00:00 The O'Mara Road upgrade project to be undertaken by the Ministry of Works and
00:04 Transport covers upgrades from the intersection of O'Mara Road and the
00:09 Churchill Roosevelt Highway reaching as far north as New Tones Boulevard. The
00:13 scope of works includes the widening of O'Mara Road with a dual lane carriageway
00:18 and construction of new drainage mechanisms. A key aspect of the project
00:22 is a roundabout at the intersection of Lenoxy Airwood Boulevard and O'Mara Road.
00:27 Under the project the traffic light on the eastbound lane of the Churchill
00:31 Roosevelt Highway would be removed. This would result in changes for motorists
00:35 turning left. The Works and Transport Ministry says drivers would have two
00:40 options. One is to head south along O'Mara Road, turn left onto Spancrete
00:45 Boulevard and then turn right onto the new access lane for the highway.
00:49 Motorists utilizing York Avenue would continue southwards to Spancrete
00:54 Boulevard and then turn right to access the new lane. The works would also factor
01:00 in the installation of video detection camera sensors and upgrades the
01:04 sidewalks, culvert crossings etc. The Ministry knows that many residents and
01:10 businesses rely on O'Mara Road and the present infrastructure does not meet the
01:15 economic development that the area has had in the past decade. Other than
01:19 increased accessibility and better drainage, the Ministry highlights a
01:24 possibility for increased potential for economic activity, local tourism and the
01:29 expansion of cottage industries. Alicia Boucher, TV6 News.
