who really wants to relive their miserable youth.
10:26I know, just the person.
10:28Do you?
10:29Guy.
10:31Shall we go and see Rob?
10:32Yeah, he sang out with you, didn't he?
10:34Yeah, exactly.
10:41Let's just get a sighting lap first, as they say.
10:43Now, the Red Atlantic, tell me about that, price-wise.
10:47I did see one in an auction a couple of months ago.
10:51Yes.
10:51And I think that made about 12 grand.
10:53But I would say about 9,000.
10:57Okay.
10:58All right.
10:58Okay.
10:59Look, moving on then, we have behind you what I think is the most beautiful marina.
11:05That's the original lime flower colour with matching lime flower trim.
11:10How much would that be?
11:126,000.
11:136 grand?
11:14Yeah.
11:15All right.
11:15And you won't find another one.
11:17No, no.
11:17No, I hope not.
11:18Let's talk about another one.
11:19Let's just talk Black Atlantic in there.
11:21Yeah.
11:21How much would that be?
11:238,000.
11:24And that would be a bargain for one of those.
11:27All right.
11:28Yeah.
11:28She's got a very good engine, clutch and so on is fine.
11:33She just needs the fuel sorted out.
11:35Yeah.
11:35What about 7 grand?
11:377 and a half.
11:40Be careful, Henry.
11:54We're down in Bristol with Rob and his terrific collection of British cars.
11:59We've bid 7 grand on a rare Austin Atlantic, but he wants 7 and a half.
12:07Would you split the difference at 7,250?
12:10Oh, go on then.
12:12All right.
12:13Oh, dear.
12:13Okay.
12:14Well done, Rob.
12:14I've been robbed.
12:15Yeah, you have.
12:16It'll go on the stolen list.
12:17It will.
12:18Yeah, you're right.
12:21Next day, back at the shed, we show Alan and Skid our swag.
12:28What do you reckon?
12:30I think this has piqued their interest.
12:33Ah-ha-ha.
12:35Isn't that absolutely marvellous?
12:37Oh, you'll like it then.
12:38Marvellous.
12:39Yeah, there we are.
12:40They wouldn't have said that with a marina, would they?
12:42No, they wouldn't have.
12:43No, no, no.
12:44It's got a lot of chrome on it, hasn't it?
12:45It's got a lot of chrome.
12:46Well, it could have, yeah.
12:47And it does have that transatlantic styling.
12:50It does.
12:51As a British attempt at Americana, I think this is absolutely...
12:56Same here.
12:56I just love the double logo.
13:01But also, the interior is quite luxurious as well.
13:05Yeah.
13:05A bench seat in the front.
13:07Yeah.
13:07Yeah.
13:08It's lovely.
13:09So, look, that's the good bit.
13:11The bad bit, bumpers.
13:13Yeah.
13:13No brakes.
13:14Yeah.
13:14Doesn't go.
13:15That's right.
13:16And it needs a complete fills clean.
13:19Can I also mention that the windscreen wipers are a bit wrong?
13:22And maybe a little bit of trim work as well?
13:25A little bit of spray glue?
13:26Yes.
13:26And then while we're doing that, we can think about our endeavour, what we're going to do with it.
13:30Perhaps we should go to an American diner.
13:32It's probably never seen America when it should have done.
13:35Yes.
13:36Okay, well, look, always on.
13:37Why don't we just try and get it going?
13:39Yeah.
13:42First stage, pop the bonnet.
13:46Okay, we're in.
13:48And start the list.
13:50Oh, the first thing I noticed is quite badly and he's changing.
13:54And, of course, we need a battery in here and fuel supply.
14:01Alan works on the cabling.
14:03This is quite important because it feeds all the electrical pulses from the coil to the distributor.
14:08Yeah, sure.
14:10Give this a little bit of heat.
14:12And Fuzz uses a blowtorch to loosen a carburettor piston.
14:16There we are.
14:18Look at that.
14:19That's freed off.
14:22Before installing a new battery and a temporary fuel tank.
14:29Then I make a well-timed return.
14:33Okay, give it a go then.
14:34Here we go.
14:34You ready, Al?
14:35Yeah.
14:41Holy moly!
14:43This is wonderful news.
14:45In fact, I might do a little jig.
14:50Before we try it out, we need to top up the radiator.
14:55All right, slob it in, mate.
14:57Okay.
14:57And then we'll cruise.
14:59As we've got no brakes, it's probably best to just cruise the fields.
15:02What do you think?
15:03Yeah.
15:03Yeah.
15:04I think so, yeah, for now.
15:05All right, mate.
15:06But I cannot believe how amazing this is.
15:10Until this happens.
15:12The water's pouring out as quick as I'm pouring it in.
15:15What?
15:15I can't feel the tap.
15:16Oh, hold on.
15:17What?
15:18There's a core plug missing.
15:20Oh, no.
15:21Do you know what a core plug is?
15:23Don't.
15:23One more word from you, pal.
15:25Okay, then let me explain if you don't know.
15:27No, I do know.
15:29He's claiming he does know.
15:31Sorry, a core plug is there to pop out if the engine freezes.
15:35That's great.
15:36Yeah, that is correct.
15:37Yeah.
15:38Well, yours is gone.
15:40I will acquire what is necessary.
15:42Okay.
15:43What are we going to do with that, then?
15:45Put it back in the bottle.
15:46I'll keep it for when we get the core plug.
15:50Is he going up?
15:51Look.
15:52See, he's just walked off again.
15:53Yeah, tail between his legs.
15:54Yeah, that's it.
15:55Yeah.
15:57So, another couple of things to order.
16:00But two days later, the postman's come and the shopping's in.
16:05Fuzz, look.
16:06You got all the bits.
16:07They're very right.
16:08I've just mugged Henry off his desk of all his bits.
16:13Without more ado, Fuzz jacks up the car.
16:18And while Guy preps for a new fuel pump,
16:22Fuzz gets straight to work on the brakes.
16:26A little bit of a wriggle, and there's our drum off, and there are our wheel cylinders.
16:34Now, it's these that we're going to replace.
16:38The brake cylinders should move the brake shoes in and out, but the old ones are seized.
16:46I doubt that these would have been saveable.
16:49So, they're in the bin.
16:53And talking of the bin, Skid's proving that some mothers do have them.
17:01Fuzz.
17:01Yeah?
17:02I've just broken the wing mirror.
17:04How have you done that?
17:05I was leaning over, trying to get at the fuel pump mount that's pretty inaccessible and lent on it.
17:09Oh, no.
17:11So, which bit's it broken off from?
17:12The ball.
17:14Oh, I want to see.
17:15I've broken the shaft.
17:16Oh, dear.
17:17Don't tell Henry.
17:19So, another job for the list.
17:21But the new brake cylinders are a neat fit.
17:26Back on goes the drum and the wheel itself.
17:31Right.
17:32That's that horrible job finished.
17:34Now, just to bleed the brakes.
17:39Frank Spencer, meanwhile, has stripped off to tackle the popped core plugs.
17:45I've got to lift my skirt to get up here.
17:48Oh, now there's another wing mirror.
17:49I don't want to break that as well.
17:50Yeah, don't bust that one off.
17:53To get at the radiator, he needs to move the dynamo.
17:57It's such a struggle that he has to call in fuzz.
18:04There we go.
18:05There we are.
18:06This has taken me two hours.
18:08Yeah.
18:08I've had to strip down to a sleeved t-shirt because I couldn't get my hand in with a boiler
18:13suit on.
18:14Yeah, well, I've just got it out.
18:15It took me two minutes.
18:16Yeah, but I've done all the hard work.
18:20Replacing the missing core plug shouldn't take quite so long.
18:24Skid cleans the hole and then summons fuzz.
18:28There's the core plug that we've been provided.
18:31Now, the idea with the core plug is to put it into the little hole, the little aperture there and
18:39then tap it with a hammer like that and that just spreads it out.
18:42Flattens it and makes it a bigger circumference.
18:44Yes, exactly.
18:44And we put a little bit of this on to seal it.
18:47Yes, but not so much it holds it in.
18:49If it freezes, it'll come out again.
18:52Yes, and if the coolant freezes, it needs to go somewhere.
18:55It needs to expand.
18:56I'm with you.
18:56And that's what these plugs are for.
18:57They're meant to push out in an emergency.
18:59And clearly, this one's done its job.
19:02Yes, that's popped out and gone down the road.
19:07Fuzz commandeers a socket head to help fit the new core plug and then hands back to Skid.
19:14I've got to put the dynamo back on.
19:17Yep, should be easy now.
19:18Oh, it's very easy getting stuff apart.
19:20It's the getting it back together.
19:22Best of luck, mate.
19:23Yeah, thank you, Fuzz.
19:26In the afternoon, while Jelly works on her suntan, Fuzz continues his overhaul of the brake system.
19:35Hydraulic brakes have been around since the 30s.
19:38Only trouble is, the fluid is easily contaminated with air bubbles, making your brakes spongy.
19:45OK, so are you in, Skid?
19:47I'm in.
19:48What I'd like you to do...
19:49Yes?
19:51...is on and off the foot brake, please.
19:54Up.
19:56Down.
19:59The hard bit is draining the old stuff without letting any air back in.
20:04Fuzz has an ingenious solution.
20:07What I've done is I've screwed a bolt into the end of this tube and then cut a little slit
20:12in the tube.
20:14When I've put the tube over the bleed nipple, what happens is when Skid presses the pedal down,
20:20it forces fluid out of the slit, but when he takes his foot off the pedal, the slit closes up
20:27and so no air flows back in the other way.
20:30I'm still pumping.
20:33It's a dirty job, but the colour of the fluid shows it's well past its prime, not that everyone appreciates
20:40it.
20:41The pumping action has sent Jellybean to sleep.
20:46Up, up, down, down.
20:51Up, up, down, down.
20:52After 20 minutes, Skid's leg has gone to sleep too, but the old liquid's all drained out.
21:00I reckon that's us there.
21:02All right, so now we've got stop to go with the go.
21:06Ok, mate
21:10So a good day on the mechanicals
21:12But still plenty to do
21:14We want to head for the diner next weekend
21:16But will it be as easy
21:18To sort the bumpers
21:19As it was the brakes
21:34Me and Alan have been away
21:36But Fuzz and Skid
21:38Have been going great guns on the Atlantic
21:42Up
21:44Down
21:47Mechanically
21:47It's almost sorted
21:49But cosmetically
21:50There's a lot to be desired
21:53Can I just draw your attention then
21:55We need the hubcaps put on
21:57The spats put on
21:58Also now the bumpers
22:00I mean what we could do
22:02Is just try burnishing them with a wire wheel
22:05Do something anyway
22:06Get that loose chrome
22:07Get some of the rust away from there
22:09If you re-chrome them
22:10You'd lose money
22:11Because it won't add the value to the car
22:14That the chrome will cost
22:15Well I've had some bumpers done recently
22:17As you know
22:18And they were about 拢1,600
22:19Wow
22:20So I really think that would negate our profit
22:23Well look
22:24What's a great shame
22:25Is we can't do the bumpers today
22:27Because of the weather
22:28I don't mind working out in this a little bit
22:31It might be slightly inclement
22:33Yeah so get your waterproof son and join us
22:35Oh hang on
22:36Oh that's a shame
22:38Hello
22:39Oh here we go
22:40Gone again
22:41It looks like I was having the fun again
22:42Yeah
22:43There's one other thing I want to do as well
22:44What?
22:45I want to sort out the windscreen wipers
22:49So we've got a second to do list
22:51Starting with the wipers
22:53I'm a bit fussy about my wipers
22:55Now on a car of this age
22:57These should just be straight
22:59So what I'm going to do
23:01I'm going to take both wipers off
23:02And I'm going to straighten out these little kinks
23:05So that they're both pointing arrows straight
23:08As they really ought to be on a car of this age
23:14Let's just get that off
23:16And then because it's raining
23:18I'm going to go inside
23:20Into a shed in the dry
23:22And do the rest of the job there
23:29Oh hold on
23:30Wait a minute
23:31What's going on here?
23:32I haven't seen this before
23:34I've got something to admit to you
23:36Yeah
23:36The reason why I haven't been around
23:39Swimming through the Atlantic
23:41Yeah
23:42Oh I see
23:43Very good
23:44Very good
23:44It's because
23:45I got a phone call
23:47And I had to go slightly up north
23:48Yeah
23:49To acquire this
23:51This motorcycle
23:52It's a little rally moped
23:54I've never ever seen one
23:55And I'll tell you what
23:56John Lennon had one of these
23:58Really?
23:59I think these are very rare
24:00They must be
24:00Because I've never seen one
24:01I've never seen one
24:05Well Fuzz heats up the wipers
24:07To bend them back into shape
24:08Me and Skid
24:09Talk high level strategy
24:12What are we going to do?
24:13Are we going to do the usual test for a spa?
24:15Or are we just going to go?
24:16I know you
24:16You're going to want to go cheap
24:17Then it won't run
24:18And then we'll look for a spa
24:19You're going to have to pedal
24:20Because of me lungs
24:22Fortunately
24:23Our wipers are steel
24:24With no plastic in sight
24:26So within a few minutes
24:28The kinks
24:29Are all straightened out
24:32Oh sorry
24:33Oh have you done that?
24:34Go on
24:34Look at that
24:35See nice and straight
24:36As opposed to kinky
24:38Rock hard
24:40Dead straight
24:42That's better
24:43It's going to make a massive difference
24:44To the top speed of the car
24:46Alright get on
24:47Okay
24:47Do you put those over there
24:49And then give us a pedal?
24:50Alright
24:52So without more ado
24:54We co-op Fuzz
25:00Uh oh
25:02That went really well
25:05It might be John Lennon's favourite moped
25:08But we ain't got a ticket to ride
25:11But after Fuzz plums in a new fuel pipe
25:15And skid blow torches clean
25:17The dirty spark plug
25:19We go again
25:24Yes
25:25Oh yes
25:26Look at the whole engine move
25:27Look at that
25:35As you accelerate
25:36The engine goes like that
25:38And it's on springs
25:39How cool is that?
25:41But isn't it amazing mate?
25:42That runs beautifully
25:43Isn't it? It's beautiful
25:44Oh how glorious
25:45Yeah
25:46I might just reach for the tea again
25:51Back outside
25:53Fuzz fits some new blades
25:55And then reinstalls
25:56The kink free wipers
26:00Oh yes
26:01There you go you see
26:04Working windscreen wipers
26:09Next on the to-do list
26:10Prep the bumpers for future painting
26:15What are you going to do with that?
26:16I'm going to do some of this lighter speckledy stuff
26:19Alright
26:19And Fuzz and I are having a polish off
26:21He is going aggressive
26:22Oh my god
26:23On the really bad stuff
26:24That's there
26:25Yeah I'm going to have a little look over this way
26:26And see
26:27Well obviously get all the loose chrome off first
26:29Okay
26:29And then have a just a little
26:31A little tease
26:32A little uh
26:32I have a more aggressive disc
26:34Waiting in the wings
26:36Yeah
26:36If Fuzz struggles with that
26:38Well all I can say is
26:39Before it starts running again
26:41Let the fun begin
26:46Skid starts gently with a soft mop
26:48But it doesn't make much of an impact
26:53Hey skid
26:56If you're going to paint that
26:57You need a keyed surface don't you
26:59So you need it to be rougher than that
27:01So let's get vicious
27:04Bruiser Fuzz goes in hard with a wire brush
27:09Is this wise?
27:11Well
27:11Yeah it is
27:12It's all going to come off hasn't it?
27:14Yeah it has
27:16And follows up with a polishing drill bit
27:19This is good for the hard to get at areas
27:23Yeah
27:25Before skid swaps the discs on his angle grinder
27:28And goes in even harder
27:31It's looking good
27:32So that was my side
27:34And now
27:35He's doing it
27:36I know he's doing all of it
27:37Yeah
27:38Yeah
27:38Can you leave him to it?
27:40Yeah
27:40Come on
27:50Where have they gone?
27:54Having sloped off for a quick cup of tea
27:57Fuzz comes back
27:58With a bright idea
28:00Skid
28:00Yeah
28:01I'm just looking underneath here
28:02I reckon I can have this bumper off in five minutes
28:04And it's going to save us in the long run I reckon
28:07It will do because I'm worried about the body work of the car
28:10Yeah exactly
28:11And also if we're going to paint it we need to get in behind
28:13Yeah
28:14Okay
28:14Come on then
28:15I'll just get them off
28:18The bumper is held on by a handful of bolts
28:22Oh that's perfect
28:24There you go
28:26Within five minutes the whole thing is off
28:29In easy to manage pieces
28:33What's great now is we can take all this into the shed
28:35Yeah
28:36Who cares about the rain?
28:41Next day it's still showering
28:43But the good news is
28:45Fuzz has got the rear bumpers off as well
28:47And Alan's back from a brief excursion
28:52I must say while I've been away I've done a lot of work
28:54Core plugs have gone in
28:56Brakes
28:56Yeah brakes have done
28:57Sort of the fuel pump
28:58Yeah and all you've done
28:59Broke the mirror
29:00Yeah and you've gone to Cornwall for your holiday
29:02I have it's very nice
29:03Oh it's lovely to have you back mate
29:04Okay pedal up with the wing mirror
29:06I'm right you over here
29:10With the whole team in town
29:12We get really busy
29:15Skib grinds off the rust and crud from the bumpers
29:19Fuzz fits the new fuel pump
29:23There we go
29:24Nice and secure
29:25Excellent
29:28And Alan does a repair shop on the mirror
29:33What I've done is I've removed the three screws
29:35To take this clamp off the back
29:37Look this will reveal the little pivot inside
29:39This is what's broken off the car
29:40I can drill a hole in there and thread it
29:42Screw that screw into there like that
29:44And screw that back into the car
29:45Lock it up tight and it should work
29:47As long as Skib doesn't lean on it and break it again
29:49We'll be in business
29:52The pivot's made from Mazac
29:54A metal alloy that was popular in the 1940s
29:58It's brittle so it requires careful handling
30:02When you heat it up it runs very very fluid like water
30:04So you can make very intricate shapes with it by putting it into moulds
30:07But one of its drawbacks is it's very brittle so it snaps easily
30:11Once he's drilled a hole then Alan uses a tapping tool to create a new screw thread
30:18Look at that that's just perfect
30:22Next stage is to drill a matching hole and tap a matching thread into the car's fixing point
30:29That's a thread cut in there so now this should hopefully screw on nicely
30:34Alan reattaches the gloss and we have a fully functioning fully pivoting wing mirror
30:41There we go just perfect
30:47Skid meanwhile has been doing sterling work on the bumpers
30:51Let's have a look
30:53There's that one and that was quite rusty in the middle
30:56Look I've gone through to the nickel
30:57But I quite like that
30:59This one's really nice
31:01Look that's alright again
31:03Mate this is just a transformation
31:05And this was the really scabby one
31:07Yeah
31:07That was horrendous
31:09I love the patina on it
31:11There's more work to do
31:12But even in their raw state they look great
31:16Anyone who's the next owner of this may well decide that they want to chrome it
31:21Yeah
31:22But in the meantime we can preserve them with a little bit of lacquer
31:25And I think your linishing looks beautiful
31:30But if it's one step forward on the bumpers it's one step backwards on the steering
31:36Al just mentioned that I needed to straighten up the wheels at the front here
31:42So what I've found I've just had a look underneath and it looks like somebody has towed this car using
31:50this track rod
31:52They're absolutely bananered
31:54So we're going to have to take that off and straighten it out
31:58It's not crash damage anyway is it because it's bent the wrong way
32:01No this has been towed out of somewhere
32:02Oh right
32:03And but
32:04And we've bent the
32:06Hold on I don't think we have you towed this anywhere
32:09I've just got to go in here for us quite a sec
32:11Oh there we are
32:12Actually no genuinely I don't think it is me
32:13There's an admission
32:14I don't think it is me
32:18I'll keep shtum about the towing
32:21But at least the track rod is easy to remove
32:26Yeah somebody has really really put some effort into moving this car
32:31Yeah
32:31When it had seized brakes
32:32Seized brakes yeah of course
32:36Maybe Frank Spencer's got a twin
32:42But once it's been blown bent and banged into shape
32:48The track rod is as good as new
32:52That's turned out really well
32:53Right cooling down now I'll go and give it a final quench
33:02The day finishes with skid spraying a coat of lacquer on the bumpers
33:07And Fuzz checking that the new fuel pump is running sweetly
33:13Cool
33:15I think we can call that a job well done
33:18Yeah yeah definitely
33:19Excellent
33:20Right
33:23The plan is to take our Atlantic to an all American diner
33:28But bearing in mind we haven't even managed to get it up we drive
33:32Will it survive its first road test?
33:48We had a great day yesterday but there's still plenty to do before we take our Atlantic for a date
33:55at the diner
33:56There we go just perfect
34:00Starting with our linished and lacquered bumpers
34:05Let's fit these
34:06And then we've got to put the spats on
34:08We've got to put the hub caps on
34:10What else have we got to do?
34:12All of the finishing items
34:17While me and Alan do a bit of polishing
34:21I think we've got a good option here in the dry haven't we?
34:23So do I yeah
34:26Fuzz and skid refit the bumpers
34:30The wheel hubs
34:33And finally those spats
34:37And finally those spats
34:38Until by the end of the day our Atlantic's ready for a day out in nearby Bampton
34:44We're first of all going to have a yee-haw milkshake
34:49And then we're going to go and play a very very British but quintessentially Oxfordshire
34:57A local delicacy which is the sport of Aunt Sally
35:02What?
35:03That's that
35:03Exactly
35:04So we're going to experience both cultures in this
35:07Excellent
35:09We are going to make Bampton great again
35:13Hey! Let's go!
35:15Fantastic
35:18And off she goes
35:22Bampton's just a couple of miles away
35:25So it's perfect for our first shakedown run
35:34I think it's running quite nicely don't you?
35:37It's running really well
35:37I think it's as smooth as silt mate
35:43Tell you what the majority of dials seem to be working
35:46Yeah they do
35:46Don't they?
35:47Yeah and there are a plethora of ash receptacles
35:51Oh I know mate
35:52Yeah everybody can smoke
35:54Mum, Dad, Grandma, Grandad, the kids
35:57All the kids
35:58Everywhere you look
36:02The brakes are still bedding in
36:04And the gears are a little graunchy
36:06But for a 70 year old car it's amazing
36:09And in a lot better nick than the local roads
36:16Do you feel that gip?
36:18Oh pothole
36:19Yes
36:19Feel these bits
36:20Wait for it
36:21There's another one
36:2520 minutes and four potholes later
36:28We arrive at culture hit number one
36:31Milkshakes at the drive-in
36:37Can I have please
36:39A strawberry milkshake please?
36:42I'll have the same first
36:43Yeah, strawberry milkshake
36:44Okay, two strawberry milkshakes sorry
36:46Two chocolate Oreos
36:48Yeah
36:48Yeah, two chocolate Oreos as well please
36:50Wonderful
36:51That'll be 拢24
36:52Settlement though
36:54拢24 at the second window
36:56When the Atlantic first appeared in 1949
37:00The average weekly wage was 拢6.14
37:05That's progress
37:07Lovely little motor you've got there
37:08Oh thank you very much
37:09It is actually for sale
37:11Is it?
37:12It is, yeah
37:12Are you interested?
37:14I'm glad you could be
37:14I don't know if it's out of the budget or not though
37:17It's surprisingly, reassuringly low priced isn't it?
37:20拢9,000
37:21拢9,000 to you
37:23I don't mind that
37:24It's the insurance I'm worried about
37:25It's very cheap
37:26Classic insurance
37:27Classic insurance
37:28Oh, there we go
37:30Strawberry with a top on it
37:33Even if we haven't quite made a sale
37:36Milkshakes at the diner
37:37Is just what this car was supposed to be about
37:41There we are, fantastic
37:42This is great
37:43There we are
37:44Thanks mate
37:44Okay, hold on
37:46Okay, thank you very much
37:49Thank you very much
37:51See you later, bye years
37:51Thanks mate, cheers
37:51Fantastic
38:00Hey, so look man
38:01Here we've got
38:02The Austin Atlantic
38:04In front of
38:05A quintessentially American sign
38:08Here in Oxfordshire
38:10That can't be bad, can it?
38:12No
38:12No
38:13I think it looks the part
38:15It does
38:15I think the neon lights
38:17Work very well with this car
38:19Anyway, cheers
38:20Cheers lads
38:21Now look
38:21Cheers
38:21We've experienced America
38:23Yes
38:24Now it's time
38:25To experience
38:26Regional Oxfordshire
38:28Nice
38:32Time for a hat change
38:34Time for a hat change
38:34And a step change
38:35As we move back
38:36Two centuries
38:37To a game that's been played
38:39Since the English Civil War
38:42So from one culture to the next
38:45We are now going to go to the plough
38:47In Alverscote
38:48Yep
38:48Right
38:49Where we are going to experience
38:52Britain at its finest
38:54And so we are going to go and play Aunt Sally
39:04From milkshakes
39:07To sticks
39:09Tom
39:10To sound like
39:11He plays this
39:12He's in a team
39:13So you know how to do this
39:14Yeah
39:15Go on then
39:16You're having a go
39:17Okay so look
39:18That
39:18Is what?
39:20That's a doll
39:20Is that Aunt Sally?
39:22Is that the thing?
39:23Is that the thing?
39:24Yeah that is the Aunt Sally
39:25Oh right okay
39:26It's called a doll
39:27It's called a doll?
39:28Yeah
39:28Right alright
39:29And that goes on the pole up the end there
39:32Then you've got to throw these
39:33Blimey they're quite heavy
39:35Oh they are yes
39:36They are aren't they yeah
39:37Do you throw underarm?
39:38Underarm
39:39What happens if you hit the stick and not the doll?
39:41Doesn't count
39:43So game on
39:45I think we should play front seats
39:47Play back seats
39:48Okay
39:49Okay
39:49So you two are a team
39:51Yeah
39:51And me and Fuzz are a team
39:53And we're both throwing three each
39:55There you go
39:56Right
39:56Three for you
39:57Here we go back seater
39:58Yeah
39:59Go on mate
40:00Oh no
40:00Oh dear
40:01Gone too far
40:02Taking it too far
40:03Before we go any further
40:04What happens if it bounces off?
