00:00But how about this? Mets prospect, Carson Benj, right off the bat,
00:04here are the youngest three players to record at least one walk,
00:07one home run, and a stolen base on opening day.
00:10You know who's number one on that list there, Craig?
00:12Yeah, it's Carson Benj. How about that?
00:1323 years and 65 days old, doing the Big Apple right away.
00:17That's impressive stuff.
00:19Yeah, good names to be on a list with there.
00:22Bonds, Harper, Benj.
00:24That ain't bad.
00:25You know, look, I mean, the Mets had a weird offseason, okay?
00:31They definitely had a weird offseason.
00:33They definitely lost Pete Alonso.
00:35They did not expect to lose him.
00:36You did not expect Bo Bichette to be playing the corner and Polanco to be playing first
00:41and maybe not expect Benj to even make the team and start opening day
00:44until it was apparent that he would, which is, you know, sometime in March.
00:48But look, I mean, Luis Robert already with a contribution for them.
00:53I'm not that surprised here.
00:54I think the Mets will hang in there and they'll pull it together.
00:57We tend to be negative on the New York team sometimes here, too.
01:03But remember, David Stearns has been around a long time with this.
01:06He's had a lot of success in Milwaukee.
01:07You could say the success the Brewers have right now going,
01:10a lot of it is contribute to the past because I think there's no doubt that Stearns
01:16set the precedent for the way that the Brewers were going to be.
01:20So, yeah, so he's off to a good start as well for New York.
01:23And you rarely get a player like this, by the way, a rookie for the Mets playing so well
01:28in their first year.
01:29So they're eating that up right now.
01:30By the way, take a look at Benj into that lineup here.
01:33Look at Francisco Lindor.
01:33Only two games they played so far for the Mets here.
01:35You know, no hits on the Major League Baseball season.
01:38Bo Bichette there at 111 as a batting average.
01:40But, Craig, I love RBI props in Major League Baseball.
01:43Most of them are plus money.
01:44You know what else gets me upset here when I bet like a team total?
01:47And on Saturday's game, Pittsburgh went 2 of 18, Craig, with runners in scoring position.
01:51The Mets, 3 of 14.
01:53And by the way, that game was 0-0 after nine innings and ended up with six runs once we
01:57put a couple of ghost runners on, a three-run home run to walk it off.
02:00Fun times here on opening weekend and some of these rookies doing big things.
02:04Now, the one team that we looked at over the past, let's just say, 30 or 40 years, they
02:08always come prepared at St. Louis.
02:10And every single year, Craig's like, where do they get these two or three players out of their
02:14minor league system that actually performed right off the bat?
02:16Well, maybe we're getting back to in St. Louis.
02:18J.J.
02:19Weatherholt showing some power.
02:21And how about St. Louis opening the season with a couple wins here?
02:24J.J.
02:25Off to the start here that we like to see.
02:28Yeah, I saw him play a lot in the spring because they share the same park as the Marlins
02:32do in Jupiter.
02:32And, like, he was the one guy in the lineup when he was there that you could say, okay,
02:37that's a big league player.
02:38And then there's no disrespect to Nolan Gorman or Alec Burleson or Mason Wynn.
02:43It's not like they're a disaster, St. Louis, but this is a rebuilding season, Donnie.
02:49And let's not get it twisted.
02:51If they lose 100, they're okay with that.
02:54They traded a lot of their stars in the offseason.
02:57A lot of their pitching moved on.
02:59They're going to piece together starters, bullpen.
03:02And Weatherholt, remember, was drafted before Haim Bloom took over as the general manager
03:08of the St. Louis Cardinals.
03:09So this is a John Moselak guy, so credit to them for getting that done.
03:14But, you know, I do think that Weatherholt's going to be a really good player, but this
03:18is the kind of guy, unfortunately, Donnie, over the course of the season that they may
03:21say, hey, look, we just have no reason to pitch to this guy, if this kid, if he's that
03:24good.
03:25Like, that's the season the Cardinals are having.
03:26And also, the other thing, Donnie, too, is that you get to July, and I just mentioned
03:30Burleson, and I just mentioned Gorman.
03:32I mean, they could get traded, you know, like the Cardinals could completely tear this
03:36down to the studs before the offseason, too.
03:39So while I think he's going to be a great player, I don't know that he will win rookie
03:42of the year, because I just don't know what will be around him as we get to the later months
03:47in the season.
