Ingratitude towards spouses and its spiritual consequences (Kufran al-'Ashir).

Description:
Can our words at home affect our standing in the Hereafter? In Sahih al-Bukhari 29, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) shares a vision he was shown of the Hell-fire. He points out a specific behavior that can lead people—specifically mentioning women in this context—to a state of spiritual loss: the act of being ungrateful for the goodness of their companions.

The Prophet (ﷺ) described a situation where a spouse is treated with kindness for a lifetime, yet upon seeing one thing they dislike, they exclaim: "I have never seen any good from you!"

Key Lessons & Insights:

The Definition of "Kufr" used here: When the Sahaba asked if these women "disbelieve in Allah," the Prophet (ﷺ) clarified that he meant Ingratitude (Kufr of favors/relationships). This proves that the word "Kufr" in Hadith can sometimes mean being unthankful rather than leaving the religion.

The Trap of "All or Nothing" Thinking: The Hadith warns against erasing a history of 99 good deeds because of one mistake. This psychological trap ruins relationships and displeases Allah.

Gratitude as a Branch of Faith: By placing this in the Book of Belief, al-Bukhari emphasizes that being grateful to people is a requirement of being grateful to Allah.

A Call to Mindfulness: This is not meant to condemn women, but to serve as a stern warning for everyone to guard their tongues during arguments and to remember the favors they have received.

00:14He replied, They are ungrateful to their husbands,
00:16and are ungrateful for the favors and the good, charitable deeds done to them.
00:21If you have always been good, benevolent to one of them,
00:24and then she sees something in you not of her liking,
