00:02Not a care in the world for these feline boarders settling into this holiday cattery.
00:07A different story for their host with flight cancellations, fuel shortages and sky-high
00:13petrol prices putting bookings on pause.
00:18We're starting to get cancellations, people not wanting to head on out to New South Wales
00:23country for example because they're worried they won't get fuel and be able to get back.
00:27Michael Simms has run Sydney's largest cattery for decades. Come Easter these cages are usually full.
00:34Even of the bookings that we do have there's some uncertainty.
00:39He's had to pivot even offering to pick up cats to save customers fuel.
00:44I've just gone out and bought an electric car so that's going to make a difference too.
00:48It's not the only business feeling the fuel pinch. New South Wales largest holiday park operator
00:54is offering $25 fuel offset vouchers to those who stay at their 40 parks from now until May.
01:01They're also helping out staff.
01:03For anyone who's travelling further than 10 kilometres to come to work with us
01:07we've introduced a fuel allowance which sees an extra allocation in their pay every fortnight.
01:13Paula and Michael Candlish have travelled 60,000 kilometres in their caravan across the country over the past four years.
01:21They've just postponed their trip to Western Australia due to fuel shortages.
01:26I'd rather take the chance another time when we know that we can actually get fuel and keep moving.
01:31Here in far north Queensland tourism authorities say operators running trips to the Great Barrier Reef
01:37have also been hit hard by rising fuel prices at a time when visitor numbers were already down.
01:43The industry are bearing that at the moment and we're all waiting to see what happens next in terms of
01:49fuel availability.
01:50A holiday for some this Easter but not others.
