00:00I don't understand the dynamic with Mark Vientos.
00:03We all get he had a bad year last year.
00:05We all get he had a terrible spring training.
00:07But he's on the roster.
00:08And in the one at-bat he got in a big spot, he ripped the base head.
00:12And so yesterday felt like the perfect opportunity to get him in a game,
00:16especially over Jared Young, who's a 30-year-old journeyman.
00:20Jared Young was the lead yesterday for you.
00:22Okay, that's after the fact.
00:24But let's talk about before the fact.
00:25Oh, I know.
00:25Look, there is a feel about Mark Vientos that what we saw two seasons ago is who he is.
00:33And last year was an anomaly.
00:35Well, the Mets don't agree because they don't play him.
00:37I mean, from our standpoint, from a viewership standpoint, even a fan standpoint,
00:40you pine for what you saw two years ago when he hit 20 home runs in however many weeks it
00:45was.
00:45And was incredibly clutch in October.
00:47Let's not forget that.
00:48Dude, they were comparing him to Giancarlo Stanton.
00:51This is a baby Giancarlo Stanton.
00:52You remember that comparison?
00:53I was like, he's not that big.
00:54And then you see him, you're like, dude, he is that big.
00:56Like, he has that potential as a righty stick for the Mets.
01:00But the problem is, it feels like they're pigeonholing him into this platoon,
01:06can't-hit-righties type of player.
01:08But his splits don't tell you that.
01:10Give him a chance.
01:11Give him a chance.
01:12That's all I'm asking for.
01:13Yeah, like, I want to make it clear.
01:14I'm not telling you Mark Vientos is going to be the guy from 2024.
01:18I have no idea what he is.
01:19But give him some opportunities.
01:21And last night was a perfect example of it.
01:23You're going to sit Luis Robert Jr., which is not a surprise because Mendy basically told
01:26us that in spring training, that he's going to get days off because they're trying to
01:30get ahead of him getting hurt.
01:32And so I asked him in spring training on that Rico interview I did with him, I said, is he
01:35an everyday player?
01:36And he's like, well, how do you define an everyday player?
01:38Which is code for he's going to sit once or twice a week.
01:41So no problem with sitting Luis Robert Jr. despite his quick start.
01:44But last night was a perfect chance to just get Vientos a game.
01:49And I know it's a righty, but it's Kyle Leahy.
01:52The guys are a converted reliever.
01:55Give Vientos a chance.
01:57I'm not telling you he's a superstar.
01:59I'm just asking that every once in a while, give him some at-bats.
02:04And so what I would do tonight, I'll get ahead of it, is Jorge Polanco, who did have two
02:08hits last night, is dealing with his Achilles issue, give him a day off.
02:11And D.H.
02:12Mark Vientos.
02:14Simple!
02:15I mean, it's simple as that, but it doesn't feel like that's in the cards.
02:19I know!
02:19And he's not playing, he's not going to play clearly every day.
02:22So what is he to you?
02:23Well, to them, he's nothing because he can't play over Jared Young.
