00:00Celebrate music, celebrate being a rock star.
00:03We've all got a little bit of rock star in us.
00:05It's funny, right, because if it is actually a decent story,
00:07you can't really talk about it.
00:08Well, luckily, we are sold out.
00:10We are.
00:11So, yeah, don't bother, come.
00:30How are you doing?
00:35It's wonderful to have you, because, one, welcome to London,
00:38to the Roundhouse.
00:39But it's a bit of an Irish theme tonight, aren't we?
00:41We're honouring Sir Bob Geldof.
00:43Yes.
00:44What does he mean to you as an artist, as a figure in the music industry?
00:47I guess as an Irish person, oftentimes,
00:49you don't even necessarily think of the artist.
00:50You think of the sort of activist and the philanthropist
00:53and just what he's done.
00:54I was talking to someone about it the other day.
00:56It just takes an awful lot of bravery to kind of achieve what he did.
00:59Particularly with Live Aid, of course.
01:01And when I hear my parents talk about Live Aid,
01:03it's such an inspiring thing.
01:04And as somebody who kind of creates his own festival now,
01:08yeah, it's just a very inspiring thing for me to see.
01:11So, yeah, it's cool to be here.
01:12It's amazing that we're here at the end of 2025.
01:15Please tell me the story of Dermot's 2025.
01:17How has it been for you?
01:18Oh, it's been beautiful, but it's been quiet, too.
01:20Like, I made so much music, you know?
01:24I played some shows.
01:25Yeah, I just, it felt like a beautiful year,
01:28because I spent a lot of time at home.
01:30If I did play a show, it felt very intentional
01:32and it felt more in line with what I'd like to do
01:34going into the future.
01:35And in terms of the music I made,
01:37it was a very healthy, fulfilling process.
01:39So, yeah, it was a good year for me.
01:41Nice one, thank you.
01:42We're here at Rolling Stone Awards.
01:44We're like, you know, it's synonymous with rock and roll.
01:46Please tell me what's your go-to rock and roll story
01:49that you're allowed to tell us.
01:50My rock and roll story?
01:51I have a very boring, touring life.
01:53Like, yeah, it's funny, right?
01:56Because if it is actually a decent story,
01:58you can't really talk about it.
01:59So, yeah, it's quite boring.
02:01But, nah, I just, like, in terms of people that are involved
02:04this evening, it may not be a rock and roll story,
02:06but the coolest thing for me this year was with the Cranberries,
02:08to perform with them.
02:10It just, I don't know, like, to kind of be given that honour
02:14and to try and do those songs just as meant an awful lot to me.
02:17So, that felt rock and roll to me.
02:19Well, enjoy tonight.
02:20Thank you so much for your time.
02:21I appreciate you.
02:22Of course, man.
02:23Welcome to The Roundhouse, a place you've been many times before.
02:28Thank you very much.
02:29Can you please give us an overview of what your role is here tonight
02:31at the Rolling Stone Awards?
02:32I'm presenting Best Record Label.
02:35Fantastic.
02:36And this is an occasion where, like, you're going to be schmoozing
02:39with a lot of industry veterans and a lot of newcomers as well.
02:42Do you get a stage now where, like, young artists are coming up to you
02:45and asking for advice, and what advice do you give them?
02:48I wish I had great advice.
02:52Like, just be yourself or, you know, it's going to be okay.
02:56But, you know, you have to, like, I guess timing is kind of quite important
03:03and, you know, and hard work and kind of try to be yourself, you know, basically.
03:102025, it's ridiculous that we're almost at the end of it now.
03:14Please give me a recap.
03:15What's the story of Timbers' 2025 been?
03:18Well, my story has been preparing to release an album called We Are Love,
03:26which we did, I don't know, I can't even remember what day it is.
03:31You know, a couple of weeks ago, a month ago maybe.
03:34And I've just got off a plane, so.
03:38And, yeah, so the reception's been great.
03:42And it's been exactly what we hope for.
03:44Do you know what number album is this like?
03:46Do you still get the same buzz and feeling each time you go through the cycle of, like, preparing to release, post-release and stuff?
03:52Is it he'll hit the same?
03:53It's mad. It changes every time, you know.
03:56But we all feel as excited, you know, when we've done the last note in the studio.
04:02It's like, oh, my God, this is it. It's actually finished, you know, and that's, you know.
04:07Do you have a go-to celebration of how you do celebrate that last note in the studio?
04:11Just come to award ceremonies and sort of, like, you know, and present awards to great people.
04:17And unschmooze with, you know, the young and the old.
04:20Speaking of, I mentioned how, like, you know, we're going to have a lot of youngsters and be hopefully looking at you as, you know, an icon of the music industry.
04:28Have you had the opportunity in your career to, like, speak to your icons?
04:32And, like, who you loved when you were younger?
04:34Yeah, I have.
04:36Robert Smith.
04:37I interviewed Robert Smith.
04:39I thought it was a highlight of my life.
04:43I have, you know, been on tour with The Rolling Stones.
04:50I can't think of anyone else.
04:52But they're all my icons.
04:53Kevin Shields is my icon.
04:54I saw him play here five nights when they came back a few years ago.
05:00And they're on their way out to play again.
05:03So that's exciting.
05:05And, you know, great.
05:09And finally, let's get a bit of a plug.
05:13When are we performing here?
05:14When are we touring?
05:15What dates should the people know about?
05:17Well, we're playing at The Roundhouse in December.
05:21Sold out.
05:22But it's still great to plug it.
05:25All right.
05:26Thank you so much.
05:27I appreciate you and have fun tonight as well.
05:29Thanks, Dan.
05:30Thanks, Dan.
05:31Take care.
05:39Made it through to the World Cup and how was that?
05:41For about eight to seven minutes we were flat on the floor, crying.
05:45And then it went to the best eight or nine minutes of our entire life.
05:49Yeah.
05:50And it's stunned.
05:51It's stunned.
05:5228 years.
05:53Still exhausted.
05:54And actually, every English person we've met has been so kind about it.
05:58So thank you because we're so unkind about the English team.
06:01So it means a lot to us.
06:02But yeah, anything's possible, Will.
06:04I know.
06:05Where were you?
06:06Were you together?
06:07We were watching the television in an apartment we were renting.
06:10And the highs and the lows were unlike anything we've ever witnessed in our lives.
06:14So thank you, Scotland.
06:15Thank you so much.
06:16Thank you, football.
06:17Thank you, football.
06:18Thank you, football.
06:19Amazing.
06:20Back to the boring stuff.
06:21You're nominated for the Live Act Awards this evening.
06:25You're bringing the team to the UK arenas in January.
06:28What can we expect from the show?
06:30What's going to be new?
06:31What's going to be new?
06:32What can we expect?
06:33We're kind of building the show from the ground up for this new record.
06:36And we're changing how we arrange things on stage.
06:39Literally where we're going to be geographically.
06:41And you know what?
06:42I don't want to give too much away.
06:44We've got a really stunning stage set.
06:46It's very kind of theatrical.
06:48It's going to be next level.
06:49And it's been nice to spend a couple of months working on it actually.
06:52So we've been percolating for a while.
06:54And it's hopefully going to be this dramatic, intense, and most fun different show.
06:57And away from your own music.
06:58What's a song that's defined your 2025?
06:59Ooh.
07:00Define 2025.
07:01I mean, it's been all about the Biff, hasn't it?
07:02Kpop Demon Hunters fan.
07:03That's a song that has followed us about all year.
07:04I woke up to be singing that song.
07:05I can't get it out of my head.
07:06That's a good song.
07:07Yeah.
07:08Mine's the killer speaking last dinner party.
07:09Nice.
07:10I can't get that song out of my head and it's kind of been with me for the last little while.
07:24So yeah, that's great.
07:25I'm so excited for all three of you.
07:28However, I know that you were celebrating together watching that game.
07:31At what point do you think, we should do the song?
07:34After about three minutes?
07:37The 98th?
07:38Yeah, something like that.
07:39As soon as we thought we're maybe going, we would have booked a studio that night if
07:43we could have.
07:44We've actually got the lyric for the chorus as well.
07:46So yes, things are flowing.
07:48It's maybe not as quite as straightforward as that evening.
07:50We would have done it and released it that night.
07:52But these are historic moments and it would be amazing for all the UK if Wales went and
07:57Northern Ireland and Republic.
07:58Obviously you guys are in so early, you make it look so easy.
08:02But you know what, imagine that if the whole nation and the whole island could celebrate
08:07and experience the same thing.
08:08So yeah.
08:09It would be so good.
08:10Well, the soundtrack is going to be Scottish Live Aid.
08:11That's what it's going to be.
08:12That should be.
08:13Lulu.
08:14Capaldi.
08:15Annie.
08:16Capaldi.
08:17Spateri.
08:18Annie Lennox.
08:19Get them all.
08:20To be, I guess, humble for a second, if not you guys, then who would you like to
08:24write that song, to sing that song?
08:26You know what?
08:27This is quite niche, but there's a band called The Twilight Sad from Scotland.
08:31And they're probably the most definitively Scottish band with the subject matter.
08:36They're kind of quite do it.
08:37And I think they just have this soundscape that kind of signifies the wilderness and the
08:41landscape of Scotland.
08:42But with that crushing disappointment at his heart.
08:45And that's me being optimistic.
08:47You're going to nail it, guys.
08:48You're going to nail it.
08:49Don't worry.
08:50It would be amazing.
08:51Or Lewis Capaldi.
08:52Yeah.
08:53Straight to the top of it.
08:54Lewis could nail it.
08:55I'll pitch that to him when he arrives.
08:56Yeah, thanks.
08:57Maybe you guys can get together tonight as well and brainstorm some of that.
09:00Let's hope so.
09:01If you see a few Scotsmen in a room after a sporting event has gone well, you will not
09:04believe it.
09:05We're here to celebrate Rolling Stone UK awards tonight.
09:08You guys are up for Best Live Act.
09:09What are we expecting in terms of live music from yourselves in 2026?
09:13What are we looking forward to?
09:14What should we sell tickets to?
09:15I think we are, well, luckily we are sold out.
09:18We are.
09:19So, yeah, don't bother.
09:21Come.
09:22Don't push it.
09:23It's fine.
09:24We spent all this year making records and we've dipped our toes into the live arena
09:28a couple of times.
09:29Next year is all about going on tour.
09:31So next year a lot will be all about live shows.
09:33And as I say, just traveling around, making those connections.
09:36And that's where the magic happens.
09:38You know, recording music is incredible.
09:40But see when you share these experiences and your molecules change.
09:43That's what leaves our lasting impact.
09:45So we want to make memories of the new year.
09:47Thank you so much for your time.
09:48Good luck tonight as well.
09:49And enjoy yourselves.
09:50Thank you so much.
09:51Have a good night.
09:52Have some fun.
09:53Celebrate music.
09:54Celebrate being a rock star.
09:55We've all got a little bit of rock star in us.
09:56So that's why I'm here.
09:57Bringing it out.
09:58I don't usually dress like this.
09:59I don't want to stay with me.
10:00You've all got a moment.
10:02We've all got a little bit of rock star in us.
10:03So that's why I'm here.
10:04Bringing it out.
10:05I don't usually dress like this.
10:06I don't want to stay with me.
10:19I actually don't call that quiet.
10:21What's the life?
10:22How are you doing?
10:23So I'm just enjoying the ride, you know, we're all just trying to figure it out.
10:28But it's called Don't Tease Me With A Good Time, and it's the journey of grief to find
10:33a joy, which I think everyone knows who could always say, you know, sometimes it's a wild
10:37start that you have to play, so I'm lucky that I can talk about it, make music about
10:41it, and help other people by being open about it.
10:44How are you doing?
10:45So we have a handshake.
10:46Oh great, perfect.
10:47ITN News.
10:48Welcome to the Rolling Stone UK Awards.
10:50However, is this your second in two days of big schmoozy red carpet events?
10:53Yeah, in very different outfits and serious situations.
10:56Tell me the story of last night's Royal Variety.
10:58I think I saw you hugging royalty.
11:00Is that like a regular appearance?
11:01No, I didn't.
11:02To be honest with you, I've only just had a second to see that that obviously was a moment
11:07shared between, for me, two mums that have gone through something similar this year that,
11:12you know, I just wanted to tell her that I think it's amazing that she's gone through
11:16it publicly as I have, and I just know it isn't easy and I just wanted to give her a hug.
11:20And it was a really lovely human-to-human moment.
11:23Mum-to-mum.
11:24But yeah, last night was so beautiful.
11:26You know, it was honestly like a trippy school play with a big budget.
11:32You know, I'm standing next to Paddington Bear, like, hello.
11:35But I sang a really important song about a friend of mine who took his life seven years
11:41ago.
11:42And it's a song that I saw on my album that I hope can help people that feel alone and
11:47for people that are left behind when they've lost people.
11:50It's important for me to make music that makes people feel something.
11:53You mentioned albums coming up.
11:55Yes.
11:56Is it next week?
11:57Next week.
11:58Are the nerves kicking in?
11:59Are we excited?
12:00How are we feeling?
12:01What are we expecting?
12:02I don't know.
12:03I feel like I work my ass off.
12:05I give people what I can.
12:07If they like it, I've done all I can.
12:10If they don't, I can cook.
12:12So I'll try and do a bit of that.
12:15You know?
12:16Thanks so much for your time.
12:17I appreciate you.
12:18Yourself and the band of playing tonight in tonight's proceedings.
12:21Yeah.
12:22So the guys had done a cover of Linger a couple of years back and it kind of, I think, went
12:29really big for them.
12:30And that's how I first came across and my daughter said, have you seen this?
12:35Yeah.
12:36Discover, you know.
12:37And then I started following the band.
12:39So never thinking I'd be playing with them a few years later.
12:43And yeah, I was asked to do it recently out of the blue.
12:47And on top of that day, I found out we were getting this award tonight.
12:51So the combination of both was just a nice, nice surprise.
12:54You've already been name checked in an interview that I've done for now.
12:57I was talking to Dermot Kennedy who said one of his highlights of 25 was playing with
13:00yourself.
13:01Yeah.
13:02And I want to think from you, have you had the chance in your career to meet your musical
13:05icons and your heroes?
13:06Yeah.
13:07And how did those meetings go?
13:08That's the really big part of this job, you know?
13:11Yeah.
13:12I mean, for me, the two that really stand out, I suppose, like I grew up a huge Smiths and
13:19Cure fan.
13:20And I met Robert Smith in 2019 after a gig, which was amazing.
13:27And then Johnny Marr played in the city I live last year.
13:32And I got to spend an afternoon with him, which I didn't expect.
13:36And it was just, yeah, it was kind of definitely a highlight.
13:39Yeah.
13:40You can meet your heroes.
13:41You can.
13:42Yeah.
13:43Yeah.
13:44You hear about the ones you shouldn't meet.
13:45So like, I mean, it's, it's amazing.
13:48You don't like, you know, I don't know what icon really means, but you know, it's a nice
13:53thing that it was amazing to just kind of out of the blue, be dragged back into this
13:58kind of stuff again.
13:59And yeah, I guess it just shows to you that you've done something right over the years.
14:07And I never really, I guess really, I never realized how big the band really, really were
14:12till we finished.
14:13And then you kind of start to realize that even whatever we are, seven, eight years now,
14:19later, that those songs are still getting played all the time.
14:23How did you feel when you, when you started to see that fake reaction worldwide to your
14:27music in general?
14:29I mean, when you're in the middle of it, you don't really take any notice.
14:33You know, through the nineties, when the band were at their height, it was just another,
14:37you know, do another tour, do another album or go home.
14:41And I guess what really brought it home was, unfortunately, when The Doors passed away,
14:46and the kind of, you know, the kind of, the way the reaction was throughout the world,
14:51there was videos constantly.
14:52And it definitely helped kind of get you through that time.
14:56But there was that realization of how big the band were.
14:59Because we were still kind of really touring up until a few months before that.
15:03Even when they thought, we just tip away and we're doing our thing here.
15:07But, yeah, I mean, it's, it's in the years since that when I think back to it, I went,
15:12yeah, geez, we played, you know, like, I think one of the biggest ones we ever did,
15:17we did Woodstock 2, sometime in the nineties.
15:20And you're going to realize, you know, we, we went there, we did it and we left.
15:24And then you're thinking back, because I couldn't see where that crowd ended.
15:27You know, I don't know how many people were there.
15:28Things like that, that, and you're young as well, and you kind of, you know,
15:32you're not really thinking about things so a lot, yeah.
15:36So I suppose, as well, it's kind of the beauty of the arts as well.
15:39It's not like, you can create something in a room together,
15:42when it's just the two of these, like, having a back and forth of the creative arts
15:47that you just still love, and then seeing the rest of them resonate with it as well.
15:51Yeah, yeah, I was only saying to someone earlier today that, like,
15:55I can remember being in my bedroom in my parents' house, kind of,
15:59gluing the few chords that are in linger together before I brought it into the boys, you know,
16:04and you just, little do you think, like, when you're 17,
16:08you're kind of strumming the few chords they knew together in that, in that kind of rhythm,
16:14and suddenly, you know, whatever, God, 30-something years later,
16:19that song still gets played all the time.
16:21It's nice, it's better you don't know these things, obviously,
16:24because you'd be, you put so much pressure on yourself,
16:27which is something I think happens bands as they go on anyway,
16:30because you have a hit, and then there's pressure to have another one.
16:32So, there's something lovely about those first few years,
16:35when you're kind of very naive about it all.
16:37And artists in general as well, because you're so attached to your emotions,
16:40or your tools that you use in the stage, it just ends up being an extension of it.
16:44Exactly, yeah.
16:45The whole point was to hear the songs live again after all the years,
17:02because we hadn't played them, you know, I guess 2018, early 2018,
17:08just, sorry, 17 even, yeah.
17:11And, yeah, just to kind of hit the opening chorus to some of those songs,
17:16you see the reaction in the crowd, it's amazing, yeah.
17:19Yeah.
17:20FOMO I haven't.
17:21All right, thanks, guys, bye, FOMO.
17:23Hey, welcome to the...
17:26Do you want me looking at you?
17:27Uh, yeah.
17:28Okay, go ahead.
17:29Welcome to the Rolling Stone Awards 2025.
17:31I heard you say, like, it's mad that we're here already.
17:33Tell me the story about Stephen, about Dynamo's 2025.
17:36How's it been for you?
17:37This year's been amazing, actually.
17:39I went back on stage for the first time in many years,
17:43did a run of shows in Soho, which was super exciting.
17:48Super exciting so much that I'm actually going back on stage in 2026,
17:52back to the same venue with a slightly updated version of the show.
17:56Amazing.
17:57Is that like a residency?
17:58When does a run of shows become a residency in a place?
18:00Yeah, I mean, I guess it's kind of a residency.
18:03This year, I did 50 shows there.
18:06In February, I've currently got in, like, 35 shows booked in.
18:11I might add some more.
18:13But yeah, I mean, it's a mini residency, shall we say.
18:20Amazing.
18:21And I guess that's 2026, but tonight we're in the here and now,
18:24we're going to be surrounded by talented musicians,
18:27both legends and up and coming as well.
18:29How do you work the room when you go into a room like that?
18:32Do you go to your idols and introduce yourself,
18:34or do you keep a cool distance?
18:36I try to play it cool, but you know what?
18:39Sometimes you never know who you're going to get to meet.
18:41And I know that when I share magic, you know, sometimes in these events,
18:46it can be a bit like, you know, you need something to break the ice.
18:49So I come with the perfect icebreaker and help to bring people together.
18:53Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:54But tonight, you know, there's one legend missing.
18:57Sad news about Manny from the Stonewall.
18:59This is the primal screen.
19:01Literally, I heard the news on the way here.
19:03It's quite a shock, really,
19:05because you have become good friends with the band over the years.
19:09And, you know, like, as a northerner, kind of,
19:12to lose someone who's been so kind of monumental in my musical upbringing,
19:18it's quite tragic.
19:20So that's one legend that, you know,
19:22that hopefully will get honored tonight in some way, shape or form.
19:26I hope that for all of us as well.
19:27Thank you so much for your time.
19:28Enjoy tonight as well. Cheers, man.
19:29Thank you very much.
