00:00All right, I'm going to give you the lowdown. I got a TomTom podcast on the line right here.
00:03I can call them around to be able to just see how they're doing. How your life's going?
00:06Here you go.
00:07Hi, everybody. We have a strange episode for you today. We're going to start with Ahmed in Egypt.
00:12Came across this fella. He might be coming to the United States. Sounds like a great dude
00:16playing some guitar. Ahmed will be in touch down the road. At the end of the conversation with
00:21Ahmed, we have a little bit of his music and it's wonderful. Then Cornelius and I end up in a
00:26bar
00:27in Nebraska where there's some pool tables and it happened to be bingo night and we just kind of
00:32shoot around and chit chat for a little bit and then we run to this guy named Tom. Play a
00:35little
00:36pool with him and we got to have a nice little chat but the microphone's turned off prematurely
00:40so we're still working on that part. Thanks, everybody. Enjoy. Hello. What's up? Oh, hey.
00:47What's up? How's it going in Egypt? Pretty bad. What about in the U.S.? Yeah, pretty bad.
00:57Good to hear. Damn. What happened? Well, what happened to you? You go first.
01:01Um, bad economy and shit. Yeah. You know. Oh, shit. Hard to find a job or price is high?
01:09Yeah, both. I got to tell you something. Listen to this. You playing guitar?
01:15Yep. My bad. I'm sorry. No, I like it. That's cool. Listen, listen. I got a pocket.
01:20All right. I'm going to give you the lowdown. I got a Tom Tom podcast on the line right
01:23here. I see a color and I'll be able to just see how they're doing. How your life's going.
01:26Here's what I'm talking. Here you go.
01:31Yeah, it's a podcast. It's called The Tom Tom Show.
01:34Dang. If you want to do it. I would understand if you do it. Some people are just like, I
01:38don't want anything to do with it. Play me some music real quick. Anything. Okay.
02:05No shit. That sounds pretty familiar. Did you? Yeah. Is that Hotel California?
02:09Yep. Did you really just play that or was that recorded?
02:12No, no. That was me. That sounded good, man.
02:26That's Wicked Game. Yeah, Wicked Game. No, not bad, man. That sounds good.
02:31Thank you. Thank you. No, I like it. You said, yeah. So what's the economy is juggling? Prices?
02:38Prices are like, I don't know. Over here in Egypt, it's like pretty famous. You get no
02:46jobs. When you find a job, they pay you below minimum wage. Yeah.
02:51Yeah. And even if you have a good job and thing. If you work, for example, if you work
02:57as an engineer and stuff, you get paid, for example, like 30,000 pounds a month, which
03:02is not real. That's like, that's a dream over here. It's not going to even, it's not going
03:09to be enough for you because prices over here are close to the prices of, say, for example,
03:18the, you know, like Saudi Arabia, for example. Yeah. And the currency over here is pretty
03:25weak too. So you cannot like buy a lot of stuff. Basically, we're all broke in that indirect
03:30way. You know what I mean? Yep. Yep. You know, I heard that Italy, it's hard for young
03:36folks to find jobs there in that a lot of folks are leaving. Do a lot of people leave
03:41Egypt to get work? Yeah, I'm leaving too. I'm leaving myself. Right. Where are you
03:46heading? I'm leaving like, I'm planning to go to the US. Okay. I'm going to go for college.
03:54All right. Does that feel good or does that feel like something you have to do that you rather
03:57would not do? No, trust me. I want to go. I want to go. Yeah. This country is fucked.
04:03Well, USA has its own set of problems right now too, but. Yeah, I know. But the thing is,
04:09I'm looking, I'm looking forward to like have money in my pocket and, you know, and like
04:13go be able to like marry in the future and stuff, open a house, have kids and stuff. Over here
04:20in
04:20Egypt is like pretty difficult, you know, just to marry you. You're going to like, you're going to
04:24marry a girl in like, but when you're like 33 or something, I don't love that. I don't
04:29want to be like that. You know what I mean? Yeah. No. I want to marry a girl in my
04:3220s.
04:33I want to have my own house, my own car, have kids and stuff. It's pretty hard over here to
04:38do so, you know? Yeah. Yeah. When do you go to college?
04:41When I'm going on August this year.
04:44You already got it planned out? Yeah. Cool.
04:49I don't want to go to Embrood at all. I'm not pretty sure if I'm going to be able to
04:54do so,
04:55but I'm going to apply for like five colleges over there. Sweet. Where are you thinking about
04:59going? What area? I'm thinking about going like either Cali, Texas, Florida, or Arizona.
05:06Yeah. Cool, man. Well, I want you to know with all the stuff going on, I still would welcome
05:11you. There's plenty of people who would welcome you with open arms and I wish you the best.
05:15I hope. Yeah. I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure. And I hope you can get here and get the
05:19education. If that's what you've decided to do, then I want you to get a good education
05:23and I would hope that you get your life going and get your, get it. Oh, I got to turn
05:27this.
05:28I got to turn this thing up. I got a fan running. Hold on one second.
05:33My audio is getting messed up if I leave the fan out.
05:46And in the meantime, you just start filling it up with some beautiful sounds. I love it.
05:50Love it.
05:50I was thinking I created that like a month ago. I don't remember.
05:55Do you record music? Do you got anything online?
05:58Um, not online, but I just record it for fun. I don't share with people that much.
06:03You know what you should do? If we put this episode out and I'll send you a link. Are you
06:07on Instagram? Yeah. I have Instagram. Yeah. Yeah. We should connect that way. If we
06:12put this episode out, I think it'd be pretty cool. And then I could put one of your songs
06:15in. I just did that in the other day. Somebody did, uh, electronic music and I put their music
06:21into the episode. Oh, okay. I'm down. What was your name? My name is Ahmed.
06:28Ahmed? Ahmed. Ahmed. Ahmed? Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Very cool. Um, what about yours?
06:37Tom. Yeah. And it's called Tom. What is it again? Tom. T-O-M. T-O-M? Tom? Tom.
06:45Oh, I, cool. Yeah. Simple little name. Um, what, uh, how have things been, uh, like what's
06:54new in your life right now? I guess the new stuff is that you're going to the U.S. and
06:57going
06:58to college, right? Oh yeah. There's a lot. I'm not gonna lie. Um, first of all, cause I'm,
07:06yeah, I'm gonna go to the U.S. But at the same time, I'm gonna miss my family. Plus
07:10I'm gonna have to join the army. So I'm not gonna be back to my country until I'm like
07:1530 years old. And then you have to join the army? Cause I don't wanna, no, I don't wanna
07:20join the army. So that's a way to join the army. I gotta be outside of Egypt. Yeah.
07:25Yeah. Until I become 30 years old. It's, it's fucked. Yeah. Can your family come visit you?
07:30Um, I mean, I'm gonna visit them in my summer breaks when I get like summer breaks from my
07:36college. Cause my country is gonna give me like a, um, a waiting, um, thing. I don't
07:42remember what is it called. Until I'm done with my college. Yeah, sure. A determined.
07:48Yep. Basically. And then when I'm done, I'm gonna have to join the army and we don't wanna
07:52do that. So I'm gonna stay outside of Egypt until I'm 30. Yeah. Gotcha. Man. Yeah. My son
07:59is about four hours away and it, uh, sometimes I miss the hell out of him just cause he's
08:05in college. He's only that far away, but I get to see him a couple of times in winter
08:09though, but yeah. What are you thinking about studying? Oh, I'm thinking about studying
08:17aeronautics. Aeronautics. That'd be something. Yeah. Cause, cause I want to be a pilot. I don't
08:22know if that, that's going to be something impossible. Cause, uh, as I said, um, the money
08:28and shit, it's pretty hard. I don't know how, how that's going to work, but you know, I'm
08:33praying. Yeah. It's not impossible. Maybe, maybe it's hard, but it's totally possible.
08:38You should. Uh, I mean the hourly, um, thing that you pay for the, um, just to rent the, um,
08:46plane is pretty, pretty expensive. You pay like $475 an hour. So that's something. Right.
08:54Right. And, um, all right. What else? Do you got any mysteries there where you're at
09:00in Egypt? Mysteries? Yeah. Any mysteries in your life? Oh, any, any, uh, stuff that's
09:08gone missing out of your yard or you got any strange people showing up talking funny?
09:14I have strange people. Let me, let me tell you that, um, people over here are, they're, they're
09:19not strange, but at the same time, at the same time they are, you know, like they're
09:23both, I don't know how to explain it. But the thing is like, people just doesn't like
09:27to like have combos with you. Like they try to avoid it. Yeah. But they also want to talk.
09:36Like it's, it's pretty insane over here. Yeah. Interesting. Yeah. You know what I mean?
09:42Yeah. Like I don't want to approach you, but I still want to do approach you. It's like, I
09:46don't, I don't want to explain it. Yeah. It's pretty hard to explain. You know, it's
09:50funny. I tried to do a fishing episode today. So I went out onto a lake that was frozen
09:55sometimes. Well, once before we did a, we've done a few fishing episodes, but only one of
09:59them went live because only one of them worked. I went out onto a frozen lake and I just started
10:03walking up to people and saying, Hey, you want to be on my podcast? I can mic you up. I
10:08got
10:08this remote mic up system now. Yeah. People were kind of like, it's intriguing, but I do
10:15not want to do that. And then we, then we just started bullshitting and it was like
10:20pretty cool. I got in touch with one guy. So maybe down the road, we're going to ice
10:23fish together. Cause we've got it. Yeah. And he's got it. I didn't know that there was
10:28like, I didn't know ice fishing was a thing. I'm not going to lie. Yeah. Yeah. You drill
10:33a hole in the ice and then you catch the fish through the hole. It's actually not that
10:36pleasant, but it's just something to do in the winter. I mean, it's interesting. It's
10:41interesting. I'm not going to lie. Yeah. You probably don't get a lot of ice on your
10:45rivers. No, we don't get, we don't get ice at all. No. Not a lot. And do you ever fish
10:51in the river there? You got to be by a river if you're in Egypt, right? Nope. Not really.
10:57No, it's like an hour. Oh, see that was an hour away. I made an assumption that a lot
11:02of the human beings in Egypt are going to be near a river, but not anymore. Not
11:10anymore. We try to get away. Not really, but you know what I mean? Like, cause it's
11:14pretty dense near the river and stuff. Sure. So you're building on more cities
11:19around the desert part. Cause you know, just each, it's like big, but we, we don't
11:26know what to, like, we don't know how to use the land correctly. Cause it's mostly desert,
11:31desert, you know? Yeah. And we're trying to, uh, try to do something about it. Yeah.
11:38Well, no, that's great. And I, I do mean it. I welcome you with open arms. A lot of my
11:44friends would welcome you with open arms. So I want you to come to America and be successful.
11:49All right. Hopefully. No, it's going to happen, right? You got this. I wish. I mean, I'm
11:56gonna, I'm trying my best. Are you going to work hard? If it doesn't happen, yeah, of
12:01course. Of course. I'm going to do my best, but if this doesn't work, I'm not going to
12:04be sad. Sure. Anyways, cause I try my best anyways. You know what I mean? Yeah. And that's
12:08all you can do is try your best, but I have a feeling that if you work hard, you're going
12:11to do great. So, and we can, we can connect down the road. I'm going to check back in on
12:16you. Of course, yeah. Hey, you're a good man. You're a good dude. This was fun. I really
12:21appreciate you. Thank you. Yeah. I'm going to be in touch down the road. All right.
12:25All right. And then maybe I'll, if you can figure out how to send me some music, if you're
12:30comfortable with that, you should do that. Of course. Send me a, I mean, I'm okay with
12:33it. I'm okay with that. Yeah. Send me an MP3 or something on my website. I just sent you
12:37the link to the website. That's where my email address is. I got a Gmail account. So you can
12:42send me an email. You got an email or are you too young for that? Oh no, of course I
12:47have
12:47an email. I'm mostly joking, but a lot of young folks don't use email. Oh yeah. I understand.
12:53And I have one of my friends that made me start using my email because I have like a lot,
12:5877
12:58emails. Don't ask why. Yeah. But I have the one email that I use for a business and stuff.
13:05Yeah. No, it's not my business. I work. I used to work. No, not anymore. Yeah. All right.
13:10Well, fun chatting with you, man. We'll be in touch and I appreciate you talking. I appreciate
13:16you too. All right, man. See you later. See you. Let's check on Paul.
13:29Wait.
13:32He ain't taking calls right now.
13:36I got the gun.
13:38I got the gun.
13:42I got the gun.
13:52I got the gun.
13:53I got the gun.
13:57I got the gun.
14:17I got the gun.
14:28Oh, 68.
14:30Nice.
14:30Look at that all spread out.
14:34Bingo night.
14:36There's going to be music later, right?
14:39I don't know.
14:44Oh, kiss it.
14:46Didn't leave much.
14:48Five, three.
14:57Oh, 64.
15:00Oh, six, four.
15:02You left it right where it was basically.
15:07We just got to get it.
15:08We're getting our blood flowing right now.
15:13G, 54.
15:15Make that stripe.
15:16I'll be a bridge for you.
15:18No, I'm going to make it.
15:19You ever need a human bridge?
15:27Somebody's making a stripe now.
15:36I got to get a faster cough like this.
15:38Mine is so slow.
15:41So slow.
15:42Yeah, you got you.
15:4953, 54, 57.
15:51Yesterday, my arm felt so much better.
15:53My shoulder.
15:5564, 67, 70.
15:57And then, what'd you do?
16:02I just got, there's, once a week I have an okay day.
16:06You know, where it just feels better.
16:10Just randomly?
16:11Maybe my sleeping patterns agitates it.
16:14And maybe two nights ago, I somehow just didn't sleep on it or something.
16:17I don't know.
16:18And I don't mean it was fine.
16:20I mean it was improved.
16:21You know?
16:25Fine stoppage.
16:26Excellent.
16:28We got a new cue ball.
16:30They must have got a new one.
16:31It's pretty clean, isn't it?
16:32Yeah.
16:33That sucker will slip around when you need it to.
16:40Oh, yeah.
16:46Ah.
16:47Fine try.
16:47Break it up.
16:48It might go in anyway.
16:49There you go.
16:51Progress.
16:52Lucky shit.
16:56Yeah.
16:57Yeah.
17:01You know, I've been getting down on the ball too fast, huh?
17:04You brought these chocks?
17:05I brought one of them.
17:07Okay.
17:08I think this one.
17:14Fine effort.
17:16They can't all go in.
17:17Nah, they can't.
17:20You just want most of them to go in.
17:24We're still all plugged up.
17:26It's funny we ended up all plugged up down there.
17:28Yeah, we're all clumped up.
17:30Okay, this game will be worth $52 this block.
17:34Good luck of the double big ball.
17:37You don't usually miss this many shots.
17:39It's got to be your left hand.
17:40I'm getting, no, I've actually been pretty good with my left hand.
17:43I disagree.
17:48B, one.
17:49I'm getting there.
17:51B, one.
17:55It did touch the eight with the cue stick, didn't it?
17:58Oh, that doesn't matter.
17:59I hit my target ball.
18:04Where's it going?
18:06Pick a pocket.
18:07You've got to pick a pocket.
18:08Over there.
18:10I just can't hit it too hard.
18:14B, one, two, five.
18:16Nice.
18:17That's my speed limit with the right.
18:19B, one, two, five.
18:20Alright.
18:29Five, seven.
18:33Got that one out of the way.
18:35Made a ball for you.
18:37At least it's not ball in hand.
18:39I don't know, maybe it would have been better to just fall.
18:46This is actually going to be funny for us to just have, you know, with the bingo going on.
18:51Yeah.
18:53They can play this, they can play this at our funerals.
18:55I've got an ball right in hand.
18:57N, four, three.
19:04Oh, what do you know?
19:08Well.

23:47lucky you've had two flowers for Algernon in one game in one game
23:57there's a name for that I 18 I 1 8 sometimes my stick clicks
24:13I had a feeling that might happen sometimes you gotta go for it you got to
24:35tell me a story
24:37tell me a story
24:39Kelly just texted me she said has a really nice radio voice oh and face just
24:46just kidding lol when people say you have a great face for radio yeah they're
24:51saying your face should not be she's just making a joke for the sake of it but she
24:57said she likes your radio voice that's right about oh that's cool that's sweet
24:59this is funny she's almost like a snuffleupagus in my world you know what I mean
25:04I'll tell her you said so don't you're gonna make her
25:07and 38 did I tell you about Bob Seger no and me and Kelly 47 no you didn't what about
25:19I go on Facebook in like 2017 I'm like Bob Seger put your shit on Spotify I was
25:27really mad he was holding out like he was the Beatles or something right uh-huh and then
25:31Kelly maybe said something like I know right like in a comment we're Facebook friend never
25:36spoken a word to this person in my life she goes I said yeah I think I got a call
25:43I think I'm gonna call him and I'm gonna get this trained out fucking on she goes I know his
25:49former road manager oh and I can get you in touch with him okay oh six six so she knows
25:57his
25:57former road manager and I was like then I go into this meeting and I'm like oh shit is she
26:03serious
26:04like I'm not ready to be talking to Bob Seger's road manager she's like I can I'm gonna arrange it
26:09or something like that she made it clear that she was gonna arrange it what the fuck would the
26:12road manager be able to do about Spotify just one way to get it in road oh to actually eventually
26:17meet him yeah you leapfrog or you go maybe he's still hanging out with Bob maybe he's sitting
26:21there with Bob right then and there right and I could get my point across I could plead my case
26:26and I'm sitting in this meeting and I started to be like I knew she was fucking around
26:32and then all of a sudden I'm like oh shit man is she serious I started to bug out like
26:36I'm not ready
26:37and then she was of course fucking right and I don't think we went back to it although she
26:43might have she kind of ruined night moves for me to point out that it's a little creepy
26:4748 then all of a sudden or rather that you are a snuffleup I guess because he doesn't
26:53ever see you in real life and then all of a sudden four days later Bob Seger releases his
27:02stuff into Spotify and Kelly was like yeah we got it she gives me a little like high five emoji
27:08he just happened to right after we had this completely bullshit fabricating conversation

28:12you know all those times when you scratch the white ball you gotta accidentally make another ball
28:17that's the key to success that's the only reason I won that game
28:21yeah you kept accidentally making flowers for algae
28:24yeah
28:27so now at this point know the acquaintance Tom comes up to the table and
28:30he decides that he's willing to be mic'd up and play a few racks with us

29:27I was playing here a lot while I was out of work temporarily with the weather
29:33I worked outside
29:34yeah
29:34and so
29:35it was kinda nice to have a little
29:38little break
29:40and uh
29:41when it was so cold you couldn't go up
29:44exactly
29:46so
29:51so I got a lot better at pool all of a sudden
29:53and uh
29:54you know I haven't played for a lot of years
29:56so

30:24oh no no
30:25oh you mean
30:26that type?
30:27the rule?
30:27I mean I
30:28we got a table in June
30:29that's when I really started playing
30:31before that I was a guy
30:32who just clicked balls around at the bar
30:34every few years
30:35you know
30:36we came in
30:37nice shot
30:37nice shot
30:38come on now
30:39get out of there
30:39there you go
30:40and that's when
30:42my wife is a serious player
30:43she plays all the time
30:44I know where you're going
30:45I think
30:46you said you wanted me to run it
30:48so

30:49that's what I'm trying to do for you
30:51I love it

30:53you give me a shot
30:54give me a shot
30:55if you run it
30:56I will only high five you
30:58I can work with that
31:01I've been lefty for the last few weeks
31:04because I hurt my shoulder
31:07has it helped to switch hands
31:09when you're playing?
31:10and I'm doing a left handed mouse
31:12yeah
31:13I got like tendonitis
31:14I hurt it a few times
31:15and then
31:16I got like tendonitis
31:19in the past I've had to use a left handed mouse
31:23otherwise it just does not get better
31:25so
31:26when I was a kid I did a lot left handed because
31:30yeah I do
31:31well it was a
31:33a good friend of mine was
31:36practicing circus
31:37because he was going deaf
31:39because of
31:40of
31:40some kind of disease
31:42sure
31:43and
31:44he ended up recovering
31:46from
31:47whatever that ailment was
31:48you know it was kind of like
31:49you know if you make it to twelve
31:51without losing all your hearing
31:52you might
31:53sure
31:53you know be a functional
31:54hearing person
31:55and
31:56but
31:56the
31:57the parents thought
31:59okay there's a good chance
32:00he's
32:00he's gonna lose his hearing permanently
32:02everybody in the family learned sign language
32:04the close friends learned sign language with him
32:07and he was learning circus skills
32:09improve his proprioception
32:12and
32:13ambidexterity was part of that
32:14and so as a kid
32:15it was like
32:17kind of required
32:20to hang out with my best friend to practice
32:22circus
32:22no shit
32:23you know and
32:24so
32:25which is great
32:26but where did the ambidextries come in?
32:28circus
32:30you know if you're
32:31if you're really like involved in
32:33having to use both hands and
32:35circus things
32:36you
32:36you should
32:37yeah figure out how to
32:39no shit
32:40that's cool
32:41that's

32:43that's unique
32:44that's a pickle
32:45looks like mickey mouse
32:46wow it's double locked
32:47it's like
32:50it's frozen twice
32:51well maybe the two or the seven will go in
32:53at this point
32:55Tom had played amazingly
32:56and he almost ran the entire table
32:57and he's locked up against the eight and none of the ball
33:00so
33:00when he scratches on the eight ball
33:02we refuse to accept it
33:03because
33:03he had performed so wonderfully
33:06I thought it was for a moment
33:07the eight
33:07oh you scratched
33:08yeah
