00:00Busy time for you. You have a new single coming out. What can you say about it?
00:04So April 13th, a song called Flowers featuring Ty Dolla Sign.
00:09It's a beautiful, like, old-school 90s R&B love song about giving a girl her flowers.
00:19I did not know that phrase before I wrote the song.
00:22One of my writers literally said to me while we were having a break, she goes,
00:26can I just give you your flowers for this, this, and this? I'm like, my what?
00:31I did not know that's what that meant. Sorry.
00:34But I'm like, there's a song in there somewhere.
00:36We went right back in the studio and then wrote this thing within, like, two hours.
00:41And it turned out to be a gem.
00:43We can't wait to hear it. And you released a solo album just a couple months ago.
00:48What has this era of solo music been like for you?
00:50You know, it's been four years in the making.
00:53I could have released it four years ago, but it just wasn't where it needed to be.
00:57And I'm beyond proud of it. It's a beautiful body of work.
01:02It really encompasses who I am as an artist outside of the group.
01:06From R&B to funk to pop to rock, it's a little bit everything.
01:11And that's kind of who I really feel that I am.
01:14And I got to introduce the world to Alexander James, which is what the album is titled.
01:20My name is Alexander James. Everyone knows me as AJ.
01:24But I've done a lot of soul searching over the last few years and realized that AJ is a character
01:30in a band.
01:31It doesn't define who I am. So Alex is who I really am.
01:35So I wanted the world to get to know me.
01:37But tonight I'm AJ. Just so you know, my nomination is for me, AJ.
01:42So, yes. Yes.
01:44I love that. And I mean, speaking of the group, you announced more Sphere shows, which I'm really happy about
01:48because I still haven't been able to snag a ticket yet.
01:50I need to get there.
01:52But what is the fan response and just all the love for the Sphere residency been like for you guys?
01:56I mean, it's been overwhelming. Honestly, we put up nine shows.
01:59And after this summer, I think it'll be 59 shows.
02:03We got some news today about possibly adding more dates.
02:07So it's just it's a gift that keeps on giving.
02:10It's an absolute dream.
02:12One of the best venues, if not the best venue in the world.
02:16And we have the best fans in the world coming back multiple times, bringing their families, starting a whole new
02:22resurgence of new fans.
02:25I kind of created a cult by telling everyone to wear white.
02:28I didn't think it was going to last this whole time.
02:30It's a thing now. It's not going anywhere.
02:32Like when you if you leave our show and you see people on the street, you know what show they
02:37just saw.
02:39But it's a good it's a good cult.
02:41It's a positive cult to be a part of.
02:43There's no drinking, no juice stuff.
02:44And you get to forget about this crazy world we live in for two hours and just listen to good
02:50music and just go back to your childhood or to a special moment in your life.
02:54And that's great.
02:55And it's brought in a lot of superstar members to this cult.
02:57I love the videos of Nick Jonas on Valentine's Day, I think, in the crowd singing along.
03:02What was your response to that?
03:03I mean, I've known Nick since he was yay tall.
03:08He's a fan. I'm a fan of him.
03:09I'm a fan of Jonas.
03:11I love those boys.
03:12And to see him standing up singing every song was phenomenal.
03:17I mean, we've been blessed to have quite a few amazing celebs come out and see the show.
03:22So I fangirled over Charlize Theron.
03:25That one, I kind of lost my mind.
03:27I'm also a big fan of the show New Girl.
03:29So I had met Zoe years prior.
03:33But for her to come to the show, Lamorne Morris has now become a friend.
03:37He came to the show.
03:38So I'm trying to get the rest of the cast to come.
03:42And then I'm working on Friends.
03:44Friends is my favorite show.
03:46But I really just want Jennifer Aniston to come.
03:48That's all.
03:48Please come, Jen.
03:50This is her official invite.
03:51We're putting it out there.
03:52Yes, my official invite.
03:53Jennifer Aniston, please come see us or me at The Sphere in Vegas.
03:59Please.
03:59I love that.
04:00And actually, somebody who's going to be here tonight is someone I think should have
04:03a Sphere residency.
04:04I'd love to see her do it.
04:05Miley Cyrus.
04:07She would be incredible.
04:08She's got the catalog.
04:09She's got the chops.
04:11I saw something online about Pink, but I don't know if that's a rumor because I don't know.
04:16They won't tell us all the insides.
04:18We might have known about Metallica, but we kept our mouths shut because I'm excited about
04:23that.
04:24No doubt coming up in a couple months.
04:27So there's so many great artists that should do that venue.
04:30I was going to ask if there's anybody that you think should do it, like put it out there
04:34and manifest it.
04:35I want to see Spice Girls.
04:37We need that.
04:38I know.
04:38I want to see Coldplay.
04:40I think their tour with the bright colors and all this stuff would be incredible in that
04:44venue.
04:46I would love to see Bruno in that venue.
04:51And I don't think it'll happen, but for all of our Swifties out there, I would love to
04:57see Taylor.
04:58Me too.
04:58But the tickets, I already know.
05:00It would be a bloodbath.
05:02There would be a bloodbath.
05:03Maybe even BTS might be kind of interesting.
05:06Oh, that would be a hot ticket.
05:08That would be a hot ticket, but also the prices would be insane.
05:12So, you know.
05:13Hey, all great ones.
05:14I love that.
05:14And I'm asking everybody here today, since we're at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, we're
05:18celebrating music, what's a song that you have on repeat right now?
05:22Right now, actually, I just shot a film in New Zealand over this past week, and another
05:32artist in the industry was in the film with me, Mr. Daniel Bedingfield, and I hadn't listened
05:39to his first single in years, and just catching up with him, I have it on repeat, even though
05:45I would only listen to it going through a breakup.
05:48You're not the one that wide us in my heart.
05:51So, now it's on, I don't want to run away, but I can't take it.
05:56I don't understand.
05:59So, now it's on repeat, and I'm bawling for no reason, because I have a great life.
06:03I'm very happy, but I listen to him like, oh my God.
06:06So, yeah.
06:07Thank you, Daniel.
06:08Appreciate it.
06:08That's a true throwback.
06:09It is, but it's a great pop song.
06:12And finally, what's a song that when you hear it on the radio, no matter what, you have to
06:16crank it up and jam out?
06:18That would be anything Bruno Mars, and anything Taylor Swift.
06:24A Swifty, I love it.
06:25I mean, when you got girls, it helps.
06:29Also, anything Ava Max.
06:31Love me some Ava.
06:32An underrated pop queen.
06:33She really is, and it's, she deserves her flowers.
06:37You do.
06:38You do.
06:43You
