00:06I definitely think it takes someone special to adopt a bonded pair.
00:13A bonded pair is basically two dogs who don't want to go through life without each other.
00:18It's beautiful to see that connection.
00:20It's like best friends.
00:21They really love each other.
00:24And when they do come in, we can see how important that relationship is to them.
00:28So you can't take one without taking the other.
00:30They are packed still.
00:31And we just wait for our lucky family to come through our doors and take them both home.
00:35Come on, darling.
00:38The Animal Welfare League is the home of Doggy's Second Chances.
00:43For four years, we've followed families seeking their perfect furry companion.
00:48Hello.
00:49We're here to get a dog.
00:50And the team of AWL Matchmaking Angels.
00:54We've found you the perfect dog.
00:56Yay!
00:56He's a little papillon cross.
00:59He is a Maltese.
01:01Oh!
01:03When the sparks fly, it's magic.
01:08Hello.
01:09Oh, God.
01:10Oh, my God.
01:11Look at that.
01:12Just the best feeling in the world, watching people fall in love.
01:15It's a goosebump, magical butterfly in your stomach feeling.
01:19And that's something so amazing to be a part of.
01:22So we're revisiting our favourite people and pooches.
01:26Because these connections last a lifetime.
01:30I was waiting for this day to come.
01:33And four-legged friends change lives.
01:38Oh.
01:40Oh.
01:45Oh.
01:54Oh.
01:56Oh.
01:56Oh.
01:57Oh.
01:59Zoe and Buster are a little couple that got surrendered to us on medical grounds because they ate a bat
02:04Let's go the previous owners kept them in the backyard all the time. So we'll need to see how they
02:10go with other dogs
02:15We do dog-to-dog tests to make sure that the dogs are going to be safe out in the
02:20community with other dogs
02:21We took Zoe out first
02:24She's just looking for a friend
02:26And the whole time she just whined and cried for Buster. No, she's just fretting. She needs a friend
02:31Here we took Buster out second. He's quite stiff. Oh, they're so bonded
02:36He's a lot more comfortable with Zoe around
02:39It was quite clear that we couldn't separate the two as they were only really relaxed when they were in
02:43each other's presence
02:43I'm happy to pass that so the best home for this little duo would be someone that's happy to take
02:49two dogs on
02:50But they definitely need to be together
02:58I think we are in the right place
03:00I'm so excited for the dog
03:03Ten-year-old Lily has brought along her family in the hopes of finding a faithful friend
03:08I was like a Frenchie or something
03:11It's just nice to give a dog a home, isn't it?
03:15Yeah
03:15If my mum was a dog, I reckon she would be like a golden retriever
03:22What's that mean?
03:24Is that because I visually look like one?
03:25Yeah
03:27She's a hairdresser
03:29So
03:29You're a hairdresser?
03:31I'm married hairdresser
03:32And you are dressed for the hour
03:35Okay, guys, you gotta catch up
03:36I know
03:37My husband's always dressed for the hour, don't worry
03:39Roberta is loved by everyone
03:42Annoyingly so, in fact
03:44It takes a long time for us to walk down the road
03:47Because everyone wants to have a chat with Mr Popular
03:50Hello
03:51Hello
03:52Let's put the books down
03:54Welcome, guys
03:55Hi
03:56Hi
03:56So, we're here for a dog today
03:59Yeah
03:59We mostly want, like, a dog
04:02Because I'm starting to walk by myself to, like, the shops and stuff
04:06And I want to, like, walk a dog there
04:09Lily is so social
04:11She's animal mad as well
04:13She's the one that wanted the cat
04:15She's the one that wants the dog
04:16She's the one that wants the horse
04:17Have we had dogs before?
04:19Oh, yeah
04:20Yeah, but they both passed away
04:22Our dog, her name was Freckles
04:24She died in February by cancer
04:27Aww
04:28I'm so sorry, guys
04:30We have had Freckles for our whole life
04:34So, it's, it's hard losing her
04:38Freckles was very sensitive to the energy or family mood
04:41So, if someone was upset or sad, she would go in and have a little snuggle
04:46So, it was awful to say goodbye to her
04:48What about mum and dad? You guys had dogs growing up?
04:51Yeah, so, I've always had a dog
04:53Yeah
04:54Roberto, no
04:55Freckles was his first love
04:57Yeah
04:58Yeah, okay
04:58He loved her more than me
05:03And what breed was Freckles?
05:05Staffy
05:05Staffy, okay
05:06So, I've always had Staffies
05:08But, in saying that, we're open to any dog
05:11Okay
05:12Are there any specific breeds?
05:14I quite like Frenchies
05:17Ooh
05:18I have a Frenchie at home
05:19I do
05:19Yeah
05:20They're beautiful dogs
05:21So, we're looking for the dog to come to work with us?
05:24To the...
05:24Wow
05:25Yes
05:26Yes
05:26The staff have already unanimously decided we need a salon dog
05:31I love that
05:31And Freddie, what sort of life is this dog going to have with you?
05:35A good one
05:36Yeah?
05:36Is he going to sleep with you?
05:38We're hoping that it will get Freddie back in his own room
05:41Yeah
05:42Yeah
05:43Freddie says he's going to sleep in his room if the dogs sleep with him
05:47So, Freddie still likes to sleep with us
05:50But, do you know, quite often we end up with both kids, the cat, the dog, everyone in the bed
05:56with us
05:58Would you guys be open to two dogs?
06:01Ooh
06:01Like a bonded pair?
06:03Yeah, well, she's been talking about it and I'm just like, oh my goodness
06:07If they were bonded, then we wouldn't mind taking them both, well, I wouldn't mind taking them both home
06:13How about mum and dad?
06:15Yeah
06:16Wow
06:17Okay
06:18All right, guys, well, I think we've got a fair bit of info, so we'll go back and have a
06:22chat
06:23Thank you
06:23All right, guys
06:24Thanks, guys
06:27I don't understand how we've gone from rescuing a dog to...
06:31From one, two, three, five, four, five, four
06:34Oh, we've got a very exuberant family out there
06:37Really?
06:38Yeah, holy moly
06:39Have they had dogs before?
06:40They have, and they are open to two dogs
06:43Two dogs?
06:43Yes
06:44Yeah
06:44All right, what are you guys thinking?
06:46Lily loves her Frenchies
06:48Yeah
06:48And I'm sure we had two Frenchies come in
06:52Sofia and Shiloh
06:55Oh my goodness
06:57Sofia is a six-year-old and Shiloh is seven female French Bulldogs
07:02Sofia and Shiloh are bonded and would need to go to a home together
07:06I think Shiloh is going to take a while to come around, however, going off Sofia, who's really confident, she
07:12will come around, so...
07:13Yeah, okay, how do we think they'll go in a salon with people getting their hair done?
07:17Look, I think they'll have to build up to that
07:19Yeah
07:19Especially with Shiloh
07:20Is there anyone else?
07:21What about sweet boy Tyson?
07:25Oh my god
07:26Oh, look at him
07:28He's so cute
07:30So he's been here for a long time, over 120 days he's been at shelter
07:35When he originally came in was from the inspectors
07:36Yeah
07:37A beautiful dog though
07:38He's okay on Lee to walk past them with dogs, but if a dog didn't come up to him, I
07:41don't think he'd be very good with them
07:42So if Lily's walking him and a dog comes up
07:44Yeah
07:44I mean, I can see two Frenchies as a salon mascot
07:48Oh yeah, definitely
07:48And it'd be nice to get a bonded pair up, so I think
07:51It would be really nice to get a bonded pair up
07:52Yeah, I think we would want a great stay with Sophia and Shiloh
07:54Yeah
07:54That's good, let's do it
07:55Let's do it
08:02From one Frenchie lover to another, I found you a Frenchie
08:07Yay!
08:08She's a gorgeous girl, her name is Sophia
08:11Sophia
08:11She's six years old
08:12However
08:14There's a catch
08:16Sophia
08:17Yeah
08:17Is bonded to her sister
08:20Her name's Shiloh, who is seven
08:23Shiloh
08:25So we might get two dogs
08:27How's mum and dad feeling?
08:29Under pressure
08:32Their personalities do differ a little bit
08:34So Sophia is the more exuberant, bouncy, playful girl
08:39Shiloh is a little bit more reserved
08:41So as long as we're really calm and quiet with these two dogs
08:44Let them get to know you guys first
08:45I can't wait to meet them
08:47You guys ready?
08:48Yeah
08:48Let's go
08:49Since
08:50Freckles passed
08:51The last six months
08:53There's been a big hole in the house
08:55Well I hadn't contemplated it until you mentioned it this morning
08:59Well you had the plan
08:59When you said
09:00What if there was two?
09:03Yeah, yeah
09:03This is Freckles
09:05She was a beautiful loving dog
09:08A soul mate
09:09A soul mate
09:11Has all family
09:14Misses there
09:15If I was sad or angry she would always come to me and like cheer me up
09:23Thursday night
09:24Thursday night I came home from work
09:25Her breathing was laboured and she had abdominal swelling
09:29So we quickly rushed her to an emergency vet
09:33And he just said the reality is it's not good
09:38So we got to spend an hour with her before and then the vet came in and we hugged her
09:46Yeah
09:47Yeah
09:48And said goodbye
09:49Just breaking your eyes
09:52Look at us
09:53Yes
09:54I'm ruining my makeup
09:56She's washing off
09:57Oh my god
10:02It's so cute
10:07Hi babies
10:09Let's go
10:10Good work
10:10Good girl Shiloh
10:12You're okay
10:13You're okay
10:14These little cuties are Sophia the tan one and Shiloh the white one
10:19These little girls came from a regional branch
10:22They were surrendered there because their owner could no longer take care of them
10:26It was really sad to see Sophia and Shiloh when they first came in
10:31Shiloh was very scared whenever you went near her she would shake she was terrified
10:36Spending most of their lives together these guys are super bonded
10:40Shiloh especially is very lost without Sophia
10:45I personally think a great home would just be somewhere that understands that they're going to need time
10:51They couldn't do life without each other
10:54Good girl
10:55They're out
10:55Good girl
10:56Good girl
10:56Good one
10:57Shiloh is shy
10:58Yeah I'm probably a bit shy of dogs
11:01I can see someone coming
11:30Ready? Ready
11:33Bonded besties Sophia and Shiloh are hoping to expand their pack
11:37Hi
11:39Hello
11:39Hi
11:40How are you going guys?
11:42Very good
11:43So the little tan one is Sophia and Shiloh's our little white one
11:48So I know you guys are very very excited but these guys can be a little bit shy and timid
11:54Let's go
11:56So you'll just have to give them a minute to come up and give you a sniff
11:59Look Sophia's like I want to meet him, I want to, I want to meet him
12:02Sophia wants to go say hi straight away
12:04It's okay
12:06So Sophia the tan one is obviously a lot more comfortable than Shiloh
12:10Shiloh's very head shy so I do wonder, I don't know what the reason that is but I do wonder
12:15what's happened
12:15It's okay
12:18Good work
12:19I have some treaties that they like for you as well
12:22Anyone want some treaties? I'll give them to all of them
12:25How they doing?
12:26Good work guys
12:28Sophia
12:28I really actually thought Lily would be so overexcited
12:33Yeah
12:33That she'd be really giddy and want to touch, touch, touch, touch, touch
12:37I'm impressed as well with both kids
12:39They're being really respectful of the two dogs
12:41Oh Shiloh it's okay
12:42Freddie
12:44Just slow movements, let them come to us
12:47I think they both love us
12:51This is probably the best day ever
12:55Do you remember being seven Sam and being excited every time you saw a dog?
12:58Oh yeah, those were the days
13:00Shiloh!
13:01I think Shiloh's a bit shy still
13:08Shiloh!
13:09Shiloh!
13:10Shiloh!
13:11Shiloh!
13:12Good girl!
13:15Come on!
13:17Oh!
13:17oh honey she must be feeling nervous she seems a bit hesitant yeah I don't think Kelly soldiers
13:35yeah oh she's gonna vomit on me oh dear oh are you de-sexed recently have your little tattoo I
14:02have a tattoo to stop ready I'm ready newlyweds Craig and Rodney are hoping to start their own family
14:23very excited if I was a dog I would be a Labrador for sure I just be Maltese area because
14:29I'm cute
14:32give yourself a rap mate how long have you two been together for 16 years 16 years yeah oh my
14:39goodness just recently married we are yin and yang we are completely opposites but we absolutely work
14:48together I'm very out there I'm very spontaneous I take a while to warm up why are you pulling that
14:55face for it's not it's not a bad thing I just take a while to warm up she had a
15:05little peak on your
15:06truck sorry she cleans up the vomit after a rocky start bonded pups Sophia and Shiloh are hoping
15:15this family haven't been scared off Shiloh is much like this one likes some belly rubs Shiloh's a lot
15:23more confident around the kids than actually dad else oh she wants a pat because give me a pat
15:28Shiloh is just letting Freddie scratch her belly I'm actually really shocked this is this is great
15:33I feel like this one loves me the most oh you got a girl wow I'm actually really impressed with
15:45Shiloh I
15:45was nice when her to cut like that quickly come on dad you're very good bonding with dogs what I
15:52offer is to create the same connection that I had before with freckles if I can be my other half
16:00not of course my other half see that fraudulence hi was that like a little kiss but she's gonna
16:13give me a vomit kiss Wow go Shiloh
16:28come she looks like she wants to have a little lay down
16:36hi sounds like we're having a lot of fun she's actually not as timid as I imagined that she was
16:42gonna be yeah would you guys like to take them for a walk yes please yeah who wants to take
16:47Shiloh
16:48for a walk Freddie one and you want to take Sophia that's nice that Freddie wants to take Shiloh yeah
16:54and Lily will take Sophia they found this spirit animals we came here for one dog deciding whether to
17:09take two dogs yeah there's a lot of considerations to take in place good girl
17:22thank you
17:26can I have your nap please
17:30meeting the dogs was really exciting we were all like hyped up from the morning then to find out
17:36that it was actually two dogs was a big shock I just didn't anticipate the overwhelming amount of
17:45work that it was gonna be for both Roberta and I like I think it would be really sad if
17:53we just took one
17:54of the dogs home and left the other one two dogs and not just one it's a consideration that you
18:02have to be pragmatic about
18:06but it turns out I make the decisions
18:22now that we have them home all my worries were quashed
18:31hello hello hello oh hi it's our best decision ever made you can't leave
18:39because the love they gave us it's priceless
18:46I think the best thing about getting the package deal is that you get double the love
18:52because their bond is so close and as a family we're so close we do things a lot together as
18:59a family and their bond has got stronger because they've got a safety net with us as a family
19:07the kids just love them they're always giving them a snuggle and especially this one he loves to snuggle with
19:16them
19:19I love when we just come home to see them like jump all over us and get all excited
19:27I love the cuddles they give to all of us and how they just lie on us fall asleep and
19:34stay there for hours
19:39it's just amazing to see how they are together their love and care to each other
19:46if you could relate it to human terms I'd say they're soulmates
19:59I think it's great when we do see a bonded pair leave together and going home
20:03you're sweet
20:05it's a little bit difficult more so on the financial aspects
20:08there's obviously double amount of food
20:10double amount of medical bills with regards to vaccinations and everything else
20:14but it definitely is a double the joy when you take two dogs home instead of one
20:30at the Kemp's Creek animal shelter newlyweds Craig and Rodney are hoping to meet their perfect pooch
20:40good thank you I'm Taylor I'm Nick nice to meet you Rodney Craig oh you look excited
20:47excited nervous not sure what's going to come our way
20:50so why now guys why now for the baby we had a dog and cat and old age got the
20:57better of them
20:57and they passed away for you it's just having that little companion he always goes I miss the tap tap
21:06tap tap
21:06and you miss like when you come home and they're so excited when you come home they do like little
21:11excitement wheeze absolutely I don't get that from him now when I come home
21:17all about those excitement wheeze
21:20having this dog will change my life for the better tenfold I've had a lot of health concerns
21:26so having a dog will benefit me greatly I had to have a pacemaker I'm putting for my heart and
21:33then
21:33after I had that pacemaker I suffered a minor heart attack with a blood clot in my heart or near
21:40my
21:40heart so it's good for me now to be able to go out and do exercising with the dog and
21:44go for walks and
21:45then something that's a bit too active then perhaps might not be I wouldn't be able to run with it
21:50or
21:50that kind of activity yeah the sort of dog you're after what sort of company you're after with the
21:54dog I've always kind of had a joke or I've laughed I'm like oh I'd love a little dog that
21:58I could you know
21:59carry around in my handbag nice but yeah as you can probably tell I'm quite a positive upbeat out
22:07there kind of personality and I think like a dog that much that matches that and I think we are
22:12that as a couple really probably aren't more than you but I just think yeah so we've got the realist
22:23and the optimist correct that's right I'm sorry guys well I think we've got a lot to work with here
22:38they would like something that would be people social social dog social social we all know Frosty's
22:46pretty social he's been here quite a while we've had to pop him in foster because he wasn't coping
22:52too well in shelter and obviously the cons is that Frosty's a bit older yeah what about Zoe and Buster
22:59they just come in yep yep so little Buster he's seven years two months and four weeks old a mini
23:06Foxy mixed breed with Chihuahua I think he's got Papillon in him look at those ears did you know what
23:12Papillon means no it's French for butterfly there you go that's why they have those ears oh they look like
23:18butterfly and little miss Zozo what is that it's definitely only a face that mother could love
23:31Zoe's eight she's a de-sex female mini Foxy mixed breed with Chihuahua hua hua hua these guys are
23:39super bonded we took Zoe out this morning without Buster and the whole time she was looking for him
23:45she was crying she was pulling on the lead and as soon as he came fine yeah so you can
23:49get an
23:50increase of things like separation anxiety absolutely all the rest if you separate them
23:54you can see lots of undesirable behaviors as well they have to go together we've got a lovely pair of
24:00dogs who are bonded so I think we try them to if they're open to the idea that would be
24:04so good
24:06how cute's the hamster he feels really coarse hey hmm he's not a smooth guinea pig I could work a
24:12bit
24:12like my hair they're bad they're bad they're bad here we are spirit fingers everybody spirit fingers so we
24:22found a couple of options we have a little boy his name is Buster and he is seven years old
24:34he's a
24:34little papillon cross so he's got the ears right yes and you'll be pleased to know that Buster does do
24:42excited little ways quite often second option we also have Zoe who is eight she is a chihuahua
24:52Maltese cross I believe or chihuahua shih tzu cross um she's totally character filled she's just the
25:00cutest little lady catch is though they have to come together they are a bonded pair so they are so
25:08in
25:09love when you separate them she cries for him and when you separate him he looks for her the whole
25:15time so they are absolutely in love I was expecting to meet one dog not two they were very clever
25:23because
25:24they said yeah they have to go together I mean you look a little bit more skeptical I'm fine I'm
25:30open
25:30I'm open to all possibilities yeah I love that they're in love this is like the best love story
25:35ever sir in line as a marriage celebrant I love love so I could marry them like perfect we could
25:41have weddings doggie wedding we could have a dog ceremony would you like to meet them I'll be happy to
25:54meet them okay great as Taylor Swift one says it's a love story baby just oh my god they're so
26:10in love
26:14oh my god oh let's just see Buster and Zoe
26:29newlyweds Craig and Rodney are nervously waiting to meet another happy couple Zoe and Buster just bust a move
26:40oh I love them I think I need to do a nervous wee I'm just excited of thinking about what
26:47life will be
26:48like with a new dog or dogs and the types of things that we'll do as a family I just
26:53literally can't
26:54wait he's so excited though you can't even sit still waited so long for this moment what if you
27:00like one and not the other oh you can't separate them they're in love it's just got to be right
27:07open
27:09your mind who do you think is going to make the final decision I think Rodney's a sweetheart and I
27:14think he just wants to make him happy yeah the point where I thought that I could lose Craig it
27:23was a dark place to be thinking along those lines I never expected that at 38 I would have a
27:31heart
27:31attack and I remember Rodney when I rang him and said I'm in the midst of a heart attack you
27:36need to
27:37get me to a hospital and I've just never heard silence on a phone and I'm like hello
27:46when we returned home from hospital I didn't want him to go to sleep and then for me to wake
27:52up and
27:52he's gone like that's horrible to think that so it was very um yeah the times they were though a
28:01bit
28:01scary they were a bit scary and they were scary after he had the pacemaker and you know but everything
28:09worked out well hmm Zoe and Buster were medical surrenders Buster you gotta wait for your sister
28:18they've been given a clean bill of health by our vets and are now ready to find their new forever
28:23home
28:23I can hear them I can hear them I can see it under the door oh my god stop
28:40how are you guys good how are you good thank you oh my god all right we have miss Zoe
28:47here she's
28:48probably gonna come up first and Buster who wants to just smell the water there we go there's Buster
28:55are you guys comfortable for me to unclip them yeah go for it Zoe first leave them here
29:03so just probably let them have a smell around they obviously can't probably get up to that right so if
29:08you want to sit on the lower step or on the floor go for it I'll also might get you
29:12some treats for
29:13them awesome bit of water in there mate did he fall in the pond Zoe Buster hi boy hi hi
29:22Bubba hi I
29:23think Craig is definitely more sold on two dogs than I am hi he's super keen jelly bean do you
29:30want
29:31to come home to my place kisses for me I'll just have to take gradual steps hi beautiful girl hi
29:39darling
29:40hey just don't think Rodney looks that impressed perhaps Rodney's not sure about having two of them
29:48yeah sketch sketch sketch sketch sketch there's a play date there's a play date
30:07let's see how we go huh Amatar is ready to take on the ultimate challenge by becoming a single dog
30:14dad
30:15hi anyone else coming in just you today no just me how would I describe myself eccentric charismatic
30:24joyful and playful Amatar what country is that from it's uh Laos if I was to be a dog I
30:32don't know
30:32maybe I'd be a Labrador well maybe a St Bernard's because they're always rescuing people out in the
30:37Arctic right yeah because I'm very helpful person in that respect so I'll just stick with Labrador
30:41because everyone loves it Labrador's face I'm here in the hopes of adopting a fur baby maybe two
30:51I'm a single guy got a whole house to myself ready for more dogs I hate cats
31:00yeah not that much of a cat person either
31:09so lovely so kind
31:13pat me pat me pat me hello bubby Buster and Zoe are literally Rodney and I in dog form I
31:21would be Buster
31:21and Zoe would be Rodney thanks because Rodney has an overbite
31:35yeah what are you thoughts serious thoughts they are like they're active but are they too active
31:43how can you say no to those faces look at them Zoe
31:48it's hard to tell what Rodney's thinking though I feel like his eyes are smitten he's got love heart
31:54eyes for sure I think that'd be perfect the challenge around having two dogs is definitely cost I think
32:02because the expenditure just doubles your food doubles grooming doubles all that doubles and they're
32:09a package deal like this so Buster come on mate Zoe come on they can do their own thing they
32:16come when
32:17they're called it's good because then we can both give the attention at the same time I feel it's a
32:30big
32:30decision to take two is it really gonna work what's it like holding two of them well you can't have
32:36two
32:36two because one needs to get a toilet and it can affect your life in many different ways up this
32:47way
32:47come on I loved meeting Zoe and Buster they were full of life full of energy but I was very
33:05unsure
33:05about taking two dogs also when we met Zoe and Buster it looked like they had some kind of denture
33:13problem so we really had to see how much that's going to cost us into the future there was a
33:17lot to
33:18consider in the end we absolutely could not say no to Zoe and Buster we love them too much
33:26I feel like we've got our own growing family mental children
33:46life over the last few years while we've had Buster and Zoe has been absolutely amazing when they both
33:52look at you and Buster's ears are up and she's smiling with her four teeth it absolutely just
33:57lights up your world I had thoughts going through my head on you know double the cost double the feed
34:02vet bills but now I can't imagine life without them they've become absolutely obsessed with Rodney
34:11um I'm just chopped liver I went away for work for three months they had loved me probably more so
34:18than
34:18Rodney before I left when I come back they're like who are you um they became my best friends and
34:25now it's very evident because every time I sit down one goes one side and one goes the other
34:31and Craig's down another at the lounge and he just waves if only I could tell them really he was
34:36hesitant about you two at the start it just melts my heart that they're so connected to him because
34:41it shows that we are a family I've got a clean bill of health now and whilst I do look
34:48after my
34:48health I think having two dogs that keep you active and give you the laughs like we are constantly
34:55laughing at these two they make us laugh so much so all that helps your health benefits I'm forever
35:01thankful because they are so special to us and we absolutely love them even though I kept saying
35:06I wanted one not two
35:33hi hello how are you going
35:35dog dad hopeful amateur is ready for a new start
35:39so what are we here today for to adopt some fur babies babies babies oh okay is that plural if
35:47I
35:47was to adopt I'll be after two okay so if they were like maybe bonded to each other in some
35:53way or
35:53friends that'd be good awesome so have you had a dog before yes okay can you tell us a little
35:57bit
35:58about them Matilda she's a long-haired chihuahua okay 14 years so yeah as chihuahuas are spoiled the princess
36:05she was given to me when she was about three months this time last year I made the decision to
36:12put her
36:12her she had a heart condition and everything so to me it was a shock it was two weeks before
36:18Valentine's Day I went to the vet and they basically said
36:24oh Matilda doesn't have long to go I was unprepared for that I just everything just went out the window
36:30right I was just wailing um like a banshee that's trying to talk to me I'm just like oh I'm
36:36so sorry
36:37yeah well then I just realized nah I just gave him the ultimate this was the ultimate act of love
36:41and she set the bar up for me of you know what unconditional love feels like and it also brought
36:47it out of me so when you've been kind of thinking about you know this dog or these dogs has
36:53there
36:53been a certain picture in your mind as to you know height breed anything like that they'll probably
36:58um be small to medium yeah okay I guess that comes to I guess a bit of an age bracket
37:04as to what
37:05you're looking for I haven't really thought about age too much probably up until senior potentially
37:10yeah yeah okay great we'll go back and have a chat and we'll be back shortly okay awesome all right
37:17we'll see you soon yeah
37:22how'd you go good so we got a lovely gentleman out there looking for a dog or two
37:29dog or two yes so we're quite interested in a bonded pair which they don't come around often so
37:36this is a really good opportunity for us he's open to small to medium um to about his knee height
37:42he's pretty open to age puppy up to senior who you thinking he did say bonded so should we start
37:49off
37:49with lisa and shandy oh look at them lisa and shandy are 13 years old so definitely in our senior
37:58years they're australian cattle dog mixes they're a bonded pair and they came to awl from a deceased
38:04estate their personality points are sweet older ladies looking for the perfect retirement home
38:10docile and easygoing girls they love enjoying life at a slower pace favorite things are each other
38:17food and that's yeah he's so cute who else uh we do have the potential of getting a stuffy out
38:24which
38:24is angel oh look at her little cauliflower ears i love them so angel's a seven-year-old duffy cross
38:31she could be around with children and is good at handling very affectionate loving and easy to handle
38:36gorgeous girl with a giant pink tongue look how big her tongue is uh potentially she is a bit bigger
38:44than what maybe he's looking for i don't know if that would maybe be a deal breaker deal breaker
38:48yeah dogs like lisa and shandy they are very hard to rehome being seniors i think we have a perfect
38:53opportunity now to rehome two dogs to someone who's so open to taking her seniors which is good
38:58all right all right let's go there we go
39:05we found you the match the match matches we found you a bonded pair oh their names are lisa and
39:13shandy
39:14both females both girls and they're both australian cattle dogs uh-huh i think you know we've definitely
39:20hit the size on medium however they are a little bit on the round side so i think they were
39:26looked
39:27after too well in the food department okay yeah but they have a lot of affection and love and stuff
39:31like that to give they are both 13 and they have been with each other and since they were pretty
39:37much
39:37born they were previously in a really good home unfortunately they've outlived their owner
39:42obviously you know that's been really overwhelming for them they're ready and looking for their next
39:46home wow let's go meet lisa and shandy okay
39:51what matilda brought to me was you showed me what unconditional love is and i wanted that experience
39:59again i want to share and evolve my experience of what love is
40:19so lisa and shandy here are both 13 and a half years old they would be about 75 years old
40:26in human
40:26years and they are both cattle dogs so these two sisters are a bonded pair they're in their retirement
40:34stage so they're just ready to settle down be loved forever and in a very beautiful home and hopefully
40:40with a nice couch
40:50good job ladies
40:55i'm so excited for these two look how slow they're walking hopefully their slowness and
41:01old personalities don't turn him off no look at it go you've got to catch up to your sister shandy
41:08come on
41:13come on yay good job
41:17here we go
41:42hello how are you hello so this is lisa
41:48and shandy's just behind me hello they took their time coming here i don't know if they're
41:55going to step down oh my goodness oh there you go oh there we go what is it hello lisa
42:02shandy's just a little bit skinnier yeah oh there we go oh look yeah hello lisa that was nice
42:10shandy went up for a sniff straight away which is better than what she usually does yeah they do
42:15love their food oh yes i can tell
42:19he mentioned that his dog passed away yeah at the age of 14. these girls aren't far off that age
42:25and if that's you know a bit of a deal breaker for him it's still quite fresh
42:33oh that was so nice that was super cute the kiss of love
42:39hey
42:42you outlived your owners huh
42:44it's easier for me to express love to dogs it just goes back to my childhood
42:50hood i see you too you sort of get confused about those signals that your parents give you
42:56do you like back scratches they show love in in strange ways matilda used to like back
43:01scratches they'd be very strict it was all about school and i guess with them it's all tough love
43:07you're beautiful i was a bit confused but now i've grown wiser and i'm able to tap into what
43:15matilda showed me he found a jar she taught me how to care for something else
43:29oh he's found the treats look at him spoiling them already
43:34which one which one yeah these two dogs have been through a lot in the last year of their lives
43:39yeah
43:40i just don't think we've seen the real dogs though the full potential yeah it'll take two or three months
43:44to see the real dog come out absolutely oh my goodness how did you go good once we found the
43:52jar ah that was it that was sold were you happy to walk both of them yeah sure yeah okay
43:58no worries
43:59this could be the deciding factor whether amatar thinks this is a good match because he does want to
44:05take them for walks so i don't know if this could be you know a bit of a deal breaker
44:09for him come on
44:16do you need to pee poop no as i was observing lisa and shandy that voice in my head was
44:25are you sure
44:26you want to do this they're senior you've been through this you know do you want to go through it
44:30again and do i have what it takes to look after these old ladies come on come on you want
44:36to go this way
44:40so
44:51lisa and shandy were not the dogs i expected on that day because i was just wondering whether i could
44:58look after them and whether they'll take a shining to me it was a tough decision but in the end
45:06there
45:07was just this underlying feeling that i knew that it was meant to be so i adopted lisa and shandy
45:19just knowing that they have a home now and that i'm playing a part in it that's that's
45:24for me that's all it takes for me like yeah
45:38having two dogs is actually more work but definitely more rewarding i would say my life
45:42is more joyful is that right princess since matilda passed i was just you know waking up and
45:48just doing my own thing and felt a bit of a loss there so you know with lisa and shannon
45:53there there's
45:53a bit of purpose i guess when i come back home from work i can hear them and they notice
46:01me
46:03they're just making all these weird sounds like oh and that just makes me really happy because i
46:09think it's a sign that they've grown really attached to me shandy used to be bothered when i'll go up
46:17to
46:17her and be affectionate in some way oh hello she wasn't used to it so she'll walk away so now
46:23she
46:23doesn't mind she just sits there and let me pet her now oh who's jealous lisa gets really jealous of
46:29shandy if i um show attention to shandy for a little bit lisa would now come and you know she'll
46:35bring
46:35her nose in and all that stuff hello hello the fact that they're so happy and comfy i feel as
46:43though that's
46:45lengthen their time span but as well as they're acting a little bit younger now and i love knowing
46:51that they're in a comfortable spot to live out the rest of their lives
46:56yeah
46:57you
46:59you
47:01you
